Chaos is everywhere on We Deserve Better with Dorrin Rosenfeld

Nancy Schussel is just your average woman who suddenly finds it very hard to be in the outside world, because that world has seemed to change since her brain trauma. Physically, psychologically, and intellectually, the universe is suddenly producing major challenges everywhere she turns. Life is traditionally unexpected, but we do not expect the physical boundaries of our normal space to change, or our memory to simply go on vacation when we need it most. Nancy has found the act of renegotiation herself with her world to has become the new normal. We are all growing older, so some blame that process, but a sudden change in our circumstances (in our world or in our person) is never ordinary. She finds that the act of rediscovering every common aspect of life is suddenly necessary. None of us choose to be in a different world, but the process of finding oneself there, despite our attemps to be elsewhere, can be very disconcerting. Nancy will help us understand how a brain injury messes with every aspect of life and forces us to find new ways to cope. This is impossible for one to perfect these thoughts and challenges beforehand as these injuries are nearly always unexpected. We have each been put in an essentially new universe and left alone to deal with it however we can. We can do better by understanding that we are not in this alone. If we see that these new phenomena are not new at all, but simply a rung in the ladder of the world which we all must climb, we realize others have done it, so we can too.

The Matt Duffin Show : Sept. 1, my Memorial day of different Labors...

My 'prescribed' summer medicine has been extended, but soon, real soon, the "Summer of Matt, Summer of Fun" is due for a check up with my BIRN friends and foes, and check this, for myself it is much needed. I soarly miss Brain Injury Radio.  But a prescribed break was needed, for my health if not my ways.  TMDS, checking back in, before a 'breif' check out, for a couple weeks I pray.  Not my rules, but the 'medicine' is seeming to work.   Brain rests aren't majic, no THC injected in the Rest Stops.  (ever take a vacation in Milton, Indiana?  I did?)   And as ALWAYS, my neuropsycologist was correct in slowing down this wreck of a brain.  I feel recovery happened again, but I'm its only my brain's opinion, not the lovely darling super doc who has the throttle under her control, pretty much for the past 11-ish years.   Rock On RHI and IU Health... (424)  243-9540  is the number to call from 10 pm until around Midnight.  Just call, say hi,  Matt.  Or, screw off Matt...I'm good with either. September 1st has been a Dark Comedy in my world....Laugh life off with me...

Dream Catchers - The Infanenet Voyage beyond disability - Les Paul Morgan

What if I told you that all of your pain, Hurt, and Heart Ache, and suffereing was just part a big devilish game that Satin has thrown in your face to try to stop you from acceping who you are no matter what life or your disabilility has thrown at you. When you realiize who you really are you will see that you are a person first not a disability. I only wish I could have understood the the fact that each and every day matterd and I was important and had a lot of opourtunitys when I was younger than today. But that doesnt matter now thw fact that you are all still here and alive means that you are willing to lean new life skill and set new goals and that means a lot to me!!! Im back in the saddle again after fighting my own battles of being very sick for the past 6 weeks as well as fighting massive migranes but as I said before Dream Catchers is about acceptance, freendship and Kindness and compassion as we all go on a journey together around the World together live on the Brain Injury Radio Network.

give me libery- no everything for free

Disability has been associated with the worst treatment that man kind has shown form abuse, total control of, the loss of dignity and human rights to death and abandonment to die.  Many generations of people with disabilities fought to gain these things that all Americans once held true.  The fought hard and gave their all including their lies for this better world.   And typically, it has been the government they had to fight along with the professionals who held us captive.  It only took a few free thinkers with disabilities to make this happen.  No, the fight is to get more.  As our country plummets into debit our Politian’s keep promising more free stuff free to all even those who don’t live here.  They want so badly to be elected public official who mostly leave millionaires their public service by promising thing that never happen and controlling those they can.  Who is first to pay or be blamed where do those fingers point first and how ironic where the movement is its back with those who lost the fight a fight that may or will not ever happen again people sold their freedom for free stuff something as little as a fair ticked or gas card.  This and more tonight at 7;PM

ENTILED PEOPLE - GIVE IT TO ME NOW

Do we learn from history of do we repeat it, i think the answer is easy and that is that we repeat it.  As fast as they can they are changing our history, our lessons in live and living.  Polititians are turning us against each other in order to profit from us.  Professionals are taking our voices away and we support then in doing it.  Because they give us free stuff, we want to be validated by them.    They may give you what you want to hear, a free movie or picnic but all the while they are ploting how they can control, profit and lead you where they want you to go.  All the time we go along with it for the free stuff to be validated.  push comes to shove you are history . If there is any comon seansse of people who like their freedon stand up before it is to ate

Safety in the Home: We Deserve Better with Dorrin Rosenfeld

Kathleen Stross, my guest this evening, will talk about some of the problems that people have (particularly head-injury survivors) in navigating spaces. She comes from a physical therapy background and works with rebalancing life for survivors of traumatic brain injuries, at the Vestibular Disorders Association. That is, any issue regarding dizziness, vertigo, balance, ataxia, postural stability, and the Vestibular-Ocular reflex is her area of expertise. Admittedly, this is a huge category, but it all relates to vestibular problems. Unfortunately, head-injury survivors universally have problems navigating spaces. She will discuss why brain injuries seemingly always cause vestibular disorders. What exactly are these disorders? And what can we do to improve our gait and movement on a permanent basis? These questions lead to the more important functional issues of FALL PREVENTION and HOME SAFETY. I know these questions are of concern to me, and I imagine that these are not idle queries for a lot of head-injured folks. Let's face it, our balance is not what it used to be. She will talk about why this is and what we can do about it. On this issue, she has written a home safety assessment to help prevent falls in the home.

