Answers with Ken Ham - Such a Big Ship!

This is Ken Ham, inviting you and your family to visit our full-size Noah’s Ark. When I talk to guests at the Ark Encounter, I often hear, “Wow! The Ark was huge!” You really have to see it for yourself to understand how massive it was. Why did Noah need to build such a big ship? Well, because he, his family, the animals, and a year’s worth of supplies needed to be on board. And there was even room for anyone who would repent, though no one did. Now, some people think the flood was just a local event. But then why would God ask Noah to build such a big ship? The people and animals could’ve just moved away from the flood’s path. When we start with the Bible, we know the flood was a global event. Dig Deeper Thinking Outside the Box How Could Noah Fit the Animals on the Ark and Care for Them?

Faith & Finance - From Accumulation to Impact with Cody Hobelmann

“Abundance isn’t God’s provision for me to live in luxury; it’s His provision for me to help others live.” That line from Randy Alcorn captures the heart behind a financial finish line. When God entrusts us with more, the question is not simply, “How much can I keep?” but “How much can I use for His purposes?” Cody Hobelman, Certified Financial Planner and Certified Kingdom Advisor, joined the show today to share how that question became deeply personal in his own life. Along with his brother Keelan, Cody contributed to FaithFi’s new Field Guide, How Much Money Is Enough? But before he taught others how to set a financial finish line, he had to wrestle with it in his own context. The Early Pull of Accumulation Early in his career, Cody’s view of money was much like that of many people. He wanted a large income, growing wealth, and the kinds of opportunities that seemed to promise happiness and success—perhaps vacation homes, financial freedom, and a comfortable lifestyle. Those goals were not unusual. Many people begin their careers with an eye toward building, earning, and accumulating. But over time, Cody began to sense that something was missing. After college, he returned to church and began reading Scripture for himself. What stood out to him was how often Jesus spoke about money. Those passages began to reshape the way he viewed his role in managing what God had entrusted to him. When Obedience Begins to Reshape the Heart At the end of 2016, Cody’s church went through a series on managing money biblically. At the conclusion, the congregation was invited to commit to tithing in the coming year. After prayer and conversation with his wife, Steph, Cody decided to begin giving 10% of his income to the church in 2017. That step mattered. It was his first move into intentional giving. He began to see that not every dollar he earned had to serve his own lifestyle. God gives resources with purpose, and giving helped Cody begin to discover that purpose. But as he later reflected, his generosity at that stage still felt like “checking the box.” He was giving, but accumulation remained the deeper goal. Tithing became a generous layer atop a life still largely centered on earning, comparing, and building more. He realized he was trying to serve both God and money. The Question That Changed Everything In 2020, Cody’s brother Keelan invited him to consider a simple but life-altering question: “How much is enough?” In other words, if God provided more income over the course of his career—or even in a single year—how would Cody know how much was enough to spend on his own lifestyle? And how could he create margin so that additional resources could be used for God’s purposes? At first, Cody resisted the conversation. But he could not escape the realization that he was still at the center of his financial world. So he and Steph accepted the challenge. They chose a number that represented a reasonable level of lifestyle spending for a season. That number became their first financial finish line. A financial finish line is a cap on lifestyle spending. Once that line is set, anything beyond it can be directed toward generosity, debt reduction, ministry, or other God-honoring purposes. A Finish Line Before the Increase Interestingly, Cody and Steph set their first finish line when their income was still below that number. Steph was in graduate school, Cody was early in his career, and they still had student loans. They were also hoping to buy a home. So the finish line was not immediately restrictive. It was more future-oriented. But that decision prepared their hearts before additional income arrived. Not long after, Steph graduated and began working full-time. Cody also received a raise. Sudd

Max Lucado Daily Devotional - What Jesus Celebrates

Listen to Today's Devotion In Luke 15, Jesus tells three stories of something lost and something found. A lost sheep. A lost coin. And a lost son.  At the end of each story, Jesus describes a celebration. The point is clear. Jesus is happiest when the lost are found. Jesus rejoices because he knows what awaits the saved. In Heaven, you will at long last, have a heart just like his. Guiltless. Fearless. Tirelessly worshiping. Flawlessly discerning. Jesus also rejoices that we are saved from hell.  He says there’s only one sound there, and that is the “weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Every person you meet has been given an invitation to dinner.  When one says yes, celebrate!  When one hesitates, urge him to get ready. You don’t want anyone to miss the party. Read more Just Like Jesus For more inspirational messages please visit Max Lucado.

