    Christian Allies | Truth Matters

In this episode we are discussing the importance of aligning ourselves with those who practice and teach what the Scriptures say. Sometimes we make friendships with other God-fearing people and even consider them to be allies in the faith. However, we need to be careful that whoever we consider a brother or sister, is actually following what Jesus said. Especially in regard to salvation and how we obtain it. What does the Bible say about those who are God-fearing, but have not chosen to follow Christ fully yet? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Friendship Evangelism | Is it in the Bible?

In this episode we are discussing a popular evangelism tactic that some are relying on to spread their faith in Christ. This strategy referred to as “friendship evangelism” is the thought that we ought to first become close friends with someone before we share the gospel with them. Is this idea found in the Bible? Is this how the apostles and early church were evangelizing? Or is it possible we have developed this habit out of a fear to open our mouths and speak the good news? Hosted on Acast. Fasting | Is it a Command?

In this episode we are talking about the discipline of fasting. This practice is discussed and seen all over the Old Testament as well as New Testament. While it is certainly the case that fasting was commanded as it was associated with feasts in the old covenant, does Jesus command that we ought to be fasting on a regular basis today? And if I were to choose to fast, what is the purpose of it and how can I do it in a way that it accomplishes something? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

    Bodily Resurrection | 1 Corinthians 15

In this episode we are in 1 Corinthians 15. Many people either deny or don’t know what the Bible says about Resurrection Day. Some assume that it would only be our souls that are raised when Jesus comes back, but here in 1 Corinthians Paul makes it clear that it is actually our body that is raised. What does that mean for me now while I am still breathing? How does this teaching change my perspective on life? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

    Selective Listening | Jeremiah 42-43

In this episode we are taking our lesson from Jeremiah 42-43. In these days the typically hard-hearted people inquire of the Lord through the prophet Jeremiah. However, when they hear exactly what it is that God wants them to do, they are less than enthused to obey. Are we ever like that? Do we act like we are excited to hear a message from the Lord, but when push comes to shove we hesitate to do what God said? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

    The Bible & Archaeology | Isaiah 13

In this episode we are using an excerpt from Isaiah 13 to talk about the trustworthiness of the Bible. Many people believe it is just an ancient book with random sayings. However, in instances like the one we will be talking about today, we learn that archeological findings support what the Bible had said all along. Especially when it concerns the destruction of a city and the remnants that have been left behind.  Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

    Frightened & Friendless | Mark 14:43-52

In this episode we are looking at the events surrounding Jesus’ arrest that leads to his death. Many around Jesus on that night become so frightened that they leave Jesus friendless and alone. When others threaten or mistreat me because of my association with Jesus how do I respond? Am I bold enough to stand by Jesus’ side? Or do I run away in embarrassment and fear? Hosted on Acast. Grumbling & Complaining | Numbers 21

In this episode we are looking at the Israelites in Numbers 21. In this chapter we see the impatience, frustration, and general angst that the children of Israel are feeling toward God while they wander in the wilderness. To no surprise, their unhappiness is seen in their complaints that they level against God. How do we compare to that generation of Israelites? Do we complain just as much and fail to show gratitude to God who provides so abundantly for us? Or are we thankful people who stop and give thanks in all things? Hosted on Acast. Humble Speech and Actions | Exodus 18

In this episode we are looking at 2 men that display their humility in both action and words. In Exodus 18 we see a reunion between Moses and his father-in-law Jethro. On multiple occasions we see them give God the credit he deserves when Israel succeeds, as well as we see them open to correction and feedback from God and others. Are we as humble as these men when it comes to our success, and as open to criticism when we are failing? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  10. 134

Shut the Temple Doors | Malachi 1

In this episode we are looking at Malachi 1. In this chapter God informs the priests and people that their worship is utterly useless to him. So much so that he tells them to just shut the doors to the temple. What were the people doing that warranted God to say this? And is my heart and worship so far removed from what God wants that he would say the same thing to me today? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  11. 133

False Teachers Among You | 2 Peter 2

In this episode we are exploring a scathing rebuke that the apostle Peter issues against false teachers. This section and others like it might be some of the more overlooked sections of the Bible. When we live in a Christian culture that believes any so-called “teacher” or “preacher” is correct no matter what they say, we need this reminder from Peter that not all teachers have good motives. What is my responsibility when it comes to calling out false teachers? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Cry Out to God | Psalm 142

In this episode we are in Psalm 142. In this prayer David teaches us how to be completely open and seen by God. Especially when we feel alone and there is no one else we can turn to. Through David’s example it forces us to ask ourselves a few questions. Do I open up to God completely and fully when I am overwhelmed? Do I seek comfort in things that won’t help me? And what should I do the next time I am surrounded by doubts and fears? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  13. 131

    Hardened Necks | Jeremiah 26

In this episode we are in Jeremiah 26.In this story, God’s prophet Jeremiah is instructed to deliver a hard message to God’s people in Jerusalem. However, they were not thrilled to hear the message from the Lord. How do we respond when we hear something from God’s word that is difficult to hear? Do we dismiss it? Or are we the kind of people that humble ourselves and repent? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

In the World but not of the World | Is it Possible?

