They Move
Soundtrack for the Conspiracy 64k intro "Empires"; download at https://conspiracy.hu/release/64k/empires/ Struggled with this one for a bit - new synth and general ennui, mostly, but in the end I guess it ended up sounding like Burial Based Lifeforms.

...Now You Don't
Winner of the Revision 2022 Executable Music competition; download original version at https://files.scene.org/view/parties/2022/revision22/executable-music/gargaj_-_now_you_dont.zip This was a massive struggle due to, well, 2 years of pandemic fatigue and general lack of inspiration, energy, etc., and initially I threw this track out because I didn't think it worked - turns out it just needed a bit of force. Not 100% happy with the mix but I think it turned out pretty cool. Big up to https://soundcloud.com/higher_than_dnb for creative support, https://soundcloud.com/gloom for some engineering oversight and https://soundcloud.com/evan-gamble-lewis for inspiration

Three Steps Back
Soundtrack for the Conspiracy 64k intro "Clean Slate" (https://conspiracy.hu/release/64k/clean_slate/), eventual winner of both the 64k Intro Competition and the Party Favorite prize at the Revision 2021 online demoparty. Download at http://gargaj.umlaut.hu/music/Gargaj_-_Three_Steps_Back.flac This was initially really tough - throwing ideas around we really wanted to make something with a straight beat, mellow techno stuff (we were all inspired by https://soundcloud.com/jonhopkins at the time), but it just... wasn't coming together, and the visual concept changed over time, so on a whim I took all the instruments, swapped the beat out and boom, it clicked. Obviously https://soundcloud.com/h0ffman influenced cos I'm not letting him win a soundtrack award with a 64k tune again.

Zero Sum Game
Dark cinematic breaks for the Revision 2020 (Online) executable music competition. Download at http://gargaj.umlaut.hu/music/gargaj_-_zero_sum_game.zip - re-experience at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/589941975?t=2h22m45s Started pretty late on this one, had many false starts, couldn't decide on a few things, but then I ended up just rolling a bunch of false starts into one song and it worked. Not too happy with the ending though. Massive big up to soundcloud.com/futurefunksquad and https://soundcloud.com/matt-bowdler-music for inspiration.

Case In Point
Winner of the Revision 2019 executable music compo; download at http://gargaj.umlaut.hu/music/gargaj_-_case_in_point.zip and probably one of my favourite tracks I've done. reLive at http://relive.nu/reLove/#track-1-EH-X8 or https://www.twitch.tv/videos/414283849?t=0h49m1s Had the beat lying around for a few years now as this originally started as an intro soundtrack that never happened, and when we postponed our intro from Revision I decided to dust it off and re-imagine it; it kinda ended up as a tribute / throwback / "wish-there-was-more-of-this" to that era of breaks that no longer seems to exist anymore - big up https://soundcloud.com/hybridscores and https://soundcloud.com/adamfreeland as usual - and I'm really happy that I was able to do it.

Purge (Cinematic Trip-hop edit)
Soundtrack for the breakdown reel for "When Silence Dims The Stars Above" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Q0Y5zCGUQ4) ; a remix of https://soundcloud.com/gargaj/purge When Zoom suggested the idea of doing a breakdown reel, I figured we could either use the original track (which wouldn't have fit), some other track (which is kinda lame), or I can take a crack at doing a remix, which is something I really enjoy doing; I figured since most breakdown reels tend to have music with this kind of downtempo contemplative vibe, I went with this direction and it turned into a lot of fun. (Yes I considered calling it Animatrix edit, shut up.) Downloads at: http://gargaj.umlaut.hu/music/Gargaj_-_Purge_%28cinematic_triphop_edit%29.mp3 http://gargaj.umlaut.hu/music/Gargaj_-_Purge_%28cinematic_triphop_edit%29.flac

Purge
Soundtrack for the Conspiracy 64k intro "When Silence Dims The Stars Above" (http://conspiracy.hu/release/64k/when_silence_dims_the_stars_above/) I was deathly afraid of this one, it just seemed like a massive undertaking that I wasn't qualified for or didn't have the technology developed for; I'm not entirely sure how close it got to what I intended it to be, but it is what it is. Big up to https://soundcloud.com/hybridscores and https://soundcloud.com/hanszimmer Download at http://gargaj.umlaut.hu/music/Gargaj_-_Purge.mp3

