Imperfectly Broken The Podcast

Being human means being imperfect. It means making mistakes — but also loving, laughing, learning, growing, changing, and truly living. Being human means you matter. It means you have infinite value. This podcast is all about embracing the human experience, especially the beauty of imperfection. Our weaknesses give us the chance to grow and turn them into strengths. Being human is a life full of stories, relationships, faith, and growth.Psychology helps us better understand what it means to be human, and I love sharing insights and lessons I learn along the way.I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and this podcast focuses heavily on testimony-building stories, scripture-based insights, and powerful experiences that highlight growth and turning to Christ.I hope listening to this podcast makes you laugh, encourages you to grow, strengthens your testimony of Jesus Christ, and remi

230 Love Like Him (feat. Adelle Hayes)

I went to Adelle’s mission homecoming a couple months ago, and I absolutely loved her talk. Her stories made me tear up and feel so much love for the gospel. I am SO GRATEFUL for God’s love for us. Of course I asked her if she would be willing to record a podcast episode about her mission, and she agreed! This episode is really special, and I am so grateful Adelle was willing to share her experiences with us. Thank you, Adelle! College Life With Kyra (CLWK) I asked my cohort if they would be willing to send me a little audio clip answering a couple questions. Thank you Chloé, Ash, Laney, Anna, and Jenna for sending me a clip! I also told them I was going to post it the first week of January, and here we are in April … haha whoops! I can’t even believe that in just a couple more weeks, we will have finished our first year! I’m feeling so grateful and blessed. I wrote this blog post back in February and posted it on February 10th. Sorry it took me over a month to get the audio out! I’m really happy with how this turned out. 226 Abounding Awareness: Proof God Loves Us One by One

In this short episode, I tell the brief story of how I met two young women, Elly and Aspyn, at a youth stake dance. (I volunteered to help set things up and stayed to help clean up.) I know that God is aware of us and wants us to know that He loves us. I’m grateful He is happy to prove it to me again and again. 225 The Answer is Jesus (feat. Mikayla Seiter)

In this episode, Mikayla and I talked about her missionary experience. I asked her about miracle stories, times she followed a prompting, fun facts she learned on the mission, why she decided to serve a mission, and how her relationship with the Savior grew while on her mission. Mikayla has unique and powerful insight, and I’m so grateful for her time and testimony! Thank you Mikayla 🫶🏻❤️ Here is a link to my table of contents: https://docs.google.com/docume... Whitney’s back! She and I recorded an episode before her mission where she shared her decision to serve. It’s called “A Wonderful Weekend for Whitney,” episode 74. Now, 18 months (and some change) later, she’s back to give us the scoop! We talk about following promptings, witnessing miracles, the mental game of serving a mission, funny experiences, and relying on Christ. 223 The Cherished & Beloved Doctrine of Heavenly Mother (feat. Ash Rose)

In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we believe that we have both a Heavenly Father AND a Heavenly Mother. This cherished and beloved doctrine of Heavenly Mother is unique to our faith and is dear to many of our hearts. Although we do not know much, we know She exists and loves us. It can be difficult that we do not know much about Her, but I have a testimony that we will understand someday. Until then, let us continue to cherish the wonderful doctrine of a Heavenly Mother. Cherish definition: -to protect and care for (someone) lovingly -to hold (something) dear -to keep (a hope) in one’s mind AN IMPORTANT NOTE: Although I felt quite strongly about recording this episode, I still feel nervous and anxious to post it for the world to hear. You’ll notice that I, while editing, added little comments and sidebars to the episode in order to clarify things and be ever so clear in what we were saying. Please understand that while we tried to stick to pure doctrine and truth, we were not perfect. Please, I implore and plead with you, do the spiritual work necessary to seek personal revelation for yourself. It’s true that we do not currently know much about our Heavenly Mother, but that does not mean Heavenly Father isn’t anxious to answer our questions and give us peace. This is a gospel for ALL of God’s children. Men AND women. People of ALL races and nationalities. Our Heavenly Parents want us to return home to Them, one by one. As Ash and I recorded this podcast, our goal was to keep it strengths-oriented and faith-filled. Please remember that “Reason cannot replace revelation. Speculation will not lead to greater spiritual knowledge, but it can lead us to deception or divert our focus from what has been revealed” (Elder Renlund, April 2022). As you seek greater understanding, stay close to the spirit. The light of the everlasting gospel will show you the way. Elder Renlund’s talk:https://www.churchofjesuschris... 222 And He Does (blog post)