In this episode we explore the idea from Jesus’ prayer in John 17 that his disciples remain in the world, but not be of the world. Thankfully, we have many examples in Scripture of godly people who showed us how to do this. Among those examples we will explore are Daniel and his 3 friends. What does it take to be in the world but not of the world? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

The Example of Tyre | Who is in Control?

In this episode we take a look at a city named Tyre. This biblical city located off of the coast of the Mediterranean Sea had judgment proclaimed on it in an interesting way. It took a few different world powers to bring about its destruction, but to no surprise, we see God’s hand over the whole thing. What can we learn from Biblical prophecies such as this? And do I really see that the same God is just as in control now as he was then? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  16. 128

Judges 9 | Parable of the Bramble

In this episode we are taking a look at often forgot story about a man named Abimelech, found in Judges 9. In this story this man tries to take on the role of a king over the people. However, there is a wise warning that comes from Abimelech’s brother, Jotham, about what it would look like if Abimelech became king. Through this story we learn what happens when someone out of selfishness decides to exalt themselves. We are left asking the question: am I the kind of person who humbly serves, or do I seek positions of authority that don’t belong to me? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

John 15 | Loving Like Jesus

In this episode we are looking at something Jesus said to his disciples in John 15. This final moment for Jesus and His disciples shows us what Christ’s expectation for us is when he leaves the earth. His encouragement had one central theme: Love. How we love our brethren can and will show Jesus how dedicated we are to following him. We are also taught to place our love for God and His people far above our love for self. Am I someone that loves the way that Jesus did? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Standing Alone | When Faith Feels Isolating

In this episode we look at various examples in Scripture of people who stood firm in their faith, even though they felt alone. What we will learn is that often when we feel that loneliness, there are others we don’t know about. But in that isolation, I can learn a lot about myself and my level of commitment to God. Will I succumb to pity parties and self-loathing in these dark moments? Or will I learn to trust God more and lean on him for strength? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  19. 125

3 Faithful Men | Noah, Daniel, & Job

In this episode we are in Ezekiel 14 where 3 faithful men are used as an example for a faithless generation. Through these men’s lives we see how dedicated they were to saving others that were with them in situations where suffering was inevitable. What can I learn from them? And how can I imitate their faith and save others in my own generation? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  20. 124

    Luke 15:1-10 | A Sinner’s Worth

In this episode we are looking at 2 parables Jesus tells in Luke 15. These teachings were prompted by the Pharisee’s shock that Jesus would receive sinners. Through the story, Jesus challenges us to realize how much love and concern someone must have if they want to save a soul. But even deeper, we learn how God values a soul straying into darkness. What is my attitude toward those that are not saved? And how do I develop a heart of compassion that matches the Lords? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  21. 123

Colossians 4 | Devoted in Prayer & Personal Greetings

In this episode we finish the book of Colossians and talk through the 4th chapter. Paul calls our attention to the devotion it takes to be a person of prayer. But then also demonstrates how close he was with many of the Colossian brethren despite having never been there. Am I as devoted in prayer as I ought to be, and do I form close bonds with other brethren in a spiritual and meaningful way? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  22. 122

Colossians 3 | Christ is All and in All

In this episode we continue in the book of Colossians, as we pick up in chapter 3 we will discuss what it means for the word of Christ to dwell inside of us. In order for that to happen, there are certain habits and attitudes I need to leave behind since I have put off the old man. Only once that has happened can Christ work in me to grow into the new creature that is renewed according to the image of my creator. Am I willing to allow this transformation to take place? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  23. 121

Colossians 2 | Conviction of the Truth

In this episode we continue in the book of Colossians, specifically picking up in chapter 2. In this text Paul calls on Christians to find their fulfillment inside of the fullness of Christ. There is a real temptation to go to worldly philosophy and fleshly practices to promote spiritual growth, but here Paul condemns it. What earthly things am I turning to that actually distract me from growing closer to God? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  24. 120

Colossians 1 | The Power of God in Christ and His Church

In this episode we begin working through Paul’s letter to the Colossians. In this opening chapter we see Paul pray about God’s power that is at work in these brethren. This power was also displayed through Jesus Christ and his redemptive work on the cross. Do my prayers match the depth of Paul’s prayers, and do I strive to let God’s power through Jesus to change me into a mature disciple? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Salvation | What Must I Do?