Through My Veins
Soundtrack for the Conspiracy 64k intro "Vessel" - http://conspiracy.hu/release/64k/vessel/ I was so incredibly nervous about this; doing "emotionally charged" music on cue was something that I felt was way out of my comfort zone, and I wasn't sure if I was up to the task - I especially struggled with the first part, which I felt was the most important. In the end, I think that fear permeated the music itself, and I was able to draw on experiences I lived through or witnessed to deliver this, turning all of how and what I felt like into what ultimately became the song. Influence-wise, I decided early on that I wanted to take the minimalism of Vector Lovers and somehow merge it with the soaring energy of post-rock (like 65daysofstatic), with the mid-section being heavily influenced by - oddly - Nine Inch Nails, The Lion King and Shadow Gallery. If none of this makes sense to you, I can assure you that it didn't make sense to me either until the track started taking shape, but I somehow instinctively knew where to look when I needed certain elements. In the end, I think the music ultimately ended up carrying a lot of the intro on its back, and it might eventually become one of the favorite pieces of music I ever did. Unintended Consequence
Soundtrack for the Conspiracy intro "Universal Sequence" (http://conspiracy.hu/release/64k/universal_sequence/), a sequel to 2006's Chaos Theory. Download at: http://conspiracy.hu/files/Gargaj_-_Unintended_Consequence_-_Universal_Sequence_soundtrack.mp3 http://gargaj.umlaut.hu/music/Gargaj_-_Unintended_Consequence.flac This one was super scary to do, to do a continuation to one of the most popular tracks I've ever made, but over the years there were so many ideas where I felt we could improve on the original that in the end it turned into a great great thrillride. Keeping it a secret though... not so fun ;) Huge huge huge thanks to https://soundcloud.com/blacksunempire, https://soundcloud.com/noisia, https://soundcloud.com/lowroller and https://soundcloud.com/mickgordon for the infinite inspiration they provided from their work - it's easy to do good work when that's what you see/hear all around you. Impending
Audio/soundscape for the Conspiracy 64k intro "Darkness Lay Your Eyes Upon Me": http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=67106 Additional sound design by Zoom who at one point said "Just pull the LFOs all the way up" and it sounded cool. We decided early on as to what we want the intro to sound like, and it allowed me to experiment a bit with techniques I wanted to try anyway - they ultimately were a bit of a failure, but they did prove certain aspects I was hoping them to prove. Due to the odd nature of the audio, engineering the final mix was an absolute pain, but I'm quite happy with the end result. Obvious tip of the hat goes to the genius of https://soundcloud.com/lustmord but also to https://soundcloud.com/phobium and https://soundcloud.com/noisia who both served as a great inspiration for this. Onwards Fading Future
Soundtrack for the Conspiracy 64k "Offscreen Colonies" available at http://conspiracy.hu/release/64k/offscreen_colonies/ This was done in a very short time but it was all the more fun and challenge to work on this - the brief was "slightly retro, uplifting, slowish", so I tried to make it sound like a bit of an 80s sci-fi movie endscroller track. Despite some serious micromanagement to fit the future visuals, I'm very very happy with the end result. Inspiration credits go to https://soundcloud.com/sinister-souls and of course https://soundcloud.com/hybridsoundsystem Download available from http://gargaj.umlaut.hu/music/Gargaj_-_Onwards_Fading_Future.mp3 http://gargaj.umlaut.hu/music/Gargaj_-_Onwards_Fading_Future.flac Excerpts from the Conspiracy Micromanagement Council minutes: [10:50:01] BoyC: az 54. mp-ben van 3 hang ami egymas utan emelkedik, abbol a harmadik az nem kene, akar ki is veheted sztem [10:50:46] BoyC: a lead 12. hangja ha jol szamolom [12:03:28] Zoom: sztem az a keccermondmindent is hozzaad a mintankban a meltosagteljesseghez [12:03:49] Gargaj / Conspiracy: na ezt a mondatot most nem ertettem :) [12:03:58] BoyC: ense [12:20:59] Zoom: ez javulo tendencia ja de meg mindig tul dallamosnak erzem [12:21:13] Gargaj / Conspiracy: szerintem megin nem a megfelelo szot hasznaltad :) [12:21:19] Zoom: lehet :)

