    IA MIX 400 Hoavi

INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > https://inverted-audio.com/mix/hoavi For our 400th mix, we wanted something that felt genuinely singular. Kirill Vasin, aka Hoavi, delivers exactly that — a mix composed entirely of music made by him and his students. Hoavi is a teacher of music composition, and the philosophy that underpins his work bleeds into everything he touches. His recent album Architectonics on Peak Oil draws on the interlocking rhythmic traditions of gamelan, approaching form and timbre with the rigour of a composer and the intuition of a producer. That same spirit of communal practice is at the heart of IA MIX 400. Read our interview with Hoavi and listen to one of the most considered mixes in this series' history.

READ > https://inverted-audio.com/premiere-tobias-solid-state/ ‎ Logistic Records celebrate their 30th anniversary with a special reissue of four tracks from veteran of the scene Tobias. that were initially released across two EPs in 2006 and 2007 - Street Knowledge and Dial. 'Solid State' epitomises the minimal yet vivacious aesthetic of the release. 11:68PM - Solid State [Craft Services]

READ > https://inverted-audio.com/premiere-1168pm-solid-state/ Berlin’s DIY imprint Craft Services launches with Solid State from founder 11:68PM. Rooted in dancefloor sensibilities, the track delivers stripped-back, elegant house built from chopped vocals, chunky rhythms and warm pads. Variant - Someplace Else [Field Records]

READ > https://inverted-audio.com/variant-the-setting-sun-field-records Field Records continue their run of essential archival vinyl reissues with a beautifully remastered edition of Stephen Hitchell’s 2009 ambient dub techno masterpiece under his Variant alias, The Setting Sun. Best known as the driving force behind Echospace Detroit and celebrated for his work as cv313, Intrusion and Soultek, Hitchell stands as one of dub techno’s defining producers - an artist equally fluent in deep rhythmic propulsion and pure tonal immersion. As Variant, he distils that full spectrum into an ambient-with-teeth suite that finally receives the vinyl pressing it has long deserved. Originally released as a CD-only album on Echospace Detroit, The Setting Sun was constructed through an intensely tactile process. Hitchell drew from field recordings of late-night storms in Berlin and train journeys through Narita Airport in Japan, blending them with outboard synthesis, samplers and hardware recording techniques - with no computers involved at any stage. That physical approach to sound design radiates throughout the album: towering chords rich with harmonic overtones, surface noise used as an expressive element, and subtle layers of distortion that deepen the narrative weight of each piece.

    IA MIX 399 Rob Clouth

INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > https://inverted-audio.com/mix/rob-clouth/ Rob Clouth returns with Cicada, a four-track EP that signals a shift toward a faster, more instinctive creative process, accompanied by an IA MIX that blurs the line between DJing and production. Built in Ableton at 160–170 BPM, the mix layers over 25 tracks using edits, stem separation and rapid transitions, resulting in a dense, high-energy session that reflects his current maximalist approach. In conversation with Ryan Pivovar, Clouth discusses moving away from rigid concepts toward a more playful, process-driven workflow. Rather than over-curating, he’s focused on momentum, embracing spontaneity and letting ideas flow more freely. The interview also explores his collaboration with Max Cooper, his thoughts on AI as both a creative tool and a challenge, and Noise Canvas, his self-built sound design software. Together, Cicada and the mix capture an artist loosening control, trusting instinct, and building toward a future album. @robclouth

READ > https://inverted-audio.com/premiere-pod-edward-richards-temporal-loop-transcendance-pugi_s-mariana-mix A deep, ritualistic techno journey from Melbourne’s Kinetic Vision, Temporal Loop Transcendance sees POD & Edward Richards’ psychedelic original pushed into murky club territory by Pugilist. REVIEW > https://inverted-audio.com/review/andre-zimmer-swamp-circuit Canadian producer Andre Zimmer debuts on Craigie Knowes with Swamp Circuit, a four-track EP born from London-based hardware jams. Blending UK breaks, electro, bassline and flashes of 90s rave energy, the record balances punch and emotion with confident precision. From the snappy drive of “Pushing My Buttons” to the high-energy breaks of the title track and “Flashing Red,” Zimmer navigates club intensity and after-hours atmosphere. Closing cut “Broken News” fuses infectious electro with a hypnotic 303 line, delivering tension, release and euphoric momentum.

