Golden Gate Church of God in Christ's Joshua Allen wins “So you think that you can dance” Season 4 finale.
Supt Johnny and Misssionary Bobbie Castleberry are very proud Joshua Allen. Joshua took home $250,000 and the title of America’s Favorite Dancer on Thursday night during the Season 4 finale of the reality show competition So You Think You Can Dance. This young man grew up in the Stop Six Community of Fort Worth. As a matter of fact Supt Castleberry showed his loved for Joshua in a mighty mighty way. Joshua was picked up in limosine and a full escort by the Dallas Co. Constables and Tarrant County Constables that to Constable Chet Luckett and Constable Berrick Evans. Many doors have been opened for Joshua he will also be a part of an upcoming movie and go on tour this fall on Sept 20th in Tacoma Washington. The tour will hit the metroplex on October 10th at Nokia Theater in Grand Prairie, Texas. Joshua, who performed consistently well in different types of dance, seemed overwhelmed to hear that he had won. With tears in his eyes, he said: "Never let anybody tell You you can’t . You can always go for it. The sky is the limit." . . do anything”. Let’s take a look back on the road, which lead him to victory. Joshua and his mother Lisa Allen travel to the auditions. The self-proclaimed hip-hop dancer caught the eye of Debbie Allen at local auditions for Pepito’s Story when he was in elementary school (he was a frog in the 1998 Bass Hall production). For So You Think You Can Dance, Joshua auditioned in Dallas, made it to the semifinals in Las Vegas and was chosen as one of the 20 finalists who would appear on the TV show. He started street dancing as a child, taking over the sidelines during pee wee league football games, showcasing his Michael Jackson moves to the crowds. He paid for dance lessons by earning scholarships to intensive workshops and from the Fort Worth Ballet, and by doing chores around the studio. He taught classes for free at Bedford’s Rhythm Nation Studio in exchange for other classes. Joshua was selected and the entire Allen Family was celebrating Joshua’s performance from the audition when a tragedy occurs in Burleson. Joshua’s cousin Danny “Bucket” Allen was killed over an iPod at a friend’s home. “Bucket “was Joshua’s biggest fan along with their grandparents Margie and Lorenza Allen, who live in the Stop Six area of Fort Worth. The family attended Golden Gate Church of God in Christ where his father serves as an Elder and his mother is a Missionary & Sunday School teacher. Danny Sr. and Eva Allen were very proud of “Bucket” and knew that God had blessed them with a great son. They also knew that Joshua had to make an important decision on his career. He had participated in various dance events in the DFW area, including Holiday in the Park, an event held at Six Flags over Texas. However, this show was going to take him to another level. Joshua had decided to cancel his trip Hollywood and attend the funeral with family. But the Allen Family knew that if “Bucket” were alive he would say, “Go Joshua Go Joshua”. So Joshua wrote a poem about his cousin that was shared at the homegoing celebration. Joshua said that he would dedicate his performance in memory of “Bucket”. Each week Joshua consistently wowed the judges— and the audience — with his ability to move easily between styles and remain graceful even with his athletic body structure. He garnered nearly universal positive praise. Audrey Allen Crawford says “The entire family is very excited about Joshua’s win on the reality show, So You Think You Can Dance. All of his hard work has paid off and he will be a great success. We will miss him greatly but we know he is doing something that he really loves. Looking at him perform as a child and all the courage that he exhibit while performing, we as a family knew then that he would make it big one day. Hard work and endurance does pay off”. Crawford continues, “With the tragic death of my nephew prior to the beginning of this show brought a great cloud over the family. We really did not know how we would make it. With the help of God we are still struggling with it. I really believe that Danny (Bucket) is rejoicing at Joshua’s win because he loved to see him dance and did the rest of the family. In a letter to Bucket, Joshua wrote letting him know that he would be dancing for him as well as the rest of the world. Joshua’s win has brought a great deal of sunshine to the Allen Family and I know God had it in his plan for us because of the sorrow that we were experiencing”. A parade in Joshua’s honor will be held on Saturday August 23, 2008 at 10:00 am. The parade will begin at the 9200 block of W Cleburne Rd. Corner of W Cleburne Rd and N Crowley Cleburne, in Crowley, which is the Southeast area of Fort Worth. It will proceed