The Orlando Magic face several pivotal decisions this offseason with their roster as they try to recover from their disappointing 2026 season. The biggest decision centers on Jalen Suggs. Suggs has been the heart and soul of this team and a key player defensively. The Magic are almost certainly better with him on the floor. The Orlando Magic are moving on from Jamahl Mosley. But the team will be building on the foundation he set as they seek a new coach. The new coach must continue with the defensive structures the team had under Mosley while forging a new path and expanding and growing what this team can do. Orlando is not starting from scratch. With two, maybe three, potential All-Star-level players, the Magic have a lot to attract a new coach and build upon. The Orlando Magic's playoff dreams hinge on a healthy Franz Wagner. He showed that throughout the season with how the team struggled in his absence and how good the team looked when he was in the lineup. Much of their season was defined by his absence. The Orlando Magic were undoubtedly happy with the season Desmond Bane had for them as their all-in move worked on that front. But questions still remain as the Magic remain stuck in first-round purgatory. The Magic did not get everything they wanted out of the trade despite Bane's stellar season. The Orlando Magic are at a crossroads after a third straight first-round Playoff loss. The dust is still settling on the Orlando Magic's playoff loss and the lessons the team can learn. Once again, it ended with Paolo Banchero seemingly doing it all alone trying to create. The Orlando Magic's latest playoff exit sparks big questions for the team this offseason. The Magic were clearly a much better team when they were healthy. The Orlando Magic missed their chance to close the series against the Detroit Pistons, fumbling the game away on missed free throws and missed opportunities on the margins. The Orlando Magic let a chance to take a 2-0 series lead slip through their fingers as the Detroit Pistons responded with a 28-3 run in the third quarter to seize control over the game and even the season. The Magic's poor offensive execution affected their defense in the quarter as things snowballed uncontrollably into the defeat. The Orlando Magic's playoff hopes wobbled in a costly loss to the shorthanded Boston Celtics, sending the team to the 8-seed and a road Play-In game against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Magic lacked urgency from the beginning despite holding the lead through the first half when the Celtics overwhelmed them with three-point shooting in the third quarter. All eyes have been on Paolo Banchero the entire season. He has been the center of criticism and frustration throughout the season. Banchero has still had a season that is statistically similar to his 2024 All-Star season. Some of the criticism is warranted as the young player continues to grow. The Orlando Magic have climbed back into the postseason chase to escape the Play-In. With three games remaining, they control their own destiny for the 8-seed and a guarantee for a home postseason game. They also still have an outside shot at escaping the Play-In entirely. The margin for error is small to achieve those goals. But doing so would be a small measure of redemption from a disappointing season. The Magic must make the most of these opportunities to gain some form of redemption. The good news in that is that Orlando will finally be healthy. The Orlando Magic scored a critical victory over the Detroit Pistons, securing their third straight win and their fifth in the last seven. The Orlando Magic needed to rally from a 15-point deficit to edge the New Orleans Pelicans. It was a gutsy performance where the Magic found their energy in a dominant defensive fourth quarter. And every win counts at this point of the season. But the seeming lack of energy has defined the season. While energy has long been the defining trait for this Magic team, it has been sorely lacking this season. Or at least inconsistent. The Orlando Magic crushed the Dallas Mavericks behind an energetic effort throughout the roster. It was a clear response to their coach challenging them after a frustrating defeat on Wednesday against the Atlanta Hawks. Several key players who are central to the team's energy stepped up, including Wendell Carter. Carter is not won to be loud with his play. But he scored a season-high 28 points to lead the Magic to a runaway victory, building as much as a 30-point lead. Despite the step in the right direction, the Magic still have a lot to clean up defensively and straighten out as they try to play their best basketball ahead of the Playoffs. The Orlando Magic brought Franz Wagner back from injury, even with just seven games remaining. It is a big risk considering his false starts coming back from the high ankle sprain that has cost him most of his season. Wagner is not one to quit on the season with time remaining. The Orlando Magic let their defense lead the way as they scored a huge win over the Phoenix Suns, 115-111. The Magic held the Suns to one field goal in the final 5.5 minutes