Conor CC - Air [Origin CC Records]

READ > https://inverted-audio.com/premiere-conor-cc-air Following the rush of Hidden Allure, Conor CC returns to Origin CC with Air - a darker, more deliberate cut trading peak-time speed for low-slung tension. Rolling at 120 BPM, the track pairs break-driven rhythms with a thick, rumbling low-end. Distorted vocals, echoing mids and razor-sharp percussion lock into a groove that feels both hypnotic and physical.

  17. 484

Michael Claus - Surveillance Species [Club Moniker]

READ > https://inverted-audio.com/premiere-michael-claus-surveillance-species Michael Claus’ latest release Static Drift on Club Moniker leans firmly into heavy, propulsive techno, blending clattering percussion, submerged synths and glitchy rave energy. Written over three years during his move from the Bay Area to New York, the record marks a shift from his moodier dub-influenced work toward peak-time club sonics, with standout track “Surveillance Species” delivering a focused, exhilarating techno workout.

READ > https://inverted-audio.com/premiere-rafael-anton-irisarri-signals-from-a-distant-afterglow We’re proud to premiere ‘Signals from a Distant Afterglow’, the emotional centrepiece from Rafael Anton Irisarri’s forthcoming album Points of Inaccessibility (out 6th February). Built from slow-burning bowed strings and smouldering drones, the track reaches its most affecting moment through the ghostly vocals of Karen Vogt - fragile, distant and deeply emotive. It’s dark ambient at its most intimate, quietly overwhelming and rich with sorrow, memory and consolation.

    UFO95 - Pulsation 3 [Mord]

READ > https://inverted-audio.com/premiere-ufo95-pulsation-3 French producer UFO95 returns with A Brutalist Dystopian Society on MORD, an uncompromising techno album inspired by the stark power of Brutalist architecture and its wider social meaning. Drawing on themes of protest, tension and failed utopias, the record distils heaviness, minimalism and raw energy into fourteen razor-sharp live-driven cuts. Capturing the industrial intensity of Berlin’s Tresor, it’s a tough, hypnotic and deeply physical statement from one of techno’s most formidable live performers.

    Peryl - Nullity [Augmented Research]

READ > https://inverted-audio.com/premiere-peryl-nullity/ Berlin-based techno producer @peryl_music lands on German record label @augmented_research to deliver his latest album Phase Alterations, an exploration in the highly detailed world of analogue synthesis. Nullity distills the sound of Phase Alterations into (just shy of) 6 subterranean minutes of brooding drone work, aquatic, distorted synths and taut bursts of crackle and static, all underpinned by the kind of relentless 4/4 drive that sits well in any dark basement complete with a high-quality sound system.

Ben Kaczor - Feeling Of Wind & Home [Stólar]

READ > https://inverted-audio.com/premiere-ben-kaczor-feeling-of-wind-home Swiss producer Ben Kaczor returns with 'Peace In Mind', a deep and driving four-track EP on Berlin-based label Stólar, featuring a remix from Spanish producer Tibi Dabo. Following his standout 'To Baby Bones' EP on Lola Haro’s Small Steps imprint, Kaczor continues to refine a sound that balances emotional weight with crisp drum programming and immersive chords, landing perfectly between dreamy atmospheres and club-focused precision. Premiering today, 'Feeling Of Wind & Home' is the EP's standout track: clean, clinical drum programming delivered with signature finesse, offset by a harsher clap that adds bite and urgency. The groove is tight yet spacious, allowing the low-end to breathe while each percussive detail lands with intent, as Kaczor builds tension patiently rather than forcing release.

Jonnnah - Consume Me [Second End Records]

READ > https://inverted-audio.com/premiere-jonnnah-consume-me French producer Pierre Paumier returns as @jonnnah with his new LP What They Left on Second End Records, a wintry blend of dub techno, bass, ambient, and slowed breakbeat textures. Among its standout moments, “Consume Me” drifts from a foggy dub techno haze into an understated downtempo groove, carrying a subtle trip-hop mood that feels both welcoming and quietly mysterious. It plays like an interlude in an open-ended game world - more about wandering through its soft, uncharted spaces than reaching any particular destination.

