I definitely feel uncomfortable sharing this episode BUT transparency and authenticity are some of my strongest values in how I show up for my community. In this episode I am sharing 3 of my "doula coach confessions" that I have never "kept secret" but have not said out loud in this way either. I mention in this episode that my "disqualifiers" are also my "qualifiers" in SO many ways. I also share to be a walking permission slip for doulas wanting to do things THEIR way, against the grain, and know that there is a different way to do things when you are juggling a career in birth work alongside pregnancies, young kids, financial pressure and life in general. Long story short, Motherhood has not "come easy" to me, and I have NOT been showing up as the mom I desire to be. FAR from her. Peek behind the curtain of what things have been like for me the last couple months in motherhood, the "ah ha's" I'm having, and the things I'm being faced with head on so I can make needed changes. This is NOT doula related AT ALL, but I know my people are majority moms and are juggling business and motherhood. This does NOT make me feel "hirable", or an "expert in the space", but being transparent with my audience is a core value of mine so I felt it on my heart to unveil the highlight reel and share some of the "not great" things I've been dealing with. The real and the raw of what I am NOT proud of, but felt I NEEDED to share. I do hope this makes you feel less alone in your own journey. Inside this episode I spill the tea on 5 of the clauses that I see or hear about doulas adding to their contracts that I would NOT add to mine. I dive into WHY I would not add these things to my contract, why they don't make sense, are in disservice to the client, or are even out of integrity.I DO however understand the intention behind having these in the contract and that doulas are simply attempting to set and hold boundaries to keep themselves from burning out.There is always nuance and of course I bring that to this conversation. I read a comment on a doula facebook page that sparked the importance for this nuanced conversation. I am typically in the camp of charging for all the births you attend! Even as a newbie and YES even for your certifying births. That said, I wanted to bring some nuance to the conversations because there is duality to everything and nothing in business or life is black and white. The ENERGY behind WHY you are doing births for fee or not matters more than anything else. In this episode I talk about why charging MAY BE the best option and why doing a birth or 2 for free MAY ALSO be a better option for you. It all goes back to it being an equal energy exchange and I dig into examples of how this can look. Regardless, it requires introspection and knowing yourself. You can't simply base your decisions or prices on what others are doing or based on what you're "supposed" to do. My warning is to not let "imposter syndrome" or fear of not getting hired drive the car in this important decision! Ask yourself: Why am I charging what I am charging? Why am I doing births for free? Sharing with you Module 3 of my $47 course, Consults to Clients- Master Attracting Dream Clients to book consult calls with you, and confidently running the call so they can’t wait to HIRE you! There are 4 key things to do to prep them before the call. This needs to start with an application when they book the call- YES this is NEEDED (I will teach you what to ask down below)Followed by an EASY way for them to book a consult call with you Followed by a confirmation email with a zoom link after they book- yes I do all my consults via Zoom!Concluded with a reminder the day before (and maybe even an hour before as well) These can be automated!  Let’s look at each of these in a little more detail.1. The application does not have to be super extensive or formal, but it should include certain questions that will make the consultation smoother, and give you information AHEAD of time, Including:Some basic demographic questions about themselvesSo you don't have to ask on the call- wastes time and is boring  An overview of their past experiences, fears, preconceived notions coming into this experience.How they envision their birth going this time- dream birth YOUR PRICES! trust me- this makes the call so much less awkward at the end and qualifies the lead before you waste your time on a call for them to say “I can’t afford it”Have them choose if they would rather do payment plan or pay in full  Asking these will prepare you for how to LEAD the call, and prepare them for the investment.It also makes them feel SEEN when they get asked about their past, fears and desires.This helps them connect with you and trust youYou will dive deeper into these questions on the call itself  2. From here, booking should be easy and should NOT be back and forth over text and DM! - use something like Calandly. This is a better experience for them, and less to keep track of for you.  3. Once booked, they should get a confirmation email from you with a zoom link to the call and a thank you! 4. Getting a little woo here. The more you are part of my world, the more you will get this side of me. MONEY is ENERGY!  The vibration of $1 is different than $1k or $1 million. Your prices have to be an equal energetic exchange with the bandwidth you are putting out, or burn out will happen! I have an example of an aligned client vs an unaligned one, and how it affects the bandwidth needed. We talk about the twofold conversation about pricing alignment and ideal clients. Pricing is about the FEELING, not JUST the cost it takes to provide the service. Going through the practice of learning how to FEEL this in your body. I walk you through an example in the episode of tapping into your body. You could be subconsciously pushing clients away if there is a mismatch between your pricing and your output. When I was taking clients, I raised my prices every 3-4 clients. I did this based on a feeling. We are teaching our clients to check in with their bodies and their intuition, but we are not doing that in our business. So now you know the bandwidth does not match, but you have NO idea HOW to actually raise your prices. The why behind my pivot and what to expect from this podcast. Moving from the Driver's Seat Moms Podcast and creating this podcast.My story into birth work via my own birth stories and motherhood journey. How I pushed off doula work for a LONG time before I finally leaned into this profession that truly CHOSE me! How I built my in person doula business in 2020 and how I grew online. The evolution of my doula business as I navigated pregnancies, birthed more babies as well as attended more births. Finally went full time in my business, and soon after added in offers that were more scalable and virtual with my prenatal coaching program, as well as began creating an agency. Got pregnant unexpectedly with my 2nd set of twins. Poured into my prenatal coaching program and was set up to have a maternity leave.The birth of my babies and the loss of my baby girl at birth. The most powerful, autonomous birth of my baby girl. I knew in her transition there was a bigger purpose. Her life had a bigger purpose. I had to believe there was a reason why I was supposed to grow her and know her. Telling the story for the first time about her unmedicated birth at home on my bed. The duality of her birth. I burned my business down and we survived on meal train donations for months. I dipped my toe into business coaching and LOVED it. Even got a part time job for a non-profit as a doula coordinator.How I got my fire back:) It was a full body FUCK YES! Pouring my cup into the doulas so they can pour their cups into the moms.Helping moms be successful just felt right. Everything in my body was telling me “this is the thing”. This is how you create a purpose out of my daughters story. Not despite my trauma, but BECAUSE of her. She is the fire under my ass. She left this planet for a reason and she came to this planet for a reason. Part of it was to propel me into this next thing. I feel more lit up about this than anything I have ever done and I did not think that was possible. I am here to change fucking lives! I want doulas to have profitable and fulfilling as fuck businesses. Thank you for being here.
