EP 12: Food forests and questioning the concept of 'nature' - with Malika Cieremans
How can we relearn what we view as nature and as agriculture? Our guest in this episode is Malika Cieremans, whois a dutch pioneer in the field of food forests. She has started more than 25 years ago, before 'food forest' was even a word in the dutch language. She has her own piece of land in the forest close to Bennekom and she works with education, design, knowledge and development of food forests in the Netherlands since 10 years. In this episode we talk about our relationship to forests whilst placing them in an international context, the importance and variety of food forests and the arbitrary line between nature and agriculture that has become so powerful in legislation.Host of this podcast: Matti. Marginalized communities: EP 9 Part 2 - The history of women in dutch agriculture
This episode is the second part of our conversation with Margreet van der Burg about the history of women in dutch agriculture throughout the 20th century. Margreet is a historian who is specialized in gender studies related to agriculture, and she works as a teacher and researcher at the Wageningen university. In this episode we continue talking about the segregated agricultural education system, the low percentage of female-owned farms in the Netherlands and the present context of rural women.Disclaimer: we will be talking in quite a binary way, when discussing the differences between activities, norms and rights for men and women in the agricultural sector. As a non-binary person myself, I would like to add a few words here to acknowledge the fluidity of gender and the realities in the past and the present of genderqueer people on the farmland. Summer Edition: Permaculture, Community and Art in Portugal
This summer, Jes, usually our editor, found himself at a special place in the midst of the old cork oak forests of Sintra in Portugal. In these forests, a permaculture design school resides. The school is called Terra Alta and was founded by Pedro Valdjiu. Jes got the chance to interview him, talking about his journey towards permaculture, his musical career, the role of art in permaculture and the importance of having a community supporting you. In the second part, Jes speaks with Jenny Ready. She is the co-host & teacher of Terra Alta and an artist, soon releasing her debut EP. Jenny explains how she got involved with Terra Alta, how she became a certified permaculture teacher and the influence permaculture has had on her life as an artist. Make sure to stick to the end to hear the stories of both our guests & enjoy the episode! [The recording of this episode wasn't planned beforehand, therefore the audio quality is not the best, our apologies for this.
He shares his fascinating perspective on our current economy and agricultural practices. Does owning land really make sense? What if the concept of land ownership was always meant to be temporary? What impact does this have on agriculture? We explore issues surrounding property rights and discuss an economy based on goods and services. Is this an unrealistic notion, or is our current agricultural system actually an unsustainable utopia?

EP 5 (LIVE): Vegan farming and humanure - with Joost van Strien
This episode is a special one: it was recorded live with an audience! We delve into the topic of Vegan Farming with Joost van Strien. He is known as the farmer of Zonnegoed in Flevoland and from No Shit Food. Joost is one of the two (larger scale) vegan farmers in the Netherlands, a true pioneer! Topics like green manure, vegan compost, and innovative cultivation methods, as well as the nutrient cycle in agriculture, are discussed. The latter topic is delved into more deeply with the help of Kimo van Dijk, a researcher from Wageningen University & Research, who enriches us with his scientific knowledge about humanure (=human manure). A discussion is opened with the audience about the statement: “To produce food in a sustainable way, we should transition to humanure and vegan compost instead of chemical fertilizer and animal manure”. Are you curious about the opinion of the audience? Tune in and enjoy! How to connect place, culture and economy according to the principles of agro-ecology for present and future generations? How do we refoster our local roots and rebuild a local economy? Our guest in this episode is Edo Caceres Salgado.
