Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 140: Gettin’ The Bugs Out Recording Date: 5/4/2026 Publish Date: 5/5/2026 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor  Pokémon the Series original air dates: Japan: 4/20/2000 USA: 3/17/2001 This episode wastes absolutely no time getting right down to it! We closed last week’s episode knowing that we were on the way to the Azalea Town Gym, now that it is functioning again (thanks to the Slowpoke). What we didn’t know was that as soon as Ash steps foot in the Gym, that an almost full episode length battle was about to go down. We meet the Azalea Town Gym Leader, Bugsy, who you guessed it, is a Bug-Type Trainer. Within minutes, the stage is set with Ash and Bugsy taking their positions on the battlefield. Before long we realize that Bugsy has an all Bug team, with Spinarak being his first choice. With Charizard not available, Ash decides on Cyndaquil to start the battle, having a strong type-advantage. Ash realizes quickly that Cyndaquil needs a little time to warm up, as the Spinarak makes pretty quick work of him before being called back to his Pokéball. Something also worth mentioning is that the battle animations in this episode look incredible, with more details, frames, and the speed lines that we all love. We see Ash bring out Chikorita and Pikachu to help bring things home, but it’s Cyndaquil that closes the deal for the team. We see Bugsy bring out a Metapod who has some fancy moves, and a Scyther, that puts on a show with both Double Team and Sword Dance. Ash has to be quick on his feet to figure out how Cyndaquil’s flames can get past Sword Dance, and a daring move let’s the attack land in spectacular fashion. This battle was awesome. We saw very little of Team Rocket in this episode, as they did show up to the battle only to be accidentally shocked by Pikachu, which of course worked out for everyone. Once the Gym Battle is complete and Ash earns his Hive Badge, Maizie catches up with the team to give them some fresh Apricorn Pokéballs that Kurt made. Ash and Misty take Lure Balls, and Brock takes a Heavy Ball. It was really cool seeing the different types of Pokéballs, especially after learning how they are made! Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 139: Going Apricorns Recording Date: 4/27/2026 Publish Date: 5/3/2026 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor  We finally make it to Azalea Town! We also get one step closer to understanding the GS Ball! We see Ash hand off the GS Ball to Kurt, who is excited to take a closer look. We won’t have closure on this part of this story arc though, as Kurt has absolutely no idea what the GS Ball is or how it works! Confident he can learn more over time, he will have to hold on to the GS Ball for longer to go into deeper analysis. We actually learn a lot about Poké Balls in this episode, as Kurt has mastered the art of harvesting Apricords and converting them into different types of Poké Balls. This lore is VERY welcomed in a series of episodes that have been tangential to the main quest. With Lane being an expert on Johto, he reveals that unfortunately, we won’t hear about the different types of balls that Kurt makes after this episode.  Team Rocket actually turns their priority from kidnapping Pikachu to stealing Kurt’s Apricorn operation. They think if they can make a fortune off of selling the unique Poké Balls. We meet a few Pineco, as they are hanging off of the apricorn trees, and they get involved in a scuffle with Team Rocket. When the dust settles, we see Brock have the opportunity to not only catch a Pineco, but to do it in one of Kurt’s custom Fast Balls. While we haven’t yet reached the Azalea Town gym, it was definitely cool that Brock was able to add a new Pokémon to his roster! As the party approaches the city, the heat begins to get to them, forcing them to take a break. Misty has the great idea to bring out Staryu, which acts as a sprinkler to cool every one off. This opens up the narrative about how the area has been stricken with a drought, and they may need to conserve their water abilities. While the party soldiers on to Azalea Town, Team Rocket decided they would dig in order to beat the heat and find water. With the help of the Super Diglett Mark 2 (their new very expensive and elaborate robot), they bore through the ground with ease before stumbling into a natural water reservoir deep in the caves. That’s when they notice that they are not alone.Surrounded by red eyes in the dark, we learn that this cave is filled with Slowpoke. Back above ground, Ash learns that due to the drought, all Azalea Town businesses, including the Gym, are closed until further notice. If there was only a way to end this drought! Aha! The Slowpoke legends speak that they are rainmakers, so the citizens regard the Slowpoke as their lifeline. Now they just need to figure out how to get the Slowpoke to do… anything. It’s worth pointing out that Azalea Town is also a critical location for the main story, with Ash still needing to deliver the mysterious GS ball to Kurt. The shenanigans begin thanks to Team Rocket, and we meet Kurt in an unexpected place and position. A major battle ensues, resulting in Team Rocket’s captured Slowpoke being freed. This leads to the Slowpoke fulfilling their prophecy and bringing rain to Azalea Town. Soon the land is filled with fresh water and greenery, which only means one thing. The Gym must be open! Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 137 Recording Date: 4/6/2026 Publish Date: 4/7/2027 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor  With last week’s episode leaving us just outside Azalea Town, we surely should be arriving there this episode… right? The narrator takes the wind out of our Azalea Town sails almost immediately as we see the party lost in the woods, when we meet Koji, a somewhat pushy and aggressive Trainer that is tracking a wild Cyndaquil. Once Ash hears this, he considers it a challenge and breaks off from the pack. That’s when things get interesting. Team Rocket shares some insight on how they had to work odd jobs between their Rocket duties in order to keep up with their villainous lifestyle. They bust out the Meowthinator mech to take on Ash and the crew, and ultimately go after the Cyndiquil, as it is something new for them to hyper fixate on. We see Cyndaquil use a massive Flamethrower on the Meowthinator which sets Pikachu up for the final strike. Just before a the massive explosion, Ash captures Cyndaquil in a Pokéball to shield him from the blast. Ash immediately lets Cyndaquil out, and we can see the bonding already happening. Koji cuts the pleasantries short and challenges Ash for the Cyndaquil, even though he technically already caught it. Ash feels confident after seeing Cyndaquil’s Flamethrower take out the Meowthinator, but things don’t go as planned for Ash, and he has to switch out his typical attack heavy style for something more defensive. In the end, Ash is victorious, and Cyndaquil is now part of the family. Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 136 Recording Date: 3/30/2026 Publish Date: 3/31/2026 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor  After the last few episodes focused on a single Pokémon and a unique city or village themed to that Pokémon, we are excited to give it another go and hope that Azalea Town isn’t too far away. This episode starts like most others, with the party walking through the woods. They hear some noises that turn out to be a very early appearance by Team Rocket, along with an adult Trainer and their Scizor.  With a title like, Wired For Battle, we are hoping in the least, that if we aren’t talking about Gym Battles, that we would at least see some solid battle footage, and this episode does not disappoint. We get to see 2 different Scizors in action, including one of them in an extended battle with Ash’s Heracross. It’s worth noting that we have seen much less of Pikachu lately, and with Charizard still off training, other Pokémon get a chance to shine. This episode has some great lessons, specifically how the world can be seen through the lens of a computer vs the lens of our own eyes. The episode’s rival, Shingo, is completely enthralled with his laptop, even thinking that battling isn’t necessary since the computer could predict the outcome. Little does he know that Ash isn’t one to follow trends or rules, which makes the finale battle absolutely epic. If you are into seeing some different moves being thrown around, this episode will make you very, very happy. Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 135 Recording Date: 3/23/2026 Publish Date: 3/24/2026 Watch the video version of this podcast at: http://patreon.com/pokemonprofessor  Last week we had a fun episode where we met some interesting characters, Gligar Man and his daughter Gligirl who live in a mystery city (because they never told us its name) and boy do they love Gligar there. It carried a similar theme as the last few episodes where the party encountered a community where the focus was on a single Pokémon. This episode continues on that theme. This week, the party encounters what they think is a wild Mareep, only to learn that it is part of a larger Mareep Community. They meet Mary and her little lamb, Fluffy, who takes a liking to Pikachu, as Mareep like to absorb electricity to power themselves up. This also makes their fleece grow larger and more luxurious, making Team Rocket take interest, as the fleece carries a high premium. Something that this episode brings in a big way is some great battle animations. We see some different moves visualized for the first time, and even see Ash mentoring Mary on battling. It was definitely cool seeing Ash be a coach to a younger Trainer, as it is a great vessel for sharing a lesson about the morality of Pokémon Training.  With Team Rocket swooping in for a heist of Mareep, we see some great battles from their squad. With Pikachu and the group of Mareep combining their electricity for a major strike on Team Rocket, we see them get blasted off with haste! Perhaps this will be the last detour that they need to take before finally arriving at Azalea Town! The amount of strange detours and a diverse cast of characters continues to interrupt their mission, as we are introduced to Latoya and her masked hero of a dad, Gligar Man!  