I Was Healed Once I Fully Surrendered with Joshua Pono
🔥 Episode Summary In this episode of Share Your Scripture, Joshua Pono shares a raw and powerful testimony of brokenness, addiction, and ultimately, complete surrender to God. Growing up in a turbulent household marked by instability, addiction, and trauma, Josh wrestled with pain, identity, and destructive patterns from an early age. Despite moments of faith and exposure to God through his father, he found himself caught in cycles of alcohol, internal battles, and trying to fix everything on his own. After years of struggle and failed attempts to change through willpower alone, Josh reached a breaking point—where surrender wasn’t optional anymore. In that moment of complete surrender, everything changed. 👉 The healing didn’t come from trying harder—it came from finally letting go. 💡 Key Takeaways 1. You Can’t Outwork What Only God Can Heal Josh tried for years to quit on his own—months at a time. Every attempt ended the same way: burnout and relapse. 2. Brokenness Often Starts Early Childhood trauma, instability, and addiction shaped his early life. Exposure to alcohol and drugs began as early as age 13. 3. Patterns Repeat Until They’re Confronted Josh witnessed cycles of destruction in his father’s life. Without intervention, he found himself walking a similar path. 4. Willpower Alone Isn’t Enough The more he tried to control the problem, the worse it became. The battle became harder over time, not easier. 5. Surrender Is the Turning Point The breakthrough came when he fully admitted:👉 “I can’t do this on my own.” That moment of surrender changed everything. 6. Healing Can Be Instant When It’s Real After surrender, the internal “voices” and urges stopped. The weight he had been carrying was suddenly gone. 7. God Carries What You Can’t Josh describes surrender as handing over the burden. What once felt heavy became light when he stopped carrying it alone. 8. Your Actions Affect the Next Generation A major wake-up call came when his children began noticing his habits. He refused to pass down the same pain he experienced. 9. Faith Requires Daily Anchors Josh built structure into his life: Scripture Family time Discipline These anchors kept him grounded and aligned. 10. Obedience Unlocks Growth Once he surrendered, transformation didn’t stop—it multiplied. God began working in other areas of his life beyond the initial healing. ⏱️ Key Timestamps 0:00 – Purpose of the podcast and testimony format 2:20 – Introduction to Joshua Pono and his background 6:41 – Witnessing God through his father’s life 8:45 – Childhood trauma and instability 11:31 – Early exposure to alcohol and drugs 15:15 – Building life anchors and discipline 17:39 – Realization: losing the battle with addiction 18:18 – Moment of full surrender 19:04 – Immediate healing and silence of internal struggle 20:48 – Impact of his actions on his children 21:54 – How he knew God answered his prayer 22:49 – Understanding surrender through scripture 27:46 – Transformation and continued growth after obedience 👤 About Joshua Pono Josh Pono has worked in real estate for over 16 years, including several years inside top proptech companies—fueling his deep expertise in systems, automation, and technology-driven growth. Preacher on Sundays, Lukewarm Christian Rest of the Week with Philip Fairley
🔥 Episode Summary In this powerful and deeply personal episode of Share Your Scripture, Philip Fairley shares his journey from growing up as a preacher’s son to living a “lukewarm Christian” life and ultimately experiencing a true, life-changing surrender to God. Philip opens up about the tension between religion and relationship, the pain of hypocrisy in the home, seasons of rebellion, and the wake-up calls that brought him back to faith. Through family struggles, loss, business challenges, and a life-altering moment involving his daughter, Philip reveals how God used every circumstance to draw him back—not to routine religion, but to real, surrendered faith. This episode is a raw reminder that:👉 Faith isn’t about showing up on Sundays, it’s about how you live every single day. 💡 Key Takeaways 1. Religion Without Relationship Feels Empty Growing up in church doesn’t guarantee real faith. Philip followed the motions but never truly experienced God early on. 2. Hypocrisy Can Push People Away from Faith Seeing one version of Christianity in public and another at home created confusion and doubt. Many people struggle when faith feels inconsistent or forced. 3. Community Is Essential to Spiritual Growth True transformation happened when Philip was surrounded by a strong, faith-filled community. Faith is difficult to sustain in isolation. 4. You Can Believe in God… and Still Not Be Fully Surrendered Philip lived years as a “checkbox Christian”—church on Sunday, worldly living the rest of the week. Faith without surrender leads to spiritual stagnation. 5. God Uses Pain to Get Your Attention Family trauma, loss, and broken relationships became turning points. Difficult seasons often reveal where your faith truly stands. 6. Your Children Can Lead You Back to God Philip’s daughter’s transformation after a near-fatal accident became a wake-up call. Sometimes God speaks through the people closest to you. 7. Surrender Is the Turning Point Blessings didn’t come until Philip fully leaned in—through faith, discipline, and action. Surrender looks different for everyone, but it requires letting go of control. 8. Faith Requires Action, Not Just Words Going to church isn’t enough—living it daily is what matters. Real faith shows up in: Daily habits Decisions Priorities 9. The “In-Between” Season Tests Your Faith There’s always a gap between stepping out in faith and seeing results. Growth happens while you’re waiting, trusting, and staying consistent. 10. God’s Blessings Often Follow Obedience When Philip changed his routine and truly leaned in, things began to shift.
