What are you looking for?
Tomorrow I become a woman, wow, what a book.The author was incredibly honest. I cried so hard while reading this book, for women and all the battles they fight alone, for women who come from homes were they aren’t supported and protected, for women who suffer in the most abusive marriages, for women in Nigeria and the crazy expectations society places on you, even in 2025.Jesus asked the two disciples of John who followed him, what it was they were looking for. And that is His question to all of us today.What are you looking for?This is a question that requires deep reflection and honesty.Are you really looking for Jesus for who He is? The desert and trust.
Many, if not all seasons of life, call and invite us to deep trust of the One whom we call Lord and Saviour. We are called to trust more in His strength than ours. We are called to trust more in His intelligence than ours. We are called to trust more in His wisdom than ours. We are called to trust more in His provision than the wealth we supposedly have. We are called to trust more in His knowledge of the future than our own plans. We are called to trust God deeply.We are not on earth to stay; we are pilgrims, pilgrims of hope. And pilgrims are people on a journey. Pilgrims are people who need to trust deeply and fully because they do not know what tomorrow will bring. So may God help us to trust in Him and Him alone. He is the only One who satisfies.Wherever this letter may find you, I want to remind you of God’s love for you and His compassion towards you. He is not unaware of your struggles or your battles. I’m competing in the greater Olympics
The Olympic Games are the biggest sporting competition in the world. Just as an actor strives to excel in his craft so as to win an Oscar, an award considered the greatest when it comes to film, so an athlete strives to excel in his sport so he can one day compete in the Olympic Games alongside outstanding athletes from other nations.And they do this for a medal, a crown that will not matter in eternity but as Christians, our crown will matter in eternity. Eternal life with Christ, our crown and price, will be worth it. At the end of our lives, may we win in the greater Olympics. Are you fully convinced?
Obstacles will come. The only thing that will keep you going in the face of these obstacles is your conviction that what you have to offer is good and something of value. We praised God, we spoke about fear, we played some games. It went so much better than I expected and people actually showing up for me made my heart so warm. I chose the topic ‘fear’ because no matter how old we are, when God tells us to do something new, fear is something that threatens to hold us back. Ken iti Na is 3!
3 years! I can’t believe it. Where has the time gone? I’m so grateful to God. I went back to read the first few posts I made when I started writing and I saw so much growth compared to where I am today. And for that, I just say thank You Jesus. I’m not sure if when I started writing I even wanted it to be for life. I wanted to obey God in the moment and I can’t say that I saw the future then. But God never calls us to know all that will happen. He calls us to believe in Him and trust in Him for the now and He supplies grace for every step thereafter.Thanks for reading/listening to Ken iti Na! Watch where you lean.
It is so easy to get overwhelmed by what our eyes see. When you look at the economy, there are countless things to complain about. When I think about a lot of things around me, I find so many reasons to sigh and complain and say, “God Abeg”(God please). And as I sigh, a little voice in my head tells me that I am better off than a lot of people because of God’s grace. Even the fact that I don’t need an oxygen machine to breathe is a gift, so how can I use this good health I’ve been given to complain about things I have no control over and things that could be worse?It’s not easy to be live in these times and not ask a lot of questions on where we’re headed. It’s not easy to be an adult and it definitely is not easy to live your life trusting in God with all your heart and not leaning on your own understanding of things. But that it is how we are called to live. Proverbs 3:5-Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. TRUST. Trust in the Lord. Not trust in man. Not trust in your family. Not trust in your leaders. Not trust in your partner/spouse. But trust in the Lord and do so with all of your heart. Not part of your heart and then your spouse/ partner/ parents with the rest of your heart. I think that many times we divide our trust. We put some trust in God, some in the money we have saved up, some with our partners. You divide your trust so that if perhaps one fails, you wouldn’t have put all your eggs in one basket. God wants all of our trust and I can imagine that this is because whatever He does can only be for our own good. Everything will fail except God. He is the only One who is the Ancient of Days. He is the only One who has been the same God since the beginning. He is the only One who is faithful a 100 percent of the time. LEAN. To lean means to rely. Lean not on your own understanding. Do not rely or depend on what you think you know about x or x issue. Our understanding is so limited and so is our perspective. Relying on our own understanding of things is a recipe for disaster. When we only see the present moment, how can we know if this pain is for greater things to come? How can we know if our prayer wasn’t answered this year because next year, it will be answered in an even greater fashion than we could have dreamt of? In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. Not some of your ways. ALL. There is no aspect of your life that God doesn’t care about. The Holy Spirit is your most intimate friend. Nothing is off-limits. In the big and in the small things, involve God and do not exclude Him. It is only in acknowledging Him that He can make our paths straight. It is only in acknowledging Him that we can know the right way to take at all times. It is only in acknowledging Him that you can know when to move or when to stay put. It is only in acknowledging Him that you will find your way in this maze called life. All this doesn’t mean that trusting in God is a walk in the park. Each day, you will have to steer your heart gently back to God when you see that your trust is shifting. And survived!You’ve taken risks and you’ve been bold.You’ve dared to dream and even better, execute.You’ve asked the difficult questions that have brought growth.You’ve persevered in times of trial.You’ve loved.You’ve kept on striving when you really just wanted to quit.You’ve taken great leaps of faith.You’ve stayed.You’ve remained.You’ve fought in the battles God told you to fight.You’ve been obedient.You’ve been really kind.You’ve recognized your shortcomings and where you need to do better.Rest in God’s Welldone.For any one of these or all of these lines, I say Welldone and so does the Father.Take whichever line you need for this week. God was faithful to me, again.
