Episode 85 - BTS of Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show
Hi loveliesSo this year, I decided it was time to get involved in Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show. 10 years into floristry and now felt like the time to jump in this incredible event in the floral calendar and DAMN am I glad I did. My first ever floral competition, creating a 6m x 2m hanging installation in another city... and we brought home the Bronze Award and I could not have been more thrilled. If this year is all about Elevation and Intention for me, this was an incredible way to do both of those things. In this episode I'm taking you behind the scenes of my Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show experience, sharing the logistics, the costs, the camaraderie, my mindset throughout the week and the incredible lessons I learnt from this experience. So grab yourself a cup of tea. If you've ever considered getting involved in a floral competition or wanted to know what it really looks like to be a part of something like this - this episode is for you. Episode 84 - All my houseplants are dying: The things I'm putting down right now, to go all in on my goals
Well hello my loves, it's been a while!Right now, there's a lot going on in my business, we're moving premises, opening a retail store, heading over to Melbourne for the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, planning our upcoming courses, and all in all, taking the business up a few levels of elevation. It's a really exciting start to the year, and also it's pretty full on. And lately I've had a few people say 'I don't know how you're doing it all' 'are you ok though' 'how are you managing all of this' These are all valid points. Really they are. And the truth is, I'm feeling a little bit stressed, but mostly I'm doing pretty good and I'm incredibly content with life and business right now. So in this episode, I'm sharing with you what I'm putting down, in order to go all in on my goals and the strategies and mindset I'm employing to quote unquote 'manage it all'. Whenever I set a new goal, I also think about what might have to be sacrificed in order for me to focus on that. What might need to change in my day to day so I can get the things done that need to get done. And which of the balls I'm juggling will bounce if I drop one, and which would smash. So if you're creating a goal, decide what you need in order to do it and what you need to put down in order to pick this up.

Welcome to our first guest episode of 2026!! In this ep, I'm chatting to Perth Wedding Content Creator Shelby Ogden from Weddings with Shelby.Recently featured on Sunrise, Shelby has made serious and extraordinary moves within the wedding industry. She has built a fully booked business purely through organic content and now helps other wedding vendors realise their own potential and create the same level of demand in their businesses.Shelby has built her brand from the ground up and is now one of the most iconic and in-demand wedding vendors here in Perth. Episode 82 - 2016: More than just a trend
Hello my loves! I want to talk about the 2016 trend. You will have seen this all over insta and I am really loving it and that’s because 2016 feels a little special to me, because for me it’s actually a pivotal moment - the year I started my floristry busieness, so the significance of 2016 and 2026 was something I wanted to share anyway and now it’s a trend. So yay!I started my floristry business in 2016 when I was 30 so yes, I’m about to be 40 and this year marks 10 years ago we started, me and all my personalities, from my 10 x 6 ground floor apartment dining room table. So this year I’m celebrating a decade in my business, a decade of floristry. You will have heard the phrase 'don’t compare your year one for somebody else’s year 10' And I completely agree, you absolutely should not be comparing your one to someone else’s 10 but it doesn’t mean that you can’t go after what the person at that year 10 is doing, it just might take time to get there. It probably will in fact, and it probably should. But if you’re not aiming for it how will you possibly achieve it …by accident? So in this episode I'm winding the clock back to 2016 and sharing with you the key differences between my business in year 1 and now in year 10 and giving you an indepth insight to what my business really looks like now. Enjopy my loves x

Episode 81 - 2026 Here We Go - Elevation with Intent
How are you? How has the year begun for you?I'm starting the year in a strange energy - there’s the expectation of the new year energy, the buzz of new goals and things to chase, and in reality, all of those things have been present for me, they’ve just also been mixed in with school holidays, caring for children, working from home more and wanting to be present in all of those things... the juggle is real... and it's only a few more weeks before a more efficient routine can drop in.My words of the year for 2026 are ELEVATE with INTENTION Everything I’m doing this year is under the guidance of elevation. And every move I make is curated with Intention. Because I know this year is going to be big. Because I intended it so, and because environmentally it is. In this episode, I'm sharing what my 2026 looks like, and how I plan to make $1million in my business this year. Feel uncomfortable about that, then lean in and listen in and let's change your thinking about what's possible for you too! Want more of me in your ears and more of this strategy in your biz, join me in The Bloom-print Membership and let’s start getting you on track to your unique business goals in 2026.

