Sunday April 26th 2026
Revd Laura preaches on John 10.1-10. Jesus is speaking to the Pharisees. They do not understand him, even as he talks about the Good Shepherd. Jesus is talking about moving from a place of being lost and in danger to a place of safety. He gave up something physical so that we can benefit from something spiritual from now until forever. We are seeking to show God's love through sharing with others through feeding and caring, addressing their needs, meeting with the lonely, being present to each other and offering joy.

This Sunday, 17th August, our sermon will be a virtual sermon provided by Dr. Alex Wimberley from ‘The Corrymeela Community’ which is one of the missions we at St John’s support as part of our Mission giving.Alex became Leader at Corrymeela in August 2019 and he spoke about integration in Northern Ireland schools to our congregation in June 2021.We at St John’s have been very lucky that Alex has kindly obliged us by providing Virtual Sermons twice before for us and has once again provided another virtual sermon for us this coming Sunday based on the gospel reading from John 21:1-19. During Hazel’s tenure as Chair of the Missions Committee £25,000 was raised for Corrymeela by our church community which is a fantastic figure and they are so grateful for our continued support. This year in May Corrymeela celebrated 60 wonderful years. Corrymeela is formed of people of all ages and Christian traditions who, individually and together, are committed to the healing of social, religious and political divisions that exist in Northern Ireland and throughout the world.Carol Frost (Missions Co-Chair)

Revd John Edwards takes us back to how Luke narrates the book of Acts. Today we hear from Acts 16 how the disciples take the Gospel to Philippi. They are guided throughout by the Holy Spirit. John asks us how we discern what the holy Spirit is telling us today. The first person to be converted was a woman, the second a slave girl and the third a Roman jailer. Not exactly the pillars of society - showing that the gospel is for everyone.

Revd Laura Wheatley Downs tells us about Mary's love in anointing Jesus early in his final week on earth. She followed the way of love. Just as the disciples did not understand what Mary was doing, so they did not understand what Jesus was doing. They would fall asleep, run away and deny him. Jesus is poured out for all.
