They sold everything & just went. Simply a shared dream, a vehicle, & the open road.
This week’s podcast conversation is one that really stayed with me.I spoke with Rob and Ange — a couple who, about three years ago, did something many of us dream about… they sold everything and hit the road.No perfect timing. No perfect plan.Just a shared belief that life was meant to be lived now, not later.Since then, they’ve travelled all over Australia, worked along the way, met incredible people, and created a life that feels both simple and deeply fulfilling. What I loved most about our conversation was their honesty. They spoke about the fear at the beginning.Discovering the joy of slowing down & the realisation that you don’t need as much as you think to live a rich and meaningful life.Their advice?Don’t wait. You’ll never have the perfect amount of money or the perfect moment.Just go.If you’ve ever found yourself saying “one day”… this episode might just give you the nudge you need.Listen in now & travel with us a while.BronLink to see photos of their setup - Ange's amazing videos on cooking whilst on the road plus much more can be found here:

In this episode, Tim shares how being last taught him how to lead…
This week’s podcast episode is one that stayed with me long after we finished recording.I had the pleasure of chatting with Tim Dobson — a hiker, climber and caver from the UK — & what unfolded was not just a conversation about adventure… but about people.About being the slowest on the mountain…About making mistakes (some quite big ones!)& about how those experiences shape the way we show up for others. One line in particular has stayed with me:“People don’t remember your map reading… they remember how you made them feel.”Isn’t that the truth? There’s humour in this episode, honesty, & some very real lessons — the kind we often only learn the hard way.I think you’ll enjoy this one.Pop the kettle on, get comfortable & travel with us a while.Check out the blog with links to the podcast, his mother's award winning reel and more. https://bronhogan.com/tim-dobson-not-the-slowest-walker-on-the-mountain-anymore/

The Day Everything Changed… and the Life That Followed
Some stories change the way you see the world. In this episode of Travel With Us a While, I sit down with Rick Scammell — a man whose life changed in an instant during a dirt bike accident on a remote beach in North Queensland. What followed could have been the end of everything he loved.Instead… it became the beginning of something else.Rick shares his journey from that life-altering moment in 2019 through to where he is today — living as a T4 paraplegic, raising a young family, and continuing to embrace adventure in ways that are as inspiring as they are real. This is not just a story about survival. It’s about resilience.Adaptation.And the quiet determination to keep going — even when life looks nothing like it once did. From bush tracks to water skiing, Rick proves that life doesn’t stop.It simply finds a new way forward. If you’ve ever wondered how someone rebuilds their life after everything changes… this conversation is for you.Check out the blog I wrote using his story and images https://bronhogan.com/rick-scammell-the-day-everything-changed-the-life-that-followed/

Finding Tasmania’s Hidden Magic with Jeni Freeman's camera
Today’s episode is all about seeing the world a little differently… through the lens of a camera. My guest is Jeni Freeman, a passionate Tasmanian photographer whose work captures everything from birdlife and wild coastlines to stunning night skies and hidden stays across the state. What I loved about this conversation is how it all began — not with a grand plan, but with a simple moment, a borrowed camera, and a willingness to explore. So if you’ve ever wondered what you might discover by slowing down, taking a different road, or simply looking a little closer…you’re going to enjoy this one.Let’s get into it.

Naomi Creek - Flinders Island
Some people travel the world searching for adventure.Others quietly build an adventurous life right where they are.In our latest Travel With Us A While podcast episode, I had the pleasure of chatting with Naomi Creek, who lives on beautiful Flinders Island.Naomi first visited the island in 2015 and felt that familiar tug that many of us experience when we arrive somewhere special. A few years later she packed up her car, brought it across on the boat, bought a small house — and started a new life on the island. Her friends thought she was brave. Some thought she was slightly mad.But Naomi knew it was the right decision. What makes her story even more inspiring is that Naomi has lived with rheumatoid arthritis since she was just twelve years old. Rather than letting it define her life, she has simply adapted the way she explores the world. These days Naomi can often be found:• rescuing and raising orphaned wallaby joeys• snorkelling over colourful reefs around the island• photographing the magical underwater world• collecting washed-up seaweed to create delicate pressed artworksIt’s a life filled with nature, creativity and quiet adventure. In this episode Naomi also shares some thoughtful tips for travelling with a chronic health condition — from researching accessibility to travelling light and planning ahead. It was a warm, thoughtful conversation and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.Listen on - I am sure you will be inspired as much as I was.Bron

Jen Shipston shares when bagpipes come along for the ride
I’m Bron Hogan, and today I’ve got a guest who reminds us that travel isn’t always about ticking off destinations — sometimes it’s about slowing down, finding space, and letting life breathe a little. My guest today is Jen Shipston — a traveller, mum, camper, hiker, snorkeller… and yes, a bagpiper. Jen has played her bagpipes in some of Australia’s most iconic places, including Uluru, often heading off the beaten track to practise while travelling with her kids.In this conversation, we talk about shoestring travel, raising adventurous kids, living simply, playing music in nature, hiking Tasmania’s great tracks, and following a long-held dream to make Tasmania home. It’s a lovely, honest chat about doing life your way — even if it’s not perfect. So grab a cuppa, settle in, and travel with us a while.

Karen's adventures all sparked by curiosity and a willingness to say “why not?”
Sometimes the very best travel stories don’t begin with a carefully planned itinerary…Sometimes they begin in an elevator. In this week’s episode of Travel With Us A While, I’m chatting with the delightful Karen Rule — someone I met quite by chance at a floral show in Melbourne, and whose love of travel is woven through with kindness, curiosity, and a wonderful sense of “why not?”Karen shares stories from her travels through Japan, Thailand and New Zealand, including:✨ Why learning just a few local words can change your whole experience✨ The surprising competition win that helped fund her Japan adventure✨ A Jurassic Park ride that required serious courage (and a stiff drink!)✨ And why the people we meet often become our most treasured travel memoriesIt’s a gentle, heartwarming conversation that reminds us travel doesn’t have to be perfect — it just has to be meaningful.Check out Karen's story and images here https://bronhogan.com/

Bron's guest, Christine Madeley shares travelling solo for the first time after a big life change.
There are some conversations that stay with you long after you switch off the microphone, and my chat with Christine Madeley was one of them. She joined me on Travel with Us a While to talk about something many of us quietly wonder about, but don’t always have the courage to do — travelling solo for the first time after a big life change.Christine found herself single again in her 60s, after years of marriage. Rather than settling into quiet routines or staying within the familiar, she decided to do something bold — book a trip overseas, alone. “It’s a frightening thought,” she admitted with a laugh. “But I just thought — I’m doing it.”And off she went — first to Lisbon, Portugal. There she was, jet-lagged, room not ready, sipping a cocktail while trying to remember why on earth she’d thought this was a good idea. But by the next day, with her walking shoes on and the sun shining across those tiled streets, she began to feel that delicious sense of freedom that comes when you realise — you’re managing just fine on your own.