to the high school where Joshua graduated, North Crowley High School. In closing I would like to commend Lisa Allen (Joshua mother) for the great job she has done, in raising her sons. The Allen Family are truly a blessed family. In today’s world, where violence dominates the headlines on the news reports. This family was able to bond together as one. May God continue to bless you and Thanks Joshua for making a difference and not giving up on what you love to do DANCE. You can listen to this podcast and hear Bernice Castleberry Locklin, Mother Laura Castleberry, Missionary Bobbie Castleberry and Supt. Johnny Castleberry. Castleberry and honor Mother Laura Castleberry. Call (817) 536-9101 if you are interested in attending. If you would like to sew a seed for Mother Castleberry, then send it to the Attn: Of Mother Laura Castleberry, 4801 Wilbarger Street, Fort Worth, Texas 76120 Meanwhile here's a look at this amazing Ministry of the Castleberry family. September 1949,Elder L. C. Castleberry from Henderson, Texas,With him came stability. HE was a builder and had a mind to build God’s house. The church was built both spiritually and naturally. Elder L. C. Castleberry moved his family here in the summer of 1950. Baptizing was done in Robinson’s tank on Sunshine. Sister Laura Castleberry organized the first Senior and Junior Choirs. She was the Sunshine Band President and Sister Bernice Castleberry Locklin was the pianist. Brother George Wayne Pope was the Sunshine School Superintendent and dedicated deacon . Brother Pope would collect money from the saints for Pastor and the church. Sometime in 1953 a new edifice was ready to be built at 4904 Katy Street. The wood frame building was unpainted and would shake along with the members as they praised the Lord. There was a pot-belly wood stove and outdoor toilets and approximately thirty total members including the Pastor and his family. The old building was torn down. Pastor L. C. Castleberry and Brother R. E. Williams were the carpenters for the construction of the new edifice. Brother H. B. Carter was the electrician. Brothers Fred Stephens, O. V. Dickson, Sr. and L. D. Locklin poured cement steps and extension in front of the church and a foundation for the cafeteria on the East side of the church building. Later we moved to Willie Street and worshiped in the two story unpainted Hall. Brother L. C. Mc Curen, Brother Leroy Akins, Brother Robert Punch and others worked on the ceiling. The women pulled nails and fixed dinners for the brothers that worked untiringly on the new edifice. The new Sanctuary had indoor restrooms, a choir stand, a pulpit area, church pews and an organ, amenities that were not in the old building. Brother Robert Punch was instrumental in getting the street paved. In 1964 we had outgrown our sanctuary and Pastor L. C. was ready to build again. There was a need for classrooms and parking space. The church purchased four lots on corner of Ramey /Marlin at the cost of $555.00. In 1965, the church held a one-month tent revival on the Ramey/Marlin lot. Unable to build on the purchased lots, other plans developed and a church was purchased in 1969 in the Eastwood Area. Reverend Hildreth was the pastor. There were three brick buildings and a white frame building used for Boy Scouts. Brother Lloyd D. Locklin was the Boy Scout Leader. The sanctuary seated 500 or more with classrooms. All buildings had church furniture and air condition. One building was a fellowship hall, the other building was the main sanctuary and the other building was used for a daycare and youth center. 1988 was a difficult phase in the church life of Golden Gate. Our pastor, Superintendent L. C. Castleberry became very ill and the saints prayed continuously for about tow months. Pastor Castleberry died and Elder Horace and Missionary Dorothy Jimerson led the church. Bishop J. Neaul Haynes was the pastor with Elder Johnny Castleberry assisting him along with Elder Horace Jimerson. Bishop Haynes being led by the Spirit of God and honoring the request of the late Superintendent L. C. Castleberry, appointed Elder Johnny Castleberry as pastor of the Golden Gate Church of God in Christ. He came with a great vision, vigorous and full energy and courage. Souls continued to be saved. Remodeling was done and new auxiliaries were formed such as: the dance team, praise team, drill team, support groups, Sunday care, children’s church, new member’s class, Christian outreach services, radio broadcast ministry, feeding the homeless and the nurses unit. Golden Gate Church is now beginning phase II in the remodeling of the current sanctuary. Members have pledged and contributed thousands of dollars in helping this vision become a reality. Golden Gate COGIC is a place where a “Stranger meets a friend and a Sinner finds Christ.”
