Snack Time Devotional | Short Scripture Reflections for Daily EncouragementIn this Snack Time Devotional, we reflect on Genesis 1:14-17 and the deeper spiritual meaning of light in the creation account.While reading these verses, I found myself reflecting on a study from the previous Sabbath in Leviticus 24. I had no intention to study that day. I simply reflected as the Holy Spirit brought something back to my memory.In Leviticus 24, the High Priest Aaron was responsible for keeping the lamps lit from evening until morning. The lamps were to be lit at twilight and were not to go out during the night.At the time, I remember saying that everything they did back then carried symbolic meaning for us today.The lamps were filled with pure olive oil. For us today, that oil represents the Holy Spirit.For our light to remain lit, we must stay filled with the Holy Spirit. And the way we remain filled is by spending daily time in the presence of the Lord.Genesis tells us that the greater light rules the day, but the lesser light rules the night. At first, I assumed this simply referred to the moon. But as I reflected on the symbolism, I began to see something deeper. I didn't expect to see this as I sat down to read. Yet, there is a saying that once your eyes are opened, there is no closing them.My eyes were recently opened to metaphors, and the fact that King Jesus spoke using not just parables, but metaphors.Parables and metaphors are similar in that both reveal deeper meaning. The Holy Spirit started negging me just last week to begin podcasting. Just last week I didn't know how. Today is my first.With this first I know that I am being equipped for every good work.With this first I know that I am being prepared for something that I am not aware is coming my way.This first is my Kindergarten project.These firsts is where I will make a few mistakes as I find my niche. (Laughing)But I also know that Father would not send me in this direction if HE didn't think I could do this.I promise you I didn't see this coming either.I am a writer.But as I recouperate and heal from this surgery that I had I needed to find new ways to pour out all that is being poured into me.And how about that.This takes me to Isaiah 43:19"See, I am doing a new thing! At Luke 6:46 Jesus said why do you call me Lord Lord and do not do what I say.When Jesus speaks to you, do you ignore him, and instead choose to listen to the counsel of another?What causes this is not really the heart of the individual, but a lack of understanding what the voice of the LORD sounds like.If we are not taught to recognize the sound of the voice of the LORD spoken to you, or if you are made to feel as if you have to be religious to have this experience, then of course you will not listen.Let me show you an individual in the Bible who also not only did not know the LORD but did not know the word of the LORD either, but when the LORD called him and it was recognized that he was being called, he was taught how to hear and encouraged to listen and speak.He was taught to hear the voice of the LORD spoken to his heart.He was given permission to listen to the voice of the LORD spoken to his heart.He was not required to listen only to the older man (priest) whom he worked for.He was not required to honor and recognize the pedestal (pulpit) over the voice of the LORD spoken to his heart.Because the high priest taught him to listen to the voice of the LORD, his experience was beyond exceptional. His walk with the LORD was amazing.We need to be taught to hear the voice of the LORD spoken to our heart.We need to learn to trust the voice of the LORD spoken to our heart.Our Heavenly Father wants to speak to us. I don't ever want to take for granted that our Heavenly Father approved for me to be awakened today. He has a purpose for me in this day. (I wonder what it is. I wonder who I am to receive from today. I wonder who I am to give to today. I wonder what I will receive. I wonder what I am to give.)All I know is that I cannot treat today as just another day. All I know is that I am not to do what I normally do, or what society expects me to do in this day. Our Heavenly Father approved for me to be awakened today. I was awakened for HIS purposed. He has a will for me for today - a plan for me and whatever it is it is for my good.I'm so excited. I must not forget that someone did not hear their name called on today. Someone did not wake up. Someone will not be able to participate in this day - for the good or the bad.I say or the bad because I do realize that iron sharpens iron. So some have a hard job to do. Some have the responsibility of bringing themselves and others to their knees.Why themselves and others?Because God's Word is a two edged sword. So usually those with the hard assignments are those who reject the KING Jesus Christ as their Savior and Redeemer.By not accepting Jesus as Lord over their lives in gratitude