Things start out with the party falling into a good’ol Team Rocket pit as they are walking on the path, only to be rescued by none other than Gligar Man. A stereotypical Superhero with the outfit, cape, and even the voice. This is one of the most interesting side characters we have met so far, and we get to learn more about them when they arrive in town. Turns out Gligar Man was nothing more than a plot to save toys, however thanks to Gligar’s actual desire to fight crime, it they became an actual vigilante team.  With Gligar Man well beyond his prime, his daughter Latoya swoops in to take the reigns as Gligirl, who looks incredible and can actually fight too! With her becoming the new secret superhero, her Dad can go back to being Mr. Parker, and running the toy store.  Such a fun episode and a worthy detour on the adventure to Azalea Town. When the group is feeling parched they stumbled across a water pipe to drink from, where they meet Sonrisa, who fills their canteens and leads them to Bloomingvale. Once in town we learn about the Sunflora Festival and how the town specializes in Training them. The festival shows us many Sunflora which of course attracted Team Rocket, who disguise Meowth and enter him into the contest. This led to us seeing a different side of Meowth, but not before an all out battle and an appearance from the famous Meowth Balloon. We also had an appearance with Madame Muchmoney’s Snubble, who almost seems like a walking easter egg at this point.  We will have to see if today’s episode actually results in the party making it to Azalea town! Grin to Win takes us to Bloomingvale where we meet Sonrisa and a town filled with Sunflora Trainers. With the Sunflora Festival bringing everyone together for a Pokémon Contest, Team Rocket creates a plan for Meowth to enter, as a Sunflora! The Shenanagans ensue and we see a side of Meowth like never before! We climax with an epic battle where multiple Team Rocket Pokémon make an appearance, and we see Chikorita competing with Pikachu for MVP! Pokémon the Series: Grin To Win! This time we see the party continuing on their journey when they stumble upon Charicific Valley, which you guessed it, is filled with Charizard. We meet Liza, and her Charizard Charla, who operates a Charizard Sanctuary with a unique approach to training Charizards. While Brock falls in love, we see Ash put his Charizard to the test in both battle and loyalty. Ash feels a bit too over confident, and we see that his Charizard isn’t as formidable as he thinks. There are many clashes between Charizard, with some that are nearly twice the size of Ash’s.  Team Rocket shows up not with an Arbotank, but with a giant Big Catcher trojan horse abomination, as they shift their sights from Pikachu to Charizard. We get to see a bit of Jesse and James’ softer sides, as they actually end up cheering for Ash’s Charizard in battle. That is of course, until they get blasted off… again. This episode gives us a bit of everything, from humor to action. This fun detour will lead us to Ash and crew soon reaching Azalea Town, which is the next Gym on Ash’s radar. Unfortunately, this episode fell a bit short with a less than compelling story and an ending that left both of us confused as to what the point of the show was. While it was great to see Professor Oak and the GS Ball, there was nothing of substance that gave us any additional insight into what the GS Ball even is!   As for other news, we discuss the 25th Anniversary of the Anime and the montage video that Pokémon put together to celebrate. They also tease the return of Greninja in Master Journeys, which is very exciting, especially as we don’t know the context about its return.   A new video documentary has been released about the Pokémon Live stage show and how it almost took Broadway by storm. While seeming painfully low budget, the show actually toured the world and was successful. It is very interesting how little was actually known about the show, until now. We begin with the newly released Master Journeys Trailer which details how Ash, Goh, and Chloe will have 3 separate missions on their adventure to be Pokémon Trainers. Studio Colorido did an amazing job telling a story without the need for dialogue! Amazing animation and incredible music push this story along and it had us smiling the entire time. There is just something about Magikarp that pulls on our nostalgia vibe!   Finally we watch along with Pokémon the Series Episode 118, Flower Power! We loved how many different Pokémon were released, but fell in love with Substitute.   The Underground Round Up brings us closer to the finish line of the Orange Islands Arc. We are looking forward to the reunion of Ash and Oak, and hopefully learn something about the GS Ball! Gotta Watch’em All 105 Recording Date - 8/18/2020 Publish Date - 8/22/2020   Hey trainers! We begin our coverage by recapping our last week in Pokémon GO! We were able to enjoy a blast of Unova Pokemon and the return of Genesect to raids! With one of the coolest looking shinies, we expect another big week of Remote Raiding from the GO Trainers!   