LL027: Finding Your Unique Genius and Talent Part 2
In the 27th episode of the Live Limitless podcast, I chat once again with Nancy Marmolejo of talentandgenius.com. This is part 2 of the Finding Your Unique Genius and Talent workshop episode. Nancy Marmolejo teaches entrepreneurs, experts, and teams how to tap into their unique genius and use it to position themselves as trusted authorities. Dubbed a “professional paradigm shifter”, Nancy helps people understand all they bring to the table, especially the parts of themselves they can’t see. Since 2003, Nancy’s business consulting has helped clients from around the world expand their reach and impact. As a social media influencer, she’s known for her authentic and relatable style. We do something extra cool in this podcast. Instead of a typical interview where I ask Nancy all the questions, we turn this around and Nancy gives me a live “coaching call”. I call these “workshop” episodes. It’s like a live case study because instead of Nancy telling us about what she does, she actually shows us what she does by helping me find my genius! This is part two. If you’re new here, I’d recommend listening to part 1 first. I also recommend downloading her free eBook Personal Brand: reINVENTED. In this episode, we dig deeper into what I’m all about. We take what we learned in episode 26 and expand it into a sort of mission statement. It’s called the Love-Hate-Create message. Here’s what we came up with for me, although I still may need to refine it further. I love helping people experience new things so that they lead healthier, happier, and more exciting lives. It drives me crazy to see people put limits on themselves, thinking that they don’t have the time, money, connections, or expertise to do the things they dream of. This isn’t true. What holds most people back are self-imposed thoughts and beliefs. So I created a platform to help you explore life’s possibilities and live limitless. You can learn more about Nancy at www.talentandgenius.com. In this episode, we talk about: What my love-hate-create message is, How to refine your personal brand, How to find your “mission statement, How to answer the “What do you do?” question, How to start getting known and recognized, and more… And Remember…Even though this is a live coaching session with me, you’ll be able to follow along and think about your own answers! LL 020: Turning a Passion into a Business with Sam Hunter
In the 20th episode of the Live Limitless podcast, I chat with Sam Hunter of www.huntersdesignstudio.com. Sam went from a 25-year career in IT to a full-time quilt pattern designer, fibre artist, and entrepreneur. Ever since she was a child (she started sewing at the age of 7 and quilting at the age of 20), Sam wanted to be an artist but peer pressure encouraged her to choose a more “stable” career, which is what brought her to graduating with a degree in electric engineering. Although Sam certainly doesn’t regret her IT experience (as a single mother, it paid the bills), she still longed for the life of an artist. Then, at the humble age of 40, she went back to school and earned a BA in sculpture and an MFA in fibre arts. But it didn’t stop there. After talking with many beginning quilters, she learned that all of the beginner patterns were basic and boring. Sam then found her niche by designing patterns that looked complicated but weren’t that difficult for a beginner to emulate. In her first three years, she sold 15,000 patterns and hasn’t looked back. In addition to her success as an artist, Sam also created We Are $ew Worth It, a worldwide movement and philosophy for quilters and artists. The mission of WASWI is to champion claiming our worth as makers and to educate our customers about the value of what we create. There’s a lot of gems in this episode. You can find more about Sam at www.huntersdesignstudio.com. In this episode, we talk about: How Sam got started as an artist, How she started her business and her first big win, Art and the “devaluation” of handcrafts and art in general, World Domination Summit and the important of finding your tribe, Her journey from the corporate world to entrepreneurship, Advice for those wanting to make a change in their lives, And MUCH more… Listen below or download from iTunes by clicking here. LL 018: Jennifer Underwood – Just Say Hello
In the 18th episode of the Live Limitless podcast I chat with Jennifer Underwood of www.justsayhellotour.com. I was introduced to Jennifer through the World Domination Summit. After quitting her stressful job as a social worker, Jennifer started a business on Amazon utilizing what’s referred to as retail arbitrage and calculated gambling. In other words, she buys things and sells them through Amazon. However, most of our talk revolved around her latest project: the Just Say Hello Tour. Jennifer sold everything she owned and hit the road in a camper van with her 8-year old daughter to break down the stigma associated with homelessness. The Just Say Hello Tour is an advocacy project created to record and share the stories of those who are homeless in hopes of inspiring people to challenge their misconceptions and judgments of homelessness and to “Just Say Hello” to those on the streets of their communities. It’s an incredibly inspiring project to display a side of humanity too many often ignore. You can learn more by visiting www.justsayhellotour.com. LL 016: Steven Li – From Engineer to Photographer
In the 16th episode of the Live Limitless podcast I chat with Steven Li of www.stevenliphotography.com and FreeLifeExperiment.com. Steven is a friend of mine from Edmonton, Canada. I wanted to interview Steven because he ditched his engineering career to become a professional photographer. Ditching a career in engineering to take the path of an entrepreneur/freelancer is no easy task. He didn’t go back to school to study photography. He didn’t go to business school. He simply started practicing photography on his own time, found a welcoming group of inspiring people to be around, and slowly got his first few wins. This is also a very special episode for the Live Limitless podcast because it’s the 1st episode after a long two-year hiatus. While I travelled the world with my wife, I decided to put a pause on the podcast as I was not yet prepared to operate from a backpack. Now I am back and re-launching the podcast in a much bigger way! We have some incredible guests lined up and there will be a new episode every Monday! In addition, I’ll be hosting workshop episodes as well where we do a live “case study”. For example, in episode 19, I’ll be going over a book marketing plan and launch strategy with Tom Morkes. Please note: This was my first interview after two years so when I listen to it, I can tell I’m a little “shaky”. There’s still some gold in there though so I wanted to publish anyways. Can’t always be perfect! In this episode, we talk about: How Steven made the leap from engineer to photographer, His first big win, Why you should start on the side and surround yourself with good people, His first steps towards becoming a photographer, His daily/morning habits, His advice for anyone wanting to get into photography, and much, much more… I really hope you enjoy this episode. Please leave any comments for Steven or myself below and leave a review in iTunes. Please, Please, Please! If you like the show, leave a quick review. It would mean a lot to me! You can also find the podcast by clicking here. If you’re running short on time; (01:20): What Steven is up to right now with photography, (02:40): What Steven was doing before he got into photography, (03:50): Why he continued down the path of photography and not mechanical engineering, (07:30): His first win, (08:06): His first steps towards becoming a photographer, (09:30): How he promotion his photography , (10:30): Whether Steven ever had moments of doubt, (13:23): His daily / morning rituals, (18:25): His mentors/idols, (26:00): His favourite books / podcasts / movies, (29:07): Advice for others looking to make a big change in their life or to follow a dream (33:45): Advice for getting into photography.
