The Abide Podcast

In this teaching, we examine the motivation behind the coming of Jesus to this earth and what compelled Him to enter our broken world. We look beyond the familiar story to consider the heart of God revealed in the incarnation: His love, mercy, and redemptive purpose. By exploring Scripture, we are reminded that Jesus did not come merely to set an example or offer moral guidance, but to save us from our sins and restore what was lost. This teaching invites us to respond not only with understanding, but with worship, gratitude, and renewed faith in the Savior who came for us.

This week we turn our hearts to Joy. Not the shallow kind that fades with circumstances, but the deep, steady joy that comes from meeting Jesus. In Matthew 2v1-12 the Magi traveled far, following a light in the sky with hope in their hearts. And when the star stopped over the place where Jesus was, Matthew tells us: “They rejoiced with exceeding great joy.” These wise men didn’t come empty-handed. Their gifts(gold, frankincense, and myrrh) were expressions of worship. But the greatest gift they brought was their joy-filled surrender to be laid at the feet of the newborn King.

In Matthew 1v18–25, Joseph’s life is thrown into confusion: fear, uncertainty, and questions he never expected. Yet into that chaos, God brings the first word of Christmas: “Fear not.” This passage shows that peace is not the absence of trouble, but the presence of Immanuel, God with us. Jesus enters a messy world and brings calm, clarity, and courage to trembling hearts. As we reflect on this story in the Advent season, we discover that true peace isn’t found in quiet circumstances, but in the God who draws near and stays with His people.

Matthew opens his Gospel with a genealogy that highlights four surprising women: Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and Bathsheba. Their stories include pain, loss, scandal, and outsider status, yet God weaves each of them into the family line of Jesus. This teaching will explore how their inclusion reveals the heart of the gospel: Jesus enters broken stories, welcomes the unlikely, and brings redemption where it’s least expected. Matthew’s list isn’t just names, t’s a reminder that God’s grace reaches all of us.

Hebrews 4:1–13 calls believers to a deep, urgent examination of the heart. God has opened a way into His rest, a rest far greater than the land of Canaan and deeper than physical Sabbath rhythms. It is the rest of salvation, trust, obedience, and intimate fellowship with Christ. Yet the writer warns that this promise, though offered, can be missed through unbelief and hardened hearts.

A teaching from John 4: Jesus and the woman at the well. We glean truths from Jesus' interaction, his wisdom, his pursuit of truth and his compassion for this Samaritan woman.

Our message is not about ourselves, but the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The writer of Hebrews shows that Jesus is superior to angels because of His unique Sonship, eternal throne, and divine authority. Angels are mighty servants, but Jesus is the eternal King.

A witness is not just someone who “does evangelism,” but someone who lives in such a way that their life points to Christ. That life in relationship with Christ is built through abiding in Him and bearing fruit out of that abiding relationship.

This teaching reminds us that every act of work and service, whether noticed or hidden, is ultimately done for Christ. True service is not about earning approval from people but about honoring the Lord with wholehearted devotion. When we serve in this way, our daily tasks, whether at home, work, church, or in the community become acts of worship. This passage calls us to shift our perspective: service isn’t drudgery or duty, but a joyful offering to God who rewards faithfulness.

Hebrews 1:1–4 shows Jesus as the radiance of God’s glory and the final revelation of God. He is the exact imprint of God’s nature, the One through whom all things were created and are sustained, the Savior who purified us from sin, and the King now seated at God’s right hand. These verses call us to see Christ as supreme over all and to listen as God speaks to us through Him.

This teaching explores Jesus’ sobering words about the final judgment, where He separates the nations like a shepherd separates sheep from goats. The defining mark of the righteous is not wealth, knowledge, or status, but their willingness to serve “the least of these.” Jesus identifies Himself with the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the sick, and the imprisoned—showing that how we treat the vulnerable is, in fact, how we treat Him.

Galatians 5:13 reminds us that we are called to freedom in Christ, but this freedom is not for self-indulgence—it is for loving service. Through love, we are to serve one another, using our freedom to build up the family of God rather than tear it down. True service is not driven by guilt or obligation but by the Spirit, who empowers us to put others before ourselves. Serving the family of God means practicing humility, meeting real needs, and seeking the good of others so that the whole body of Christ is strengthened. This teaching challenges us to see service not as a burden but as the natural expression of gospel freedom and love.

In this passage, Paul calls believers to “put on the whole armor of God” so they can stand firm against the schemes of the enemy. This teaching unpacks each piece of spiritual armor—the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of the gospel of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, and sword of the Spirit—and shows how they work together in our daily spiritual battles. Paul also emphasizes the vital role of prayer, reminding us that the fight is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces of darkness. This message encourages us to live alert, equipped, and prayerful, standing strong in the victory of Christ.
