Orphaned at the age of 11, Daniel first traveled through the Southwest in the mid 1840s with enemies of the LDS people, the Missouri militia. He found appreciation and admiration for the inhabitants of the West, the Mexican People, the Ute Indian, and various Indian peoples. He acted as an emissary, an interpreter, and a negotiator between white settlers, various indigenous peoples, Spanish Mexicans, slay traders, government Indian agents, and leaders and prophets of the Latter-day Saints. He lived in the West from 1847 until 1915.

The Salt Lake Tabernacle was the architectural marvel of the 1800s. Frank Lloyd Wright said it was one of the architectural masterpieces of the world. In just 3 ½ years the Saints scratched the timber, stone, sand and lime of the largest assembly hall in the Americas for the next 50 years. The clear span 150-foot bridge design had skeptics convinced the Tabernacle’s roof would collapse when the interior scaffolding was removed. Held together by rawhide and wooden pegs the huge roof has stood the test of time for more than 150 years. This is an inspiring story.

John the Beloved Apostle of Jesus Christ, has been working to further the Message of our Savior, since the meridian of time. The Romans could not kill him, no one can. He is the only Apostle of Jesus from the old world to choose to stay on the earth until the end of time. He is under assignment to teach the word of the Lord to the lost tribes of Isreal, but he has also chosen to assist and instruct others who are engaged in this work. Four missionaries in the 1960s in the Italian mission were serving in the most evil city in Italy. Satan had a firm grip on the people of Italy for almost 2,000 years. A Catholic priest persecuted these missionaries and tried to kill them. Then John the Revelator came to their aid and coached them in standing fearlessly in the face of persecution.

Christians everywhere were horrified when an LDS Sacrament Service was disrupted by a murderous attack, that left 4 dead, many wounded, and the LDS Stake Center burned to the ground last September 28th. Little has been said about the events that miraculously kept the death toll of the violent attack from being much higher. This episode spotlights some of the tender mercies emersed in this violent experience. Miracles did indeed attend those in Sacrament Meeting at the Grand Blanc Michigan Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ worship service that day.

On March 6, 2015, 18-month-old Lily Groesbeck was trapped in their crushed car and hung upside down, alone for 14 hours. Tyler Beddoes and his fellow Spanish Fork police officers were investigating the wreckage of Jennifer Lynn Groesbeck’s car as it lay upside down in the Spanish Fork River. After rolling the wreck onto its side the officers heard a frantic cry coming from within the wreckage to save Lily. Lily’s guardian angel mother, had comforted her child through the night and knew she had to be rescued immediately after being submerged in the frigid river water. The story of the first Apostolic Martyr in the latter-days is not well known. The conversion and dedication of David W. Patten is inspiring. During his life he stood fearlessly in the face of evil. He even had an encounter with Cain, who he described as tall, wearing no clothes, covered with hair and very dark. That sounds like a description of Big Foot  Elder Patten was known as ‘Captain Fear Not’ during the time of LDS persecution in Missouri. He was feared by the mobs and revered by their victims. Before that time Elder Patten was known to have the gift of healing and healed almost all who were brought to him. He commanded the elements, and they obeyed. He was the President of the Quorum of the Twelve.

These 2 inspirational stories describe how angels came to the aid of young missionaries in their field of labor. Charles Woodward paid his way through BYU by boxing. His skill as a pugilist paved the way for him to box the Southern Hemisphere’s heavy weight champion, Kiotone Lave, immediately after his mission to Tonga. The heavily publicized fight took place in Aukland New Zealand. Elder Woodward’s motivation in arranging this match was to acquire the funds to send Mosese Muti and his wife, to the Aukland New Zealand Temple dedication where they could then receive their sealing ordinances. Charles and Mosese had worked side by side for over 2 years building chapels and spreading the message of the restoration of the gospel. Charles had come to love and respect this faithful hard working Tongan family, and desperately wanted to help them fulfill their dream of being sealed in the House of the Lord. Miracles in the Temple are not uncommon— it is the House of the Lord. As our brothers and sisters from beyond the veil are allowed to observe their redeeming ordinances performed, we are sometimes allowed to see their spirits. Many Latter-day Saints have been given this privilege. As we are performing proxy temple ordinances for those on the other side of the veil, we often hear their voice in our mind. Don’t tell the brethren. Dale loved the Native Americans he served them, not just during his term as mission president, but for the next 50 years. They trusted and loved him. Russell M. Nelson passes into the next life at 101 years old.. The main episode reveals there was an Ancient Library in the Hill Cumorah, referred to by Joseph Smith as a Grand Repository. The Spirit world is here among us. We are surrounded by angels, seen and unseen in our daily lives. They share divine insights, guidance and love with us. On rare occasions some of us may see and communicate with these spiritual beings with our mortal faculties. Some of us are privileged have visions and dreams from our departed loved ones. But, most of us receive these communications spirit to spirit, in the language of heaven in pure concepts. However we see or feel their presence and heavenly input. They are round about us. Brigham Young used this map to guide the saints to the valley of the Great Salt Lake. Little was known of this area, its climate, or Aboriginal people. Another copy of the map was given to the Mormon Battalion, and guided them to the Great Basin, after they were disbanded in San Diego. Dreams and visions were not only had by the prophets, but everyday men and women as they were gathered from the lost tribes of Isreal, from around the world. Black pioneers are part of our heritage. These wonderful men and women lived through the trials of their society at the time. Some were slaves, some were free blacks, but they all experienced the attitude and conditions of pre and post emancipation. Elijah Able, the first black member of the church, was ordained and Elder and a Seventy in the Melchizedek priesthood. He served 3 missions. He faithfully accepted changing policies as they directly influenced his worship, but not his testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ or his service in the kingdom of God on earth.
