The Lies I Believed Part 2
In today’s episode, we’re talking about fortune telling lies—the kind of lies people tell us about how they think our future will unfold. These often sound like:“Because you are ____, you’ll never be able to ____.”Sometimes they come from a place of care, but most often they are projections of someone else’s fear, doubt, or insecurity. And when we internalize them, they can plant seeds of fear that shape the way we move through life—even if those predictions never actually come true.I’ll share a very personal story about how I was told I would one day lose my love for people if I pursued social work—a fortune telling lie that never came true. Instead, 20 years into the field, my love and respect for people has only grown deeper. But the fear that took root from believing that lie? That did affect me, in ways I only see clearly now. What You’ll Learn in This Episode: • The two types of lies we’re often told: lies about identity and lies about the future. • How “fortune telling lies” can quietly shape your mindset and decisions. • Why these lies usually say more about the person speaking them than about you. • A story from my career in social work that shows how fear from a lie can take root—even when the prediction never comes true. • A reframing practice you can use when someone speaks fear over your future. Why This Matters:When we absorb fortune telling lies, we often let fear steer our paths—sometimes in subtle but powerful ways. But when we learn to recognize these lies for what they are, we can release them, reclaim our energy, and move forward in alignment with our truth. If you missed last week’s episode (Part 1 of the series), I encourage you to go back and listen. I shared how lies about identity—being told I was “too muscular” to be a ballerina or “too sensitive” for certain careers—shaped the course of my life. This week builds on that conversation and invites you to look at the lies spoken over your own future.

Unhinged Hacks for Cognitive Distortions That Will Likely Never Come Up In Your Therapist’s Office
In this episode, I take a walk through the slightly warped funhouse of our own brains — and invite you along for the ride. By referencing my future self, I shine a light on the sneaky cognitive distortions that keep me stuck. But instead of waging war on these patterns, I’ve found a few… let’s say unorthodox ways to hack them so they start working for me instead of against me.Everything from turning catastrophizing into comedy and when its helpful to imagine someone having gastrointestinal distress. It’s silly and a little unhinged, but it works and I hope it encourages you to take creative freedom with your own thoughts. The episode wraps with a gentle reminder: distorted thinking isn’t always the enemy. Sometimes it’s just the brain’s way of coping — and if we can tweak it to make our inner world a little kinder, then maybe that’s perfectly okay.In this episode: • How I use my future self to spot mental traps • The 3 unconventional “hacks” I use to flip cognitive distortions • Why not all distorted thinking needs to be fixed — just redirectedLet’s get curious (and maybe a little silly) about what’s really going on in that beautiful brain of yours.Follow on Instagram @theloveyourbrainpodcast

Your Brain's Algorithm: Why Your Brain Works Like Social Media
In today’s episode, we’re diving deep into one of the internet’s most debated mysteries: the algorithm — but with a twist. Sure, we’ll touch on how social media platforms use algorithms to serve you content, but we’ll also explore how your brain functions in a strikingly similar way. We’ll talk about how neural pathways are built, how trauma can fast-track thought loops, and most importantly, how you can rewire those loops. Using personal stories, including a powerful wake-up call from a blunt but beloved friend, I share how I started to take back control of my own mental "algorithm."By the end of this episode, you’ll understand:What algorithms are and how they work (online and in your mind)Why your brain keeps serving you thoughts you don’t wantHow repetition and emotional impact build your thought patternsWhy choosing different thoughts can actually change how you feel✨ Plus, I introduce a potential upcoming course or workbook that might help you put these tools into action in your own life. Leaning Into Spring Energy: How to Change Your Brain From Hustle Mode to Ease

Sometimes, you have to sit still and let it come to you.🌼 In this episode, we’ll chat about:How Spring mirrors the energy of trust, stillness, and receivingWhy we believe doing = worth (and how to shift that belief)A surprisingly fun neural pathway hack using “that person” you’re kinda jealous ofGuided questions to help you explore what magic you might be chasing too hard to actually receiveSo if you’re feeling overwhelmed, overbooked, or just stuck in “fix-it” mode, this episode is your gentle nudge to pause, breathe, and remember: sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is be still.Follow on Instagram @theloveyourbrainpodcast

