Living Out Your Family Vision and Values: Goals and Habits for a Purposeful Life

In this episode of There Will Be Joy, we bring everything we've discussed in the past few episodes together by focusing on how to integrate your family's vision and values into your daily life through intentional goals and habits. We've spent time crafting a vision for our families and defining the values that guide us—now it's time to make these principles a living part of our everyday routines. I'll start by exploring the importance of aligning your daily life with your family's vision and values. It's easy to write down what matters to you, but how do you ensure those words translate into action? This is where goals and habits come into play. They serve as the bridge between your dreams and reality, helping to make your vision a part of your daily life. Consistency can be a challenge, especially with the busyness of life, so we discuss the need for specific, measurable goals and habits that reflect your family's values. We also draw on biblical wisdom, specifically James 1:22, to remind us that it's not enough to just know our values—we need to act on them. In the second segment, we dive into the goal-setting process, using the SMART goal framework (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) to ensure your goals are clear and achievable. I also break down how to set goals in various areas of your life—spiritual, relational, financial, and more—to ensure that every aspect of your life reflects your family's vision. The third segment focuses on creating habits that support your goals and values. Habits are the vehicle that gets you to your goals, and we offer practical tips on building and maintaining habits, including the concept of habit stacking, where you pair a new habit with an existing one to make it easier to remember and stick to. Finally, we discuss the importance of reflecting on your goals and habits regularly, adjusting them as needed to stay aligned with your family's vision. The goal is not to add more stress to your life, but to bring more joy and intention into your home, creating a family culture that reflects who you are and what you stand for. Show Notes: Resources Mentioned: Free SMART goal worksheet and habit tracker (available on Patreon). Monthly reflection sheet to help adjust goals and habits as needed. 8 Faith-Filled Ways to Celebrate Fall Without Halloween

In this episode, we’re exploring how to fully enjoy fall without focusing on Halloween. For many Christian families, balancing festive activities with faith can be challenging. I’m sharing creative ways to embrace the beauty of fall, celebrate joyfully, and create lasting, faith-centered memories. Here are a few... listen in for all the inspo and ideas! Finding Joy in Fall:The Bible mentions harvest over 80 times. Whether you’re enjoying fall hikes, leaf collecting, or simply admiring nature, it’s the perfect season to reflect on God’s creation and goodness. Family Traditions and Feasting:From apple picking to baking, fall offers countless ways to create family traditions. I share some of our favorite activities, like visiting pumpkin patches and making apple treats. Faith-Focused Activities:I introduce “The Pumpkin Parable,” a fun way to carve pumpkins with a Gospel message, plus fall crafts and gratitude trees to incorporate faith into the season. Serving Others:This fall, consider giving back through acts of kindness like delivering baked goods to first responders or helping neighbors with yard work. Simplifying an Overwhelmed Life: Finding Joy in Less

Hey friends! Welcome back to There Will Be Joy. If you're feeling overwhelmed by clutter—whether it's physical or mental—this episode is for you. We're diving into how to simplify your life and make room for what truly matters because joy isn’t found in chaos; it’s in clarity. My Journey to Simplification A few years ago, I lived by the "more is more" mentality—my home was packed, my calendar full, and I even had a farm with 90 animals! But I realized the overwhelm was taking a toll. After losing my husband at 29, I held onto many things, but eventually, I had to let go. I sold my dream house and farm, and while it was hard, the freedom I felt was incredible. Simplifying made room for the better things God had in store, like embracing motherhood with two little ones. Identifying the Sources of Overwhelm Ask yourself: What's causing the most stress? Is it endless to-do lists, a cluttered home, or external expectations? Identifying the source is the first step to simplifying. Biblical Perspective: Ecclesiastes 3:6 reminds us there’s "a time to keep and a time to throw away." God calls us to live freely, unburdened by clutter or commitments that no longer serve us. Declutter Your Space, Declutter Your Mind Your physical environment affects your mental state. Start small—clear one drawer or shelf. I’ve created a free decluttering checklist available in our Patreon community to help you start your journey. Practical Tips for Decluttering: Set a timer for 15 minutes a day. Try the “one in, one out” rule for new items. Simplify Your Schedule and Commitments It’s okay to say "no" to things that don’t align with your values. Overcommitment leads to burnout. Create daily rhythms that prioritize rest and connection over busyness, like family game nights or quiet mornings. Biblical Perspective: Matthew 11:28 reminds us, "Come to me, all you who are weary, and I will give you rest." Simplifying creates space for the rest God promises. Digital Detox and Mental Space Digital clutter can be just as overwhelming. Audit your digital life—unfollow accounts that don’t bring joy and set screen time limits. Try a digital detox this week and be fully present. Share your experience in our free Patreon community! Embrace the Beauty of Less There’s beauty in slowing down and embracing simplicity. It’s in these moments that we often find the most joy—whether it’s a walk in nature or a quiet evening with loved ones. Simplifying isn’t about having less; it’s about making room for what truly matters. Biblical Perspective: Psalm 46:10 says, "Be still, and know that I am God." Simplifying allows us to experience God's peace and presence. The  Joyful Life Community is a wonderful space where you can connect with others who are also seeking to simplify their lives and find joy in less. Share your decluttering progress with us, ask for advice, and encourage each other along the way, plus grab all the free resources i mention in the show! Defining Family Values that Last