Renato Fiorito - Sei Di Nuovo Qui [Superpang]

READ > https://inverted-audio.com/premiere-renato-fiorito-sei-di-nuovo-qui Electro-acoustic composer Renato Fiorito returns with Bastimento, a site-specific work built from field recordings captured along the dramatic coastline of Mount Bulgheria in Italy’s Cilento National Park. Developed as a three-act performance across three distinct coastal locations, the album channels the swelling Mediterranean through narrow inlets and resonant natural chambers, exploring isolation, landscape and the power of place. From the cavernous drift of “Sei Di Nuovo Qui” to the album’s icy, dissolving finale, Bastimento traces three evolving soundworlds that move from warmth to starkness - a mesmerising immersion in sea, space and echo. @renfiorito

Yamaan - Night Flight [100% Silk]

READ > https://inverted-audio.com/premiere-yamaan-night-flight Ahead of their 15th anniversary, @100percentsilk have assembled Late Shift Silk, a collection of tracks from a group of mostly new, and some familiar, names to the label. Label favourites such as Charles A.D. and Shine Grooves stand alongside new additions to the roster such as Warden and Dorosoto. The compilation is less a look in the rearview mirror than it is a map of the road ahead.  Japanese producer @yamaan may be familiar to listeners for a 2020 cassette release on Tokyo’s Dotei Records, as well as lush, ambient leaning hip hop as part of CHIYORI × YAMAAN. They kick off ‘Late Shift Silk’ with “Night Flight”, an appropriately low slung slice of airborne techno navigating smooth, star-filled skies. Yamaan’s sound is perfectly suited for night drives across empty, neon-kissed highways running down endless urban sprawl.

Tuxe - Nada A Pulso [Tandera Records]

READ > https://inverted-audio.com/premiere-tuxe-nada-a-pulso Tuxe’s debut EP Cem por Cento (100%) captures an artist shaped by constant movement, blending the distorted basslines and chopped vocals of São Paulo’s queer underground with the tropical rhythms and warm pads of Brazil’s northeast. Written between São Paulo, a Northeast tour, and a run through Europe, the EP feels like an auditory love letter to his journey. Its standout track, “Nada A Pulso,” epitomises this balance between raw and lush, pairing shimmering synths with broken beats, warped basslines, and flickering vocal fragments to create an urgent, percussive energy equally suited to a European basement or a Brazilian beach. @iagotuxe

Dudal & De Roover - b [Viernulvier Records]

READ > https://inverted-audio.com/premiere-dudal-de-roover-b Pieter Dudal & Adriaan De Roover are set to release their collaborative album "Pivot Rotations" next month - a continuously mixed collage of tape loops largely taken from recordings made at live shows in Ghent, Brussels, and Meakusma Festival in Eupen. "b" is the third track on the album, although its arrival becomes unnoticeable during the listening experience, as it drifts seamlessly between motifs and textures. The piece, and much of the album by that matter, is smothered in the warm fuzz of tape hiss - providing a comfortable constant throughout the piece for the mind to drift into.

The record expands on material drawn from Klein’s 2024 release "Confidant" and her collaboration with the Sabar Ensemble Diop from Saint-Louis, Senegal. Our pick from the release is "Kassem Mosse’s Snooze Mix" - a silky smooth, low-slung house excursion stretching over eleven minutes. The track pulses with Kassem Mosse’s signature beat architecture, tinged with that touch of uncanny beauty that makes his work so distinctive. A mesmerising groove, crisp rim-shots and tapping hi-hats intertwine to form a hypnotic slow burner for the deep-house heads.

    Synalegg - Computer Series 14 [OOH-sounds]

READ > https://inverted-audio.com/premiere-synalegg-computer-series-14 French producer @synalegg returns to @ooh-sounds with Computer Series / Last Run - the final chapter in his radical generative music experiment. Built in Pure Data, Synalegg’s system composes autonomously, creating immersive, unpredictable sound worlds that blur the line between human design and machine logic. The result recalls Autechre’s algorithmic precision, Jimmy Edgar’s Michaux project, and the mechanical curiosity of Aphex Twin’s Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments Pt2 - yet feels entirely its own. Glitching rhythms, fractured harmonics, and fleeting human cadences emerge from the code, forming an uncanny balance between control and surrender. A bold statement on authorship, automation and abstraction —-Computer Series / Last Run closes Synalegg’s exploration of machine-driven composition.

Each side of the record contains its own nuances on the dark, unnerving, and erratic pace of the original track. Dev/Null and Tim Reaper bring a spaced-out pairing of intricately designed fast-paced breaks and stripped-back gloomy reese basslines, neatly punctuated by loosely off-beat stabs swimming in delay and reverb.