The Christian Working Woman - Saying No Without Guilt – 3

I’m digging into a topic: how to learn to say “no.” Many of us have a lot of trouble knowing how and when to set boundaries, and we end up trying to be super-people and find ourselves exhausted, discouraged, depressed, and ready to quit! Ephesians 2:10 says we are God’s workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God ordained in advance for us to do. We are here to work; we are created to bring glory to God through completing the good works he has planned for us to do. Laziness or indifference is never acceptable for a disciple of Jesus Christ. But by the same token, we are in human bodies which have limitations and when we start trying to do things that are not on God’s to-do list for us, that’s when we get in trouble. In a very helpful booklet entitled “Too Busy? Saying No Without Guilt,” Alice Fryling makes some important observations: “Jesus does not intend for us to carry the heavy burden of ill-fitting good works. If we were to join him at the dinner table, where he did much of his teaching during his life on earth, he might remind us that we do not need to do everything, that burnout is not his idea of obedience and that by God’s grace even a little bit goes a long way.” I like her term “ill-fitting good works.” I find I am often self-deceived into taking on too much because what I’m taking on is good. Someone needs to do it; it is not a trivial pursuit. But is it an “ill-fitting good work,” meaning it doesn’t fit me? Ms. Fryling goes on to say, “In fact, as we take on Jesus’ yoke, we find that the work we are yoked to do has been custom-made for us.” When you are doing those good work, you may get tired, but you won’t be overwhelmed. Jesus does not call you to do more than he will equip you to do under an easy yoke. When your “doing” gets to the stage of being a burden, no matter how good it may be, then you have to stop and ask, “Where and when should I say ‘no’?” I would encourage you to think about areas in your life where you have not yet learned to say “no.” Perhaps it is on your job or with your family or friends. If you’ve allowed yourself to come under a heavy yoke, I urge you to begin the process of saying “no” where you need to.

A Word With You - Lost In Our Language - #10273

I was teaching at a national seminar on how to communicate an unchanging Christ in our rapidly changing culture. Well, at the end of a session, a pastor from Kentucky came up to tell me his story he thought really illustrated some of what I had been saying. He said, "When I was a young man, we used to have some big tent revivals in my community. Each night an invitation was given for folks to come forward if they wanted to be, well as this country preacher would always say, 'borned again.'" The pastor went on to describe how some of the deacons would actually go out into the audience and go row-to-row, and shall we say they were "encouraging" folks to make that choice. Near the back, one of the deacons came to a young man who gave him an honest and memorable response. The deacon said, "Son, do you want to be borned again?" To which the boy said, "No." The deacon pressed the point, "Why don't you want to be borned again?" The young man answered in all seriousness, "Cause I'm afraid this time I'd come out as a girl!" I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Lost In Our Language." Okay, first we can laugh at what that boy said. Then, when we're done laughing, let's think about what we can learn from a response like that. The preacher used words that the preacher understood, but apparently not everyone who was listening understood. It's a classic example of the problem with a language called "Christianese." It's the language we church folks speak without even thinking, and the language that folks who desperately need our message don't begin to understand. Many of our "Christianese" words are good Bible words, but words that a lot of lost people around us just don't know. For just a moment, try to "think lost." Think to think like a lost person. Think what a person without the context of a Christian environment hears when we say words like "accept" or "receive Christ as your personal Savior." We receive packages today, not people, and when we accept someone, we treat them right. When you try to hear what a lost person hears, words like "salvation" and "saved" and "become a Christian" are either not understood or they're vastly misunderstood. Oh, and "born again." In a world without absolutes, the word "sin" has become a word without meaning to many people, as much as the word "believe." Most people would probably say "yes" if you asked them if they believe in Jesus. And you'll know that they don't mean what the Bible means when it says, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ." Even the word "Savior" is not one that people use much today. They're great words, but the people who need Jesus the most have no idea what they mean or have the wrong idea. That's what makes our word for today from the Word of God such a mission critical prayer for any of us who know people that we want to take to heaven with us. In Colossians 4:3-4, listen to Paul, "Pray for us that God may open a door for our message...Pray that I may proclaim it clearly as I should." It's not enough to just transmit the Good News about Jesus. No, like good missionaries, we need to ask God to help us translate it into non-religious words that lost people can understand. If a man came running into the room you're in, shouting in say Swahili, "The room is on fire! Evacuate immediately!" you'd probably go, "Well, he sounds sincere; I think he has something important to say." But you'd have no idea what he was saying, because it wasn't in words you could understand. It's not in your language, and you might die as a result. And that's no matter how important the message and no matter how sincere the messenger. The spiritually dying people around us hear us Christians announcing our all-important life-or-death message, often in words they don't understand. Yes, the gospel's life-or-death information that literally eternities depend on.