Episode 80 - 2025 Wrapped in a Bow
Ahhhhh it’s that time of year. The 2025 season is coming to an end. I’m just waiting for that audio to come back next week haha. This year has been big on so many levels. And I’ve actually loved this year. It’s been one of my best years in business, I’ve travelled alot, I’ve learnt SOOO much, my relationship with my husband has been really strong, I feel more connected to my kids, myself and really who I want to be and how I want to show up in the world and as I was writing this episode, I felt myself going to downplay it, justify it even, that if there’s been lots of highs there must have been alot of mud to wade through to get there. And really there hasn’t. Now I know that’s not everyone’s experience of 2025 but for me it’s been a really amazing year. And I’ve really enjoyed it. So to end the year, I want to share with you, the key things that have served me this year, that I’m packing in my back, and throwing on my back with my face beaming toward the sun for 2026. The key lessons from 2025 that will be guiding me firmly into 2026. And nows the point where I ask what will be guiding you through 2026? What things from this year have you taken lessons from, what’s been your best attribute that’s pushed you through this year? What’s made and business easier for you in 2025? Carry those through, keep them in your back pocket for when you need it most. Happy New Year my loves x

Episode 78 - Growth is Exponential
Hello my loves! I have had something on my heart lately that I’m actually really looking forward to diving into with you on this episode, because I want to talk about how growth is often exponential and you might not be able to see how the picture in your mind could ever eventuate and then suddenly it’s here. In this episode I'm sharing how that happens and the changes I’ve experienced in my business and in myself just in the last 12 months. And I’m not going to just tell you the what, we’re also going to talk about the how.Because if you'd told me in August last year that in 12 months time I would have done a month's trip with my family while my business thrived and I'd be diving into buying another business - I would have rolled my eyes and thrown my laptop out a hotel window in defiance. But spoiler alert - that IS where I'm currently at! I know, I know - new business is loading - just you wait, I can't wait to share more! But there's so much that could be just around the corner for you too! Growth isn't linear, its a loopy mess, AND it has this magnificent way of compounding quickly and growing exponentially, before your very eyes! If you're looking for your piece of that - join me in our Zero to Six Figures in person strategy session Monday 10 November 2025 6pm - 8.30pm in our studio in Bassendean where I'll break it all down for you and show you just what's possible at a time when you just can't see the forest through the trees. So here’s the tea: I’m taking a whole month off to go to Europe with my little family. We’ve been planning this trip for a long time. Episode 71 - Up with Creativity, Down with Guilt
We just had a long weekend in Perth and I spent the long weekend doing absolutely nothing - no plans, literally none, we were just at home… doing nothing. Usually, I would use long weekends to do all the things, you know the drill right, when you’ve got an extra day and everyone just migrates to bunnings and runs extra errands and drinks more because you’ve got 3 weekend nights, and you’re seeing this person and that person and and and and and. We ‘Use’ the time productively or socially. Because we’ve been taught that being busy, and being productive is our purpose. But doing nothing... something really surprising happened. It unlocked my creativity and in this episode I'm sharing all about the power of doing nothing to reset and redirect creativity. Isn't it about time you slowed down and really focussed on what you want? Yeah, it is. If you're craving a bit more of that - come to the Wedding Flowers Retreat 4-6 July!We have limited spaces this year, it’s going to be a beautiful intimate and calm weekend where we can get really creative and expansive in our thinking and create some absolutely stunning on trend ceremony and reception statements. Retreats and intensive training experiences are always always expansive, and I look forward to seeing that happen for you. The payment plans are incredibly flexible. So hit it up and I’ll see you there flourishing my love! Here's the deets: https://www.mwfloralartacademy.com.au/wedding-flowers-weekender-retreat-1