Dissipate
Blimey, I make a lot of ambient, don't I? Actually this track was made years ago for Kusma as a replacement for https://soundcloud.com/gargaj/rude-munch-sauce which he thought didn't fit his effects. The intro never ended up happening, and I shelved the track, until recently: http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=64170

Pressure Pattern
Soundtrack for the Conspiracy 64k "Supermode": http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=62848 In all honesty, I feel weird about this one. There's nothing WRONG with it per se, but it feels a bit... unexciting. In the end it served the purpose though so I guess that's something. Composite
Soundtrack for the Ümlaüt Design 64k "Concord": http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=62194 I actually really like this one. The intro itself is fully procedural and I wanted to do some tweaks so that the music would change every time you run the intro, but it just never happened. Maybe some other time.

Necrophone - Az Apokalipszis Kannibáljai (Gargaj remix)
A fun-remix-turned-serious I did for some friends over at Necrophone. Not exactly the kind of stuff I'd normally make, but hey, I guess I was listening to too much Suicide Commando at the time. Get the full album at https://necrophone.bandcamp.com/album/hal-lh-rg-s

colorStar - Falling (Gargaj remix)
The remix that won the colorStar remix contest in early 2011, and was subsequently released on the remix CD "Komplementer". Still one of my favorite pieces I've done; as usual a bunch of stories with this one too. I think I was very lucky in many ways when this came about: some people went as far as predicting that this would open a new career for me, but life just went on I suppose. (Not that I'm complaining.) Note: this is not the exact same as the album version, which was re-mastered - this is the original mix/master.

The Break Goes On
Executable music entry for Revision 2011, which it eventually won. About 27k including everything, most of it being the movie sample which you probably can't make out unfortunately. This track was a tricky one to do - I had to go against a lot of my preconceptions of how or why should I make music, and ultimately a lot of the credit must go to http://soundcloud.com/dshmusic for reassuring me in the last minute that I really should just follow my instinct and go ahead with whatever I feel like adding to the tune, instead of being held back by preconceived ideas. All in all I think this is one of my favorite tracks of what I've done. Download at http://gargaj.umlaut.hu/music/gargaj-thebreakgoeson.zip reLive version at http://relive.nu/onsite/track-1-2j-cz

Locomotion
Full / extended version of the soundtrack for the Assembly 2010 64k intro by Portal Process called "X Marks the Spot", invitation for the Function-X party. (http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=55546) Download at http://gargaj.umlaut.hu/music/Gargaj__Locomotion.ogg Made in a rather short timeframe, but pretty satisfied with the end result. No, I don't know why it ended up being so retro.

Rude Munch Sauce
"Not bad for a rejected tune!" - Kusma "This doesn't sound like you at all." - Puryx "faeeen Gargaj, skikkelig rævhøl synth asså, men bare vent!" - Rloaderro Headnod stuff for the Solskogen 2010 16k executable music compo (which it eventually won), originally intended for a 64k but oh well. Willbe - Wicked Cabaret Posse (KLUKked up remix)
Bootleg remix of the amazing soundtrack (http://willbe.bandcamp.com/track/wicked-cabaret-posse) for Sandbox Punks (http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=33109) by Willbe Made under the heavy influence of edIT + The Glitch Mob, and apparently the Muppets. The track, contrary to what people might assume, contains no GlitchVST, only ~600 edits by hand.

Reed - Meet the Family (Psychotic Monkey remix)
Remix of Reed's 64k tune for "Meet the Family" ( http://reed.cc/music/meet_the_family/ ) Entered to the Bitjam Remix Compo #1 - no placing cos, well, it didnt end nice: http://www.bitfellas.org/page.php?181 Download at http://gargaj.umlaut.hu/music/Reed_-_Meet_the_Family_%28Psychotic_Monkey_remix%29_%5Blaced_with_acid_by_Gargaj%5D.ogg I suppose the idea here was that I was listening to a lot of Infected Mushroom / 1200 Mics / Analog Pussy, so I thought, "A track with guitars? Psytrance!", and ultimately I suppose it worked out. Also holds the specific distinction of being the first (and only) tune approved by Nagz to be "perfectly mixed". (Although I'm sure that in hindsight he will deny saying that.)

