    Life Stories | Ep.250 | Derry Suter

This week on Life Stories, I sit down with someone I’ve beentrying to pin down for a long time - performance therapist Derry Suter. Derry’s journey is nothing short of incredible. From growingup in a mining village with dreams of making the Olympics himself, to having his career cut short by injury… and then completely reinventing his life working with some of the greatest athletes the UK has ever produced. We get into it all - how he went from knocking on doors fora chance, to becoming a trusted name behind the scenes in elite sport. Working with Olympic legends like Jessica Ennis-Hill, being part of Kelly Holmes’ historic double, supporting Ashes-winning England cricket, and now helping shape the career of superstar Keeley Hodgkinson. But what really stood out to me in this conversation wasn’tjust the success - it’s how Derry does what he does. We talk about: Why trust is everything when athletes put their careers inyour handsThe unseen role of therapists in world-class performanceThe importance of happiness and environment in winning atthe highest levelWhat separates good athletes from the truly eliteThe reality of working inside Premier League football andOlympic sport There are some amazing behind-the-scenes stories in here -from the Olympic Village in 2012, to working inside top football clubs - but also some seriously valuable lessons for anyone trying to perform at a highlevel, in any field.

Life Stories | Ep.249 | Dr Harvinder Power

This week on Life Stories, I sat down with Dr HarvinderPower. He started out as a doctor, right in the middle of the COVIDpandemic, thrown into the NHS at one of the toughest times in recent history. But what he experienced early on changed his perspective. Instead of spending most of his time with patients, he found himself stuck behind a desk, dealingwith admin, missing out on the very reason he went into medicine. That frustration led him to make a huge decision -  walking away from a secure clinical career to step into the unknown and build something of his own. Now, as co-founder and CEO of Motix, Harvinder is on amission to transform how clinics operate using AI -  helping them reduce admin, scale sustainably, and ultimately give clinicians more time with their patients. In this conversation, we go deep into:– The reality of leaving a “safe” career path– Building a startup from scratch with no guarantees– The early mistakes founders make (and how to fix them)– What sales really means -  and why it’s not what you think– How AI is set to reshape healthcare over the next 3–5years This is a story about risk, learning fast, and backing yourself when there’s no clear path ahead.

We alsotalk about the shift in private practice, the growing demand for faster, higher-quality care, and why patients are becoming more invested than ever in their own health. But what really stood out to me was Tom’s story. From beinga visually impaired athlete to representing England, playing in World Cup finals, and now working as a physio in elite environments – it’s an incredible journey. We talk about identity, resilience, learning to embrace challenges, and how those experiences shaped the way he now treats patients. There’s also an honest conversation about the value ofhealthcare, why physios often undervalue themselves, and how the industry needs to evolve without losing its core – empathy, communication, and trust. Loads of insight in this one – whether you’re in healthcare, sport, or just interested in how people build meaningful careers and overcome adversity. Hope you enjoy it as much as I didFull Episode out now