So the event world is starting to quieten down a bit, and instead of rushing from install to install, we get to breathe a little bit. Reflect. Dream. Episode 68 - Quitting My Day Job
Last week we were doing an install in a corporate building on a Monday morning. We were there at 5am and were actually buzzing to make a 2m ANZAC wreath. Around 6am workers started to shuffle in and one lady in her 50s clutching a coffee cup says ' You've got the good job', and I thought to myself, 'yeah I really do!'I used to be that office worker dreaming perhaps of a different life, dreading Monday. I used to get this pull to do something else, as if someone was physically reaching into my chest to turn my heart and steer me somewhere else. And that's how Maple & Wren was born. In 2019, I made a plan to leave my job by the end of that year and in this episode, I'm sharing exactly how I did that, and how the business has bloomed over the last 5 years. If this has got your heart aching a bit… my love you need The Bloom-Print membership in your life. Let me help you turn your side hustle into your sole income so you can be the one ‘the good job’ instead of the shuffling office worker.Join The Bloom-Print Membership now.

Episode 66 - On Doing Hard Things
We’ve all told ourselves that wonderful therapeutic line ‘This is hard, and I can do hard things’ and so far this year, I challenged myself to do a hard thing. My husband and I recently completed the 75 Hard Challenge and it has been really good for me in the most inconvenient way. So, if you’re sitting there like what the fuck is 75 hard. Let me break it down for you. It’s a personal development challenge you can start at any time and you do it for 75 days, it was started in 2019 by an entrepreneur named Andy Frisella. In a nutshell for For 75 days straight, you must complete all six of these tasks without exception:Follow a diet – Any diet you choose, but no cheat meals and no alcohol. Two 45-minute workouts per day – One must be outdoors, no matter the weather.Drink 1 gallon (3.8L) of water daily.Read 10 pages of a non-fiction book – Focus on personal development. No audiobooks.Take a progress picture daily. No skipping or modifications – If you miss any task, you start over from Day And let me tell you - this is an inconvenient challenge - and that's precisely the point! In this episode I'm sharing all of the lessons I took from this challenge, how it's impacted me and my habits and behaviours and how the actual fuck I made the time for this with a husband that works away every fortnight, 2 small children and a business to run. You're welcome! If you're looking for support with all the hard things you're doing right now - my love I'm here to help! Episode 63 – I’ve been glued to my phone lately – and I’m totally ok with it
I’ve been glued to my phone lately And here’s why I’m completely ok with it. I’ve been working alot lately, glued to my phone and my laptop. The week before school went back especially, I had my phone out on almost every walk I went on, in the sauna, before bed, while watching TV (or not watching evidently), once at 11pm because I couldn’t sleep and my brain was ticking with ideas I had to write down. While my kids are having breakfast I’m on my laptop. After they go to bed laptop. Husband pops to the shop - laptop. Phone Laptop Laptop Phone. From an outsider’s perspective this might sound a bit obsessive. And you know what - it is! And here’s why that’s ok. Because on some level - you have to be obsessed with your business in order for it to grow. Right now I am in a hustle phase in my business - I’m going after things, I’m setting new KPIs for myself and the business and I’m not resting until they’re reached. I’m allowing my brain to think creatively and I’m harnessing every idea and acting on it immediately, even if it’s messy, even if everything isn’t perfectly thought out. And the compounded action is creating my own momentum. I know I won’t hustle this hard the whole year, and I don’t INTEND to. my hustle-o-metre will change each month and quarter to align with my goals and what the business needs from me then and each term with what my family needs from me. But I do INTEND to now. This is a very intentional hustle phase and you know what. I actually love it! Can we normalise - working in your business, working on your business, and actually loving working on your business? Because from where I’m sitting it’s pretty freakin good!