Life Issues - Another Woman Maimed by Abortion

Emergency first responders rushed to the scene of Providence Planned Parenthood in Rhode Island. A 28-year-old woman needed serious medical care due to heavy bleeding after an abortion.  This is not an isolated event, Operation Rescue reported three other medical emergencies coming from that very same location in just the last several months.   When paramedics arrived at the Planned Parenthood, official dispatch records show that Advanced Life Support intervention was needed. The public deserves to know that abortion kills an innocent child. They also need to know that it is not without serious risk to the mother. Not only in cases of surgical abortion, but also in the now popular chemical abortion. Around 1 in 10 women who take the deadly drug end up in the emergency room.

Keys for Kids - daily devotions and Bible stories ... - Cookies and Creation

Read: Genesis 1:1-3, 26-31; John 3:16 “Good morning, Amelia,” Heidi, Amelia’s stepmom, greeted her. “Good morning.” Amelia rubbed her eyes. “What are you making?” she asked, noticing all the ingredients Heidi had out. “Breakfast cookies!” Heidi smiled and held up a bag of raisins. “Would you like to help? I need some eggs cracked.” “Sure,” Amelia replied, pulling over a stool. “My mom says I’m good at cracking eggs. I love cooking.” “Then you’re the perfect person to help me make these cookies!” Heidi set the eggs on the counter. “You can crack two into that bowl.” Amelia did as she was asked. “Done,” she announced. “Now, let’s add some oats.” Heidi handed a measuring cup to Amelia, then leaned over her phone to say, “Open my Bible app.” Amelia frowned as she measured the oats. “Why do you listen to that book so much?” Heidi smiled. “Because it’s the best book in the world,” she replied as she added some chocolate chips to their mixture. “It’s about God and what He did for us through His Son, Jesus. Jesus saved me and changed my life.” “What did God do in the book?” Amelia asked, turning on the mixer. Heidi waited until the mixer was turned off. “Why do you like cooking?” she asked. “Making things is fun.” Amelia shrugged and eyed the ingredients they were using. “It’s cool to mix things like flour and oats together and get cookies out of it.” Heidi nodded. “One of the coolest things God did was make the world. And He didn’t start with flour or oats—He started with nothing. All He had to do was speak the entire world into existence.” Amelia looked at her skeptically. “The entire world?” “The entire world. He made us too, and He sent Jesus to save us from sin—our wrongs and everything that makes the world a broken place—so we could know and love God and live with Him forever. I enjoy reading the Bible because it teaches me about God and His love for us.” Heidi tapped on her tablet. “Do you want to hear the very first story in the Bible—the one where God created the world?” “I’d like that,” Amelia agreed as the pair began to roll the dough into balls. –Kimberly Brokish How about you? What’s the coolest thing you’ve made? Maybe it was a craft, a sweat treat, or a game you came up with. We can make a lot of things, but we have to start with something. Only God is powerful enough to make something out of nothing. He made everything there is, including you—and He wants to have a relationship with you. (To learn more, go to Have You Heard the Good News?) Praise God today because He made you and loves you. Wisdom for the Heart - Poetic Justice (Revelation 16:1-7)

