Welcome to Part 2, the finale of the intro to the Saying Their Names series. In this part we discuss the cases of Levi Harrington, William Brown, and Dr. Andrew C. Jackson. Levi Harrington, William Brown, and Dr. A.C. Jackson are just three among thousands of black Americans who have been murdered at the hands of white racists in America. Yet, compared to white victims, their stories are less known. To remedy the obscuring of black history and suffering in America we'll be exploring these cases three at a time in chronological order. You've made it to the end of the witches' road. For a court that only existed for five months, the Salem Court of Oyer and Terminer sure knew how to exacerbate the chaos. The arrests (just under 150) and even the executions of the condemned witches (in the double digits) are not providing relief to any of the main afflicted. Instead, more afflicted, more accusations, and eventually a lot of confessors would overwhelm the system until Governor Phips finally steps in. How much damage can be done in three months? Considering we go from 4 to 67 witch suspects, 1 woman dying in jail and another being the first official condemned 'witch' to be hanged in that time, I'd say a lot. And the panic is not staying isolated in Salem Village. It's branching out to other nearby towns.