to give their offense the time to pull away and get the shots they needed to win the game. The Orlando Magic are at a crossroads as they approach the end of their season. They are clearly moving on from their coach. But it will take more than a coaching change to right the ship and get the Magic back on track. The pressure this summer is on Jeff Weltman to reshape the roster and be aggressive to improve the team. It is on him to turn this team from one that has focused mostly on rebuilding and focus more on players who can help the Magic win in the short term. The Orlando Magic suffered their worst loss in franchise history, falling 139-87 to the Toronto Raptors. The Orlando Magic snapped their six-game losing streak thanks to some timely shots and a big fourth-quarter run that finally gave them breathing room and some much-needed relief. The Orlando Magic seem destined for a trip to the Play-In for a second straight season. The Orlando Magic's Playoff hopes hang by a thread after a sixth straight loss. Paolo Banchero looked like a superstar again, carrying the Magic into the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers with another 36 points. But his team struggled to step up and support him and the defense never stiffened, allowing Donovan Mitchell and James Harden to outshine him. It is clear -- and has been clear -- that there are major roster deficiencies. Already there are big questions that the Magic need to ask: How much have this season's shortcomings been credited to injuries and how much is a deep flaw to the roster? Injuries have been a constant story for this team since November. They have rarely seen their projected opening night lineup together. But while that has certainly knocked the team back into the Play-In race, it is not the only reason the team has struggled. Orlando's front office invested too much in defenders who did not have the offensive skills to keep up in the new NBA. The team's depth has been stretched too thin and the Magic cannot field a roster with enough Playoff-ready players for this time of year. The Orlando Magic unraveled in a crushing 128-126 loss to one of the league's worst teams in the Indiana Pacers. The team found itself down early, outworked and out physicaled, giving the Pacers confidence to close the game and end a 16-game losing streak. The Orlando Magic's playoff hopes truly teeter on the edge after their crushing loss to the Los Angeles on Saturday. The team is still in the race just a game behind the Toronto Raptors for fifth, but they are warding off teams around them and below them in a tightening race. The final 12 games will be a challenge for the Magic. But they still have several advantages. They play fewer games against teams at the top of the conference than their opponents and still have five games against teams at the bottom of the standings. The Magic must win all of those games to reach the Playoffs. That will not solve all of the Magic's problems, though. They remain a below-average half-court offensive team. And that is what is the best determinant of Playoff success. The Magic keep running into the ceiling of their offense, which might make many of their offseason choices clearer. The Orlando Magic let a sure victory slip away against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Orlando Magic's momentum has stalled as their once-unbreakable connection is faltering in another blowout loss to the Charlotte Hornets. Jamahl Mosley tried to spur his team into some momentum by getting ejected, but the team continued to look a bit lost on both ends and could not keep up with a Hornets team that took advantage of every mistake and buried them with 3-pointers. Orlando simply did not have the shooting or confidence to keep up with a stellar effort from the Hornets. And the team fell further behind as they got more disconnected. The clock is ticking for the Orlando Magic as the season winds down and the Eastern Conference playoff race tightens in the final weeks of the season. The Magic are still waiting to be whole again as Franz Wagner continues to work his way back from a high left ankle sprain. But time is running out with just four weeks and 14 games remaining. Wagner is not yet playing live. These games will go quickly. The Magic need Wagner to return to make their Playoff push and have a chance to get out of the first round. The Orlando Magic got a taste of the Playoffs as the Oklahoma City Thunder out-executed down the stretch to beat them despite the Magic's energetic effort. The Thunder made the little plays down the stretch to pull ahead and tip a close game in their favor. That will be the difference for the Magic when they get to the playoffs. Despite a stellar showing from Paolo Banchero, there were a lot of issues for the Magic. None may be bigger than the team's struggling bench. There are a lot of rotation decisions to sort out as the Playoffs draw closer and the Magic try to get the most out of their lineups. In the end, a loss to the Thunder is not a reason for panic. The Orlando Magic's seven-game win streak ended with a disappointing 124-112 loss to the streaking Atlanta Hawks.
