Mike Sales, creator and writer of the graphic novel Disturbin’ the Peace, a story about family, community, and what it takes to keep your loved ones safe. From his website: “Best described as ‘The Wire meets Marvel Comics’, Disturbin’ The Peace tells the story of Nefertiti, a single mom who splits her time raising her son and looking out for the folks in her neighborhood. But she breaks a gang truce to save a young girl and sets off a chain of events that puts her whole family in jeopardy.”Mike is a creator with an imagination that is only matched by his knowledge. Talking about his favorite comics with him was an educational and entertaining experience for me. Listen in and I’m certain it will be an educational and entertaining experience for you as well. If you’d like to learn more about Mike or purchase his book, go here, here, or here. And remember, as always, like, review, and share wherever you’re listening. It helps out a lot! I must first preface this episode with a small warning. There are a few significant spoilers ahead. I know there are always spoilers on this show, but I thought that at least one of them is significant enough that I need to throw out a warning. The big one is from a comic that was released in 2010 though, so, you know, do what you will with that information.Anyway, episode four is shorter than the last three because my guest is a succinct man who knows how to say what he wants to say. Robert Junker has been a comic book reader for a long time and knows a good story when he reads one, so if you’d be so kind, take fifteen minutes or so and give this podcast a listen. As always, please rate and review wherever you’re listening as that helps the podcast out a lot. And if you’d like to be a guest, find me on the socials and let me know. I’m @aestueve everywhere. This is a public episode. In this week’s episode, Bobby Brown, whose Threads handle is @bobbyreadscomics, and I discuss everything from Luke Cage to bullies to the current political climate in the United States. We also discuss what it’s like to grow up with few people to talk to about our mutual love of comics. Still, we manage to laugh. Please join us as we tackle such heavy hitting issues as Bobby’s favorite comics as well (which, I must remind you, is the whole point of this podcast). If you enjoy this podcast, please like, subscribe, rate, and review wherever you’re listening. This week I sit down with Jeff Stanford, known across the internet as @nerdspresso. Look him up, he’s everywhere. One might say he’s prolific. A great writer, a great scholar of pop culture, and a great guy, Jeff shares some anecdotes about growing up, living in Florida, spending summers in Iowa, and hanging out in comic book shops when his traveling salesman dad took him on trips. Oh yeah. We also discuss his three favorite comic books. You know, the whole point of this show. So if any of this sounds intriguing, why don’t you give it a listen, subscribe and share? And remember to come back in two weeks on New Comic Book Day to hear about someone else’s Issues. If you’d like to be a guest, find me, AE Stueve, on Threads, Instagram, or Substack, and let me know. In the first episode of Issues, I sit down with Eric Shaefges, a comic book collector with some keen insights into why we love comics, why they’re so important as a storytelling device, and how some of the best superhero stories aren’t even really about superheroes. We also manage to talk about literary themes, a comic book that is extremely relevant right now, romantic love in stories, and Disney’s Ducktales. It’s 25 minutes of comic booky goodness folks. You won’t want to miss out.To keep up with Eric, find him on social media @schaefges and join his Patreon Printnplay.Don’t forget to like and subscribe wherever you listen. This is a public episode. AE Stueve's Issues is almost here
I probably know what you’re thinking. “Do we really need another podcast from a middle-aged white dude?” also “Do we really need one about #$@!ing comic books?”To be fair, probably not.Just, you know, give me a moment to explain.Though you’ve probably heard this before, my comic book podcast is going to be a little different. It all started with a humble post on Threads that received far more traction than humble me thought was possible.Due to the number of responses I received and the content of those responses, I decided to ask if anyone wanted to talk a little bit more about this subject. Once more, I was surprised by what happened.Several comic book fans wanted to join in on the fun. Yep. They wanted to talk about their favorite single issue of any comic book ever. Thus, AE Stueve’s Issues was born.Let me tell you, I have so many issues that it’s probably going to run several episodes. So don’t forget to like and subscribe and tell your friends. And hey, if you feel passionately about a single issue of any comic book ever, hit me up on the socials @aestueve and maybe you too can be a guest. This is a public episode. If you would like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit aestueve.substack.com
