The story of Samson and Delilah from the Book of Judges in the Bible encapsulates the dynamics of a toxic relationship. Samson, the hero of the Israelites, falls in love with Delilah. Their relationship is toxic mainly because Delilah betrays Samson’s trust for monetary gain. Despite his strong physical power, Samson is vulnerable to Delilah’s manipulation. He shares the secret of his strength (his uncut hair) with her, demonstrating how his emotions and trust are not reciprocated or respected. Delilah then betrays him by revealing this secret to the Philistines, leading to Samson's downfall. This story can be found in Judges 16:4-21. Overcoming Failures Part 2
Overcoming Failures Part 1 & 2 You have Kingdom Value- Week 5/Day 32 & 33 During this episode of God Resilient with Dr. Latisha Webb, let’s 1. 🛐Pray 2. 💭Process how a lack of recognition can make us feel undervalued 3. 📖Pursue God’s Word in Mat 9:16-22; Mat 5:28 Unachievable Standards Striving for perfection or unrealistic societal standards can result in a sense of failure when these standards are not met. In the New Testament of the Bible, the young man often referred to as "the rich young ruler" sought to be perfect. This individual approached Jesus as described in the books of Matthew (19:16-22), Mark (10:17-22), and Luke (18:18-23). He asked Jesus what he should do to inherit eternal life and claimed to have kept all the commandments since his youth. In response, Jesus told him that to be perfect, he should sell all his possessions, give to the poor, and follow Him. The young man became sorrowful at this directive, as he was very wealthy and could not part with his possessions. The story serves to illustrate that perfection, as per Jesus' teachings, involves a complete commitment and willingness to give up earthly treasures to follow Him. It is also a lesson that moral perfection under the law is impossible, and that the young man's reliance on his own efforts to achieve righteousness was misplaced—as Christian doctrine teaches that salvation and perfection are through faith in Jesus Christ, not by human effort alone. All Scripture References are from the Holman Christian Standard Bible. —— Become a God Resilient Member If you were blessed by this episode, then become a subscribed member of Spotify for just $2.99/mo. Validate Me You have Kingdom Value- Week 5/Day 30 During this episode of God Resilient with Dr. Latisha Webb, let’s 1. 🛐Pray 2. 💭Process how a lack of recognition can make us feel undervalued 3. 📖Pursue God’s Word in 1 Sam 16 Lack of Recognition Not receiving acknowledgment or appreciation in personal or professional spheres can make individuals feel undervalued. Recognition and value are ultimately given by God and in contrast to human judgment and timing. God does not look at the things people look at. God looks at the heart. David’s youth and occupation tending the sheep may have been insignificant in comparison to his brothers’ roles and attributes. When Samuel anointed David in front of his brothers it showed God’s insight into David’s heart and potential, something that had not been recognized by others. Dismantle the Trap of Comparisons
Dismantle The Trap of Comparisons You have Kingdom Value- Week 5/Day 29 During this episode of God Resilient with Dr. Latisha Webb, let’s 1. 🛐Pray 2. 💭Process how comparing ourselves with others can trap us in self-righteousness 3. 📖Pursue God’s Word in Luke 18:9-14 Comparison with Others Constantly comparing oneself to others, especially in the era of social media where only the highlights of others' lives are often presented, can lead to feelings of inadequacy. On the other hand, making comparisons with others can lead to self-righteousness. Justification & Humility Justification in the biblical context refers to the act of God declaring a sinner to be righteous on account of their faith in Jesus Christ. This righteousness is not earned by any works or merit on the part of the individual but is entirely a gift of God's grace through faith. Humility is fundamentally acknowledging one's own sinfulness and need for God's mercy. It is the opposite of self-righteousness, which claims that one can earn God's favor through personal merit or good works. The concept of humility as a pathway to justification is seen throughout the Bible, notably in the teachings of Jesus. Humility vs Self Righteousness Our humility makes us valuable in the Kingdom of God. This concept is a key aspect of Christian doctrine, setting it apart from legalistic perspectives that equate justification with adherence to the law or ritualistic practices. Instead, it affirms that no one can boast before God (Ephesians 2:8-9) and that justification is possible only through a humble, faith-filled reliance on the saving work of Jesus Christ. All Scripture References are from the Holman Christian Standard Bible. —— Become a God Resilient Member If you were blessed by this episode, then become a subscribed member of Spotify for just $2.99/mo. Overcoming Negative Self-Talk
Overcoming Negative Self-Image You have Kingdom Value- Week 5/Day 28 During this episode of God Resilient with Dr. Latisha Webb, let’s 1. 🛐Pray 2. 💭Process how Moses’ negative self-image impacted his perception of his Kingdom value 3. 📖Pursue God’s Word in Exodus 4:1-17 What is Kingdom value? Kingdom value contrasts with earthly or worldly values. The world values individual success, power, wealth, and pleasure. Jesus teaches us about the Kingdom of God. Have you ever wondered what value you bring to the table? A person might perceive themselves as devalued due to a variety of psychological, social, and personal factors. One reason why a person cannot perceive their value is negative self-image. What is Negative Self-Image? Persistent negative self-talk and self-criticism can lead to a poor self-image. This can be influenced by personality, past experiences, or mental health issues such as depression or anxiety. Moses had a negative self-image. He told God that he has never been eloquent. In addition, Moses considered himself slow and hesitant in speech. Despite of Moses negative self image, God saw Moses’ kingdom value. God qualified the called. He does not call the qualified. God empowers those He calls to accomplish a divine mission. God uses imperfect people to fulfill His purpose.d Here are three examples why God chose Moses: A Unique Position Moses was raised in Egypt and also witnessed the suffering of the Israelites first-hand, placing him in a unique position to have empathy and understanding of both Egyptian and Hebrew cultures and perspectives. A Powerful Transformation Moses’ initial reluctance and self-doubt, highlighted by his speech impediment and hesitation, provides a powerful narrative of transformation and shows how God can use even those who do not feel ready or capable. A Deliberate Choice The Bible often depicts God's actions as part of a greater divine plan. God's choosing of Moses, an Israelite brought up in Pharaoh's court, suggests a deliberate choice that aligns with God’s overarching plan for His people. The same reasons why God chose Moses, we can consider why God chooses us. Think about our lives and what you feel called to do. Let’s ponder three questions: 1. What is your unique position? 2. How has God transformed you? 3. How is God using you in His overarching plan? A Mode of Life The Requirements of God- Week 4/Day 25 During this episode of God Resilient with Dr. Latisha Webb, let’s 1. 🛐Pray 2. 💭Process and reflect on meeting the requirement of following God’s instructions, 3. 📖Pursue God’s Word in Deut 10:12, Deut 5:33 Deut 5:33 “Follow the whole instruction the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live, prosper, and have a long life in the land you will possess.” To live a life engaging in a continuous series of biblical actions means that one must seek to reflect the character of God as revealed in the Bible and the example of Jesus Christ. Here are five modes of action to take: 1. Spirituality: One must prioritize a personal relationship with God through prayer, worship, and regular devotion. 2. Morality: Christians must live according to all the moral commandments in God’s Word, such as the Ten Commandments, emphasizing honesty, integrity, chastity, and humility. 3. Compassion: Being a compassionate person means displaying love and kindness to others, following the teachings of Jesus about loving one's neighbor and caring for the poor. 4. Community: Do not forsake the fellowship with other saints by participating in a community of believers for mutual support, instruction, and fellowship. 5. Obedience: Christianity lies in adhering to the will of God as expressed in the Word, often including the avoidance of sin and the pursuit of a holy life.