This past weekend was the Pokken Tournament finals in the Players Cup, and the footage was insane! There is something very cool about watching high level Pokken play, as the level of technical know how is a masterclass in the fighting game world.   Pokémon.com put together a great piece to celebrate 20 years of Slowpoke in the TCG! From the most basic of art styles from the Fossil set, to the elaborate Tag Team. Slowpoke has always been a fan favorite and it is easy to see why when looking back at all of the amazing cards that have featured it!   There are a bunch of new products at the Pokémon Center but our favorites have to be the new Pikachu Classics shirts. Coming in at about half the price as the Original Stitch shirts, they provide a nice option for those looking for a lower price point!   We wrap up the episode with our Anime watchalong of Episode 105, The Wacky Watcher! We are introduced to a wild new side character in Quincy Quackenpoker. This tournament is the first of its kind and will feature online competitions in the TCGO, VGC and Pokken Tournament DX! The winners in each category will get a travel invite to one if the 2021 International Tournaments! It will be interesting to see how these competitors do on the world stage!   We take a dive into the art of Rebel Clash and discuss how in addition to being a game and a collectible, each TCG card is a miniature piece of artwork! Pokemon.com breaks it down and discusses artistic concepts, artists, and fun styles like frightened and even Pokémon with facial hair!   Niantic has announced Seedot Community Day for May, with the same Play At Home format that we saw with Abra last month. Also announced was a 24 hour YouTube livestream with an open comment section. We will be sure to be in front of our keyboards with popcorn!   Pokémon Masters continues to keep Trainers busy by introducing a new Fighting themed event as well as a new Sync Pair, Wally and Gallade! Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 93 Record Date - 5/10/2020 Publish Date - 5/12/2020   We start off this week with a discussion about some excellent Galar Pokémon to use in Single Battles! We focus on Galarian Darmanitan and his ability Gorilla Tactics that make it an offensive force to be reckoned with! Corviknight is another formidable foe with its egg move, Defog! Who are you running in competitive Sword and Shield?   Snubbull Limited Research puts a new spin on an event type that we have seen before. The Limited Research has moved to the Today View which makes it easy to access while not interfering with other gameplay! We both really enjoyed this new format and hope it continues!   New plushes have hit the Pokemon Center and we cant agree on which one is the best. We see a stunning Galarian Ponyta and a super cool Sir Fetch’d. Both are some of the coolest plushes we have seen and have awesome designs and colorations. Which one of the newest plushes released is your favorite?   Next we take a look at the TCG Masters Finals from Collinsville where we see an Justin and his Trevanant/Dusknoir Deck go up against Kolton and his Rowlet/Alolan Exeggutor Deck. Both of these decks have some amazing mechanics, however some key draws helped Justin tech his way to victory in 2 games.   Finally we watch Episode 93, Meowth Rules, which continues to develop the relationship between Jessie, James and Meowth. We learn that they all do care about each other very much, even though they still give each other a hard time. Gotta Watch’em All Podcast 91 Recording Date: - 4/26/20 Publish Date - 4/27/20   We have a lot of animation news this week! We start with the announcement and trailer for the 23rd season of the anime, Pokémon Journeys! We see Ash on his continued journey to be the best along with  his new friend Goh, who hopes to catch every Pokémon! The animation style and theme song leave us wanting more and we are excited for its release on June 12th!   Rebel Clash will release in a few days, and we take a look at a few cards that we expect will become popular in the Standard Format. Eldegoss V along with Boss’s Orders look to be a very powerful combination! Let us know if you will be running any cards from Rebel Clash in your deck!   Abra Community Day was this weekend, and we share the different ways that we experienced the event! Ken went out and played through a solo and socially distant walk through Red Bank, NJ while Adam played from home in his pajamas! Two opposite ways to play that yielded very similar results! Remote raiding is also on the horizon and we are exceptionally excited to give it a try!   Next up is Twilight Wings Episode 4, which turns out to be our clear favorite of the series so far. We see Nessa go through some soul searching to prove to Chairman Rose that she will not be held back, whether as a model or a Pokémon Trainer. This episode has some of the best music and amazing animation we have seen from in a long time.   Finally we wrap up with our rewatch of Snack Attack, which includes a fan favorite Pokémon in Snorlax, however the story falls a bit flat. Even though we just came off an episode where Ash was battling in the Orange League, we revert to another sidewinder story that has nothing to do with the League or the GS Ball.
