When we live under constant dryness where there is no fruit and life it should be an indicator that something is wrong. Thank the LORD that in His grace He disciplines us that we may know we are true children and not illegitimate. When Holy Spirit reveals to us that there is hidden sin we must come humbly and repent. Once we do it opens the door for life and fruit and the for Holy Spirit to come in and move for when there is sin it closes the door for God to move as He will have nothing to do with unholiness.
