95 – The Most Important Word in the Bible | Dr. Kendell Soulen
For centuries the church condensed the story of the Bible into one single narrative comprised of a simple, four-act structure. God created the world, humankind sinned causing the world to fall into disrepair, Jesus died for our sins and redeemed us, and in the future God will restore all of creation. But this narrative skips over everything that happens from Genesis 3 to Matthew 1. Dr. Kendall Soulen, renowned theologian and author, joins the podcast to share how Israel’s story is a key part of this larger biblical narrative and how losing that story makes our theology incomplete somehow. Listen in to discover how to reclaim the unity of the Bible by recognizing the same God at work in both the Old and the New Testaments. 👉 Key Discussion Points: ► Reframe the overall story-arc of the Bible. ► How supersessionism emerged and why it’s a persistent theological mistake. ► What is God’s personal name and what does it signify about His identity?► How Jesus exemplifies reverence for God's name and modeled a deep respect that Christians can emulate. ► Practical insights for pastors and believers on how awareness of God's name can transform your devotional life and church teaching. Whether you’re a student of theology, a church leader, or a curious believer, this conversation challenges assumptions and offers a fresh lens to interpret the Bible more faithfully. 📚 BOOKS The God of Israel and Christian Theology Irrevocable: The Name of God and the Unity of the Christian Bible Israel Matters 📃 ARTICLESIsrael ForgetfulnessA Blow to Replacement TheologyDismantling Replacement TheologyThe Biblical Blueprint of PeoplehoodIs the Church IsraelTo Proclaim My NameHallowed Be Your NameWhat's His Name🎙️ PODCASTSIs 1 Peter for Jews or Gentiles? | Dr. Kelly Liebengood A New History of Redemption | Dr. Gerald R. 94 – Messianic Jewish History Unveiled | Dr. Gershon Nerel
The roots of modern Messianic Judaism extend farther back into history than the cultural expression that emerged out of the 1960s. It’s a story of pioneering faith, a few missed opportunities, along with overcoming fierce challenges. Dr. Gershon Nerel is a Jewish believer in Yeshua and a historian who joins Messiah Podcast from the messianic archive center on the outskirts of Jerusalem in Israel. He has spent decades studying the history of Jewish believers in Jesus. His research informs us regarding both the past and the future. Dr. Nerel’s insights challenge us to reconsider how history, identity, and faith intertwine for Jewish believers in Yeshua living in Israel today. 👉 Key Discussion Points:► The artifacts, archives, and personal stories that reveal the complex journey of Jewish believers in Yeshua. ► The rise and fall of key figures like Abram Poljak and the importance of stability and independence in movement growth.► The impact of political upheavals, such as Operation Mercy, on the survival of Hebrew Christians and Jewish believers in Israel.► "Messianic Judaism" vs. "Yeshua Judaism" and why the terminology matters.► The ongoing struggle to reconnect with biblical, independent expression of faith beyond church doctrines and denominational control.Gershon Nerel is a trailblazing historian with decades of research into Messianic Jewish roots in Israel whose work uncovers the overlooked and often suppressed stories of faith, exile, and revival. 93 – Counting the Omer for Personal Spiritual Growth | Damian Eisner
Most disciples overlook one of the most profound spiritual opportunities of the year: the Counting of the Omer. Damian Eisner unpacks how this simple, ancient practice transcends tradition and reveals a pathway to inner growth, humility, and divine empowerment. If you’ve ever wondered how biblical festivals like Passover and Shavu’ot connect to your daily walk with God, this episode will reshape that understanding. The calendar provides both reflections of history and strategic moments for transformation.👉 Key Discussion Points: ► Come learn the core purpose of counting the Omer. It’s not just counting days but elevating your soul from bondage to sin toward a new level of spiritual maturity. ► Damian shares insights on how to use this period for self-examination, gratitude, and character refinement. Remember, the process is about you changing (not your neighbor), not checking off a ritual box. ► Damian offers practical exercises for using this time to intentionally cultivate your character with patience and humility. 91 – Is Sabbath Just for Jews? | Aaron & Rachel Eby