Share a commentArmageddon is a word everyone recognizes, but few people slow down long enough to ask what the Bible actually says will happen and why. We take you straight into Revelation 16, where seven angels step forward with seven bowls of wrath, and we trace how these judgments move quickly, stack on top of each other, and hit their targets with terrifying precision. If you’ve ever wondered whether the “end times” are just symbolism, superstition, or something more concrete, this conversation brings clarity without trying to soften the weight of the text. We break down the first bowls in detail: painful sores falling on those who take the mark of the beast, the sea becoming literal blood with catastrophic loss of marine life, and then the shock that freshwater sources turn to blood as well. Along the way we connect the language of Revelation to the plagues of Egypt, talk about why naturalistic explanations miss the point of biblical prophecy, and underline the core theme running through the passage: God owns the earth, the air, the seas, and the human race, and he alone has the right to judge and determine. Then we face the sentence that stops readers cold: “they deserve it.” We explore the Bible’s own defense of God’s justice, the idea of poetic justice for those who shed the blood of God’s people, and the deeper claim that every one of us deserves judgment apart from mercy. That’s where the hope comes in: the same Scriptures that warn about wrath also offer grace, forgiveness, and new life through Jesus Christ. The Wisdom Journey - The Wedding That Never Happened (Matthew 1:18-25)

Share a commentJoseph is usually a footnote in the nativity scene, but Matthew’s Gospel paints him as something far more demanding and inspiring: a young man who absorbs shock, shame, and uncertainty and still chooses obedience. We slow down and take Joseph seriously, not as a silent bystander, but as a faithful, godly example of humility and integrity when life takes a turn you never planned. We dig into the first-century Jewish wedding process to show why the phrase “found to be with child” lands like an earthquake. Engagement, betrothal (kiddushin), and the wedding celebration (hoopa) weren’t just romantic steps, they carried legal weight, public expectations, and real consequences. That context makes Joseph’s response even more striking: he is just, yet unwilling to humiliate Mary, even though a public accusation could have protected his reputation. Then the story pivots with the angel’s dream in Matthew 1. Joseph is told not to fear, to take Mary as his wife, and to name the child Jesus, the Savior who fulfills prophecy and saves his people from their sins. We talk through the cost of that yes: surrendering pride, surrendering privacy, and surrendering personal priorities. We also press a practical question that hits home: God doesn’t demand a resume of experience, he looks for willingness and obedience, the kind Joseph shows when he simply does what the Lord commands. If you want a deeper, clearer view of the Christmas story, biblical manhood, and what surrender to God can look like in ordinary life, this conversation will meet you where you are. Our Daily Bread Podcast | Our Daily Bread - Joy from Jesus

Nancy’s cancer treatment caused so many ulcers in her mouth and throat that she couldn’t even swallow a piece of bread. She had to rely on milk to fill her stomach as many painful days passed. The only thing that brought a smile to the sixty-year-old’s face was the joy of knowing Jesus—and her grandsons. Being with them each week helped her to not dwell on her situation. “If not for the boys, I would have given up,” she said. The apostle Paul also found joy in Jesus and others despite his difficulties. His joy came from Jesus and living for Him. Despite being imprisoned (Philippians 1:13), he found strength to encourage others. He spoke of the joy that came from partnering in sharing the good news about Jesus, and from knowing what awaited him upon death (vv. 3-5, 18, 20). That confidence enabled him to say: “To me, to live is Christ and to die is gain” (v. 21). Paul could rejoice because Jesus was his life. His sense of contentment and security didn’t come from any possession or situation, but from knowing he belonged to Christ. Thus, in a letter written in the worst of circumstances, he could say in Philippians 4:4: “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” May we find joy in Jesus, who loves us, cares for us, and gives us strength to rejoice in any circumstance.