After venting on a Marco Polo share-cast about how hard grad school has been, I felt prompted to end my rant with gratitude. I started sharing some of the prayers I’ve been saying lately—each one ending with, “Will you help me?” Without really thinking about it, I finished with, “And He does.” I realized right after I finished recording that I had a blog post in the making. Two days later… here it is. (I know, two days is impressive. It normally takes me weeks and months, haha!) I hope you enjoy this brief but powerful testimony that God hears and answers our prayers. 220 The Statistics for 2025

I have to be real here, I recorded this on January 1st but have been too lazy to edit it. (Alright, you caught me … I haven’t edited the last few episodes but we’re not going to talk about it.) I’m trying to go back to editing them because I want to put out good quality stuff. Since this is boring because it’s all about numbers (and I’m sure most of you don’t care about the specifics), I’m also posting another episode this week. Today’s episode is kind of a bonus if you’re interested. If not, fair enough. This is really more for me than for you. #guilty P.S. For fun (and to mix things up), I sped sections up and changed the pitch of my voice for parts where I figured it would be boring to sit through (e.g. counting from 1-39). Normally I would just delete those sections, but I decided to try something new today. Sorry if it’s annoying, I meant to save you time! In this episode, Ash and I discuss a powerful lesson we had in class about scripture verses in John 6. I’m sure we left some details out and didn’t explain everything to the best of our ability, but I hope you enjoy the meaning behind the message. Friends! I’m sorry it’s been two weeks since I have posted something. This episode will make up for it, I promise! In this episode, I interview Carter about his mission. He shares his favorite experiences, how he turned to Jesus Christ when he struggled with anxiety, the importance of following promptings, living in the present moment, and the miracles he experienced. 213 One Fallen Calendar at a Time (blog post)

I hope that by putting “blog post” in the title, it clarifies that this is a different episode than the one with the exact same title a couple weeks ago. It is, however, the same story and message. I just wrote a cute little blog post and wanted to keep the pattern going of reading it on my podcast. 212 CLWK: The Day That Was Hard

My friends! Welcome back! On this podcast, I’ve shared a lot—I’ve been vulnerable, silly, open, and honest. This episode feels like a new kind of vulnerable for me. I’m not sure how it will come across, but my hope is that no matter your beliefs or politics, you’ll hear my genuine attempt to express how I’ve been feeling and why politics often trip me up. It’s a little jumbled at times—I start to say more and then move on. That wasn’t intentional; I just got nervous, and things came out a bit messy. You’ll also notice I say, “I don’t know,” a lot. For me, that usually means I do know what I’m thinking—I just don’t know how to say it. That definitely happened in this episode. Sorry about that! If episodes where I ramble and share my personal thoughts aren’t your favorite, I’d recommend checking out episode 211, “Trembling From Love.” As promised, here is the link of the general conference talk I mentioned, “An High Priest of Good Things to Come.”https://www.churchofjesuschris... I love this episode. Although I read things differently than I normally do, I love the resources that I found that talk about God’s infinite love. 210 CLWK: The First Week of Graduate School

CLWK = College Life With Kyra This episode is all about my first couple days of graduate school at BYU. I’m loving it and feel grateful to be back in a classroom. Believe it or not, I have two more episodes already recorded, and I’m really excited for one of them. It’s called, “Trembling From Love,” and I’m going to post it Friday. Monday’s episode will be titled, “CLWK: The Day That Was Hard.” That particular episode just happens to be about school too haha! So here’s the warm-up episode, where everything is rainbows and sunshine. Next Monday’s episode is when I get REAL. All this said, if these type of episodes aren’t your thing, don’t skip out on Friday’s episode, “Trembling From Love.” It is a beautiful compilation of God’s infinite love for us. Phew. That was all over the place. Long story short: feel free to skip this episode (and Monday’s) but please don’t miss Friday’s! Here is a link to my table of contents: https://docs.google.com/docume... 209 One Fallen Calendar at a Time

