E27 Prof. James Brown - Adult ADHD. How to spot it and why diagnosis is so difficult

Professor James Brown is a Director of JBHD Ltd, and an Associate Professor in Biosciences at Aston University in the UK. He has a significant presence in the field of ADHD, especially for adults, and has become a well-known figure due to his extensive work and personal experiences with ADHD. James was diagnosed with ADHD in February 2021, after being aware of living with it for about five years. #adhd stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. People with ADHD have lots of energy and they can have difficulty concentrating. It can be hard for people with ADHD to control what they say and do – this can mean that they do things and speak impulsively (when you act or speak without thinking it through first). Symptoms of ADHD can start early in life. People with ADHD might struggle in their personal lives and they can experience difficulties in relationships with friends and family. ADHD is heritable disorder (this means that parents can pass it on to their children through their genes and DNA), so ADHD often runs in families. People with ADHD might find it helpful to speak to their family and share experiences. Signs: Finding it hard to pay attention and concentrate Being easily distracted Daydreaming a lot Having overactive thinking Finding it hard to organise yourself and your things Often acting quickly before thinking about it first because you’re impulsive or your mood is unstable Being physically over-active Feeling restless or fidgety James Brown is notably active in several ADHD-related initiatives. James is a co-founder of #ADHDadultUK, a registered UK charity focused on supporting #adultsADHD. He also co-founded Focusmag.uk, an evidence-based online magazine, and The ADHD Adults Podcast, which discusses issues related to adult ADHD, while sharing evidence-based information and personal experiences. In addition to these roles, James is also an author, public speaker, consultant, science communicator, and ADHD coach. His contributions to the field extend to writing on health-related matters, with a notable readership, including over 2.3 million reads on The Conversation, a platform for academic and research community contributions. Through his various roles and platforms, James actively contributes to raising awareness, providing support, and offering educational resources about ADHD, particularly for adults. JBHD Ltd provides services for the adult ADHD community and organisations. Services include individual ADHD coaching, couples ADHD coaching, public talks on ADHD, institutional training on ADHD, and advice and support for various organisations, including the media, the NHS, government bodies, and companies. #adhd #adhdadults #adhddiagnosis #livingwithadhd

Trey Pratt: Overcoming Adversity Through Jiu-Jitsu Domestic violence, abuse, and neglect dominated Trey Pratt's childhood. Feeling hopeless and not expecting to live past 30, Trey had given up on life. However, his destiny took a turn when he started listening to "The Joe Rogan Experience." Joe Rogan, a well-known advocate for Jiu-Jitsu, has inspired many to join the martial art. Initially, Trey didn’t give it much thought, but fate had other plans. He fell in love with the discipline, began training kids, and they quickly became fond of him. His triumph over dyslexia, even in moments like spelling 'Vivienne Westwood' wrong in a cover letter, didn’t hold him back—he got hired anyway. Tuesday Talks with Liz Brewer - an enchanting and highly successful businesswoman with endless amounts of energy! My last interviewee in Season 1. Thank you, Liz! Liz Brewer walks us through her life adventures, from being a debutante in high society and networking daily, to deciding not to be just 'someone's wife.' Moving to London, she continued her career and worked with highly successful and famous clients. She shares some of these events and acknowledges that to move ahead, we also need the right connections. Relationships are everything. Her impression of Ivana Trump is unparalleled :) Not many women get engaged six times!! Liz managed that and in the end, marries the Lion man himself, John Rendall. She walks us through how they met as well as not ever receiving a ring from him, as he deemed her unreliable when rigs are at play. Their daughter Tallulah Rendall was also my guest, a family affair. Her memory, a beacon of light in the darkest of times, was snatched away too soon, leaving Olu to navigate the turbulent waters of grief with two young sons by his side.As he shares his journey, Olu unveils the poignant chapters of his life, etched with the scars of rejection and the sting of discrimination. Their love transcended boundaries, but societal shackles threatened to suffocate its flame. He speaks of the anguish of not being embraced by his father-in-law, solely due to the pigment of his skin, a wound that cut deep into his spirit.Yet, in the symphony of fate, a chance event spun the wheels of change. Through perseverance and unwavering love, Olu's steadfastness softened hearts, erasing the lines of prejudice, and paving the path for acceptance and reconciliation. In a world that often measures strength by stoicism, Coco poses a poignant question: "Do men cry?" The answer reverberates through the chambers of masculinity, breaking down walls of misconception. Yes, men cry. And in the sacred space of brotherhood, they find solace, healing, and the courage to embrace vulnerability.#LoveTranscends#EmbraceDiversity#StrengthInVulnerability#HealingThroughSharing#cancer#cancersurvivor#mywifehascancer#men#menhealing#mendocry#interracialmarriage#interracialrelationship#loveofmylive#relationships#love#tuesdaytalks#marriage

E2: Dr. Katherine Bejanyan - Specialising in cross-cultural romantic relationships & relationships in general

Tuesday Talks: Relationships/Couples: We’ve been taught that as long as two people really love each other, they can overcome anything. The important part is finding love, the rest will fall into place. The truth is that even happy couples disagree on most things and experience conflict and challenges. It's how you handle the challenges that will determine whether you grow closer together and strengthen the love in the relationship or start to break apart.Dating/Singles: This idea that there is a ‘right person’ for everyone has created doubt in too many relationships and lead to many breakups. Often we believe the hard part is finding our true love but once we do, the relationship will naturally fall into place If there is conflict, we worry, it must be because we’re not with ‘the right person’. In reality, we need more than just chemistry, that's the easy part. We also need compatibility, compromise and commitment to make things work.Relationships, like most things in life, require skill and understanding. While it is true that forming a romantic connection is natural experience, how to make sure the person you are with is the right one for you, how to make your relationship happy, successful and full of love requires a conscious understanding on your part.

E3: Nevine Coutry - On divorce, single motherhood and creating a dating app for single parents

Tuesday Talks: Nevine says: 'The idea of online dating has always been quite daunting for me. Maybe it is because of the fear of rejection, of not being “attractive enough” for someone and being made to feel like that, simply by a swipe of a finger. Or, maybe it’s the fear of a date going really wrong. But what makes it increasingly daunting is the fact that I am a single parent. Here’s what goes through my head when I nervously agree to meet someone: “Will they freak out when they find out I have kids? Are they just looking for fun and to try to get me in bed? Will they not ‘get it’ when I can’t be spontaneous and pack up for a day trip to the country unannounced?”Half the time, I just avoid it all together, and hope that I will one day have that magical chance encounter with my future life partner; the magical “meet cute”. After all, It does happen and it can happen – but seemingly, only for a very lucky few.'S0urce: https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/single-parent-dating-advice-b2040305.html