Answers with Ken Ham - Only Eight People

This is Ken Ham, author of the powerful apologetics book, A Flood of Evidence. Many Christians believe Noah’s flood was just a local event. This idea doesn’t come from the Bible—it comes from squeezing millions of years into Scripture. You see, if the flood really was global, then all the rock layers didn’t take millions of years to form. Instead, they were formed just a few thousand years ago during the flood. So, to accept millions of years, you have to reinterpret the flood. But in both the Old and New Testaments we read that only the eight people on the Ark survived. With a local flood people outside the area would’ve been fine. This contradicts Scripture. The Bible is clear—the flood was global. Listen to Today's Devotion Jesus said, “Your eyes are windows into your body.  If you open your eyes wide in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light.  If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a dank cellar.” In Gethsemane, Jesus faced betrayal on all levels.  The disciples ran away.  The people rejected him.  And God didn’t answer his anguished appeal to avoid “the cup of suffering.” So, what did Christ do? He found enough good in the face of Judas to call him friend, and he can help us do the same with those who hurt us.  He found purpose in the pain, seeing it as a necessary part of God’s greater plan. Wouldn’t you love to have a hope-filled heart?  God never promises to remove us from our struggles.  He does promise, however, to change the way we look at them. Life Issues - Chemical Abortion Enables Abusers

The abortion industry claims that access to abortion somehow protects women from abuse by making it easier for them to leave abusive relationships.  Like usual, the claims of the abortion industry could not be further from the truth. Evidence shows that abortion, especially chemical abortion, is a favorite tool of human traffickers and woman abusers. With these deadly drugs available by mail with little to no medical oversight in place, many women have been poisoned against their will.   Our friends at Charlotte Lozier Institute have documented that abortion is not an effective way to end violence, but rather often perpetuates it.

Keys for Kids - daily devotions and Bible stories ... - Construction Project

Read: Proverbs 16:19-24 “Milo, listen to me say this verse,” Joel said as he helped his little brother learn a memory verse for Sunday school. He recited each word slowly. “Okay, now see if you can repeat it.” Milo tried to repeat the verse, but he stumbled over the unfamiliar words. Joel tried to help him, but eventually gave up. “You’re hopeless,” he said. “Go practice on your own. I have to finish my homework.” Milo looked forlorn. “I’ll do better,” he said. Joel rolled his eyes. “Yeah, right.” As Milo got up from the table, Joel saw his mom standing in the doorway. She smiled at Milo. “Go work on your verse in your room, and I’ll be in to help you in a few minutes.” After Milo left, Mom turned to Joel. “I’m disappointed in your attitude toward your brother. He struggles to learn things and needs help and encouragement.” “Okay. Sorry,” Joel said, flipping open his math book. Later that day, Joel’s dad put his tablet on the table and scrolled through some pictures. “These were taken before, during, and after the Harrison Hotel construction,” he said. “I need to choose photos to use in my article about the project.” Joel pointed to a picture. “I like this one—it’s a good before shot. You can see the entire old building and the crane.” He looked at the dates in the file names of the pictures. “Wow! They tore the old building down in just a week. Didn’t it take over a year to build the new one?” “Yes, it did,” replied Dad. “Unfortunately, it’s much easier to tear down than to build up—in most areas of life, not just construction.” Mom nodded. “For example, we often find it easier to criticize people for what they do wrong than to praise and encourage them. But none of us is perfect, are we?” She looked at Joel. “That’s why Jesus died to save us. He took the punishment for our sins so we could have freedom and forgiveness in Him, and we need to show His love to others by encouraging them when they’re struggling.” Joel sighed, remembering how impatient he had been with his brother. “I need to go find Milo,” he said, “and help him learn a verse.” –Rose Ross Zediker How about you? Do your words and attitude encourage others? If someone is struggling with something that’s not a problem for you, do you help them? If somebody does something well, do you say so? Trust Jesus to help you be an encourager. Use your words and attitude to show others His love by building them up instead of tearing them down. Today's Key Verse: Encourage each other every day. Hebrews 3:13 (ERV) Today's Key Thought: Use encouraging words

