    #8: 2023 #GOALS Podcast - Talking the Talk & Walking the Walk

I know the subject of goal-setting can be divisive or even triggering for some but it’s my belief that that comes down to your perspective on goals. Goal setting is often over-romanticized, probably because of the accompanying dopamine it can create, when in reality goal setting is really just making one big to-do list. So, here’s my breakdown of what I do every year when it’s time to make that list, I discuss: * How my perspective on goal-setting changed from formless to directed. * Why it’s not enough to just visualize success. * An idea for making goal check-ins fun.* Picking out a “WOY: Word of the Year” with examples. * Picking out a “POY: Person of the Year” with examples. * Why creating steps to reaching your goals are so important. #6: Becoming Someone's Yoda - Lessons on Leadership with Dr. L

There’s a lot of talk about leadership these days: you can sign up for a weekend retreat that tells you all the secrets or pick out a docuseries on Netflix that inspires you to become a leader. But what does that *really* mean? Today I’m talking with Dr. Chris Leupold on this subject of leadership and resilience. Dr. L’s experience is in organizational psychology - teaching others about effective leadership strategies is quite literally his bread-and-butter. I hope you enjoy today’s discussion with a great mentor of mine!“You don’t have to be the loudest person in the room to be a leader.”Connect with Dr. L and I here: Dr. L’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chris-leupold-20a0b85/KimberMarie’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kimbermarie/Check out the book Dr. L recommends at the end of the pod, My Life in Leadership: The Journey and Lessons Learned Along the Way by Frances Hesselbein: https://www.amazon.com/My-Life-Leadership-Institute-Foundation-ebook/dp/B004IK9TZA?ref_=ast_author_dp This is a public episode. #5: More Student Loan Talk, Choosing Schools, & Facing Elitism w/ Sara Lorenzen, M.Ed., CFEI - Pt. II

During this last part of my conversation with Sara on student loans, we dive into the more personal aspect of student loans: should I even use them? What school should I go to? How should I approach paying them off? Keep in mind that Sara and I, both, are speaking from our own anecdotal experiences for many of these subjects. Where Sara explains a financial term or how something generally works regarding student loans, please remember: Sara is a Financial Educator - not a coach nor an advisor. Neither am I. Please seek out professional advice from those who are licensed to do so, if you need it, or consider researching further to decide what your next best step is.PLEASE NOTE: EVERYTHING IN THIS EPISODE IS MEANT TO BE EDUCATIONAL. NOTHING SHOULD BE CONSTRUED AS PERSONAL, FINANCIAL ADVISE.If you’re interested in connecting with either me or Sara, please follow the links below:Sara’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/saramlorenzen/The Sailor’s Daughter LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kimbermarie/You can also follow me on IG: @kimbermariejames This is a public episode. #4: Student Loan Primer with Sara Lorenzen, M.Ed., CFEI - Pt. 1

This episode is the first part of a two-part interview with Sara focusing on student loans in an effort to help listeners build financial resiliency. This first episode attempts to break down the jargon surrounding Student Loans. What is a GraduatePLUS loan versus Direct? What’s the difference between refinancing and consolidating? How can I figure out if student loans are the right decision for me? This episode has all of the above and more to help you begin your financial literacy journey. Most people today are dealing with student loan debt and it can be a big obstacle for many in their personal and professional lives. Personally having my own student loan debt led me to make this interview happen so future students can become more financially resilient at an earlier stage than I did.PLEASE NOTE: EVERYTHING IN THIS EPISODE IS MEANT TO BE EDUCATIONAL.
