    In this episode (12), Yogesh Byadwal speaks to Dr Binay Panda and Prashant Reddy about the Feb 2025 Delhi High Court decision in UC Regents vs The Controller of Patents, a very interesting case that could have repercussions for the biotech industry at large. In particular, they discuss questions raised ( or left open) by the case around patentability vis-a-vis Section 3(c) and Section 3(j) of the Patents Act. As well as questions on the disclosure, and deposit requirement as per Section 10 of the Patents Act. (Note: this episode was recorded on June 2025 as is current as of then. It's not clear if there has been any update since then, and watchers are advised to cross check instead of relying on this as the current position). Panda is a distinguished academic at the School of Biotechnology, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. He earned his D.Phil. from the University of Oxford, UK, and his M.Sc. from the University of Delhi, India.His research interests encompass data integration and genomic medicine,development of high-throughput genomics tools, metabolic engineering ofsecondary metabolites, biodiversity genomics, and the promotion of openscience practices. Additionally, he has held visiting positions at the Technical University of Denmark and the University of Tokyo. Professor Panda has been honored with several accolades, including the American CancerSociety Junior-Post-Doctoral Fellowship, the Felix Scholarship at Oxford, and the Radhakrishnan Memorial Bequest Award. His notable publications include contributions to journals like Cancer and JCO – Clinical Cancer Informatics.About Prashant Reddy: Prashant Reddy T graduated from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, with a B.A.LLB (Hons.) degree in 2008.     SpicyIP Summer School 2026: Coming Soon

    That time of the year is coming up again! Get ready for SpicyIP Summer School 2026, tentatively scheduled for the end of June in Bangalore. SpicyIP conducted its first edition of the annual SpicyIP Summer School from June 21st to June 29th, 2025 at the lush green campus of Ecumenical Christian Centre, Whitefield, Bangalore, as an 8-day residential program for law students and professionals.
