That's For Sure with Carrie Ellen
by That's For Sure Podcast
I often catch myself responding to things my sons and husband say with that’s for sure. With simple things like, “hey mom, I’m getting super tall” or “it’s sooooooo hot out today.” That’s for sure. And the more I’ve said it over the years, the more I realized that many of us crave a life of certainty. It’s out of this that this podcast was born. I have so much to learn about living anchored and tethered to Jesus and I cannot wait to have conversations with folks who are in their lane and doing their thing.

Be sure and pre-order Kim’s latest book, Star for Jesus (And other Jobs I Quit). It releases in April and I cannot wait! Kim shared a bit about the Hope Heals camp run by Jay and Katherine Wolf. They are incredible and this camp Kim mentioned, looks and sounds a bit like heaven. I loved that Kim also shared that God has a stubborn, bottomless love for us and that he is good and 100% trustworthy. I hope you know this to be true in your life today dear listener. I think I’ll put on The Goodness of God song Kim mentioned and I hope you do too. Thanks for listening! Grateful, Carrie Ellen Did you know Carrie Ellen has a newsletter? Episode 7 - Bob Goff
Bob Goff is on the show today. Wowzers! I loved this conversation with Bob. Bob Goff is the author of the New York Times bestselling books Love Does, Everybody Always, Dream Big, and Undistracted. He is the Honorary Consul to the Republic of Uganda, an attorney, and the founder of Love Does—a nonprofit human rights organization operating in India, Uganda, Nepal, Somalia, Afghanistan, USA, Congo, Dominican Republic, Ukraine, Israel, and Burkina Faso. He’s a lover of balloons, cake pops, and helping people pursue their big dreams. Bob continues to be inspired by friendships he’s developed with others around the world who live their lives pursuing strategic ways to help others. You can typically find Bob writing and taking calls from his boat, welcoming people to The Oaks—his Southern California retreat center, or at an event speaking. Bob’s greatest ambitions in life are to love others, do stuff, and, most importantly, to hold hands with his wife, Sweet Maria Goff, and spend time with their amazing kids and grandkids. Thanks for listening. Episode 6 - A Christmas Conversation with Carrie and her son
Hello fine listeners and seasons greetings. I have loved having guests on the show like the author and CEO of the Come and See Foundation, Stan Jantz (episode 1), actress Laura Black (episode 2), pastor & church planter Kyle Costello (episode 3) and Bible teacher, fellow podcaster and author Ines Franklin (episode 4). If you missed any of those episodes, go take a walk and listen any time. They are really excellent. And don’t forget about last month's special Thanksgiving episode on gratitude. But as fun and fascinating as those earlier shows are, I think today's episode may just be my favorite. And for a special reason. You guys, my oldest son is today’s guest and I can’t wait for you to hear from him. He’s the one who named me mom. He’s an incredible big brother. He’s wise. He’s funny. He’s everything a boy should be. He’s curious, adventurous, kind, brave & an absolute blessing and gift to our family. So it’s no small thing I’m introducing him to you today on this very special Christmas episode. I talk about hope and some of the circumstances I faced when growing a family and then my boy encourages us all with a message of courage. He reminds us God is always with us and will never abandon us. Words, I believe we all need a reminder of this Christmas. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones. Hope is here. Grateful for you. Episode 5 - Thanksgiving with Carrie
Hello friends and happy thanksgiving week! I love Thanksgiving. And pie! But it hasn’t always been this way. Well except for the pie part. I’ve always loved pie. But I’ve struggled with the idea of living in gratitude, regardless of circumstance, and I bet you have too. It’s hard to give thanks when expectations are unmet or when we feel restless. During a particularly ungrateful season of my life, a dear friend asked me when the last time I made a list of what I was grateful for was. I couldn’t remember. But I took her advice and I began to create short lists of what I was grateful for every day. And slowly, my perspective shifted and I began to recognize more and more the abundance I had in my life. And not an abundance of things either. I was unemployed during this season. But rather, abundance of peace and of assurance of God’s presence. And this changed everything for me. In this episode I share my heart for gratitude and living a life of gratitude, worship and generosity. I hope it’s an encouragement to you. As a thank you to YOU for listening and by way of encouraging you this Thanksgiving season, click this link and download your free (yes FREE) Thanksgiving guide. I hope it’s a gift to you. Episode 3 - Kyle Costello