Last week, my calendar fell off the wall. (I haven’t put it back up yet … though I should do that!) I realized that it was Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother’s way of saying, “Hey, I got you. I’m here for you. I’m aware of you.” I promise that if you look for God’s hand in your life, you’ll find it everywhere. It shows up. Again and again. 208 To Find What Feels Lost

Hey friends! This episode ended up being significantly longer than I expected it to be, but as I got to updating you on my life and all the things that I’ve been thinking about, the time quickly added up. After I update you on things, I talk about losing myself in Christ and what I’ve learned about that. When I felt like I had lost part of myself, I got inspiration that I should refocus on losing myself in Christ instead. I encourage you to lose yourself in Christ and service too. For me, it changed everything. P.S. I have a mini episode recorded for Friday! Here is a link to my table of contents: https://docs.google.com/docume... 207 It’s Just a Matter of When (blog post)

I didn’t know how long this episode would end up being, but I’m not surprised it ended up being 45+ minutes long. The “main post” is only about 4-5 minutes long, and the ramblings of page two took the rest of the time. I hope you enjoy the backstory of my journey getting into graduate school! 206 A God of Even ifs (feat. Kadrianne Bird)

Kadrianne and I met while we were both attending Southern Utah University, and we became dear friends. She is a wonderful person, piano player, disciple of Christ, and the list goes on and on! Kadrianne is one of the kindest people I know, and I feel so blessed to be her friend. We recorded this the day after her homecoming (that’s when missionaries speak in church about their missions after they come home). She did a wonderful job, and I wanted to interview her for my podcast because she had such valuable insight that I wanted others to hear. 205 The Unexpected Hike: A 46 Minute Miracle

On July 28th, I went for a hike. Part of it I was planning on, and the other part … I was not. In this episode, I share the story of my hike and the small miracle that occurred. It has nothing to do with my safety by the way, so don’t worry about that. I’m okay and was always okay. ;) I hope you enjoy my silliness and the story that proved to me, once again, that prayer works. 204 CLWK: The Move

The honest truth is that I had absolutely no desire to edit this episode, so I didn’t (other than normalizing it). I sincerely hope it doesn’t drive you crazy, but like I said, I had no motivation to listen to myself ramble for 30 minutes. If you’re curious about my move and want to hear the story (as well as some random details about my life), then this episode is for you. If you don’t really care (SO FAIR), then stick around for next episode which will be a miracle story. Thank you for your love and support! 203 What I’ve Learned From Serving in the Temple

Although this episode is a little more scatterbrained than I wanted it to be, I am grateful for the opportunity to reflect on what I learned from serving in the Cedar City Temple as an ordinance worker. I hope you can follow my thought-process and hear the love I have for the temple, the patrons, the Gospel, and for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. 202 Brain Dump: Maybe it’s Not Impossible After All

Hello hello! In the past, I have published episodes that I did not edit, though I’ve tried to keep that number low. I suppose today we are adding one to the count. As I write this (in this current moment), it is late, my eyes are hurting/strained, and I am very tired (hence the multiple yawns in this episode haha). If you’ve heard of the video chat app, Marco Polo, pretend I am sending you a Polo. No editing required. 🫡😎 I really wanted this episode to be powerful (I’ve been wanting to record this specific episode for a long time now), but alas, we don’t always get what we want … and that’s okay. If you want a more powerful and inspiring message, go listen to episode 193. That one is the blog post version of “Maybe it’s Not Impossible After All,” and it is MUCH BETTER! Anyway, have a wonderful day! I’ll see you next week with a much better episode. I promise. #embraceimperfection Here is a link to my table of contents: https://docs.google.com/docume... 201 An Ice Chest For Healing (feat. LynAnn Ellsworth Imlay)