Special Edition: Swimming in the River of Denial with Nich Dee

    - "Swimming in the river of denial." As people and families with TBI know, the survivor (and sometimes family members) tends to be in denial of how bad the deficits are, especially in the early stages of recovery. How do you help the survivor realize things are not like they used to be? Eventually they will catch on, but not before a lot of struggles. I can remember when my light finally dawned and I realized "not the same Nichole." And to this day 30 years later, I still find things that I can't do as well and get frustrated and deny that I can't do it. So I go ahead and do it and end up paying for it later. Is there a way to make us get out of the denial quicker and maybe learn from it? Hosted by Nich Dee

"Mess With MS" Presents The True Colors Of A Survivor with Alisa Marie

Lisa Dryer has the incomparable Alisa Marie back to "Mess With MS," to share Strength, Hope, and Humor on this VERY SPECIAL episode!  My name is Lisa Dryer and I have been on the Brain Injury Radio Network as a guest and as a host for two years now.   When I was a child, I endured learning difficulties and had a seizure disorder. This was caused by the cardiac arrest and the lack of oxygen to my brain as a premature infant in the Neonatal Care Unit. When I was an adult, I finally realized that what I thought was a "learning disability" was actually a brain injury with the complications Premature birth can have. I had been struggling with akward health difficulties for a while. Then I saw a computerized tomography (CT) scan, and I laughed and when showed an abnormal brain reading. I said,“I know that already! Tell me something I don’t know!” Then, they told me I had M.S. and I took the news with ease. Without knowing it to be a serious health complication! From my first interview, I have said that my outlook on life would be, “Find the beautiful around you and stay calm.” That is where my idea for the grassroots #MSbeautiful came from.  While it is important to acknowledge our MS or BI it is also important to remember to RELAX when we can! To Have Fun! To try to learn new coping mechanisms and to try to meet and communicate with the important or sometimes new people in our lives! I am having the incomparable Alisa Marie on my show tonight! 7/13/2019 at 5:30 PST-8:30 Eastern  This will be a very special episode! Please tune in for more giveaways and lots of strength, hope and wonderful survivor stories!  424-243-9540

Special Edition - Ken Collins on the Limbic System

Tonight,  Ken Collins will talk about the role the limbic system plays in brain injury recovery.  The limbic system controls our emotions, personality and where fight or flight response is centered.  Why don't more people know about this and why isn't the limbic system better understood by people with brain injuries since emotions, personality changes and anger can play such a big role in the lives of people with brain injuries?  Maybe if people with brain injuries had a better understanding of the limbic system our lives might be a little easier and our quality of life would be improved.

pretending nothing is wrong pushing out limits with craig the builder

Life is hard real hard, everyone is out for them self, then you go and have a brain injury, do you learn to cope, change the system, try to help.  the system has all this already planed they have for ever now, you may think it is about youbut it comes down to money and power at your expense.  i use to tell everyone i met everywhere.  probablly a mistake, tell as few as you can, it will be held against you and thought against you, as you are not capable, worthless of no value, you will be used, exploited and more.   the world may be hard don't let it harden you, you have been awakened live it

How do I return to normal after my TBI? We Deserve Better - Dorrin Rosenfeld

Multiple systems are disrupted during any brain trauma. There are so many things that we can choose to work on to heal, that it's easy to get lost. This podcast will discuss several different strategies we can choose  - non-conventional ways -  to improve the health of the body, or of only one specific aspect of our health, as we choose. Emily Annis a previous guest on this show (discussing her stroke and her website)  and she will revisit us tonight talking about her particular interest - essential oils. This is something else she is passionate about and the healing effects are widespread and cover many categories. I will talk about chiropractic care, as that is something I have found is a huge help to me and many others who have experienced physical or emotional traumas. One of the big problems we see in our office is anxiety disorders among people who have had head injuries of some sort. That is something that can be explored and discussed. Another problem we often encounter is depression. Bob Woolery (my husband, who is also a head injury survivor) will discuss fighting depression through action, a survival skill he has learned and practiced throughout the years. He has found that any tangible accomplishment can lift depression. In past episodes, I've discussed, meditation, reiki massage, medical marijuana, upper cervical chiropractic, legal intervention. For different people, they can each be effective. I would love to get more ideas for healing myself and others. Anyone else?

Her desire to overcome and succeed allowed her to work putting herself through college, which led to a successful career of over 25 years, assisting and enriching the lives of others. Wondering how she does it? She urges us not to focus on what was lost but rather what we have. Family and friends may walk out of our lives because things have changed. It is important to realize we are not at fault, we did not ask for this to happen. Head injuries happen all different times to all sorts of people; and they do not magically disappear. Brain injuries continue to heal for the rest of our life, causing changes in us  and those around us. We are the same person we have always been. What has changed is that we now have limitations. We will face disappointments due to lack of acceptance and understanding. Monti urges us not to lose our identity but to look inside for Who We Are not What We Were. We need to find our purpose. In our search for acceptance we ask our self "What did I do wrong" or " What do I need to do"? We cannot control how others feel or act. We can control how we feel and how we respond to others. As she has put it, "You just got fired from life." Most of us with head injuries have experienced the emotion of loss of self and purpose. We are many times unable to return to our occupation or our position in our family. Having experience with this, Monti points out the dangers of the "What if's, expecting to find an easy answer or the right pill, therapy or doctor which can change everything. False promises often result in disappointments. We face this all the time. But she  is here to share and encourage us to understand WE TOO WILL HEAL.
