    David | Prayer Series

In this episode of Living Uncompromised, Rebecca and Jennifer explore King David’s journey of sin with Bathsheba, and the death of her husband, Uriah. They also discuss the impact of David’s sin and its consequences. They highlight the heart of brokenness in David that led him to a prayer of repentance before God in Psalm 51. 2 Samuel 11 records David’s actions and the LORD’s rebuke through the prophet Nathan is recorded in 2 Samuel 12. David compounded one bad choice with another and another resulting in a child with Uriah’s wife and eventually Uriah’s death. David burns with anger as Nathan tells him about a rich man with many sheep and cattle who took the one lamb of a poor man. He does not realize he is that rich man and Bathsheba the one he had taken from Uriah. At this realization, he says, “ ‘I have sinned against the LORD’” (2 Samuel 12:13).David’s deep regret for sinning against the LORD is recorded in Psalm 51. David begins with God’s goodness and mercy. He then confesses his sin, noting “Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight...” (Psalm 51:4). David’s relationship with the LORD is evident by his brokenness over sinning against the LORD. He asks the LORD to cleanse him and “blot out all [his] iniquity” (Psalm 51:9). David does not simply seek to make a sacrifice to God to cover his sin, he understands and proclaims God’s desire for a repentant, sorrowful, remorseful heart. David seeks restoration and desires to teach transgressors God’s ways, and he says, “Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise” (Psalm 51:14-15).Takeaways:David’s sin with Bathsheba resulted in the intentional death of Uriah at the king’s command.Nathan was sent by the LORD to confront David over his sin. Psalm 51 is David’s prayer of repentance before the LORDDavid’s relationship with the LORD is evident by his brokenness over sinning against the LORD.David does not simply seek to make a sacrifice to God to cover his sin, he understands and proclaims God’s desire for a repentant, sorrowful, remorseful heart. David declares God’s mercy, unfailing love, and great compassion. There are consequences for David’s sin, but David repents before the LORD and asks the LORD to cleanse him. So the people of Israel obeyed him and did as the LORD had commanded Moses” (Deuteronomy 34:9).SummaryIn this episode, Rebecca and Jennifer explore the story of Joshua, as he became the leader of God’s people after Moses died. Joshua’s obedience to God’s commands is an important piece of his story. His faith and courage were pivotal in leading the Israelites into the Promised Land. The Israelites followed Joshua, as God had been preparing him to lead the people. God appeared to Joshua as the commander of the Lord’s army. He would go before His people in battle. Joshua fell down before God. Israel’s obedience to God by listening to Joshua’s instruction is the key to their success at Jericho. The miraculous fall of Jericho was God doing the extraordinary in response to Israel’s obedience to His commands.Takeaways:Joshua became the leader of God’s people after Moses died. Moses | When God calls - Lessons In Obedience

In this episode, Rebecca and Jennifer discuss parts of Moses’ life, including the moment he was set apart as “a fine child” (Genesis 2:2), his early life as Egyptian royalty, and the conversation between he and God that resulted in his return to Egypt. The moment God called Moses and instructed him from the burning bush is discussed as well as his moments of hesitation before the LORD. Five times Moses hesitates, questioning the LORD’s plan to use him, asking “what if” questions, and eventually asking the LORD to send someone else. Moses’ willingness to be obedient in light of his fear and concerns is a major topic in this discussion, as well as the LORD’s kindness and provision, even in HIs anger, toward Moses in sending his brother, Aaron, to him. The LORD’s power and provision is evident as He equips Moses to do the supernatural (with the staff in his hand) and gives him the details of Pharaoh’s response and even the final outcome of this assignment. Despite his royal upbringing, Moses desires to be identified with God’s people (Hebrews 11:24-26). Takeaways:Moses had a unique calling from the beginning. (Exodus 2:2)Moses and Aaron are Levites.God’s plan for Moses involved saving him through Pharaoh’s household.Moses’ initial response to God’s call was one of fear and hesitation. The burning bush encounter marked a pivotal moment in Moses’ life.God’s assurance to Moses was that He would be with him. God’s confirmation to Moses that it was He who sent him to Egypt, would be seen when Moses returned to the very mountain where God first met him, and he and the people of God worshiped there. Often confirmation comes after obedience. Moses questioned God’s plan multiple times, questioning his own capabilities. God sent Aaron to meet Moses and speak for him. “Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet’” (Genesis 7:1).The importance of obedience to God’s covenant is highlighted.Moses’ legacy is one of faithfulness and obedience to God’s calling. Psalm 9:10 says, "Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you."  To study the names of the Lord is to know Him better, and the more we learn about the Lord, the more we will understand that He is worthy of all of our praise and trustworthy to meet all of our needs. Two names discussed today: El Shaddai means God Almighty.Genesis 17:1-2, "When Abram was ninety-nine years old the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, 'I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless, that I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you greatly.'" "Shaddai is translated as “Almighty” forty-eight times in the Old Testament. In the New Testament, the Greek equivalent is used in 2 Corinthians 6:18 and Revelation 1:8; 4:8; 11:17; 15:3; 16:7 and 14; 19:6 and 15; and 21:22. It is translated “Almighty” except in Revelation 19:6 (“omnipotent”)"(God Almighty (17:1-2) - Warren Wiersbe BE Bible Study Series - Bible Gateway).El Olam - God of EternityIsaiah 40:28, "Have you not known? Have you not heard?  The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable."Takeaways:We study the names of the Lord to know Him better. The names of the Lord teach us who He is and about His character. The more we know about him, the more we will trust him. Samson's Final Battle | Samson Series Ep. 9