Wisdom for the Heart - Both Sound and Sight - Part 2 (James 1:26-27)

Share a commentIf you want a definition of faith that is concrete enough to test, James gives one that is both simple and unsettling: care for orphans and widows in their distress, and keep yourself unstained by the world. We take that line seriously and ask what it means when compassion is not a sentimental moment but an ongoing, hands-on responsibility for people who can never repay you. Along the way, we connect the heartbeat of the gospel to a Father’s heart, and to the kind of generosity that imitates God instead of trying to “pay God back.”We also zoom out into church history and the world James wrote into. In the first century, infanticide and child abandonment were normal in Greece and Rome, with infant girls often left to die or be exploited. Early Christians went out at night to rescue children and raise them, and that legacy echoes through stories like George Mueller’s orphan work and the American orphan trains that helped shape the modern foster care system. These are not random history lessons; they show how Christian compassion can rebuild a culture’s definition of human value. Then the conversation turns to courage and cost, including the Dutch efforts to save Jewish babies during Nazi raids and the Ten Boom safe houses, followed by a sobering look at how widows have been treated in places where the gospel is absent, including the history of widow burning in India and the pushback led by gospel-driven reformers. We finish with a direct, daily challenge from James: reject the world’s value system, bridle self-promoting speech, and refuse to ignore needs that will never “pay off” in earthly terms. If this moved you or challenged you, subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review. The Wisdom Journey - The Songs of Surrendered Hearts (Luke 1:39-80)

Share a commentA teenage girl hears news that could ruin her reputation and reshape her future, and her first move is not damage control. She walks for days to the hill country to find the one person who might understand: Elizabeth, also living inside a miracle. When Mary arrives, confirmation meets compassion and the moment opens into one of the most unforgettable worship songs in Scripture, the Magnificat from Luke 1.We trace Mary’s praise line by line and notice what makes it so steady. She calls God her Savior, owns her humility, and anchors her words in the Old Testament. Her song is not an escape plan from scandal or suffering; it is a decision to focus on God’s character, God’s power, and God’s promises. If you’re looking for practical Christian encouragement, biblical theology, or a deeper Advent and Christmas reflection, Mary’s response shows what it looks like to surrender one day at a time. Then the spotlight shifts to John’s birth and the moment Zechariah’s silence breaks. A simple act of obedience, “His name is John,” turns into a prophetic hymn about redemption, covenant faithfulness, and a coming Messiah who is called the Sunrise from on high. We talk about John the Baptist as a long-awaited prophet, and we end with a personal reminder that still lands today: God remembers you, hears your prayers, and meets you with grace in both joy and difficulty. If this encouraged you, subscribe, share the episode with a friend, and leave a review. Our Daily Bread Podcast | Our Daily Bread - Acting with Integrity

In a moment of distraction, Sarah unknowingly dropped her diamond engagement ring into a homeless man’s cup. Billy Ray, the panhandler who was given the ring, had it appraised and considered selling it. But he chose honesty and returned it to Sarah when she came back a few days later. Sarah and her husband set up a fund so donations could be made to help Billy Ray, which led to an outpouring of generosity from others. Billy Ray received financial and legal counsel and was eventually able to buy a home. He was also reunited with his long-lost family. When we practice integrity, we please God and inspire others. Solomon says God delighted in his integrity: "The Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in people who are trustworthy” (Proverbs 12:22). He uses strong language to describe God’s view of dishonesty—He detests it. When God’s people lie or “deceit is in [their] hearts” (v. 20), it defies Him and goes against His character. In contrast, when His people have “truthful lips” (v. 19) and deal faithfully, it brings Him joy. So treating others well is more than just telling the truth—it reflects God’s own character. And in a world where deception can seem profitable, our integrity is something He “delights in” (v. 22). Let’s commit to act with integrity as God helps us. Even if the world doesn’t notice, He’s delighted when we walk in His ways.