The Sabbath: Is it observed on Sunday or Saturday? Is it a day of rest, worship, or both? Who is it truly for—Jews, Christians, or everyone? Are the ancient Sabbath laws still relevant today? What insights does the Bible provide? If profound questions like these cross your mind, then join Aaron and Rachel Eby as they delve into these topics, sharing their experiences as a Jewish family observing the traditional Jewish Sabbath every Saturday. Aaron, a senior educator at First Fruits of Zion, and Rachel, a prolific writer for Messiah Online and Messiah Magazine, offer a unique perspective as Jewish followers of Jesus. Together, they guide us through understanding the Sabbath from a Messianic Jewish viewpoint. 👉 Key Discussion Points:► In this episode you’ll discover why the Sabbath was sanctified at creation long before the Jewish people existed, and what it truly means for a day to be “holy.” ► Traditional Jewish Sabbath observance goes beyond just refraining from work and includes the thirty-nine categories of prohibited creative acts. The Ebys explain the purpose behind these detailed boundaries and how this meticulous structure is designed not to be a burden but to deepen your awareness of God's holiness, transforming how you experience time and life itself. ► The Sabbath serves as a rehearsal for the World to Come, a time to step back from our relentless pursuit of achievement and reconnect with God's eternal promises. Aaron and Rachel share personal insights into how Shabbat fosters community, nurtures family bonds, and cultivates a sense of delight. They discuss suggestions for engaging children and incorporating joy, even amid a busy, screen-saturated culture. They offer encouragement for non-Jews: even small steps like lighting candles or setting aside moments of reflection can infuse life with spiritual meaning and cultural richness. This episode isn’t just about understanding a religious practice; it’s about rediscovering a rhythm of life that can profoundly shape your faith, your family, and your worldview. Whether you’re Jewish, exploring the faith, or simply curious about a tradition rooted in divine wisdom, these insights open a path toward sacred time and a deeper connection with the Creator. 90 – The Quickening: Stephanie Quick and The Emmaus Table
As tensions continue to ferment in the Middle East, God has called some from among his flock to bring the gospel of the kingdom to the Muslim world. Our guest today, Stephanie Quick of the Emmaus Table, is a writer, teacher, songwriter, recording artist, cinematographer, filmmaker, and fierce advocate of Israel with rare and unusual political equilibrium, and a true and loyal friend to dogs everywhere. She's here to tell us about how the Emmaus Table is proclaiming the gospel in its original apocalyptic Jewish context to audiences in the Middle East and around the world.👉 Key Discussion Points:► The Gospel’s Jewish Context in the Muslim World: Stephanie emphasizes the importance of proclaiming the “gospel of the kingdom” within its original apocalyptic Jewish context, even to the Muslim world.► Founding of the Emmaus Table: After years with Frontier Alliance International (FAI), Stephanie helped transition their public-facing efforts into “The Emmaus Table.” The new collaborative “dinner table” model provides a free and growing resource library, including films, teaching, and music.► The Covenant and Controversy Framework: A central theme of her work is navigating the “controversy of Zion.” She posits that God’s faithfulness to his everlasting covenant with Israel is the foundation for a Christian’s personal security; if God were to renege on his promises to the Jewish people, believers would have no basis to trust his promises to them.🔖 Chapters00:00 Living through Conflicts with Iran05:52 Journey to the Middle East: A Personal Calling11:10 Missions and Filmmaking in the Muslim World22:16 The Emmaus Table: A Collaborative Initiative29:29 Understanding the Gospel of the Kingdom37:10 The Incomplete Gospel and Its Implications42:44 The Wire: Geopolitics through a Maranatha Lens45:16 The Inkwell: A Devotional and Teaching Platform48:26 The Global Bible Study: Weekly Teachings and Insights49:48 Death + Kingdom: A Musical Exploration of Resurrection👉 Resources:► Emmaus Table► Covenant and controversy: The Great ReignFFOZ at the Emmaus Tablehttps://ffoz.org/messiah/articles/ffoz-at-the-emmaus-tablehttps://ffoz.org/messiah/articles/drawn-from-flame-and-waterhttps://ffoz.org/messiah/articles/sojourners-and-exilesSOCIAL MEDIA INFORMATIONhttps://www.facebook.com/theemmaustable.worldX and IG at: @quicklikesandMusic Albums to explore on your favorite streaming service► The Death of Death: Death + Kingdom Vol. I► Ballads of Song of Solomon– Who is Messiah Podcast? –Messiah Podcast is a production of First Fruits of Zion (FFOZ), a Messianic Jewish education organization dedicated to reconciling disciples of Yeshua with God's prophetic promises to Israel. 89 – Is 1 Peter for Jews or Gentiles? | Dr. Kelly Liebengood
