Spiritual Awareness Practices for Advent with Pam and Marcella

You are invited to experience this new season by participating in spiritual awareness practices! Please join host, Pam Robertson and Wisdom Teacher, Marcella Kraybill-Greggo!   These practices invite you to become more awake and aware of the ordinary moments of your everyday life. Join us for 4 conscious prayers: The Body Prayer, Full Prostration, Listening to Your Life, and Contemplating Your Child or Loved One.  The invitation is to sit quietly and allow this conscious work to enter into your everyday life. 1. BODY PRAYER PRACTICE: Notice what happens in you as you do this exercise along with Pam and Marcella.  2. FULL PROSTRATION Something that you can’t find in your mind—because it lives in your body!  3. LISTENING TO YOUR LIFE: Here we invite you to PAUSE in the middle of the day and listen to the sounds of your life. Notice the sounds that might be common like traffic, birds, and your refrigerator running. Now listen for sounds that you may not have noticed like your dog breathing down by your feet. Now see if you can open up your expanse by noticing the energy around you and in the world. See what you can access listening in on your life. Take a deep breath and then go about your day. The idea is to see if you can expand your awareness into your life. Breathing involves your body. As I slow down and exhale, notice how a deeper breath follows. 4. CONTEMPLATING YOUR CHILD OR LOVED ONE. A conscious work practice with Visio Divina - Visio is taking a picture or an image and being present with it, noticing what happens when you sit with it. Notice the wave of Love—a reminder of how deeply you are loved by God. Marcella says, “when you have a child you are gazing into the face of God—no matter what age they are.”   For more information: https://www.moravianseminary.edu/academics/certificate/spiritual-direction Music by Robert Long: [email protected] Learn more about Wisdom Waypoints here: www.wisdomwaypoints.org *This conversation originally aired on The Talking Joy Podcast with host Pam Rotelle Roberson www.talkingjoy.org

The Enneagram A Resource for Deepening Personal Growth

Join host Pam Robertson for a conversation about the Enneagram with teacher, Jeanine Siler-Jones. The enneagram can be a resource for deepening personal and spiritual growth. We are all born with a particular style. Enneagram teacher Jeanine Siler Jones helps us explore the value of this tool and how it can help cultivate compassion for ourselves and others. She touches on the 9 types as an introduction to this practice of self-discovery. These types are broken into triads- the centers of intelligence—head, heart and body. Our conversation highlights why we do what we do, what is the motivation and how we can gain a better understanding of ourselves and others. For the past thirty years, Jeanine has engaged in the Enneagram as a path to a deep connection with herself, others, and God. She has studied with Cynthia Bourgeault in her Wisdom Schools and has a daily contemplative practice.* For more information about Moravian Theological Seminary's Spiritual Direction Program: https://www.moravianseminary.edu/academics/certificate/spiritual-direction Music by Robert Long: [email protected] Siler Jones Counseling: https://silerjonescounseling.com *This conversation originally aired on The Talking Joy Podcast with host Pam Rotelle Roberson www.talkingjoy.org

Belonging and Belief with Rev. Dr. Sue Pizor Yoder

Join us for a conversation with Rev. Dr. Sue Pizor Yoder who leads Blank Slate, an emerging spiritual community in the Lehigh Valley, PA. Sue co-authored the book "Hear Us Out: Six Questions on Belonging and Belief" where they interviewed over 200 people under 40 in search of the lessons they might teach us about belonging, adversity, legacy - and faith. Sue explains the idea of "nones" — people who have no religious affiliation and "dones" people who once practiced religion but no longer do. Sue and her colleagues were surprised to find their conversation partners also wanted to talk about faith--even when they didn't identify with any religious tradition. The narratives these authors uncover offer both critique and blessing for society and the church. Join us as we explore the idea that while an increasing number of young people don't consider themselves religious, they may still consider themselves spiritual. #nones #dones #nonesanddones  For more information about Moravian Theological Seminary's Spiritual Direction Program: https://www.moravianseminary.edu/academics/certificate/spiritual-direction Music by Robert Long: [email protected] Blank Slate Community: https://blankslatecommunity.com/blank-slate-facilitator/

Russell Siler-Jones, Author of Spirit in Session: Working with Your Clients Spirituality (and Your Own)

Join hosts Pam and Marcella with author Russell Siler Jones for a conversation about his new book, Spirit in Session: Working with Your Client’s Spirituality (and Your Own) in Psychotherapy. Russell is a therapist in Asheville, NC. In this immensely practical book, Russell helps therapists, spiritual directors or anyone in the "helping" industry feel more competent and confident about having spiritual conversations with clients. With a refreshing, down-to-earth style, he describes how to recognize the diverse explicit and implicit ways spirituality can appear in psychotherapy, how to assess the impact spirituality is having on clients, how to make interventions to maximize its healthy impact and lessen its unhealthy impact, and how therapists can draw upon their own spirituality in ethical and skillful ways. He includes extended case studies and clinical dialogue so readers can hear how spirituality becomes part of case conceptualization and what spiritual conversation actually sounds like in psychotherapy. (This book is used in the Spiritual Direction Program at MTS)  For more information about Moravian Theological Seminary's Spiritual Direction Program: https://www.moravianseminary.edu/academics/certificate/spiritual-direction Music by Robert Long: [email protected] Russell Siler-Jones: https://silerjonescounseling.com/about-russell/

She is a Spiritual Director-Supervisor and teacher in the Spiritual Direction Program. Welcoming Practice from Cynthia Bourgeault's book, Centering Prayer And Inner Awakening. Jeanine says, “welcoming cultivates an inner hospitality in the body. It is an “on the go” practice where mediation meets life.” There are three parts; focus and sink in, welcome and letting go. This practice can help strengthen the nervous system as we are tracking and noticing sensation in the body, letting go after we have spent time welcoming and being with whatever arises during the mediation. Mind, Body and Heart- A core basic practice that invites us to get more skillful at knowing what it feels like to be present in all three centers: mind, body and heart.   Jeanine: https://silerjonescounseling.com/ For more information about Moravian Theological Seminary's Spiritual Direction Program: https://www.moravianseminary.edu/academics/certificate/spiritual-direction Music by Robert Long: [email protected]