On an August night 17 years ago, LynAnn received devastating news: both her husband and son had died in a plane crash. Wanting to turn to the Lord for comfort and strength, LynAnn and her family clung to the gospel of Jesus Christ with “both hands.” In this episode, LynAnn shares her story—the heartbreak and sadness, but more importantly, the hope and healing. We discuss the Atonement of Jesus Christ and what it really means for us, as well as how to support someone who is grieving—whether they’re facing a cancer diagnosis, the death of a loved one, addiction, or another kind of loss. I have a testimony that there is purpose and meaning behind our suffering. Our pain is not in vain—it matters. I hope you’ll take the time to listen to LynAnn’s story and gain strength from what she so generously shares. And one quick update: I’ve officially decided to move to one episode per week instead of two. With this change, I’m making a commitment—to you and to myself—not to miss a single week for the rest of the year. New episodes will drop every Wednesday. 200 The Healing Power of The Temple

A few months ago, a brother on my temple shift shared a tender story that touched all of our hearts. (Seriously, everyone was shedding tears. Myself included!) After returning from military service, he struggled with severe PTSD. But through a series of divine interventions where the Lord clearly guided him and his family, he found healing—divine healing—in the House of the Lord. His story was so powerful that many people on our shift asked if he would write it down and print copies to take home. I picked one up, and knowing how powerful the story was, felt prompted to ask if I could record and share it on the podcast. He kindly gave me permission. I’m deeply grateful for our veterans—those who have risked their lives and carry the burden of trauma so that we can live in freedom. Especially the freedom to worship, to choose Christ, and to grow in discipleship. I’m also profoundly thankful for the temple and the saving ordinances performed there. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love us more than we can comprehend, and They are always inviting us to come home. Here is a link to my table of contents: https://docs.google.com/docume... 199 CLWK: The Dryer

I’m going to be so real … the reason I am posting this on a Thursday (and even posting it at all) is because I want the episode tomorrow to be episode 200, so I kind of needed a filler episode. This little story doesn’t even take 5 minutes, so it was perfect. Feel free to skip this one, but if you choose not to (or even if you do), I hope you ponder the power of prayer! 198 The Authors of Peace

I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ for SO MANY reasons. One of those reasons is because it is a great place to find Christ’s peace and enter into His rest. I know that Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost—the Godhead—are the true authors of peace. They can help us feel whole even while we wait for healing. They can help us feel strong when we feel weak. They can make us more when we feel less. I am grateful for the rest that Jesus Christ offers—rest He offers today and every day. In this episode, I interview my new friend, Nellybutter (a name she had fun creating!). Due to sharing some vulnerable things, she wanted to stay anonymous, and I totally respect that! We talk about faith, help, hope, and healing. Nellybutter shares a couple vulnerable things and encourages others to seek support and utilize the resources available to them. I’ve posted a lot of vulnerable things on both my blog and on this podcast. I’ve talked about depression, anxiety, unmet expectations, my testimony, personal stories, and so much more. Well this blog post is a little bit different as it is *extremely* vulnerable and makes me uncomfortable to think about sharing with the world. It’s been on my blog since December of 2022, but it’s pretty hidden. I’ve covered it with lots of other posts and is now not even on the front page (you have to scroll to the bottom and push “next”). It doesn’t worry me too much anymore because it’s rare for anyone to find it. I *rarely* share it with people, so I’m sure it doesn’t get read very often. Just how I like it haha! Well of course Heavenly Father had other plans. I felt prompted a couple days ago to record this and then post it on my podcast. So once again, I feel vulnerable as I’m bringing it forward, taking it out of its hiding place. I hope you can hear my sincerity through my voice and words. You can find the blog post at https://imperfectlybroken.com/... 195 The Living Water

In today’s episode, I share a little fun fact about me and then talk about something silly that happened on Sunday. I then connect this experience to Jesus Christ and my decision to choose Him again and again. He is the “Living Water” and by drinking from His doctrine, we can have everlasting life and never thirst again. How incredible is that?! 194 CLWK: The Search is Over

