In the realm of speculative science fiction, the needle is always moving. As scientific discovery has barreled into the future since the industrial revolution, science fiction burst into the modern with novels like Frankenstein and The War of the Worlds. In the mid 1980s, the same drastic leap forward would usher the genre into the contemporary with the single novel that would craft an entire sub genre.
