V3 Episode 1 - "What is the Rosary?"

What is the necklace all the Catholics seem to carry around?   They don't even wear it! We are leading off this season with prayer and the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary.   There are few prayers outside of the Mass, more powerful than the Rosary.    Given to us by our Blessed Mother herself as a weapon for the spiritual battles we all have to face, the Rosary can be confounding and intimidating for new Catholics.   We are here to help you take up this spiritual sword with strength and confidence. Resources: Pray the Rosary with Ted (a member of our Lay Dominican Group) Pray the Rosary with Bishop Barron (no offense Ted... :) The Rosary is the Answer (a book by Father Burke, a good summary and guide) The Rosary Confraternity (A global, Dominican-led organization that encourages the Daily recitation of the Rosary) The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence Subscribe/Follow/Rate! V3 Episode 15 - "Can I Teach The Faith?"

The Great Commission "Go, make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."  Matthew 28:19-20 One of the harder ministries to recruit for is religious education and sponsors for OCIA.   Perhaps it's because of the committment on a Sunday morning but it might be because we don't think we are capable or need to be in the church longer or have letters behind our names. You don't need credentials to catechise Kindergartners or high schoolers for that matter.   And you certainly know more about being Catholic than most adult catechumens.   You just have to be willing to help and take up the Great Commission that Jesus gives to all of us to build up The Church by teaching the Faith. Your DRE will love you for it! Resources: The Catechism of the Catholic Church Subscribe/Follow/Rate! V3 Episode 13 - "What's with all These Orders?"

Dominicans, Francisans and Jesuits... Oh my! Pope Leo is "Augustinian".   He was the Master of that Order before he was Bishop and eventually our Holy Father.   Is the Pope Catholic?   :)   Yes, of course, he's Augustinian Catholic. Our local bishop is Franciscan.   Wait, I thought Bishops had to be Catholic.... :) Yes, of course, he's a Franciscan Catholic.   The panelists are all Lay Dominicans.   But isn't this a Catholic podcast?   Yes.   We are Dominican Catholics!     We are members of the Dominican Order, what most of us describe as our Dominican family.  It's an 800 year old Order of Preachers. So what do all these different flavors of Catholic represent?   What even is an "Order"?    What purpose do they serve? If you are listening and at all curious, we expect you'd have these questions.    In our Fly Wheel, this falls nicely into the pillar of Community.   Resources: The Catechism of the Catholic Church Yes, you could buy it from Amazon but shouldn't Catholics buy from Catholics?  Help a brother/sister out.... V3 Episode 11 - "How Do I Study the Bible?"

So...  You listened to the episode on which Bible to read and bought the perfect one (or two) for you.   While just reading will be fruitful, why not study the Word as well?    But with so many resources out there, how do you study the Bible as a new Confirmed Catholic?    How does (or should...) a Catholic study the Bible?   Is there a Catholic way to study the Word? We talk about that and introduce the Catechism of the Catholic Church, a resource that every Catholic should have and be able to use for study. Enjoy the episode and thanks for listening! V3 Episode 9 - "How Do I Participate in the Mass?"

Back to prayer, and the highest form of prayer, The Holy Mass. Now that you've settled into your daily or weekly schedule and are attending the Mass at a time that works for you, how do you participate in that Mass with strength and confidence?    With reverence and adoration?   How do you get "in step" with all those around you?     By knowing what you are doing, why you are doing it and how you do it well you will quickly progress for trying to keep up to being still before our Lord in spite of the movement....   You can begin to make the Mass truly your prayer and offering to the Lord with your fellow parishioners as the Body of Christ. V3 Epidode 8 - Clerical Clarification for "How can I help?"

Clerical Clarification on Service.   You may feel very motivated to serve.   To prove that your fervor is real and you are ready to renew the face of the earth.   Service means different things to different people and that's especially true when one of those people is a learned and lettered priest.  Namely, Father Matlak.   He gives us his take on this question as well as his opinion of American beer... :) Thanks for listening! V3 Episode 7 - "How can I help?"

Service.   Your service to the Church and all those in need around us is the best evidence of a living faith.    It's also the answer to a common question you might have as a NewCon...   "How can I help?".    If you are not asking this question, you should be!    Not only will you make a difference in the world and attract more people to the Way (aka Jesus) but your faith will be enriched with those graces that flow deepest where it's darkest in our world.  This is the fourth and final pillar and the last push on our fly wheel of faith for this cycle...   If you are listening AND acting on what you are hearing, we hope your fly wheel is starting to turn.  Don't worry!  It's not the end of S1!   Next we cycle back to Prayer. Thanks for listening! V3 Episode 6 - Clerical Clarification for "How Do I get involved?'

Once again, Father brings a new perspective to the podcast that only he can, this time on community and how to get involved.   Did you join a church community or did you join the Mystical Body of Christ?     Are you a back pew Catholic or are you sharing your gifts for the sake of your new found community?   Are you a loaner, or a ligament?  Listen and find out...  Resources: To find how you can get involved in your local parish check the parish website, attend a ministry fair, ask your pastor or... just hang around until somebody puts you to work!  :) Subscribe/Follow/Rate! V3 Episode 5 - "How do I get involved?"

Community.   We all want it.   We work best in it.   We are most effective in it.   It's likely one of the reasons we converted!  But what is it?   What is community?   It is likely what we are seeking when we ask the question...  "How do I get involved?"    You may also have "convert fever" wanting to wade in to your faith community to do your part and be a part of something bigger than yourself.    Our panel answers this question and more.   Thanks for listening! In our first episode we explain the title, a little about who we are and the Dominican Order and explain the purpose of the podcast.  Thanks for listening!