College Life With Kyra: The Search is Over I’m going to be so real with you right now (I always try to be), I think this episode will be a lot more engaging/interesting if you listen to it sped up. When I recorded this, I was kind of lethargic and slow, and as I was listening back to edit the episode, it drove me crazy. So for your sake, play this at a faster speed than 1x. There should be an option on your podcasting app to speed it up, and once again, I recommend you use it for this episode! The second honest point is that I had a whole section in here about going down to one episode a week (I’ve already been doing that for the last 3-4 weeks haha whoops), but upon editing it, I took it out. Why? Well because THE MOTIVATION, EXCITEMENT, and DESIRE to podcast is BACK BABY! Heavenly Father has graciously answered my prayers, and I’ve decided to continue to post/go back to two episodes a week. Yayyyyyy! Although I didn’t talk about it in the episode, “the search” for motivation is over as well as my search for housing up north. So the title has double meaning, and I didn’t even realize it. I am so grateful! I’m excited to announce that I’ll have an episode out on Wednesday of this week too. Crazy, right?! OHHHH, it’s good to be back! 👏🏻🔥😁 Here is a link to my table of contents: https://docs.google.com/docume... 193 Maybe it’s Not Impossible After All (blog post)

Believe it or not, I posted a blog post today. The last time I posted was November 8, 2024, so this is a pretty momentous occasion. I decided to record and post it today on my podcast as well, but I’ll be posting another episode with the same title (without “blog post”) soon. That episode will be more in depth about this topic and perhaps a little bit more vulnerable. Stay tuned for that! Here is the blog post link:https://imperfectlybroken.com/... 192 Destined to Prove a Disturber and an Annoyer (feat. Ellora Nielson)

Your favorite girl is back! It just worked out for Ellora to record another podcast episode with me, but this time, we got to do it in person! We talked about her FSY experience last July and all the miracles that occurred for her that week. We talked about being strong in the faith, about how we can have an impact on people and not even know it, about how sometimes those who seem really strong are at times the most attacked, and about bearing our testimony. I encourage you to be like Ellora; be “destined to prove a disturber and an annoyer in [Satan’s] kingdom.” Trust in the Lord with all you’ve got. Don’t let the greatest bully of our world let you forget who you are and what you’re destined to do. I promise fighting the good fight is worth every effort because I KNOW the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true. And not only is it true, but Christ supports His people while Satan drags his down to eternal misery and woe. I hope you learn something from this episode and feel encouraged to stay strong. Ellora, I sure love you! 🫶🏻🥹🩵 Make sure to turn on notifications so you never miss a new episode! 191 Dwelling in Your Heart & Mind: The Power of the Holy Ghost (feat. Ellora Nielson)

In today’s episode, my younger sister and I talk about the Holy Ghost and feeling the spirit. We discuss D&C 8:2-3 which talks about how the spirit speaks truth to your heart and mind. There are lots of ways to feel the spirit: someone may feel an intense pounding of their heart; someone else may feel chills/tingles; someone may get an inspired message in their mind; another may feel at peace; and one individual may feel warmth in their chest … the list goes on. And isn’t it wonderful that the Holy Ghost speaks to us individually, in the way that works best for us? I challenge you to ponder how the spirit speaks to you, and if you’re not sure, pray and ask for guidance. My sister and I both have a testimony that Heavenly Father loves you personally and has a plan for you. Turn to Him and He will lead and guide you. 🩵 Make sure to turn on notifications so you never miss a new episode! 190 CLWK: The Suitcase

Okay so you know how sometimes people say (myself included), “you do *not* want to miss this episode!” Ladies and gentlemen … that does not apply today. 🫣 Perhaps you’re wondering, “Kyra, why are you encouraging me to skip this episode?” To that response, I would say, “Great question! Let me explain!” 1- The audio quality isn’t going to make anyone jealous. I had to use my phone again (which is actually amazing if you think about how far technology has come), but that means there is extra background noise and you can hear my breaths more pronounced. 2- There is nothing of substance in this episode. Nothing inspiring, no crazy story, no miraculous experience, no new insight … nothing quote-worthy, I promise. Just a simple story of a silly mistake I made. 3- If you are new to my podcast (maybe you have listened to a couple of episodes or maybe this is your first exposure), then please go listen to one of my better episodes. Don’t let this random and sporadic eight minutes turn you away forever. Down below, there is a link to my table of contents. If you scroll to the bottom, you’ll see episodes I commonly recommend to people. Listen to one of those, and skip this one. Kapeesh? 🫡🤩 If you’ve read all of that and still want to listen, do so at your own risk (of wasting 8 minutes of your life haha). Don’t say I didn’t warn you! 😉 Make sure to turn on notifications so you never miss a new episode! (Those will be better, I promise!) 189 Last-Minute Light: BYU Devo Gems