In this episode we draw on the examples from the previous 3 podcasts to answer a crucial question: what must I do to be saved? Many people and Bible teachers will give varied answers to this question. Some include steps that others do not include. But what does the Bible say? What conditions must I meet if I want to have my sins forgiven?  Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

In chapters 10-11 we are introduced to a Gentile man named Cornelius who feared God and sought to know him. When the apostle Peter was sent to preach to him, it started a change in the Lord’s church that made it evident that all men, including Gentiles, are welcome to enter the body of Christ. What does this message of salvation mean for me? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ezekiel’s Commission | Who Should I Preach To?

In this episode we are in the first few chapters of the book of Ezekiel. While the children of Israel are exiled in Babylon, Ezekiel is called by God to go and preach to his fellow man and is informed that they will not want to listen to what he has to say. Why would God send someone to people who refuse to hear? And what does God expect of me and my preaching today? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

In this episode we finish our 4 part series from the sermon on the Mount found in Matthew 5-7. In this final section we hear Jesus admonish us to make a choice. Will we choose to listen to him and follow what he says, or will we be like a fool who hears him, but disregards everything he has said? How can I be better about following through with the teachings of Jesus even when they are hard to apply? And do I marvel at Jesus’ teaching the way that I am supposed to? Hosted on Acast. Psalm 44 | Learning How to Talk to God

In this episode we will be in Psalm 44. In this psalm from the sons of Korah we learn that there really isn’t anything we cannot talk to God about in prayer. However, how often are we shallow in our prayers and reserve our real questions and concerns when we are talking to God? How can I be better about opening my heart to God and accepting his answers even when it isn’t what I want to hear? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  40. 104

Book of Enoch | Should it be in the Bible?

In this episode we are discussing a common issue surrounding what books should or should not be included in the Bible. While it is undeniable that there is a quotation from the “Book of Enoch” found in the New Testament book of Jude, does this have to mean that the Book of Enoch is also inspired and therefore should be included in the Bible? Or is there another way of looking at this? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  41. 103

Psalm 73 | What About the Wicked?

In this episode we will be in Psalm 73. This psalm written by Asaph brings out a question many of us have asked at some point or another: How is it that the wicked prosper when they are clearly doing what displeases the Lord? Colossians 2 | Persuasive Arguments but Not Truth

In this episode we are going to be in Colossians 2. In this chapter Paul makes us think through how to deal with arguments that may sound reasonable, but are not grounded in the truth. When we are faced with similar teachings, we also are easily tempted to be swayed by how good the arguments sound. But how can we be better about filtering out the false teaching, and sticking to what we know God has taught us? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  43. 101

Apostle’s Commission | The Motives for Preaching

In this episode we are taking a look at various passages that help us wrap our head around what the purpose of preaching is, and what the motives behind it should be. In today’s culture men and women are looking to serve up the gospel in appealing ways, sometimes even to the detriment of the truth itself. But what was God’s intent for those who spoke His Word? And what should be the motivation for those who preach God’s truth? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Widow’s Mite | Keep it in Context

In this episode we are looking deeper at a well known story where a widow gives her only 2 pennies to the temple treasury. This story is often cited to encourage giving out of poverty and how Jesus commends actions like this. However, is it possible when considering the surrounding context that this story serves a different purpose? And is it possible that when we isolate stories and passages, that we miss the point that the text is trying to make? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  45. 99

    Ezra’s Prayer | Heart-felt Confession

In this episode we are looking at a powerful prayer found in the book of Ezra. When it comes to our own prayers we struggle to be as open-hearted and honest with God as we should be. Extra Bible Books | Only 66?

Meat Sacrificed to Idols | Is it Okay?

In this episode we are talking about the New Testament’s teaching concerning meat sacrificed to idols. Many believe Paul is arguing that this is permissible, however, other parts of the New Testament make it clear that it is condemned. What did Paul mean when he talked about this in 1 Corinthians? Is Paul mistaken? Or are we not seeing his full argument in the grand scope of 1 Corinthians? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  48. 96

In this episode we are talking about the unique roles and responsibilities of Jesus’s collective church, and the work an individual does. Despite his suffering, Job maintains his integrity. Even in the face of some unhelpful friends named Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar. Although this book is found in the pages of the Old Testament, we are able to see glimpses of Jesus throughout it. How does Job foreshadow the character and work of Jesus? Hosted on Acast. These groups of men were given authority by Jesus to go out and not only preach, but also to cast out demons. Upon their return, Jesus will discuss what impact their preaching had on Satan, and proceeds to give glory to God. Do we understand the impact our preaching has today, and do we have attitudes that will turn around and praise the one who sent us? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
