The Stoicism Workbook Chapter 2: The Paradox of Control

Welcome back to The Queer Stoic Podcast and to Episode 7 and Chapter 2 of The Stoicism Workbook! This week we will be focusing on Control and the lack of it that we actually have in our lives as opposed to how much we think we have. As a fellow control freak, this has been a difficult concept for me to grasp and to learn to let go of the illusion of control that I have over certain events or influence in general over those events. In the end control is just another way to worry, and worry is a slippery slope to fall down. I want you to keep this phrase in mind as you listen, Amor Fati. I will explain this in depth later, the basic translation is Love your fate.Book LinksThe Stoicism Workbook by Scott Waltman, R. The Stoicism Workbook Chapter 1: Emotional Resilience and Stoicism

Welcome back to The Queer Stoic, this past week I discovered a new book called The Stoicism Workbook, as a Practicing but still new-ish Stoic myself. I think this book would be a good opportunity for all of us to start with the basics. I will be summarizing the chapters and culminating the lessons into some exercises and of course a journal prompt for the week.LinksThe Stoicism Workbook by Scott Waltman, R. Justice for All, and for All a Good Life

DescriptionWelcome to episode 5! This is our last episode on the individual virtues as they stand on their own. This week we explore Justice. Justice is an ideal which instills a sense of overall kindness, fairness, and sense of responsibility towards the community around you and even, in some situations, humanity as a whole.Show Notes:Thank you to the The Stoic Fellowship for their continued support and acceptance of my queer ass and giving me the community and guidance I needed to continue my journey as a Practicing Stoic. Please donate if you have the ability so I can keep making content and feed my slightly concerning caffeine addictionDonate Here!Shop Merch!Journal Prompt for the Week:Justice is about forgiveness as much as it is caring about humanity. Meditate on the things which you are holding on to as grudges, personal slights, insults. Jot down names if you wish or don't, but focus on forgiveness of these actions and let them go as best you can. Journalize how it makes you feel to let go, even if you only let go of one thing.Contact PointsEmail: [email protected]: @thequeerstoicInstagram: @the_queer_stoicWebsite: kindredstudios.me

    Courage Among the Helpless

Welcome to Episode 4, Courage is the word of the week. Not only courage for ourselves but others as well. As the title suggests we should foster courage among the helpless around us as well as within ourselves to rise up and be who we are.Book LinksMeditations by Marcus AureliusDiscourses and Selected Writings by EpictetusThe Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday and Stephen HanselmannShow Notes:CREDITSMusic and Effects courtesy of Envato PremiumMusicHappy Energetic Indie Rock by RedWineProductionsEpic by HeartDrumMachineHere We Go Rock by ColorFilmMusicOn The Way by SilenceArtEffectsStatic Transmission by Sound-IdeasRiser by GameChestAudioEquipmentFifine MicrophoneFifine SC3 Gaming Sound BoardSoftwareRecording: AudacityEditing: Adobe AuditionThank you to the The Stoic Fellowship for their continued support and acceptance of my queer ass and giving me the community and guidance I needed to continue my journey as a Practicing Stoic. Please donate if you have the ability so I can keep making content and feed my slightly concerning caffeine addictionDonate Here!Journal Prompt for the Week:Contact PointsEmail: [email protected]: @thequeerstoicInstagram: @the_queer_stoicWebsite: kindredstudios.me

    Temperance Among Consumption

A dive into the second virtue of Stoicism, Temperance, or more accurately, Moderation in the context of Stoicism. Maintaining control and moderating not only our internal feelings and reactions, but our consumption. Be it Social Media, food, drink, and the like. In a modern world that is so focused on consumption how do we maintain this Moderation?Show Notes:Grounding exercise:Name 5 things you can seeName 4 things you can hearName 3 things you can touchName 2 things you can smellName 1 thing you can tasteJournal Prompt for the Week:Take a few minutes to reflect on your previous self. Wisdom in the Face of Ignorance

This week’s episode is about implementing the virtue of Wisdom in Stoicism to everyday life when dealing with ignorant people and their bigotry against the LGBTQ+ community. We in the Queer community encounter bigotry on a daily basis, both politically and socioeconomically. There are laws being passed that wish to erase us or put us in such a state of fear for our safety that some have fled to other, more accepting countries, or are planning and preparing to do so. Honestly I don’t blame them, I won’t say it is better to flee or stay, that’s not my decision to make for other people. To protect your own peace and physical safety, if you must leave I wish you the best of luck. For those of us that cannot leave for whatever reason, coping the best we can may be the only way to get through this, together. That’s what we’re going to get into this week, on with the show!CREDITSMusic and Effects: Envato PremiumMusicHappy Energetic Indie Rock by RedWineProductionsEnergetic Dynamic Drive by WormsTeamHappy Fun Optimistic by LuLu_ProductionHappy Upbeat Rock by SonorousSoundEffectsStatic Transmission by Sound-IdeasRiser by GameChestAudioEquipmentFifine MicrophoneFifine SC3 Gaming Sound BoardSoftwareRecording: AudacityEditing: Adobe AuditionThank you to the The Stoic Fellowship for their continued support and acceptance of my queer ass and giving me the community and guidance I needed to continue my journey as a Practicing Stoic. Please donate if you have the ability so I can keep making content and feed my slightly concerning caffeine addictionDonate Here!Journal Prompt for the Week:Implement the ideal of Stoic Wisdom into your days this week and write down how it affected your decision making. Stoicism, Queerness, and Parenting

An introduction to Stoicism and how my journey towards gender transition and Stoicism collided, how Stoicism has inspired and guided me in my transition as well as parenting a son as a semi-closeted Transgender Man. Come with me as we explore the ins and outs of Stoic parenting, yes that is a capital 'S', don't worry I will get into that.Stoicism and queerness go hand in hand in my opinion, the lessons it offers, though derived from a predominantly male society over 2000 years ago, still offers a semblance of peace and openness we really need right now. Especially with the current administration in the United States causing hardships among the demographics that are in need of help now more than ever. One of the key points of Stoicism is Common Humanity, the idea that all human beings are connected and equal regardless of creed, tribe, or anything else. We all have the capacity of reason and so we should work together, not be at odds.Classic Book Recommendations:Meditations by Marcus Aurelius (adapted by James Harris)Discourses and Selected Writings of Epictetus (Penguin Classics)The Enchiridion by Epictetus (adapted by James Harris)Letters From a Stoic by Seneca (adapted by Richard Gummere)Modern Book Recommendations:A Handbook for New Stoics by Massimo Pigliucci and Gregory LopezBreakfast with Seneca by David FidelerBear and Forbear: Zen in “The Art of Living” by Lucien SammsCREDITSMusic and Effects courtesy of Envato PremiumMusicHappy Energetic Indie Rock by RedWineProductionsSunny Uplifting Vlog Hip Hop by RedWineProductionsSunny Energetic Hip Hop by RedWineProductionsEffectsStatic Transmission by Sound-IdeasRiser by GameChestAudioEquipmentFifine MicrophoneFifine SC3 Gaming Sound BoardSoftwareRecording & Editing: AudacityAudio Monitoring: VoiceMeeter Potato x64Thank you to the The Stoic Fellowship for their continued support and acceptance of my queer ass and giving me the community and guidance I needed to continue my journey as a Practicing Stoic. Please donate if you have the ability so I can keep making content and feed my slightly concerning caffeine addictionDonate Here!Journal Prompt for the Week:As it applies to your current state in life, are you satisfied with your journey thus far?