Okay so I know I do this a lot (haha sorry), but I waited til last minute … again. This time, the audio quality suffered, and I recorded a brief intro and outro using my phone’s microphone. Forgive me! Although this episode is last minute, I spent way longer than I wanted preparing and editing it. You’re worth it though. 😉🩵🫶🏻 I shared some quotes from varying BYU devotionals (and a general conference talk), and I hope you enjoy! First clip: “Flashes of Light” by Steven J. 188 The Prodigal Attorney: A Story That’s Inspired Thousands

I read this article over two weeks ago, and it touched me deeply. I actually felt the spirit 3-4 times while reading it! Wanting others to hear this miraculous story, I saved the link to later record a podcast episode. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I do and can feel God’s love for us, His children, as you listen. So many times it is clear that God was in the details and by divine design, the necessary and needed things happened in order for Dusty Smith to find the gospel and later return. I’m grateful Heavenly Father cares about us individually, and I promise you that as you turn to Him, you’ll see miracles in your life and feel His presence. 187 How to Be an Exceptional FSY Counselor: Expert Tips From Over 35 Counselors-Part Four

WE MADE IT! Wahoooo! But for real, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t feeling relieved that I’m done with this project. I’ve spent close to 30 hours (or more I don’t even know!) preparing the idea, making the google form, sending the form out to people (and reminding them haha), reading the responses, organizing the responses, putting people’s names by their answer, thinking about what I wanted to contribute, and then recording, editing, and posting these episodes. My hope and prayer is that these episodes will answer questions that will help future counselors be the best FSY counselor they can be. It would also be awesome if these episodes inspired people to apply to FSY! If these episodes aren’t applicable to you but remind you of someone else, please share with them! Here are the questions I will be going over in part four: 1. How can counselors best support and work with their co-counselors? What should they do if they don’t get along? 2. What advice would you give on how to handle situations where a youth was struggling spiritually, emotionally, or socially? 3. If you could give only one piece of advice to a new counselor, what would it be? 4. Do you have any tips on how to lead effective discussions? 5. What advice would you give about ministering to the one? 6. What strategies did you use to stay motivated and energized throughout the week and summer? 7. What do you think is the most important part of your job? (Reprise of this question, final and concluding thoughts) Thank you for sticking with me as I went through ALL the questions. 186 How to Be an Exceptional FSY Counselor: Expert Tips From Over 35 Counselors-Part Three

Hello hello! Here’s part three of the miniseries about becoming an amazing FSY counselor! To be real with you, I thought part one went well, part two crashed and burned (that was on me, plus the topics weren’t as fun haha), and part three (this one!) went amazing! I’m really happy with how it turned out, and I believe the insight and advice in this episode is super valuable. Here are the questions I went over in this episode: 1. What did you do as an FSY counselor that you think the youth appreciated? 2. Any tips and tricks on how you remembered names? 3. What advice would you give for preparing to teach lessons that resonate with the youth? 4. How did you adapt when an activity or lesson didn’t go as planned? 5. What strategies did you use to help youth feel included and engaged in activities? Watch out for part four (and five???) coming out soon. We still have some solid questions left that you won’t want to miss! Here is a link to my table of contents: https://docs.google.com/docume...Thank you soooo much for listening. 185 How to Be an Exceptional FSY Counselor: Expert Tips From Over 35 Counselors-Part Two

