    Isolation

Isolation became normal after COVID. For many people, it became safe. Comfortable. Convenient. Necessary. But what happens when isolation stops being protection… and quietly becomes imprisonment? In this powerful episode of Embracing The Fight, Erica Lamar dives deep into the emotional, psychological, and social effects of isolation in today's technology-driven world. Erica explores how society adapted to separation after the pandemic — replacing human connection with screens, text messages, social media, food delivery apps, remote work, and digital convenience. While technology has made life easier, she challenges listeners to ask: At what cost? Drawing parallels to solitary confinement — one of the harshest forms of punishment known because of what prolonged isolation can do to the human mind — Erica opens an honest conversation about anxiety, depression, loneliness, grief, unemployment, aging, heartbreak, rejection, and emotional withdrawal. She speaks directly to those who isolate as a defense mechanism… those who stopped going out after losing a job… those who avoid people because social interaction now feels overwhelming… and those who slowly disappeared into the comfort of being alone. This episode is not about judgment. It is about grace. Healing. Reconnection. And learning how to step back into life again. Erica shares practical and heartfelt encouragement on: • How to slowly reconnect with people after isolation • Overcoming social anxiety and fear of being around others • Why human fellowship is necessary for emotional wellness • How aging and life changes can unintentionally create loneliness • Rebuilding confidence outside of technology and social media • Why community, conversation, and human touch still matter • How to get "back out there" one step at a time Sometimes healing starts with simply leaving the house. Taking a walk. Calling a friend. Going to church. Attending an event. Sitting in the park. Smiling at someone. Existing in community again. Technology is a convenience — not a replacement for human connection. If you've been feeling disconnected, emotionally exhausted, lonely, unseen, or trapped in your own thoughts… this episode is for you. Give yourself grace. Give others grace. And get back out there. 🎙️ Listen, Like, Share & Subscribe to Embracing The Fight on all social media platforms! OverDiagnosis / Misdiagnosis

🎙️ Overdiagnosis / Misdiagnosis: Why Your Voice Matters in Your Healing In this episode of Embracing the Fight, we dive into a topic that affects millions of people but isn't talked about enough — overdiagnosis and misdiagnosis. Too often, patients leave the doctor's office with a diagnosis but without the full story. Symptoms are rushed through. Details are forgotten. Pride, fear, or embarrassment keep us from saying everything we should. And sometimes, that leads to treating the wrong problem. One of the most powerful things you can do for your health is write down your symptoms. Document what you feel, when you feel it, what triggers it, and how long it lasts. When you walk into an appointment prepared, you give your medical provider a clearer picture of what's really happening in your body. Healing starts with honesty and clarity. That also means being willing to share openly — even when it's uncomfortable. Pride has no place in the doctor's office. Your goal is not to look strong; your goal is to get well. This conversation is especially important for parents. Many children are diagnosed with ADHD, but in some cases the underlying condition may actually be autism spectrum disorder. While both conditions can share overlapping traits, the support strategies, therapies, and educational approaches can be very different. When a child receives the wrong diagnosis, they may also receive the wrong tools for success. That's why parent advocacy matters. Ask questions. Seek second opinions. Observe your child closely. And never be afraid to speak up when something doesn't feel right. Your voice could be the difference between frustration and breakthrough for your child. This episode is about understanding that your health journey is a partnership. Doctors bring medical expertise. But you bring the lived experience of your own body — or your child's behavior. And when those two things come together with honesty, documentation, and advocacy, real healing becomes possible. Because the truth is: What you don't say can delay your healing. But what you share openly can change everything. 🔥 About Embracing the Fight Originally created to normalize conversations about physical and mental health, Embracing the Fight has evolved. Autism

In today's episode of Embracing the Fight, Erica Lamar opens an important and timely conversation about Autism—what it is, what it isn't, and why awareness must be rooted in understanding, not assumptions. This episode was inspired by the recent controversy surrounding Mattel's release of an autistic Barbie, which sparked debate about representation and whether autism "has a look." Erica breaks down why that narrative misses the bigger picture and shares the powerful story of Precious Hill, an autistic mother raising autistic children, whose daughter Mikko inspired the doll. The Barbie was never meant to represent the entire autism spectrum—but to bring awareness, spark inclusion, and normalize accommodations like sensory headphones, autistic-friendly clothing, and alternative communication styles. Erica also dives into: What autism is from a scientific and medical perspective What autism is not Why autism is called a spectrum Who autism impacts most, including statistics and underdiagnosis in women and communities of color Treatment and support options that improve quality of life Practical ways you can help create a more inclusive world Autism does not have a single look—but it does have lived experiences that deserve to be seen, heard, and respected. 2025 Reflections