For those of us who read the Bible from a Messianic Jewish perspective, 1 Peter presents a problem. On the surface, Peter seems to be telling an audience of Gentiles that they, and not Israel, are now the chosen people. Dr. Kelly Liebengood has recently released a manuscript called Reading 1 Peter after Supersessionism, in which he shares his research on Peter’s inclusive language. Gentile followers of Jesus have always faced a challenge when forming a new identity, but the nature of this new identity does not preclude the continuing status of Israel as the people of God. Join us as we wrestle through post-supersessionist scholarship to find the message of Peter that applies even today. 👉 Key Discussion Points: ► The Concept of “Gentile Israelhood” is a concept Dr. Liebengood uses to express that Gentile believers are invited into a shared identity where they belong to the God of Israel. Dr. Liebengood argues they are “grafted-in” to Israel’s story without erasing their own Gentile identity or stealing the unique status of the Jewish people. ► The Challenge of Audience Identification in 1 Peter is a scholarly tug-of-war. A Jewish audience fits the letter’s “national” language but contradicts descriptions of the readers’ former pagan ignorance; conversely, a Gentile audience risks supporting “replacement theology” unless read through a post-supersessionist lens. How can this tension be resolved? ► A post-supersessionist reading of 1 Peter underscores the trustworthiness of God. The debate over 1 Peter is ultimately about the character of God. If God were to abandon his specific promises to Israel to start over with a new group, he would be fundamentally untrustworthy. A post-supersessionist reading ensures that God is seen as a faithful promise-keeper to all. 🔖 Chapters 00:00 Kelly's Journey to Post-Supersessionism 13:22 1 Peter and the Significance of Audience 07:56 Understanding Suffering in 1 Peter 19:03 Theological Implications of Audience Interpretation 26:29 Understanding “Israelhood” 31:42 Challenges of Gentile Identity Formation 34:21 Viewing Peter's Audience as Converts 39:48 Dating 1 Peter 44:32 Suffering in 1 Peter 48:10 Ecclesiology and Gentile Identity 51:24 Future Directions in Scholarship 1:00:20 Theological Implications for Gentile Followers 1:05:10 Re-narrating the Bible’s Bigger Picture 1:07:57 The Need for Dialogue in Scholarship 👉 Resources: ► Reading 1 Peter after Supersessionism, Dr. Kelly Liebengood ► Dismantling Replacement Theology► Biblical Blueprint of Peoplehood► Israel – Forgetfulness– Who is Messiah Podcast? –Messiah Podcast is a production of First Fruits of Zion (FFOZ), a Messianic Jewish education organization dedicated to reconciling disciples of Yeshua with God's prophetic promises to Israel. 88 – Hello, Mrs. Rachel: Breaking the Internet with Messianic Content
Can a stay-at-home mom with a gift of gab change the way the world views the Jewish Jesus? The viral @HelloMrsRachel, a third generation Messianic Jew joins Messiah podcast to reveal the David-and-Goliath reality of being a Messianic creator today. From dealing with heresy-hunting hate-watchers to answering deep theological DMs from curious Christians and searching Chasidic Jews, Rachel shares how she balances viral success with a heart-centered faith that refuses to get stuck in the "heady" world of theology.👉 Key Discussion Points:► The Struggle of the “In-Between": Messianic Jews often experience a unique form of double-rejection from both the Christian and Jewish communities. Rachel found that sharing this specific tension on social media resonated deeply with others who feel they don't fit into traditional boxes.► Jewish Identity as a Testimony of God's Faithfulness: Retaining Jewish identity and traditions after following Jesus is seen as a living testimony that God keeps his promises. Rachel argues that if God were to "break" his specific promises to the Jewish people, it would undermine the security of his promises to all believers.► The David and Goliath Mindset: Rachel views her platform as a way to confront demonic lies and misinformation about Messianic Jews and about Israel. 87 – Decoding Cody: Autism, Angels, and Telepathy on Trial | Pastor Joe Infranco
