I had somehow never figured that I would possibly even consider covering this song. I went to this event at the University of Southern California called USC Thornton 2016 PopFest which was held on April 3rd at the USC Carson Soundstage hosted by the USC Thornton School of Music. It was like magic. I felt so good being there. It felt like I was in the right place. That's where my heart lies. I particularly got the idea and motivation to cover this song after watching Brooke Aulani perform the acoustic version. That moment I knew I wanted to cover this song soon. So here goes. Defying Gravity from Wicked is featured in Wheels, the ninth episode of Season One. It is sung by Kurt and Rachel. They sing it during the New Directions' first "Diva-Off" because Will is thinking about using the song at Sectionals. At first, he gives the part to Rachel. However, Burt learns that Kurt wanted the solo for Sectionals, so he complains to Figgins and Will allows Kurt to audition for the solo. However, Kurt throws the competition by blowing the high F so that Burt won't have to endure more homophobic telephone calls and consequently, Rachel wins.
