You are not who you think you are.

Who are you, really? When you look in the mirror, you see skin, eyes, hair, shoulders… but is that actually ’you’?In this episode, The Stress Less Guru dives deep into the question of identity, exploring why we are not our physical bodies, but rather spiritual beings inhabiting a biological “mech suit” built to last roughly 80 years. We break down the science (your body is made up of 28-36 trillion cells, each one a living organism that will eventually die and be replaced without you ever noticing), the psychology (how we use clothing, grooming, and visual cues to project personas that may have nothing to do with who we actually are), and the philosophy (if disease can attack the mind but the soul still finds moments of lucidity, then who is really in control?).Along the way, we explore “beautiful monsters”, people whose exterior beauty masks an ugly soul, and the reverse: unassuming people with the most radiant spirits you’ll ever encounter. We talk about why eulogies never focus on what someone looked like, why a disembodied voice across a room can feel more familiar than a face, and why the billions we spend decorating our shell might be better invested looking inward. This one gets personal, gets philosophical, and might just change how you see the next person you meet.Stress less. Live more.

    70/30: Psychology, Control, Manipulation

Ever wonder why most people seem to go along with the crowd while others naturally resist? In this episode, we dive deep into the psychology behind the 70/30 split, a fascinating pattern showing that roughly 70% of people tend to comply with social pressure, authority, or persuasive messaging, while 30% push back.We explore:Classic psychology experiments (Solomon Asch’s conformity studies and Stanley Milgram’s obedience research)How corporations, religions, and political organizations use this knowledge to influence behaviorMarketing tactics like social proof, scarcity, FOMO, and celebrity endorsementsWhy being in the 70% isn’t always bad, and when you might need to be in the 30%The bystander effect and what it means for personal safetyHow awareness of these patterns helps you take back controlThis isn’t about deep breathing or meditation, this is about education and seeing the bigger picture. When you understand the psychology being used on you, you can make truly informed decisions about when to go with the flow and when to stand firm.Hosted by The Stress Less Guru

The “Be Yourself” Trap: Why This Advice Fails (And What to Do Instead)

We’ve all heard it: “Just be yourself.” But what does that even mean when you’re a different person at work, at home, with friends, or alone at 2 AM? Drawing from psychology and decades of personal transformation, the Stress Less Guru explores why we have multiple “selves,” how to recognize which version you’re presenting in any situation, and why intentionally choosing who you become is far more powerful than passively “being yourself.” Featuring stories about dating disasters, workplace personas, and that time he got stuck on a Cedar Point ride with panicking kids. Perfect for your commute, this episode will change how you think about authenticity.Topics: Social psychology, authentic self, intentional living, stress reduction, personal growth, William James, code-switching

Stoic Wheels: Mastering Traffic with Ancient Wisdom

You’ll learn the four core principles that make traffic a non-issue: the Dichotomy of Control (what’s actually up to you), Amor Fati (loving your fate—even the construction zones), Virtue Over Reaction (why responding to that middle finger with peace keeps you winning), and Mindfulness in Motion (staying present instead of spiraling into “what ifs”).With over 200 road rage fatalities yearly in the US and millions experiencing commute-related stress, this isn’t just philosophy—it’s a practical survival guide. What you’ll take away: ∙ A simple reframe that instantly defuses traffic frustration ∙ The “pause button” technique for reactive moments ∙ How to prep your car as a Stoic sanctuary ∙ A post-commute journaling practice for continuous growthThe traffic isn’t the problem. The Ant’s Heat Drill: A Lesson in Stress Management

What can observing ant colonies teach us about managing stress? In this episode, The Stress Less Guru shares childhood memories of watching insects and how those simple observations revealed profound truths about knowing when to step away from stress. When temperatures rise too high, ants don’t push through—they evacuate their colony with the young until things cool down. As humans facing mounting stress at work, home, or in relationships, we rarely give ourselves the same permission to step back. This episode explores why taking a “heat drill” moment might be exactly what you need.Learn to recognize your stress signals, practice mindful observation of the small wonders around you, and discover why you don’t always need to have the last word. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is walk away, breathe, and return when the temperature has dropped.Topics covered: Stress management, mindfulness practice, recognizing burnout signs, anxiety relief, living in the moment, nature observation as meditation, mental health awareness

Reframing Your Inner Critic: Why Your Mind Tries to Help (Even When It Hurts)

That voice telling you your work isn’t good enough? It’s not your enemy—it’s an overprotective friend with bad boundaries. In this episode, we explore why anxiety acts like a smoke alarm that can’t tell the difference between a five-alarm fire and a little grease on the burner. You’ll learn how your brain prioritizes survival over peace, why memories aren’t as reliable as we think, and how to bring compassion to both yourself and others when perspectives clash.Plus: a practical 4-4-6 breathing technique to reset your nervous system when anxiety spirals.Key Topics: Understanding your inner critic’s protective (but misguided) intentions The science of memory and why “truth” isn’t always “fact” How anxiety loops and “what if” thinking steal your peace Why self-compassion is as important as compassion for others Practical breathwork for nervous system regulationWhether you’re stressing over presentations, creative projects, or just trying to remember where you put your phone, this episode offers insight into what’s really happening in your mind—and how to work with it instead of against it.Take what resonates. Leave what doesn’t. Stress less, breathe more.

Fear: A Face in a Cup

The thing we fear is not always what we perceive it to be. Sometimes the things we fear most are merely a reflection of ourselves. In this episode will dive into my real world fear of the face (my own reflection, misunderstood as a child) at the bottom of a cup, and how as an adult, we can see the parallels between the fears we have as adults and the fears we have his children, and how often those fears are just our projections. I will be talking about how we can set ourselves free of the moments of our past that haunt us, and how living in the future steals our peace in the present.