In this conversation, Rebecca and Jennifer discuss Delilah's nagging that eventually draws Samson's secret from him. When he tells her the secret to his strength, he does not realize that when she took his hair, the LORD left him. When Samson gave away the secret to his God-given strength, his over confidence in his ability to escape again, created a situation where he was vulnerable and unable to save himself. He did not realize the LORD had left him because he had surrendered everything to his enemy. As a result, he ends up a prisoner of the Philistines. It is the LORD who restores him after he prays and asks the LORD to remember him and strengthen him one more time. The LORD empowered him for one final blow against the Philistines. Takeaways:Surrendering to the schemes of the enemy results in consequences, sometimes heavy ones. The LORD never leaves us nor forsakes us (Deuteronomy 31:8), but we must come to Him in repentance.  If we call on Him in repentance, He will restore us.He is always our help and strength. Compromising Choices Opens the Door to the Enemy | Samson Ep. 8

Rebecca and Jennifer discuss Samson's character based on his actions. Two events take place in this week's reading and the discussion addresses them both. Samson continues to place himself in situations, due to his own desires, that allow his enemy, the Philistines, to seek to capture him. Samson's God-given strength helps him even when he uses it for his own gains, and he continues to put himself in situations where he can be tempted by the enemy and where he is accessible to them. Delilah continually seeks to find out the secret of his great strength for her own gain. How far will he go before Delilah's push for the truth trips him up and causes his downfall? Takeaways:Sometimes the enemy will openly reveal the truth. Delilah asks Samson how he can be tied up and subdued.Samson continually put himself in compromising situations that allowed the enemy access to him. Although Delilah reveals she cannot be trusted, Samson continues to go along with her deception.  This is a public episode. Whether Big or Small, He is Lord of All | Samson Ep. 7

The conversation explores the theme of faith and God's power that is not limited by our expectations and our own limitations. The conversation emphasizes that circumstances do not define what is possible with God. Handed over to the Philistines by his own people, Samson becomes a one man army, equipped with power when the Spirit of the LORD comes upon him, and he slays 1.000 men. His victory is met with an incredible need, and God meets him there. This shows a different side of Samson as he calls on the LORD after the battle when he is very thirsty.  We see God strengthen and provide for him in battle and right after, revive his depleted strength. Takeaways:Our circumstances do not box in the LORD. His power is not limited by our circumstances. The LORD is our protection and our help.Faith allows us to see beyond our current situation. God meets all of our needs.   This is a public episode. A Private Moment Allowed God To Reveal His Power | Samson Ep. 4

In this episode, Rebecca and Jennifer explore Judges 14:1-14. In these verses the focus is Samson's attraction to the young Philistine woman and the desire given to him by the LORD to marry her. Two important things are happening in this section of Scripture. We see the beginning of God's calling on Samson's life to "begin the deliverance of Israel from the hands of the Philistines" (Judges 13:5), as he goes to Timnah to marry a Philistine woman. On this journey, God reveals to Samson the power he has through the Spirit of the LORD as he is able to kill a young lion that comes roaring toward him. There is discussion of this event and then the honey found in the carcass of the lion when Samson passed that way again. Samson's marriage feast takes place in these verses, and here he shares a riddle with his Philistine companions. He provides terms for the deal, and then shares the very personal riddle that would certainly stump his companions.  Takeaways:Samson's attraction to the Philistine woman is given to him by the LORD.The encounter with the lion demonstrates the power of the Lord in Samson's life. The importance of personal moments with God for individual revelation. The honey from the lion's carcass symbolizes strength for the battle.Samson's riddle reflects his personal experiences and challenges his companions.