So, I want to share what I’ve learned to help you make smarter choices. We’ll chat about the balance between reinvesting in your business without overextending yourself, the mindset shifts that make spending feel less daunting, and the key areas that will actually move the needle, both in general business and floristry-specific investments. The goal? To help you grow intentionally and build a business that lasts.I’d love to hear what you’re focusing on this year—share your biggest business investments with me on Instagram @mapleandwren_floralartacademyIf you are craving some clear direction for your business, someone to help you step by step up the staircase of building a business - join us in The Bloom-Print Membership and get the support you need to really thrive in 2025! Episode 57 - A little bit of growth
Hey, lovely! In this episode, I’m sharing all about my whirlwind trip to Broome, where I spent two incredible days with Jemma and Tash from The Broome Florist at the end of November. Having grown up in the Northern Territory and North West WA, this trip brought back so many memories and gave me a fresh perspective on just how far I’ve come in my business landing at a completely auspicious time. This episode is a celebration of growth, mindset shifts, and what’s possible when you step outside your comfort zone. Episode 55 - I took a break in peak season
Last week I just took myself for a 2 night hotel stay … by myself! I know, What a bloody boujie b*tch! 2 weeks ago I was starting to lose it a bit with the kids, my husband Mark was away for work, my 2 year old was going through a developmental leap and waking 3 times a night, my daughter was really pushing the boundaries, probably because she wanted my attention and work was non-stop. And there were a few unforeseen problems I needed to solve that were taking a bit of my attention. A fortnight ago I felt tired and cranky and scattered and foggy and like I was going through the motions and as you might have guessed from the title of this episode – I don’t feel like that anymore because – controversially – I took a break in the middle of peak season. In this episode I'm sharing the importance of making space for yourself, gaining clarity and rest to put your best self forward in all aspects of your life.

Episode 54 - Stop Making Your Pricing About You
If you second guess your pricing, constantly reduce it because you feel like you're charging too much, or change the pricing when your client cries 'it's too expensive, can you do it for less?' or simply - have no idea what to charge and are just guessing - then this episode is for you!Your pricing should not be based on how YOU feel. It should be based on the industry minimum standard and what the general expected pricing is in your city, region, area. We all want to be able to best service our clients - so let's focus on what we can do for our clients rather than what we cant - without compromising our profit margins. In this episode, I'm sharing advise on how to price, what to consider, what not to compromise on and WHY your pricing should be a MINIMUM of product x 3.

Episode 52 - I wasn't built for running
I used to tell myself ‘I wasn’t built for running’ I used to joke about it infact. I’m 5 foot in heels and a stocky little thing. I wasn’t athletic growing up and I didn’t really do sports as an extra curricular. Last weekend I ran my first half marathon, at the age of 38, I decided if not now, then when and also – why not? Why couldn’t I. At the beginning of this year when I started training, I couldn't run 3km and last weekend, I ran 21km with 5000 other West Aussies. And man it has taught me so much and been the best self development journey and challenge. In this episode I'm sharing with you my running journey and the key 9 things I've learnt - about running, life and business - from training for a half marathon. So tune in and let's get physical! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If youre ready to get more of this awesome source in your businesses then sign up for The Bloom-Print Membership to help you get on your way towards your next business step!Sign up now: https://mapleandwrenacademy.thinkific.com/memberships/the-bloom-print-membership

Episode 50 - If Not Now... WHEN?
Last week one of my clients asked me 'El, do you really think I can do this, like should I really be doing this?' and it's not the first time I've been asked that question or had a conversation about whether you're too old or it's too late to be getting into something new - and it wasn't even the first time that week I'd had that conversation. This sort of thing comes up alot with my mentoring clients, and in my Instagram DMs and with my floral students. So in this episode I'm shifting your thinking about being too old, or it being too late or being ill equipped because IF NOT NOW... THEN WHEN?Life is a pretty long journey and if you wanted to you could pick a different career every decade and still have 5 or 6 pretty amazing careers in your life. And spoiler alert - you are not too old and it is NOT too late! So if you're needing a little pick me up, a little spark into action, a bit of self-belief - allow this to be it - tune in, because this is the podcast for you!