The Telepathy Tapes took the podcast world by storm in 2024. All of a sudden, we had falsifiable evidence that non-speaking autistic people could read minds. But this phenomenon was only the tip of a massive iceberg. What the Telepathy Tapes refused to publicize was the fact that these individuals relate messages from the God of Israel and from Jesus himself, expressions of unfathomable love, calls to repentance and reminders that Jesus is coming quickly. Our guest, Pastor Joe Infranco, exercised the intellectual rigor he learned in his first career as an attorney to get to the bottom of this phenomenon.👉 Key Discussion Points:► Biblical Gifts vs. "Telepathy": While some secular observers label the ability to know others' thoughts as "telepathy," Joe Infranco frames this phenomenon within the context of 1 Corinthians 12 spiritual gifts, such as "prophetic insight" or a "word of knowledge." He notes that many of these individuals are highly empathetic and "pick up thoughts" or see spiritual colors around people rather than experiencing literal, radio-like mind reading.► A Rigorous Testing of the Supernatural: As a former attorney, Infranco uses a "preponderance of the evidence" legal standard to validate supernatural claims. He argues that instead of demanding absolute certainty, believers should weigh evidence. Does the message provided line up biblically? Do the speakers have any motivation to lie? With objections and evidence on a scale which side is more persuasive?► God’s Use of "Overlooked Instruments": A central theme of the episode is that God may be choosing "heretofore overlooked instruments" to communicate ancient truths to the modern world. Infranco shares that many non-speaking individuals report seeing into the spiritual realm—including angels, demons, and Jesus—and feel a divine mandate to share messages of love and calls to repentance with a world that has often ignored them.🔖 Chapters00:00 From Attorney to Pastor: A Journey of Faith03:55 The Phenomenon of Telepathy and Spiritual Gifts08:28 Skepticism and Validation: The Journey of Belief14:13 Theological Concerns and Spiritual Discernment24:12 Providing Biblical Perspectives to Spiritual Experiences31:59 Beyond a Reasonable Doubt34:59 Messages from the Spiritual Realm38:35 Seeing the Future and Angels41:59 The Nature of Heaven and Relationship with God45:35 The Role of Autism in God's Plan49:19 Jewish Concepts Revealed through Autistic53:20 Signs of the Times: Prophetic Insights57:29 God's Unique Strategies in Reaching People01:00:34 Hope and the Future of Faith👉 Resources:Instagram: @pastorjoeinfrancoHidden Gifts MinistryDecoding Cody: Secrets of the Spectrum from People with Autism Who See, Hear, and Smell in the Unseen Realm The Telepathy Tapes– Who is Messiah Podcast? –Messiah Podcast is a production of First Fruits of Zion (FFOZ), a Messianic Jewish education organization dedicated to reconciling disciples of Yeshua with God's prophetic promises to Israel. 86 – My Son Sees Angels: Revelations from Non-Speaking Autism | Tahni Cullen
In 2024, the podcast about profoundly disabled, non-speaking autistic children who knew what their caretakers were thinking debuted and skyrocketed to the top of the charts. What the “Telepathy Tapes Podcast” didn’t discuss was that these individuals were also seeing angels, demons, and Jesus himself. They even reportedly received messages from God for the rest of us. Tahni Cullen joins Messiah Podcast to share her family’s remarkable journey raising a non-speaking autistic son, and how Scripture, prayer, and discernment shaped their response to mystical experiences that challenged a material worldview. This conversation focuses less on telepathy and more on theology, biblical guardrails, and the goodness of God. 👉 Key Discussion Points: ► The Gift of Prophecy: Jewish tradition says that when the Temple was destroyed the spirit of prophecy was given to the “simple.” This offers a framework for understanding why non-speaking autistic individuals like Josiah, who are marginalized by society due to their inability to speak, may be recipients of profound spiritual insights and prophetic revelations. The modern world may have "shut off" its ability to listen. But God’s desire to speak has not changed. ► Reframing Suffering: Tahni shares how the crisis of parenting a son with extreme autism challenged her to question the blessing of God. Where was the promise of blessing when walking in obedience? Her journey led her to learn the true nature of God during suffering. Josiah’s first independent sentence was: "God is a good gift giver." This realization became a foundational truth for their family to lean on in the midst of hardship. ► The Importance of Spiritual Discernment: While the broader "Telepathy Tapes" phenomenon is often framed through science or New Age spirituality, Tahni encourages Christians to "listen with discernment" rather than fear. The popular-level conversation often may "edit out Jesus" from these experiences; nevertheless, the phenomenon has actually led to spiritual awakenings, prompting seekers and even atheists to want to read the Bible and know God. 