Why That One Person Drives You Nuts (and What It Says About You)
We all have those people in our lives that just get to us. The Hidden Risks of Inauthenticity: Why the World Needs the Real You
Last week, we embraced the weird and talked about the magic that happens when we show up as our true selves. This week, we’re digging even deeper—because while we all say authenticity is a good thing, we don’t always talk about why inauthenticity is actually dangerous. This episode is a real heart-to-heart about the often overlooked costs of not living in alignment with who we truly are. It’s not just about feeling “off” or a little disconnected. Inauthenticity comes with some serious ripple effects—on our mental health, relationships, opportunities, and even the needs we're meant to meet in the world. We’ll talk about:Why we tend to minimize choices that only make us feel better (and why that’s a problem). The true, often invisible cost of “faking it” to fit in.How inauthenticity creates misalignment in our relationships and life opportunities. The “shape sorter” analogy that brings authenticity to life in a powerful way.Why what you bring to the world can’t be replaced—and how pretending to be something you’re not might be robbing the world of something only you can offer. What to expect when you start showing up authentically (hint: things may fall away—but that’s not a bad thing).Whether you're trying to find your voice, make a big life pivot, or simply show up more fully in the everyday moments, this episode is here to remind you that the real you is not only enough—it's essential.🔑 Key Takeaways:Authenticity isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. It directly affects your fulfillment, your connections, and your ability to make the impact you're here to make.Inauthenticity isn’t harmless. It leads to misaligned opportunities, missed connections, and sometimes even emotional harm—for both you and others. When you live authentically, magic happens. The right people, opportunities, and experiences begin to show up—because you’re finally letting yourself be seen.✨ Episode Challenge:Before your next big conversation, interaction, or decision—pause and ask: Am I showing up as who I really am right now? Or am I trying to be what I think is expected?Start choosing the real you—and watch what begins to align.Follow on Instagram @theloveyourbrainpodcast

Embracing the Weird: The Power of Showing Up Authentically As Yourself
In this episode, we dive deep into the beauty and magic of embracing what society often labels as "weird." With over 20 years in social work, I’ve encountered a wide variety of individuals who, by societal standards, might be considered outliers. But to me, they represent something truly special—people who live outside the box and experience the world in ways few can comprehend. From those living on the streets to individuals with unique cognitive abilities, my experiences have taught me that the “weird” aspects of humanity are what make us wonderfully diverse and irreplaceable.Growing up, I was always drawn to the people society might overlook, like the ones having intense conversations with thin air. And those magical conversations I had with them showed me something powerful: uniqueness is not a flaw—it’s something to be celebrated. In today’s episode, I’ll share how the concept of "weird" has shaped my life and how we can all embrace the colors that make us who we are. I’ll explain how each person is like a color—unique and irreplaceable. Just like a color palette, we each contribute something special to the world. From the vibrant, quirky hues to the more subdued tones, we all add to the beautiful spectrum of life. So, why try to hide your color? Your "weird" parts might just be the ones that inspire someone else.Through an analogy that compares us to different shades, I’ll explore why it's so important to lean into your true self, weirdness and all, and let the world experience the beauty of your full spectrum. After all, if we didn’t have unique colors like hot pink or juniper green, the world would miss out on the richness of what it means to be human. If you’ve ever questioned whether you’re too much, too different, or too "weird," this episode is for you. It’s time to stop hiding and embrace the full, beautiful color of who you are. So come along for a journey as we explore why the world needs your weirdness—and why you should never apologize for being authentically you.Thank you for tuning in, and remember: the more we embrace our quirks, the more we inspire others to do the same. Let’s make the world a more beautiful place by being our unique, colorful selves.Join the conversation:How have you embraced your own weirdness? What are some of the "weird" qualities that make you unique?Share your thoughts and experiences with us on Instagram @TheLoveYourBrainPodcast or in the comments below!Stay weird, stay colorful, and let your true self shine. 💫

Part 4: Strengthening Your Intuition Muscle and Making Decisions You Can Feel Good About
In today’s episode, we dive deep into a topic that’s close to my heart—learning to make decisions from our intuition. It's one of those magical aspects of life that can guide us toward a path uniquely our own. Whether you think of intuition as spiritual guidance, an instinct, or simply a gut feeling, one thing is clear: we all have it, and it’s here to help us navigate life with clarity and peace.I’ll begin by breaking down what intuition really is and how it shows up in our lives. From subtle body sensations to those "gut feelings" that can’t quite be explained, your intuition is always there, whispering guidance. But how do you tap into it? How do you know if it’s your intuition or just fear or external pressures talking? We talk about the importance of slowing down, quieting the noise, and paying attention to how your body reacts when making decisions. You'll learn how to distinguish between trauma responses and your soul’s pull, and how asking yourself the right questions can help bring clarity. You'll also hear personal stories from my own life, including a decision I made to study abroad in Spain, despite the odds not aligning rationally. Trusting that gut feeling led me to experiences I never expected, and I'll share how intuition can keep you grounded, even when life throws you curveballs.By the end of this episode, you’ll have some practical tools to start strengthening your own intuition muscle—whether that’s through journaling, slowing down, or testing out small decisions and noticing how your body feels.Key Takeaways:Your intuition is a powerful tool that can help you make decisions aligned with your core values and calling. The peace you feel when following your intuition is a sign that you’re on the right path.Quiet the noise around you (whether from others or your own trauma) to hear your soul’s true guidance.Trusting your intuition can lead to fewer regrets and a stronger relationship with yourself. And if you’ve been wondering what to do when someone you care about is struggling with decision-making or life challenges, stay tuned for next week’s bonus episode where we explore how to support others during tough times.Don't forget to subscribe, leave a review, and share this episode with anyone who might need a little reminder to trust their gut!Follow on Instagram @theloveyourbrainpodcast