for His making us all debt free, one still lives in such a way that is shaped in iniquity. And so the path they are one causes them to have to be sharpened by iron - whether they are the sharpener or the one being sharpened. This too is necessary. I get it. Someone has to do the hard work.As for me, I desire to be a ground that is malleable - a ground that is ready for planting, ready to receive good seed, and ready to grow. I want to be a ground that can withstand the forces of nature and the attack of the bugs ( lol ) so that I can grow and produce good fruit.So yes I am excited about today.I am grateful that I was chosen to wake up today.I present myself, a living sacrifice, ready to do God's will on this day.Good morning. To whitewash is a metaphor meaning "to gloss over or cover up vices, crimes or scandals or to exonerate by means of a perfunctory investigation or through biased presentation of data".Hypocrisy is the practice of engaging in the same behavior or activity for which one criticizes another. In moral psychology, it is the failure to follow one's own expressed moral rules and principles.The Bible had a lot more to say about the whitewashed graves of hypocrisy than I thought.This is what watv.org shared on the subject in 2010...QuoteEze 13:10-15 " ‘Because they lead my people astray, saying, "Peace," when there is no peace, and because, when a flimsy wall is built, they cover it with whitewash, therefore tell those who cover it with whitewash that it is going to fall. How will you escape being condemned to hell?"Thus, the Bible likens false prophets and their denominations to whitewashed tombs; for even though a church is very big and gorgeous on the outward and it has long history and tradition, if it has no truth, it can never be a place of salvation.Today, there are so many churches led by false prophets like whitewashed tombs in the world; they shut off the kingdom of heaven from people by deceiving them with falsehood and lawlessness while calling God, "Lord, Lord" (Mt 7:21- 23). The Bible refers to the false churches as spiritual Babylon. God wants His people to quickly come out of Babylon—a home for demons—which is full of wickedness and lawlessness, before the Judgment Day comes, so that they will not be condemned with them.Rev 18:2-5 With a mighty voice he shouted: "Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great! She has become a home for demons and a haunt for every evil spirit, a haunt for every unclean and detestable bird. The misunderstanding of Romans 8:1 and the subsequent misapplication has come from years of not reading the scripture in its full context.The fact that it starts off by saying "therefore..." indicates that the proceeding versus give substance to why the verse was written. Thus, I would encourage the reading of the proceeding verses and chapters also.But in the meantime, before you complain or gossip about a brother or sister in Christ, keep this in mind, "there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the spirit."Therefore, consider this:Are the acts you are gossiping about and condemning according to the sinful nature?Where the ask someone else was judging you over according to the spirits or according to the sinful nature?Are you taking someone to court, or being taken to court?( Matthew 5:25, 26) is it over the sinful nature?The fact that you are in court is evidence that there is condemnation over which a judgment is expected. Even something as small as getting a parking or speeding ticket falls in this category.Is the person you are at odds with a christian?I didn't ask if they went to church. I asked if they were a Christian.Do they claim to believe in Jesus christ?Would they acknowledge Jesus to be their savior?You cannot answer for them. But this would serve as a great opportunity to learn what it means to acknowledge Jesus as Lord, explaining that this means to have Jesus as one's master. It's a great opportunity to witness and redeem a brother to oneself. But, instead, we take one another to court. Today I found myself reflecting on Numbers Chapter 13 and chapter 14 and it's subsequent chapters and verses.It dawned on me that all of the people who were doing the complaining were 20 years and over. How many of you have read the book of Philemon?It's and amazing book with a great lesson about letting go and receiving again. We can quote this verse verbatim. It is prayed. It is song. But do we really understand what it is that we are praying when we say this prayer? Do we understand what we are asking of God?Have we ever taken a second and considered it Beyond just reading it, quoting it, or repeating it after others as a call and response?This is a very powerful prayer and one that we need to take the moment to ponder deeply in our hearts. SelahOur Father...