Episode 45 - Do You Need a Business Coach?
Hello my loves - today, we're talking about coaching. I recently saw a post in a wedding and event suppliers Facebook group that said and I quote: “who has a business coach and do you find it’s worth it? How much do you pay? Are you seeing amazing (not just good) results?” Now I found some of the comments really interesting on this post and I also gave my input and I thought it would be worth sharing some of that insight with you as well. Because I get it - investing in anything is a risk - and sometimes it pays off and sometimes it doesn’t - but the key is being sure you’re always investing in your own growth as a small business owner. I’ve also had a few questions lately since we launched the Bloom-Print membership - mostly of people wanting to know whether that’s the right fit for them or whether 1:1 mentoring would suit better. And my first piece of advice is to work out what your goals are - what you’re wanting to work towards and what level of support you need to get there. Honestly one of the best things you can do at this stage is a SWOT analysis - Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. So in this episode I’m going to do is break down this question for you in a few parts with a bit more detail because I know you deserve it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Looking for help setting your own business rules? As you might have gathered - that is totally my jam!And that's why I started The Bloom-Print Membership. If you’re tired of not seeing results, of accepting that times are tough and waiting it out, if you’re done with operating on a reactive basis, if you’re just starting and want to get your business set up right, if you’re looking for support to scale your business - The Bloom-Print Membership is for you! Episode 44 - Nothing Comes for Free
Hello my loves welcome back to The Bloom-Print Podcast. I have had a lot of conversations lately about 'freebies' – about when to do them, what should be considered a freebie and how valuable or not doing freebies can be.So in this episode I want to share a couple of these instances with you and my views on this based on the experiences I’ve had and where I’ve got it right and wrong. We're talking collaborations, photoshoots and offering discounted rates or free product/service. Now, I am actually a big fan of collaborations. I’ve done a lot of them over the years between expos and styled shoots where I’ve collaborated with a group of vendors to bring a complete product or vision to life that benefits all the vendors in displaying work they want to do more of. The key is making sure you’re aligned with the vendors, that you are a part of the planning and that you’re showing work that fits your style that you want to get more of. If you’re just showing the same work you do all the time – chances are you already have imagery or content of that – styled shoots and expos are your opportunity to display and gain more of the kind of work you want to do in the future. But you don’t have to say yes, just because someone asks you. Find out who the vendor team is, get a moodboard or inspo images of the style, work out what the cost of your contribution actually is. Freebies - can be a bit of a different story. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Looking for help setting your own business rules? As you might have gathered - that is totally my jam!And that's why I started The Bloom-Print Membership. If you’re tired of running around like a headless chook, if you’re constantly feeling reactive in your business, if you’re just starting and want to get your business set up right, if you’re looking for support to scale your business - The Bloom-Print Membership is for you!A 12 month program where you get combined business support, mindset support, live lessons from guest presenters on all areas of business, and a treasure trove of wedding and event business resources, templates and tools to help you get in the drivers seat for a smooth AF ride. And right now to celebrate our business birthday - we're giving you $200 off The 12 month Bloom-Print Membership!*This offer is valid until 20 August following which it will go up to $1500/year or $125/month on a 12 month plan.Sign up today and join The Bloom-Print Membership!