🔖 Chapters 00:00 Introduction to Tahni Cullen and her son Josiah 02:46 Intersection of Science and Faith via Non-Speaking Autism 12:29 Personal Journey to Find a Hope in Coping with Autism 21:23 Josiah's Breakthrough: “God Is a Good Gift-Giver” 24:06 Josiah's Prophetic Insights and Spiritual Messages 30:48 The Significance of Hebrew Letters and Jewish Holidays 36:21 Learning from a Heavenly Academy 37:30 The Priestly Breastplate and a Letter Board 43:17 Communicating with the Realm of the Dead 47:29 Discernment for Spiritual Gifts and Experiences 55:32 The Interconnection of Body, Soul, and Spirit 01:03:49 Pointing to Jesus 01:10:26 Empowering Non-Speaking Autistic Individuals 👉 Resources ► Josiah's Fire Facebook page► Book: “Josiah's Fire: Autism Stole His Words, God Gave Him a Voice” ► The Spellers– Who is Messiah Podcast? –Messiah Podcast is a production of First Fruits of Zion (FFOZ), a Messianic Jewish education organization dedicated to reconciling disciples of Yeshua with God's prophetic promises to Israel. 85 – Jordan Rubin on The Biblio Diet: God’s Plan for Health & Wellness
Join this conversation with Jewish follower of Jesus Jordan Rubin, for an exclusive glimpse into his faith journey and the story behind his newest NY Times best-selling book, The Biblio Diet. We delve into the ancient wisdom of the Bible that is confirmed by modern science, including food, fasting, and farming. We also explore where FFOZ’s Biblically Kosher intersects—and diverges—from The Biblio Diet. Transcending what we put on our plates, this episode delves into creation, covenant, and even the future God is preparing for us. 👉 Key Discussion Points:► The "Biblio Diet" Approach to Food Laws: Guest Jordan Rubin presents the idea of the "Biblio Diet" as a biblically based lifestyle that views the Bible's food passages as the key to health and longevity for everyone. The term Biblio Diet means to "eat by the book"—both the Bible and doing things as they were intended.► The Physiological Rationale for Clean Animals: The designation of clean animals (like ruminants that chew the cud and have split hooves) is based on their unique digestive systems, which efficiently process fibrous, undigestible materials into highly nutritious, healthy meat loaded with essential nutrients like protein, B12, iron, and good fats. Conversely, detestable animals, such as pigs and shellfish, were functionally created to be the earth's "garbage cans" or "toilet bowls," making them physiologically unfit for human consumption.► The Spiritual and Physical Benefits of Fasting: Fasting is a vital, biblically supported practice that offers both physical and spiritual benefits, leading to promises like "your healing will spring forth speedily" (Isaiah 58). Daily or intermittent fasting allows the body time to rest, repair, cleanse, and detoxify. By pushing back the first meal, even partial fasting can yield amazing results, and the feeling of hunger can become a great time to cling to God. 🔖 Chapters00:00 Introduction to the Podcast and Guests01:54 Jordan Rubin's Journey as a Messianic Jew04:28 Understanding the Biblio Diet11:56 The Importance of Clean and Unclean Animals17:13 Science & Spiritual Implications of Dietary Choices26:54 Covenantal Perspectives on Food20:57 The Role of Personal Conviction in Dietary Choices40:45 Exploring Fasting and Its Benefits50:18 Regenerative Farming for The Garden of Eden 2.056:20 Healing Leaves: Nature's Medicine 👉 Resources The Biblio Diet: https://www.jordanrubin.com/thebibliodiet Biblically Kosher: https://ffoz.store/products/biblically-kosher-book Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jordansrubin/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61578333310671X: https://x.com/realjordanrubinLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jordan-rubin/Website for the free Healing Leaves download: https://w– Who is Messiah Podcast? –Messiah Podcast is a production of First Fruits of Zion (FFOZ), a Messianic Jewish education organization dedicated to reconciling disciples of Yeshua with God's prophetic promises to Israel. 84 – A Former Muslim’s Analysis of Islam, Israel, and the West | Danny Burmawi
