They are described as two olive trees and two candlesticks, standing before the God of the earth. After three and a half days, the spirit of life from God enters the two witnesses. They stand on their feet, terrifying those who see them, and are then called up to heaven in a cloud. A great earthquake follows, destroying a tenth of the city and killing seven thousand people, causing the survivors to give glory to God. The chapter concludes with the sounding of the seventh trumpet, marking a turning point in Revelation. Loud voices in heaven proclaim: “The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.” (KJV) The twenty-four elders worship God, declaring that the time has come for judgment, reward for God’s servants, and the destruction of those who corrupt the earth.
