    Fit Foot U; Medical Foods for Neuropathy And Bone Health

    Dr. Ben Pearl introduced Tony Burgett, a biochemistry and pharmacology expert, who discussed medical foods. Tony explained that medical foods are designed to treat a nutritional deficiency or requirement associated with a medical condition, as opposed to supplements, which are intended to supplement the diet to meet recommended daily allowances. He also discussed the manufacturing, labeling, and dispensing requirements for medical foods, emphasizing the importance of quality control. Ben and Tony discussed the benefits of treating pain topically and the potential of medical foods to treat nutritional deficiencies and promote natural healing processes. They also touched upon the significance of homocysteine levels in relation to neuropathy and endothelial dysfunction and the benefits of combining various active ingredients in medical foods. They concluded the discussion by touching on the potential risks of taking too much of certain supplements and the importance of a comprehensive product for managing nutritional deficiencies associated with bone health. Tony also shared his personal experience with modifying his exercise and diet regimen based on genetic inheritance, and the benefits of getting his testosterone levels checked and supplemented.

    Dr. Ben Pearl and Dr. Howard Danenberg discussed their perspectives on gait analysis and the importance of the sagittal plane in walking. Dr. Danenberg emphasized that the side view was crucial for understanding the vast majority of what happens during walking, including the effect of feet on head and neck position, shoulder position, and hip extension. They also touched upon the influence of the long bar and foot orthotics on walking. First Ray Mechanism and Kinetic Wedges Howard explained the mechanism of the first ray resisting dorsiflexion and how peroneal inhibition can lead to issues such as functional hallux limitus and osteoarthritis. He shared a case of a woman with 40 years of anterrorlateral leg pain who was able to compensate for the issue by using a particular muscle movement. This led to Howard's invention, a kinetic wedge, which was implemented in Brooks running shoes and was based on the idea that the first Mtp. during dorsiflexion became very important