Well friends, we are on to part two of this miniseries! In case you missed part one, I highly encourage you to start with that one first as it sets the foundation for the questions I will be going through today. Here are today’s questions: 1. What was hard about being a counselor, and how did you overcome it? 2. What was something hard that you did not expect and would want to warn other potential counselors about? 3. What tips do you have for balancing your personal needs (like rest and meals) with the demands of being a counselor? My original goal was to answer eight questions today, but I only made it through three of them (#awkward). I’m not going to lie, this episode is not as fun or entertaining as the last one was, so I apologize in advance. I’m hoping to liven things up again for part three. (I come from the future … part three is much better than part two. Just fyi!) In the next episode, I’ll be answering these questions: 1. What did you do as an FSY counselor that you think the youth appreciated? 2. Any tips and tricks on how you remembered names? 3. What advice would you give for preparing to teach lessons that resonate with the youth? 4. How did you adapt when an activity or lesson didn’t go as planned? 5. 184 How to Be an Exceptional FSY Counselor: Expert Tips From Over 35 Counselors-Part One

Back in November, I had a prompting to create a podcast episode with tips, tricks, and advice on how to be a great FSY counselor. Because I have done it the last three years, I feel I have some good advice! Quickly after coming up with this idea (which I believe to be from God), I thought about how it would be an even cooler (and more reputable) resource if I got advice from as many counselors as I could. The next day, I created a google form and sent it out to as many people as I could think of. I asked them to share it too, and I ended up with over 35 responses! As many of you know, I invited people to reach out to me to record a podcast episode about their experience (not giving advice but telling stories and bearing their testimony) at FSY. I had six people reach out to me from that, and I believe that is another reason why I felt prompted to follow through on this idea! The form has 22 free response questions in addition to some demographic information, so you can imagine that there is a lot to get through! But isn’t that exciting?! I’m pumped if you can’t tell! Because I knew that I would not be able to create a solo episode with all the insights I’ve gathered, I decided to split it into three parts. (Though it will actually be more than three parts … I’ll explain later haha!) Unfortunately, I know that oftentimes “part one” of a series is listened to most, so I asked ChatGPT for help deciding which questions to answer in each part. For part one, this is what it recommended (and what I answer in this episode): 1. What inspired you to become an FSY counselor? 2. Why should someone be an FSY counselor? 3. What was the most rewarding part of being an FSY counselor? 4. What advice would you give about preparing to go to FSY (spiritually, emotionally, and/or physically?) 5. What advice would you give about how to make the most of the experience? 6. What do you think was the most important part of your job? 7. How can future counselors ensure they leave a lasting positive impact on the youth they work with? I hope that this resource is a helpful tool in preparing you for your AMAZING summer at FSY. I also hope you listen to all of the parts because the advice I’ve gathered is seriously top notch! Lastly, please share with friends and family if this episode might be applicable to them. I hope these episodes will stand the test of time and will be helpful for all future FSY counselors, no matter the year. Thank you! The goal: Set the tone and share inspiring and foundational insights that will motivate you to want to learn more. *Thank you to the counselors who took the time to fill out the google form. It is much appreciated!!!* Here is a link to my table of contents: https://docs.google.com/docume...Thank you soooo much for listening. 183 “For The Former Things Are Passed Away”

Happy happy Easter! Since General Conference, I’ve been wanting to be more intentional about Easter. Jesus Christ’s resurrection was the most significant event in the history of the world, and oftentimes, I let Easter pass by without thinking too much about Christ or its true meaning. Well no more! I am grateful that because of Jesus Christ, the best is yet to come. One day, the sorrows of the world will be no more and will no longer serve a purpose. Revelation 21:4 speaks of this upcoming time, “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. And there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.” As an extra resource to make Easter more meaningful, I listened to the devotional below by Neal A. Maxwell a couple days ago and absolutely loved it. It is one of the best devotionals I’ve heard that made the atonement seem REAL to me. I HIGHLY recommend! “In Him All Things Hold Together” by Elder Maxwell Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/... Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episo... 182 CLWK: The Research Conference

Welcome to my new series of “College Life With Kyra” aka “CLWK!” Now that I’ve gotten into graduate school, I’m officially in college once again. I thought it would be fun to chronicle my experience as a new series and the acronym “CLWK” is kind of fun, haha! This episode is all about a research conference I went to last week. I also presented, and that was fun! (Really I just wanted to put it on my CV/academic resume.) Stay tuned for future “College Life With Kyra” episodes. They’ll be more popular once I actually move up north to attend BYU. I’m sure I’ll have plenty to say about that upcoming adventure!
