The Unexpected Story

Growing up, my Mom’s favorite verse was Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord….”. She’d quote this verse saying life was like a puzzle and God would reveal the different puzzle pieces in time to create a beautiful picture/story. We know we can’t see the full picture with one or two pieces, but we also don’t always get to chose the picture on our puzzle. As I began to think about the “pieces” of my story, most of them aren’t anything like I expected. Some pieces are harder, some pieces are sweeter, and some are completely different than I would have chosen. The longer I’ve lived and the more opportunities I’ve had to peer into other’s stories, I think it’s fair to say life consistently deals “pieces” for all of us that we didn’t expect nor would have chosen for our story. Maybe it’s a diagnosis, a dream, a calling, a loss, maybe the dream job didn’t satisfy like you imagined, or maybe the mundane day to day isn’t what you expected either. But I’ve com
