Envy and greed – How much do you need?

Envy and greed – evil twins out to get you When I think about envy and greed, I can’t help but remember a uniquely special man. He wasn’t envious or greedy. But those evil twins ultimately killed him. And the thing about envy and greed is…they can’t even exist without a helpful host. They need a place to live, and that place is in the hearts of human beings. That’s where they plot and scheme. (If you prefer to listen rather than read, check out this episode of the The Power of God’s Love Podcast) Envy and greed don’t care who they take down. Back to that special man. In the eyes of envious and greedy people he did unforgivable things. Like telling everyone who would listen how important their life was. And would you believe he had the audacity to talk about how to love others?! And he even saved a bunch of lives. It’s true. Unbelievable that any man would dare to live that way. But there were men who didn’t like that unique man’s message. They didn’t appreciate how he started building a massive audience. He was even making what they said were outlandish claims. And they envied how he could back up those claims with action. In other words, he didn’t just talk the talk…he walked the walk. And, as a result, his enemies were so full of envy and greed they decided to have him silenced. Rubbed out. Snuffed. Killed. Think about it. This wasn’t a drug deal gone bad. In fact, this guy didn’t commit a single crime. Not one. Unless you consider his most outlandish claim of all a crime. “And what was that?” you ask. Well, he did claim to be God. But like I said, he backed up his claim. How? Remember how I said he saved a bunch of lives? Several of those were people who had already died. He brought them back to life. And he helped other people walk who had never walked before. He helped blind people see. And deaf people hear. What an awful guy…right? Here’s the point… Jesus was killed by the envy and greed in men’s hearts. Massive contempt was built up for a man who never committed a crime or a sin in His whole life. And they never stopped or even paused to think about how he was there to help and save them. All they could see was Jesus getting all the attention with His message. And so they ended up yelling, “Crucify him!” A few years back I wrote about how America is being pillaged by the green-eyed monster of envy. Time has passed, and I see the monster has grown. How? By gaining strength and power in the hearts of more and more men and women. Please, don’t be one of them. Envy and greed destroy your heart and eventually your only hope of happiness. Eternal life in Heaven with your Creator. America is still a free enough country you can totally disagree with me and we can go on about our lives. But are you willing to risk your potential eternal happiness for your worldview? I am. Here are the lyrics to the song shared in this The Power of God’s Love Podcast episode: The Pure Place I clamor for the clean life, and I never quite succeed I’m hunting for the high ground that’s higher than the sky And I’m looking for the love-life…the kind that we all need I’m wishing for the wonder that lives in my mind’s eye I want to find the Pure Place…that glitters like gold I need to find the Pure Place…never hot or cold I’d love to find the Pure Place… Let the Light shine on my face… No dreams I’d ever have to chase… No bad that we could not erase… I’d love to find…the Pure Place! I’m searching for the sanctity that I never do quite find I’m longing for the living days that never, ever end And I’m thinking so theatrically, but at least I use my mind To quest for the quintessence of my Forever Friend repeat chorus…inst…repeat chorus and end © 1998 Tony Funderburk Jump on the one-of-a-kind The TRUTH today. Relaxing music plays and the audience still stays

Relaxing Music – it ain’t just for sleepin’ The vast majority of the time I listen to music, these days, it’s on my iPhone using either my Apple music app or Pandora. While I do love some power-up music for fun, a lot of my listening is relaxing music. Either to go to sleep, or to get some work done. (If you prefer to listen, here’s the The Power of God’s Love Podcast episode 222) According to some studies, listening to classical music can actually increase your IQ…at least temporarily. Somebody came up with the clever term, Mozart effect. And a knucklehead politician in Georgia even came up with a knucklehead idea to propose a budget that made sure every kid in Georgia got a Mozart CD. Yeesh. Don’t get me wrong. I believe listening to classical music can do way better things for your brain than say…rap, metal, punk, hip-hop, etc. etc. etc. And nothing on pop music stations even remotely compares with the musical strength and emotion of even the most basic Beethoven composition. Nothing! That’s why I say… Relaxing music can be power music. These days, you don’t need to use grinding power chords or massive beats to set yourself apart from the crowd. In fact, doing just the opposite might be a much more successful strategy. I call it…going against the flow of the status quo. When everyone else is yelling and screaming, whisper. If everyone else is zigging, you zag. Every time everyone else turns left, you go right. And you won’t go wrong. So, tonight…when you normally play your favorite songs on your way home…or when you start some music as you’re making dinner…or whatever…try some relaxing music instead. I’m not sayin’ you gotta do this all the time. Just experiment. You might discover you like it so much that it might also work in your advertising. But what do I know? (I know it works, that’s what I know) By the way… Now, jump on the The TRUTH. And be part of the growing band of believers who wanna show the world that life has Rhyme and Reason because God is Real. Life is not fair – and it’s all your own fault

Life is not fair. And guess what… It’s all your fault. And mine. And the other people around the world. Even the ones who think their essence is what makes the world turn. Life is not fair because you live in a world we humans broke…a long time ago. Before you say it wasn’t you who ate the fruit from the wrong tree, I gotta say this. “You would have done the same thing!” You would have wanted to be your own king or queen or god. How do I know? I know you would have done the same thing Adam and Eve did because you have. Admit it. You’ve wanted everyone to realize you’re the cat’s meow…right? You’ve chosen to do things you know you shouldn’t have…right? And if you’re gonna be truly honest (I hope you will), you’ve made more bad decisions in your life than good. Can I get an amen? I’m right there with you dude…or dudette. Life’s not fair, and that’s not something that should ever hold you back. Keep working hard to be better than you’ve been. Say this with me, “I’m better than I was yesterday, but not as good as I’ll be tomorrow.” There. Don’t you feel better? And isn’t that all that matters? Feelings? NO! Your feelings will keep telling you life ain’t fair. And before you know it, you’ll give in to those knucklehead feelings and start to go back to those knucklehead bad decisions. But when you decide (and the power to decide is totally in you) to change bad feelings into better ones by using the logic and reason God gave you, your life will get at least a little more fair. Not perfect, but it WILL make sense. Then you’ll be more sensible. And being sensible (using wisdom and discernment) will take you down a road where fairness won’t matter a fraction as much as Truth. What do you think? Does your life seem unfair? Or isn’t it fairly decent after all? Not Fair You’re born to parents you don’t get to choose, And you just have to trust that they care. They pick your clothes and your food and your stuff, And you learn fast that life is not fair. As you grow up you discover some things About water and mountains and air. You think your big brain should earn you rewards, And you find out that life is not fair. One day you wake in a place of your own, Watch the news, and see pain everywhere. You decide you can’t ignore it away, And you’ll help because life is not fair. Then, when you serve others, you one day find A real joy that, before, wasn’t there. And living will glow in a whole new light Even though this old life isn’t fair. © 2017 Tony Funderburk Stay tuned, P.S.  Share the rhymes and reasons with your friends and family.