Hello my loves welcome back to The Bloom-Print Podcast. This month we are celebrating 8 years in the floristry business – 8 years! Episode 40 - Retreat Wrap Up
Hello my loves welcome back to The Bloom-Print Podcast – how actually are you? In today's episode we're reliving all of the beauty that was the Wedding Flowers Weekender Retreat: how awesome the weekend was, what we did, how it was structured, and how incredible the group of humans was that participated in the retreat. I have first hand experience of the power of retreat style training where you can immerse yourself in something without the external factors, without having to go home each night to the daily grind, without having to do pick ups and dinner and organise everything in your life around training. When you go on a retreat, you’re able to really be present, to absorb the content and to give 100% of your focus to your business or the training pursuit. I think it’s so important, for women particularly, that they do take this time out, that they do give themselves opportunities for growth in themselves and their passions because I think it’s a typical trait (and societal expectation) that women put everyone else before them and often it can be to our own or our business’s detriment because we spend time doing the things in our homes or for our families we feel we ‘should’ be doing instead of the tasks in our business that are waiting that might actually propel it forward or make us money because #familycomesfirst. I’m not saying that family doesn’t come first, mine are at the forefront of everything I do, AND I really love what I do and want to do it instead of getting my kids snacks every 10 minutes for sure. This retreat was a mix of luxury floral design, business advice and planning, networking and connection, relaxation and breathing out, garnished with hearty meals and beautiful conversation. It truly was a magical experience and I can't wait to do the next one! If you can't wait to join us - email me at [email protected] with the subject 'Retreat waitlist' and I'll put you on the waitlist to be the first to know when the new date and deets are released. Enjoy this episode! And if you're loving the podcast, we'd love it if you could leave us a 5 star review!

Episode 39 - Cheaper Does Not Equal Better
Want to hear a story from a bride who didn’t book us? Outrageous I know – but it does happen. It happens a lot actually. We're working on boosting our conversion rate, but not by reducing my pricing. Because cheaper, my loves, does not equal better and today, I’m going to share with you, a few anecdotes as well as some cold hard facts on this. In the last year – I’ve had clients choose florists $4000 cheaper than my quote, I’ve had clients choose florists $10,000 cheaper than my quote, Now I only know that because I asked them or the stylist for feedback. I’ve had clients ghost me. I’ve had clients sign contracts and then go with someone who came in cheaper, I’ve had clients downscale their weddings, I’ve also had clients upscale their weddings, I’ve had clients come back and add another $2000 to their orders. I’ve had clients ask for my genuine input on whether something will work or not and whether they should make it bigger, I’ve had other clients disregard that advice due to cost. You name it, the last year has bought it. And so has any year in business. Sometimes you feel it a bit harder than others. But there are always going to be tough times in business and there are always going to be suppliers who come in cheaper, just as there are going to be clients who ghost you. It's all over the internet and all over the faces of people we pass by in the streets. Times are tough right now. The economic situation is tough. People are stretched. And anecdotally the wedding industry (at least in Perth) is feeling it. But do not buy into the idea that no one is buying, because that’s simply not true. People are being more selective with where they choose to spend their money and if they value something, they are spending money on it. Tune in to find out more on what happens when you compromise your pricing and what you can do instead to attract your ideal clients to spend their money with you. If you are looking for real strategies and assistance to get your pricing right and upgrade your sales tactics - get on the waitlist for The Bloom-Print Membership - our program for wedding, event and creative businesses to get clear on their goals and start making profit in their businesses. Episode 38 – Not the time to hibernate
Good morning my loves – I hope you’re having a sensational week! Well it’s officially June and the end of wedding season. This time of year the floral jobs in the wedding space tend to slow down in Australia. The key season for most Australian cities is September to April so over the winter months when it’s cold and dreary, when no one wants to be outside from basically May – August it’s usually fairly light on for weddings. Don’t get me wrong, there are still weddings that take place – the hotels and indoor spaces keep ticking along through winter, but the volume of weddings significantly decreases and so for many wedding suppliers, this is off season. Now – is that a bad thing? In today's episode, we explore how to maximize your business potential year-round. We delve into understanding seasonal trends, reflecting on your business model, and creating a marketing strategy for the next 6-12 months. We discuss various marketing channels, including attending expos, networking events, and utilizing paid ads on social media platforms. Additionally, we emphasize the importance of content creation during the off-season, promoting consultations and bookings, developing email marketing campaigns, networking effectively, and investing in upskilling opportunities to ensure continuous growth and success.Remember that the off-season is a golden opportunity to focus on business generation. By planning and marketing during the slow months, you can ensure a strong start to the next wedding season. Networking, content creation, and upskilling are crucial for continuous growth. Take advantage of this time to strategize and prepare, so your business thrives year-round.