Today’s guest is my friend, Kyle Costello. Kyle is a pastor and a church planter who planted a church in Utah several years ago and most recently, just planted Refuge Church Ojai in the gorgeous Ojai Valley in Ca. In this episode, we talk briefly about Kyle’s upbringing in the Mormon faith, why he and his family have planted a church and how he’s seen God move through church planting. Links to some of the things mentioned on this episode: Refuge Church Ojai Valley Church Planting (The Orchard Group) – we didn’t necessarily talk about The Orchard Group, but I’m linking here in the event you want more info on the Ojai church plant or other church plants that may be in your area. @orchardgroup @refugechurchov Here’s a quote by Kyle that served me as such a great reminder that God is not afraid the hard stuff and places like we can be so often: “God looks at the hardest places and goes, that’s where we’re going now.” Here are a few ways Kyle suggests we can participate: Pray – “most churches in their first 15 years, see more people come to Jesus than in their next 50.” Support – give financially to church planting orgs/churches, write notes of encouragement to church planters Respond to how God is prompting you, even if it what you believe God is speaking to you sounds crazy. “As much as you are on mission, you are the mission. The gospel doesn’t make sense. But it’s the wisdom of God.” I love that Kyle wrapped up this episode by reminding us of the relentlessly and endless mercy of God. May you know his unending mercy in your life, friend. Sign up for Carrie’s newsletter here. Pick up your copy of That’s For Sure today and read about the time Carrie introduced herself as the worship pastor to a large church congregation when in fact, she was most definitely not the worship pastor. You’re welcome.

Introducing That's For Sure with Carrie Ellen
Hi everyone! My name is Carrie Ellen and I am so excited to be announcing my new podcast called That’s For Sure. I love a good conversation so hosting a podcast is right up my alley and something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I can’t believe it’s finally here. I’m wife to a pilot, a houseplant mom to many gorgeous green leaf friends, and I’m a boy mom to two sons who are just thee best. They’re still little and like me on most days. Well, except when I tell them to clean their room and on laundry day. Then not so much. I often catch myself responding to things my sons and husband say with that’s for sure. With simple things like, “hey mom, I’m getting super tall” or “it’s sooooooo hot out today.” That’s for sure. And the more I’ve said it over the years, the more I realized that many of us, crave a life of certainty. Too often throughout our day, we are bombarded with unknowns. Will we make rent this month? Will I have childcare next week? What will the interest rate be when I’ve finally saved enough for a downpayment? What’s the Dr. going to say about my test results? We live in a world of constant uncertainties. As a mom, I want my kids to be confident in the things they can absolutely be sure of. Because the reality is, the uncertainties of this life are fleeting faster than two shakes of a lamb’s tail. But the word of God will remain. Elpis is a Greek word for hope used a lot throughout the bible and it simply means, confident expectance that Jesus will do what he says he will do. This is an unshakable truth we can be absolutely sure of that trumps all uncertainty. He is our living hope and right now he is busy rescuing, restoring, renewing, reconciling all things. He’s building a kingdom and because he always does what he says he will do; we have assurance and hope to withstand all the uncertainties of life. It’s out of this prayer and passion that my sons anchor to the hope laced word of God that That’s For Sure podcast was born. I have so much to learn about living anchored and tethered to Jesus and I cannot wait to have conversations with folks who are in their lane and doing their thing. I am just thrilled to launch this podcast and hit the ground running learning from some truly incredible people who fling hope around like it’s their job. That's For Sure launches September 19, and you can follow the show right now on your favorite platform to get the new episodes the day they drop. I can’t wait for you to listen in, I know it will encourage you. You’re going to love it. That’s for sure!