READ > https://inverted-audio.com/premiere-tom-of-terram-listensport-madness Following releases from Grischer, Shjva & Pyramid Of Knowledge and Moisk, Munich-based imprint Terra Magica Records return with their eleventh release. This time the spotlight falls on label co-founder Tom of Terram alongside producer Listensport. Our pick from the release is second track ‘Madness’, permeating with acid and live percussion. Sci-fi-tinged sonics light up the track, showcasing the EP’s ability to move both the body and mind. Elsewhere, highlights emerge in the shimmering dub-scapes of the title track, the meditative lift of ‘Spirit’, and RAMZi’s kaleidoscopic remix, each offering a different facet of the crystal.

Black Point - Recursive [FORM@ RECORDS]

READ > https://inverted-audio.com/premiere-black-point-recursive American producer James Cook has quietly built a reputation for unhurried yet deeply considered electronic music. First appearing on Greta Cottage Workshop back in 2013 with his debut CD album 'Sleep Deep, Mountain King' and later stepping out under his Black Point alias for two vinyl releases on Cologne’s revered Out To Lunch, Cook’s productions have always carried a sense of clarity and patience. Long-time readers may remember that in July 2020 we published IA MIX 336 Black Point, a revealing mix and interview that offered insight into both his background in music and production techniques. That mix hinted at the directions he would later explore, and 'EP 2' issued through Tokyo-based @format-records (pronounced "format"), extends that trajectory - gathering fragments of the past decade into a finely detailed four tracker.

    Tauceti - Black Mamba [Denovali]

READ > inverted-audio.com/premiere-tauceti-black-mamba Twenty years charting the fringes of experimental music, German record label Denovali continue their quest with the forthcoming release of 'Guaniyin', the debut full-length from Lyon-based producer Lilou Chelal, better known as Tauceti...Our pick for the premiere is 'Black Mamba', a glacial drone plunging into serpentine architectures. Tauceti conjures a cold-blooded choreography of oscillating sine waves, unfurling with the grace of a reptilian creature. Subterranean drones writhe beneath layers of tension, invoking the primordial rules of survival. @1tauceti @denovali

Rafael Anton Irisarri - Reprisal [Black Knoll]

READ > inverted-audio.com/premiere-rafael-anton-irisarri-reprisal Marking its 10 Year Anniversary, NYC-based record label Black Knoll reissues 'A Fragile Geography', the landmark ambient album from American producer Rafael Anton Irisarri - a spectral cartography of loss and reconstruction forged in the aftermath of devastation...Among its six windswept movements, 'Reprisal' is our pick. Feeling like a monochrome drift of processed resonance, the piece unfolds like a ghostly transmission filtered through decaying tape. Celestial resonances blur into low-end rumbles, choirs flicker beneath distant bells, drifting away memories of a past life. This is ambient music at its most human, like a slow dissolve into psychology's dimmest corners, where geography is no longer a place, but a feeling. @irisarri @black-knoll-studio

See Signals Sea Noise - Dianita Live @S.P.A. // 15 June 2024 (Preview)

READ > https://inverted-audio.com/see-signals-sea-noise-cassette-dianita CASSETTE > https://inverted-audio.store/products/see-signals-sea-noise-dianita-live-s-p-a-15-june-2024 Limited-edition cassette produced in collaboration with Inverted Audio and Zurich University of the Arts. It features a 47-minute live recording by Swiss sound artist @didianita, drawn from the Computer Signals Archive - an extraordinary collection of over 50,000 hours of underwater recordings captured since 2012 off the coasts of Spitsbergen and Helgoland as part of a long-term climate research project. Initiated by Swiss visual artist Hannes Rickli and sound artist Valentina Vuksic, the archive documents not only the ambient hum of the ocean but also the inner workings of the observatory itself - from the power draw of instruments to shifting electromagnetic fields - creating a unique blend of marine soundscapes and machine noise. Freely accessible under a Creative Commons license, See signals sea noise has become a fertile ground for artistic exploration. Musicians including Ben Kaczor, Dianita, Lb Honne, and Hatarii are reimagining this material through performances, installations, and workshops. A standout is Dianita’s live set, recorded during Art Basel in the courtyard of urban winery S.P.A., now presented in full on this cassette. Marking the first physical artefact of the project’s next phase, @seesignals opens the door to curated events, club nights, interactive exhibits, and special commissions, bridging scientific rigour with artistic imagination and inviting audiences to listen differently - to the sea, to machines, and to the act of listening itself. See signals sea noise is supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Ernst Göhner Foundation.