Boráros tér 923.
Soundtrack for the Still 64k "Invoke" (https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=50135) Download at http://gargaj.umlaut.hu/music/Gargaj__Boraros_ter_923.ogg The title is a reference to a square in Budapest where I used to wait at 1-2AM for the night bus (number 923) to arrive quite often during the period I was writing the tune. The bus only came every hour so I would need to spend that period sitting in a bus stop. The square itself, as many others, is populated with homeless people, kebab stands, slightly irredentist drinking establishments and dirt, but what made it admirable for me is how "organic" it was - it felt it wasn't prone to trouble, everyone knew the way and routine, and it all evolved into a system. The track is one of the first 64k tracks to use "glitch" i.e. granular editing. A huge chunk of influence belongs to edIT's amazing first album (http://soundcloud.com/edit/sets/crying-over-pros-for-no-reason). Also, if you think the melody reminds you of The Birthday Massacre, you are very correct.

Grimesphere
Soundtrack for the Ümlaüt Design 64k "Träsh" Download at http://gargaj.umlaut.hu/music/Gargaj__Grimesphere.ogg This track came about when one day I was wondering if we should make a 64k intro and what the concept would be. Eventually I remembered that back in 2003, TGD made a parody of our naming scheme, joking that our next intro would be called "Träsh". Since I thought it's a good name, I began to think about what kind of design would fit, and eventually narrowed it down to "grimy, dirty, sewer-style". I'm not sure what the influence was the music for, I'm pretty sure the feel for the beat came from the Prodigy remix of "Release Yo Delf", and the glitchy editing was just something I always enjoyed (BT, Tipper, Infected Mushroom...). I believe this was in fact the first 64k intro ever to do that.

Rude Awakening
Soundtrack for Chaos Theory (http://chaostheory.conspiracy.hu), a 64k intro by Conspiracy Download MP3 at https://conspiracy.hu/files/music/Gargaj_-_Rude_Awakening_-_Chaos_Theory_soundtrack.mp3 Additional downloads at http://conspiracy.hu/release/64k/chaos_theory Listen to the sequel at https://soundcloud.com/gargaj/unintended-consequence Bassline tutorial available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbEY04Ucc-k So I just realized I never actually wrote an editorial here so here goes: This particular track was pretty much done as a reaction - we released our intro "Memento" in early 2006 and the reaction wasn't stellar. People hated the synth and the music, which was a bit heartbreaking because it was my first job working on a 64k soundtrack for Conspiracy - I was angry and hurt. At the same time, at the same party, I entered a ~1800 byte exemusic entry called "Demise" which was very much a proof of concept of doing these huge basslines in small sizes. When we started working on Chaos Theory, I was very much driven by my recent introduction to https://soundcloud.com/blacksunempire/ - the influence was pretty tangible. At the same time I meshed influences from mainstyle hardcore I was getting into (https://soundcloud.com/djthaplayah/tha-playah-fuck-tha-fame by https://soundcloud.com/djthaplayah/ just came out at the time), and for some reason I felt a strong influence by Dream Theater at the time too, which I can't explain. The response to this track was absolutely overwhelming, and to this day I'm not entirely sure what resonated with people or why, but I'm glad that it did. "Nem ártott volna, ha egy _zenész_ csinálja." -nagz

Little Bitchard & Mel Funktion - Variform (Surface mix)
A track I made for "Variform remixed" - get the entire compilation at http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=20435 Mastered by LB. (http://soundcloud.com/el-bee) I originally wanted to make a faster, drum-and-bass-y version, but that just didn't work out - at one point I accidentally dropped the tempo to half and I liked the groove enough to finish it that way. There are a couple of weird samples in there which might need explanation: Variform, as it is known, is heavily influenced by Imatran Voima's track "In/Out", which I decided to sample back into the a Variform remix, just to back-reference the original.
