    Through Saul's obedience to his own flesh, his own power and his own desires in sparing King Agag, we take a personal look into our own flesh and the things we reject God for.

    As Jonathan comes into his own as a warrior and a man obedient to God, so his father proves to be the king Samuel warned them about.

    1 Samuel Chapter 12-13:14

    Samuel gives his final public address, legitimizing Saul as the king and leader of Israel. He establishes the fact he was faithful to the people of Israel as well as to God and could be held blameless, yet he issues one final warning to turn their hearts to Yahweh. He thus steps away from serving as judge while continuing to serve as priest. Saul gathers in personal troops for himself and his son Jonathan. Still subjected to the authority of the Philistines, Jonathan sets off a chain of events reigniting war with them, as Saul assumes priestly authority that is not his.

    1 Samuel Chapters 10-11

    As Saul encounters Samuel for the first time, Yahweh gives him three signs. This confirms his appointment as King of Israel. In order to win the hearts and minds of his people, Saul launches a cunning military plan to route an enemy attack. With his leadership skill established, Saul steps into his place on the throne.

    1 Samuel Chapters 7 thru 9

    Samuel now serves the nation as defacto leader as well as prophet and priest. He appoints his sons as judges over Israel, though they rule over the people with bribes, oppression, and disobedience to Yahweh. The people come to Samuel and demand he appoint a king, just like the nations around them. Though it is not God's plan, he directs Samuel to give the people what they wish for, and appoints Saul, the first King of Israel.

    1 Samuel Chapters 5, 6 thru 7:13

    What's an emmrod? You'll find out, and learn they are something you never want have. The Philistines suffer the consequences of stealing the Ark of the Covenant, and endeavor to send it back to Israel. Once back, the Israelites choose to handle it in a way not spelled out in the Levitical law and suffer consequences of their own. Samuel, now a man and leading Israel as prophet and priest, calls for a national repentence.

    The young Samuel continues to grow in the Lord as he serves at the Tabernacle. He audibly hears Yahweh for the first time, and delivers his first prophesy to Eli.Meanwhile, Hophni, Phineas and the Israeli army desecrate the Ark of the Covenant as they carry it into battle with the Philistines,

    The child Samuel begins his service to the Tabernacle, even as Eli's sons, Hophni and Phinneas, make a mockery of Yahweh and the sacrifices to Him.

    We begin our study through the books of Samuel. This week we learn about Samuel's mother, Hannah and her desire to have a child. In her faithfulness she commits her son to the service of the temple, establishing him as Israels last Judge, and one of the early prophets.

    In this episode we wrap up our study through the book of Judges. It's a very heavy and sobering account of sexual abuse, perversion, revenge and extreme violence.