NEW!Going forward, each newsletter will be recorded so you can listen if you would prefer that to reading. Nervous but excited about my voice being heard this way.🥹🥹 I recently went through a tasking exam season. Thing is, God had already given me a word concerning the exam, and He had assured me last year, of good success. Getting a word about something that hasn't happened yet is very different from experiencing said thing however. The year arrived with a lot of experiences. Good experiences and answered prayers, as if God knew I would need to look back in the thick of things on a time when His faithfulness was undeniable. 2 Corinthians 5:7 AMP- For we walk by faith, not by sight [living our lives in a manner consistent with our confident belief in God’s promises] became my verse and Walk by faith by Victoria Orenze, a song I can sing in my sleep now, was on repeat. I had faith. But yet I felt a bit unsure. I'll explain. You see, God had given me a word for the season, and when the season came, I held on to those words for dear life. But I felt at times like I was being too confident. I now realize that this was some kind of doubt and all an agenda by the evil one to make me question the word God had given me. I was unafraid but felt like I should leave some room for fear. I don't even know if that makes sense. Because I was being called to radical faith however, I needed to keep my eyes fixed on what the Lord had said, I needed to continually fill my mind with words that reminded me of His promise to me. And this is where I'll speak a bit about songs that nourish the soul. Music is not just music. There's a reason why when you listen to a song over and over, it plays in your mind even as you sleep. When I was writing my first medical professional exam, the Holy Spirit directed me to create a playlist that was filled with songs of thanksgiving. Thanskgiving for what had not even come to pass yet. This playlist has since lifted me out of many seasons of despair. And the fact that it is so difficult to play in the bleak times goes to show how the devil hates thanksgiving. Back to the recent, as the days came, and what my eyes saw contradicted what God had said, when my eyes saw things going left when God had assured me months before that they would go right, my playlists reminded me of God’s omnipotence, majesty, His inherent ability to work all things for my good and His faithfulness. Whenever I saw something that would provoke doubt, I would run to my Bible verses and to my playlists to be reminded of truth. I inserted my name into all scripture with a promise of restoration, good news, faithfulness.Towards, the end, I confess, I began to ask myself if I had been a bit rash. Like yes, God promised me this, but I hope I've not taken walking by faith to another level. Plus it turns out that I had been hoping to run by faith not walk. Walking means you take a step and look at God asking what's next. A step at a time. (credit: Sarah Jakes Roberts in the sermon: An uphill battle- this really resonated with me when I listened to it. I recommend.) Anyway, it turned out that there was no need for doubt(there never is need for doubt), God was faithful to His word, I passed my exams.Something that crossed my mind more than once in that season was if I would still thank God if maybe I didn't pass the exams? VERY DIFFICULT QUESTION. But I think very necessary. If I hadn't passed, would I still be here writing this newsletter? Would I had said my prayers the day after I saw the results? Admittedly, it is way easier to write this now that I'm standing on the side of success but it is still worth reflecting on regardless. How do we treat ourselves and our relationship with God in the tough times? In those times of not getting what we had prayed for, because I dare not call those times, failing times. I believe failing would be not trusting in God in the first place and not putting our hope in Him from the get go. In those times, we feel like maybe we should prayed more, maybe we should have started praying earlier, maybe God doesn't actually care about us, as much as those around us because they on the other hand, were successful. I am not going to tell you what to do in those times, because I don't have the answer to that. What I will say however, is something Pope Francis said in a video I had watched years ago: “Whenever people ask me why God allows suffering, I tell them to look at the cross, and to see God’s own son on the cross. God allowed His own son to be crucified by the very humans He created.” Doesn't make sense does it? I don't think much of our suffering will make sense on this side of the divide. Time may reveal more about our suffering seasons but ultimately, only the Father will be able to answer many of our ‘why’ questions. If the cards you’ve been dealt with at this time are more towards the “God said He would be faithful to me, but He wasn't in the manner I expected Him to be”, I think the only thing I would say is: Remain. (this Newsletter published at the start of April would be a great read). Remain in God regardless. Remain in Him and ask Him all the questions. You know when you watch the movies where the girl is angry and hits the chest of the guy in her hurt but remains in those arms regardless, I think that's how we should be in those less ideal seasons. Remain in God’s arms, asking Him all the questions and hitting His chest because I actually think that He can take it plus, He would rather us be there than away from Him. We have a great calling as believers. To stand in God and remain even when the sun isn't shining. This is a call that will be uncomfortable and against the desire of our flesh but it is our call. That is why the Bible which was written eons ago is filled with verses that speak of waiting on God when the answers don't come when we desire them and the need to keep trusting in God. No matter what life throws at us, God remains with us. I’m rooting for you.🤍Thank you for reading Ken iti Na.
