Teachings from Calvary Chapel Liberty

We look at the triumphal entry of Jesus and the cursing of the fig tree. We learn about what th bible says about God's heart and plan for Israel.

We look at 1 Corinthians 16 and all the principles that it contains when talking about Gods will for your life, and how to determine if you're in it.

We look at Jesus last few stops before heading into Jerusalem for His final week before the cross. He teaches His disciples about true greatness and heals a blind man who was persistent.

If you were to give this message another title it might be: Children, Idols, and Promises. We spend much out time talking about what Jesus meant when he said for such is the kingdom of heaven. We also look at the rich young ruler, the disciples response, and the promise that Jesus gives to those who leave everything to follow Him.

In this section of the gospel of Mark Jesus is asked specifically about divorce. We take this opportunity to learn about what the bible teaches about marriage in general and the reason marriage is so important.

We look at the truth and effectiveness of the resurrection of Jesus. It is foretold in the scriptures, historically reliable, and logically cohesive. Jesus is alive and that affects everything in our life.

We look at all that took place on the night before Jesus went to the cross. The last supper, the teachings, the Garden at Gethsemane, His arrest, and ultimately the Cross.

Jesus is so patient with the disciples even as they don't get it. As Jesus is revealing more about the suffering He is going to endure they are talking about who will be the greatest in heaven. Jesus teaches them about how to be great in the kingdom and how to stay away from causing others or ourselves from falling into sin.

We look at the glory of the transfiguration of Jesus and the compassion He had toward a father and his son.

We are now half way through the Gospel of Mark. And this marks a turning point in the life and ministry of Jesus. He publicly declares that He is going to suffer and die, and the disciples are not ready to hear it.

We look at Jesus' journeys beyond Galilee that took Him all the way up into the region of Tyre and Sidon, which is modern day Lebanon. The invitation to come to Jesus is for everyone, and He will work in our lives in unexpected ways.

We look at Jesus confronting the Pharisees when they claim that their traditions are more important than the word of God.

We look at three scenes: one of Jesus most famous miracles, the feeding of the five thousand, Him walking on the water, and then healing many more in other towns and villages. One of the things that come up many times in this chapter is the reality that many people came to Jesus just for physical blessings and earthly needs.

We cover three scenes in our study together. Jesus rejected in His home town of Nazareth, sending out the twelve apostles on their own for the first time, and the beheading of John the Baptist. We look at the realities of rejection in ministry, the importance of going out two by two, and an incredible contrast between the cowardly and wicked Herod, and the brave and just John.

In just one chapter we see Jesus cast out thousands of demons from one man, heal a woman from over a decade of shame and suffering, and then raise a young girl from the dead. Jesus is the Lord of life and He wants to restore each of our lives.

We see Jesus begin to teach in parables, the first one being the parable of the soils. Jesus also explains why He is beginning to use parables. At the end of chapter 4 Jesus shows that He is not just a great teacher, but God Almighty, when even the wind and waves obey Him.

We see Jesus continue to contend with the Pharisees over their Sabbath traditions and even have to defend himself agains the accusation of being demon possessed. In addition to dealing with religious leaders and crowds, he's accused of being out of his mind by friends and family.

In this chapter we see Jesus healing and forgiving sin, calling a man to leave everything and follow him, and establishing his authority as the Lord of the Sabbath. We learn about friendship, faith, fasting, and feasting.

We look at the structure and emphasis of Mark's Gospel as a whole then spend most of our time looking at his testimony as recorded in scripture.

We go through verse by verse through Mark chapter 1 and see how Jesus started His ministry in power and authority.

We look at the Christmas story in the scriptures, including how hard it must have been for Joseph and Mary. We conclude with our key verse: “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21)
