Summer In The Psalms: Finding Our Way To Prayer
Listen along as The Rev. Ashley Drake Mertz explores the depth of Psalm 52—a bold reflection on the misuse of power. Rather than a direct prayer to God, this psalm begins as a complaint against someone exploiting their position for personal gain.It captures the tension we often feel when trusting in God’s steadfast love while wrestling with anger and injustice. Through just nine verses, the psalmist shows how our complaints can become prayers, rooted in faithfulness to God’s love and justice.

Summer In The Psalms: Shade And Shelter
Listen along as The Rev. Dr. Robyn Michalove delivers a powerful message based on Psalm 91 which is a message of trust and divine protection. The psalm begins by describing those who dwell in the shelter of the Most High as being safe and secure under God’s care. It paints vivid images of God as a refuge, a fortress, and a deliverer—from dangers both seen and unseen.Throughout the psalm, there’s a sense of deep assurance: no terror of the night, no arrow by day, no plague or disaster can overcome those who trust in God. Angels are even commanded to guard and protect them. Toward the end, God speaks directly, promising rescue, honor, and long life to those who love and call on Him.Psalm 91 is a bold declaration of faith in God's nearness, protection, and unwavering presence in times of trouble.

Summer In The Psalms: Sovereign Significance
Listen along as The Rev. Dr. Robyn Michalove dives into Psalm 8. A song that praises how great God is and how amazing it is that God cares about people. It talks about how the sky, moon, and stars show God’s power—something far bigger than us. Even though people seem small compared to the universe, God still notices them and gives them an important role in taking care of the earth and animals. The psalm begins and ends by declaring how majestic God’s name is in all the earth.

Summer In The Psalms: When The Singing Stops...
Listen along as The Rev. Dr. Michael Waschevski teaches on Psalm 137.1-6 which is a lament expressing the sorrow of the Israelites during their exile in Babylon. As they sit by the rivers of Babylon, they weep when they remember Zion. Their captors mock them by asking for songs of joy, but the exiles refuse, feeling it would be inappropriate to sing the Lord’s songs in a foreign land. The psalmist passionately declares that if they ever forget Jerusalem, may they lose the ability to play music or speak, emphasizing their deep loyalty and longing for their homeland.Pslam 137.1-6: By the rivers of Babylon, There we sat down, yea, we wept When we remembered Zion. We hung our harps Upon the willows in the midst of it. For there those who carried us away captive asked of us a song, And those who plundered us requested mirth, Saying, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”How shall we sing the Lord’s song In a foreign land? If I forget you, O Jerusalem, Let my right hand forget its skill! If I do not remember you, Let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth— If I do not exalt Jerusalem Above my chief joy.

Summer In The Psalms: All In Together
Listen along as The Rev. Dr. Robyn Michalove offers insight into Psalm 95.1–7, which is a joyful invitation to worship and praise God. It calls the people to sing and shout to the Lord, who is described as the rock of salvation and the great King above all gods. The psalm celebrates God’s sovereignty over all creation—land and sea, mountains and depths. It urges the worshippers to bow down in reverence, recognizing that they are God’s people, the sheep of God's pasture, and that God is their caring shepherd. The passage emphasizes joyful reverence rooted in belonging and relationship with God.

Summer In The Psalms: Wholly, Holy Known
Listen along as The Rev. Dr. Robyn Michalove offers a profound reflection on Psalm 139.1–14, which describes the truth of being wholly known by God. The psalmist acknowledges that God sees and understands every part of them—their thoughts, words, actions, and even unspoken intentions—before they take shape. This intimate knowledge extends beyond physical location; no matter where the psalmist goes, God’s presence is already there. The psalmist is in awe of the God who not only surrounds them but also formed them with care and intention in the womb. Being "fearfully and wonderfully made" is tied to the comfort and awe of being fully seen, fully understood, and fully loved. The theme of being wholly known brings both humility and security, as the psalmist realizes they are never hidden from God’s gaze—from beginning to end.

Summer In The Psalms: Planted or Potted?
Listen along as The Rev. Dr. Josh Stewart teaches on Psalm 1 which contrasts the way of the righteous with the way of the wicked. It opens by declaring blessed those who do not follow the counsel of the wicked but delight in God's law, meditating on it day and night. Such people are like trees planted by streams of water—fruitful, resilient, and prosperous. In contrast, the wicked are like chaff blown away by the wind; they will not stand in judgment or belong to the community of the righteous. The psalm concludes by affirming that the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, while the way of the wicked leads to ruin. This psalm serves as a wisdom introduction to the entire Book of Psalms, highlighting the importance of choosing a life grounded in God’s instruction.

Trinity Sunday - June 15. 2025
Listen along as The Rev. Dr. Michael Waschevski teaches on John 3.1-10 which recounts a nighttime conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus, a Pharisee and member of the Jewish ruling council. Nicodemus acknowledges that Jesus must be from God because of the signs He performs. Jesus responds by teaching that no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are "born again" (or "born from above"). Confused, Nicodemus asks how someone can be born again when they are old. Jesus explains that this new birth is spiritual, not physical—being born of water and the Spirit. He rebukes Nicodemus for not understanding, especially as a teacher of Israel. The passage emphasizes the necessity of spiritual rebirth for salvation and understanding God's kingdom.