2025 was not a highlight reel — it was a healing journey. This year of Embracing the Fight took us through vulnerability, faith, resilience, health, identity, purpose, and the courage it takes to keep showing up even when life is heavy. From deeply personal solo reflections to powerful guest conversations, each episode explored what it means to fight for yourself — mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally. Throughout the year, we talked about: Faith, grace, and healing — trusting God in the waiting, believing in miracles, and resting in the truth that healing is not weakness. Identity and purpose — navigating crossroads, imposter syndrome, self-doubt, trauma, and discovering how pain often reveals purpose. Health and the body — nutrition, physical activity, detoxing, perimenopause, midlife eating disorders, addiction, drug interactions, illness, and learning to listen to what the body is trying to say. Mental and emotional wellness — vulnerability, safe spaces, winter blues, grief, breath, rest, music, love, and the power of honest conversations. Survivorship and testimony — stories of survival, resilience, advocacy, ambition, motherhood, generational impact, and the strength required while waiting. Letting go and moving forward — releasing what no longer serves us, redefining family, embracing change, and choosing healing over hiding. Guests bravely shared their stories — from survivors and advocates to authors, healers, and coaches — reminding us that no fight is wasted, no story is small, and no season is permanent. This year was about: ✨ Choosing transparency ✨ Honoring rest ✨ Trusting God in the unknown ✨ Learning to be okay with being okay ✨ And continuing to fight — even when tired As we step into a new year, this reflection stands as proof that growth doesn't always look loud — sometimes it looks like staying, breathing, believing, and trying again. As December 31, 2025 comes to a close, she briefly begins to reflect on the year behind her—but is led to save the full Year in Review for the very first episode of 2026. Instead, she invites listeners into something just as meaningful: a conversation about windows—what they reveal, what they protect, and what they require of us. Through a faith-centered and deeply personal lens, Erica explores several dimensions of windows: ✨ Biblical windows — the promise of God to open the windows of heaven and pour out blessings so abundant there isn't room to receive them. What does it really mean to live open, expectant, and prepared for overflow? 👁️ Eyes as windows to the soul — what we allow ourselves to see, what we refuse to see, and how discernment, truth, and vulnerability are often revealed through the eyes. 🚪 Windows of opportunity — those fleeting moments in life when courage, obedience, and timing intersect. Will you recognize the window when it opens? Will you have the faith to step toward it? 🪟 The windows we look through — the ones that require cleaning. Erica reminds us that if our windows are clouded by pain, fear, unhealed trauma, or outdated beliefs, we may misinterpret what's ahead. Sometimes clarity isn't about changing the future—it's about cleaning the lens through which we view it. This episode is an invitation to pause, reflect, and ask yourself: What window is God opening for me? What window needs cleaning? And what blessing might I be blocking because I don't believe I have room to receive it? As we close out 2025 together, Windows serves as a gentle but powerful reminder that preparation, perspective, and faith matter—especially when you're standing on the edge of something new. 🎥 Subscribe & Stay Connected to Embracing the Fight Grow with a community that's healing, empowering, and elevating—one episode at a time. Drug Interactions

Medications can save lives—but only when they're used safely and intentionally. In today's episode, we break down drug interactions and why understanding what you're taking is just as important as taking it. Too often, people are prescribed medications without being told what to avoid, what warning signs to look for, or how one prescription can impact another. This episode is about empowerment, awareness, and advocacy for your health. In this episode, we discuss: ✔️ Why you should always know exactly what medications and supplements you're taking ✔️ Foods, drinks, and activities that can interfere with medications ✔️ Common warning signs that may signal a medical emergency ✔️ Why every doctor you see—specialists included—needs your full medication list ✔️ When symptoms mean "wait and watch" vs. when to call the doctor immediately Additional drug-interaction considerations we cover: Over-the-counter meds and supplements that can quietly cause harm Mixing prescriptions with alcohol, caffeine, or recreational substances Changes in medication dosage, brand, or timing—and why they matter How age, weight, liver function, and kidney health affect drug reactions Using multiple pharmacies vs. one centralized pharmacy The risks of stopping medications suddenly without guidance Herbal remedies and "natural" products that still interact with prescriptions Why side effects aren't always harmless—and shouldn't be ignored This conversation is especially important if you: 🔹 Take multiple medications 🔹 Are managing chronic illness 🔹 Recently had medication changes 🔹 Are navigating menopause, mental health, or post-surgical care 🔹 Care for children, elders, or loved ones with complex health needs Your body communicates—we just have to listen. This episode is about learning the signs, asking the right questions, and protecting yourself through knowledge. 🎧 Listen, learn, and share—because understanding your medications can save your life. 📌 This episode is for educational purposes only and does not replace professional medical advice. Transparency

In today's episode of Embracing the Fight, Erica dives deep into one of the most powerful healing tools we often avoid—transparency. The old folks used to say, "What's done in the dark will always come to the light." And they were right. Holding in pain, trauma, secrets, or shame doesn't protect us—it slowly destroys us from the inside. Transparency is the medicine that heals. Whether you reveal it to God, a trusted friend, a counselor, or even your journal, letting truth rise to the surface is how you stop imploding and start living. Today's episode lovingly challenges you to remove the mask, acknowledge what hurts, and step into the freedom that comes when you choose honesty over hiding. ABOUT THIS SHOW

Welcome to Embracing The Fight, a podcast designed to normalize the conversation surrounding physical and mental health issues. I, Erica Lamar, am sharing my journey to healing from thyroid cancer to start the conversation. The goal is to get more people to open up about what they are going through. Rather than suffer in silence, using your voice can start the healing process.Follow me on social media at:Facebook: Embracing The FightTwitter: @EmbracingFightInstagram: @_embracing_the_fight_TikTok: @embracingthefight
