The Chest of broken Glass is an old folk tale about a father who has grown old- to old to care for himself, and in order to gain more time from his three sons who only visit now and then, fills an old locked chect with broken glass. The sons, upon seeing the chect, and hearing the content inside, believe their father has filled it with gold, and decide to take turns living with and caring for their father further into his old age.  In Federalist No. 55 one of our nations founders James Madison, admits that for our democratic republic to work, its elected leaders must be honest and virtuous- otherwise,it will become ruled by tyrants. 

"After Twenty Years" — Summary Set on a quiet, rain‑slicked street in early‑20th‑century Manhattan, After Twenty Years explores loyalty, fate, and the unexpected turns life can take. Two friends—Jimmy Wells and Bob—made a pact twenty years earlier to meet again at the same spot, no matter where life had taken them. When the night finally arrives, one man keeps the appointment… but the reunion that follows is not the one either of them imagined. O.     Henry delivers one of his most famous twist endings here—an ending that raises questions about duty, friendship, and the choices that define us. "Brickdust Row" — Summary In Brickdust Row, O. "A Love Passage" is a lighthearted maritime comedy from W.W. In Scandinavia, there is a phenomenon known as the Moskstraumen or Moskenstraumen, a system of tidal whirlpools found in the Lofoten archipelago in Nordland county (in Norway) between the Norwegian Sea and the Vestfjorden. This Moskstraumen was the inspiration for Poe's tale. Poe learnt about the maelstrom from several sources, which included an 1834 story in Fraser's Magazine titled 'The Maelstrom: A Fragment'. 'A Descent into the Maelstrom' is a classic example of Poe's incorporation of real-life, non-fiction accounts of phenomena into fiction. The story provides us with something that real life almost certainly never could: what would it be like to be caught up in such a powerful force as the Maelstrom and yet live to tell the tale? Much like people who claim to have had near-death experiences in which they have seen the 'other side', the white-haired man experienced, and survived, something that nobody else had. Many of Edgar Allan Poe's tales focus on protagonists who find themselves in trouble because of their own behaviour: so the murderer in 'The Tell-Tale Heart' is driven mad by his own guilt (or, depending on how you read that ambiguous story, by the supernatural beating of his victim's heart beneath the floorboards), while the cat-killer in 'The Black Cat' also brings his subsequent haunting and bad luck upon his own head through his cruelty to his pet. METhe Three Wise Men by Damon Runyan tells the story of three mobsters who stop to help a woman having a baby, and find unexpected redemption for their troubles. Damon Runyan, a New York city sports writer and author, rose to fame in the prohibition era for his colorful stories which involved characters typical of the shady side of Brooklyn.  Runyan's stories were always narrated by one of these nameless mobsters, and always spoken in the present tense.  This style became very popular in movies in the thirties and forties.