[ We need to recognize that GOD is our FATHER. Our parent. He knows us intimately. He knows the number of hairs on our heads. He awakens us every morning. He provides for our needs and wants to give us some wants also. He cares for us, provides, protects, corrects, and disciplines us like a parent (Hebrews 12:5-12) ]Our Father in heaven...[ We need to not forget that Our Father is Sovereign. He is Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent. Nothing is hidden from him. Everything is naked and openly exposed before Him. Therefore we need to humble ourselves before Him. We need to respect Him, and when we approach Him there should be reverent fear because of who He is. ]Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name...[Hallowed means holy, clean, cleansed from any wrong that might be imputed. When we say that His name is hallowed, we are telling God that He was right all along and we were wrong. We are telling God that we should have listened to Him from the very beginning. We are saying to God that HE is free from the guilt of all that Satan and man have charged him of.Satan said to Eve that God lied about her and Adam dying if they ate from the tree. That was the first great lie told on our Father.The next lie Satan told was when he insinuated that God is buying our love by blessing us and covering over us. See Job chapters 1 and 2.]Our Father in Heaven, HALLOWED be Your Name.Your Kingdom come...[God's Kingdom is a government that is going to put an end to the governments of this world. (See Daniel 2:44) We need God's Kingdom to come and fix this world and the earth that we have destroyed with our disobedience. Man has tried. There have been different regimes, different rulers, different types of government and ultimately man has made things worse. We need God's Kingdom because man's government is not working. ]Your Kingdom come. Your will be done...[We like to fuss about how we have "free will", yet the truth of the matter is that in our free will we have been messing things up. We have been selfish in how we have operated. We have been allowed free will to show us that we actually need God and that we cannot do things of our own strength and understanding. We need help. We need God's Will to be done. Not God's permissive will, but God's perfect will. ]Your Kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven...[ God's will is already being done in heaven. The enemy of our Lord has been cast out of heaven. Heaven has been cleansed of the antagonist. We need for the earth to be cleansed of all wickedness too. ]Give us this day our daily bread...[ Jesus is the Word of God. Jesus is the bread from heaven. Whenever we call upon the name of Jesus we are asking for our daily bread we are asking for a daily word. We are told that He sent His Word and healed us, and delivered us from our destructions. Notice that the prayer says "daily". We are to read in God's Word day and night. We are to feed on the Word of God daily. We ask God to provide this to us and He did, but are we availing ourselves of this bread. Are we eating the bread that God has given to us? Are we hearing it, listening to it, reading it? ]Forgive us our debts...[We have inherited sin. Therefore we have to deal with transgressions (acts of sin) that we commit unknowingly; and iniquities (when we know how to do what is right but we do wrong). We all have this battle. ]Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors...[ There is no one sin greater than the other. The forgiveness we desire to receive is dependent upon the forgiveness we give to others. ]and Do not lead us into temptation...[ Revelation 2:10; James 1:2-4; Zechariah 13:9; and the better-known verse is Matthew 4:1 where the Spirit led Jesus in the wilderness to be tempted by Satan. Jesus told us to pray that we do not have to go through that at Luke 22: 40. He warns us ahead of time. Are we listening? ]But deliver us from the evil one...[He tells us at James 4:7 how He delivers us. It starts with submission. Again, we must lay down that free will and take upon ourselves God's will.]For Yours is the Kingdom and the power, and the glory forever[The right to rule belongs to our Father in Heaven. It always has. We thought we could do it better. We were wrong. To God belongs the power and the glory. How long? Looking at the faith, determination, and persistence of the paralytic and his four friends who carried him to see Jesus Christ is encouraging. My daughter in law raised a question, on her social media platform, that I happened to see early one Sunday morning. She asked, "Why did Jesus need to be born into the world?" and "How can you be from a bloodline if you created it?" Her question now reminds me of a question Jesus asked the religious leaders, as found in Matthew 21:41-46. This podcast contains my response to my daughter in law. Jesus birth into this world instead of just coming down to the earth was all necessary and conducive to our being set completely free in every area of our lives.