If you've been feeling lost and want to start living with more intention and joy, this episode is for you. Today, we're exploring how to define a family value system that brings clarity and purpose to your life. It starts with a vision, as we discussed in Episode 2, so if you haven't listened yet, I encourage you to dive in there first. Lately, I've felt a shift in our family’s direction—like the way we were living wasn’t working anymore. After realizing we lacked clear family values, I knew we needed a foundation to guide our decisions with peace instead of worry. Inspired by a fellow podcaster, I reflected on what we truly wanted as a family and began creating a list of core values that would serve as our roadmap. This process is rooted in Habakkuk 2:2, where we’re encouraged to write down the vision and make it clear. Defining your family’s values ensures that, even when life gets chaotic, you’ll stay aligned with your purpose. It's about making decisions that reflect what truly matters to you and your family. In this episode, I share how I chose 10 key words to define our family and how each one guides us daily. It's an ongoing journey, but by filtering decisions through these values, we can live intentionally and with joy, no matter the season. If you're unsure of your family’s direction, I encourage you to take time to reflect and start defining your own family values. Share your vision with us in the Joyful Life Community—I’d love to hear it! Remember, joy is a choice and a promise, and it starts with living intentionally. Until next time, keep finding joy in every season! Crafting Your Family Vision with Purpose and Joy

Welcome to the official first episode of "There Will Be Joy!" Today, we're diving into the heart of living with intention and purpose—crafting a family vision. If you’ve ever felt like your family is drifting or if you’re yearning for more direction, this episode is for you. I’ll never forget on my second date with Adam—kayaking on Lake Jocassee, dreaming about our future family adventures. From envisioning cross-country RV trips to exploring the great outdoors, those conversations shaped our hopes and dreams. Even though we’re not quite there yet, those early dreams guide us and keep us aligned with our long-term goals. Why a Family Vision Matters: The Power of a Shared Vision: A family vision isn’t just an idea; it’s something you build together. It gives you a shared purpose and helps you stay grounded through life’s ups and downs. Think of it as your family’s roadmap, guiding you through choices and keeping you united. Building a Family Legacy: Crafting a family vision isn’t just about today—it’s about setting the stage for your family’s future. It helps your kids learn what matters and carry those values with them, creating a legacy lived out every day. From the Ground Up: Start with Core Values: What are your family’s core values? These are the principles that shape your interactions and decisions. Think of them as the atmosphere you create at home. Daydream About the Future: Take time to imagine where you want your family to be in 5, 10, or even 20 years. What does that future look and feel like? Action Steps: Ask the Big Questions: Grab a journal and reflect on questions like: What kind of family do we want to be? Where do we see ourselves physically, financially, and emotionally? What adventures and hobbies do we want to share? Crafting Your Family Vision Statement: Gather your family for a brainstorming session. Share dreams, hopes, and values. Combine these into a simple, clear statement that reflects your shared goals. Putting Your Vision into Practice: Put It Front and Center: Display your vision statement where everyone can see it. Make it a regular part of family conversations. Weave It into Your Day: Incorporate your vision into daily routines, like tech-free dinners or family game nights. Set Real Goals Together: Break your vision into achievable goals. Plan family adventures or weekly activities that align with your vision. Check In Regularly: Have family discussions to celebrate progress and adjust as needed. Keep your vision fresh and evolving. Creating a family vision is a powerful way to build a joyful and purposeful life together. Take time this week to dream big and start crafting your vision. I’d love to hear what you come up with—share your vision statement with us in the Joyful Life Community! When you join our community, we are gifting you with your very own downloadable version of The Joyful Life Goal Planner for FREE!  Thanks for tuning in today!