For hundreds of years, secular thinkers in the West have considered Christianity, Judaism, and Islam to have similar claims to the Jewish patriarchs. Our guest today, Danny Burmawi, has a different perspective. A convert from Islam to Christianity, he’s here to argue that Islam’s appropriation of Jewish history is fundamentally flawed, that Islam’s core values are incompatible with democracy, and that Islam’s theological claim to the land of Israel requires a new approach at the negotiating table between Israel and the Islamic world.👉 Key Takeaways:► The Quran as “Dictational Inspiration:” Christian and Jewish views of the divine inspiration of religious scriptures allow room for rationality, reasoning, and wrestling with the text. The Quran on the other hand explicitly commands Muslims “not to ask questions.”► The Political Fabrication of Jerusalem's Holy Status: Jerusalem's status as Islam’s "third holiest city" is a historical and theological fabrication driven by political motives. Muhammad initially prayed toward Jerusalem but changed the direction to Mecca after the Jewish community rejected him. Decades later, a caliph in Damascus politically asserted the Temple Mount was the site of the "Distant Mosque" (Al-Aqsa) during a rivalry with the caliph in Mecca.► How Islam plans to take over the West: Most Muslims in western countries are not plotting to overthrow their country of residence. Islam as a religious system, however, is a theologically motivated system, whose inherent goal is world domination. This theological mandate makes it an ideological and existential threat. 83 – Food, Faith & Freedom – Finally Finding Jesus in Messianic Judaism | Hope Egan
In the first century, Jewish believers in Jesus kept being Jewish. There was no conflict between their Jewish identity and their discipleship. Unfortunately, that changed, and for most of church history, Jewish followers of Jesus had to stop being Jewish. Today, many Jews are seeking God and are interested in Jesus, but they are not interested in giving up their Jewish identity. The solution is Messianic Judaism. Our guest today, First Fruits of Zion's Outreach Coordinator, and this very podcast's associate producer, Hope Egan, is here to share the story of how she found her spiritual home in Messianic Judaism, lost that home, and then found it again. We'll discuss ecclesiology, the food laws, and how to prevent an obsession with theology from derailing your personal walk with God. 👉 Key Discussion Points: ► Messianic Judaism Offers a Solution for Jewish Identity and Faith: Messianic Judaism beautifully shows that being Jewish and following Yeshua (Jesus) are not contradictory but deeply connected, just as they were in the first century. If you are a Jewish person seeking God, you can absolutely embrace Yeshua without giving up your rich heritage and identity. ► The Spiritual Journey: Finding Your Way Home: Hope Egan's story is an inspiring testament that your spiritual journey is rarely a straight line, and that's okay! Finding your spiritual "home" can sometimes involve a few detours, a period of feeling lost, and the courage to find it again. ► Theological Study: A Lifelong Adventure: Don't be discouraged if you feel like you never have all the answers. That's the best part! The exploration of profound truths is a continuous, exciting journey that offers endless opportunities for discovery. Embrace the questions you find with each study; they are the very things that invite you to keep learning. ► The Priority: A Personal Walk with God: While it's fascinating to dive deep into theological topics, remember the most essential relationship of all: your personal walk with God. Let your study and passion for theology enrich your relationship, but don’t let it become an obsession that distracts you from loving and walking with him. Keep your focus on your heart connection, and the rest will fall into place! 👉 Resources HaYesod: The Foundation Biblically Kosher Articles What Replaces Replacement Theology? 82 – Pioneers of Messianic Worship | Dr. Greg Silverman
The emergence of Messianic Judaism into the American cultural milieu in the 1960s and 70s brought with it a distinct genre of sacred music with roots in Ashkenazi klezmer and traditional Jewish liturgy. Since then, Messianic music has come into its own, having been influenced by a wide variety of genres from wherever the Jewish people have been dispersed. Our guest today, Dr. Greg Silverman, has recently released a documentary called Pioneers of Messianic Worship that chronicles the humble beginnings of this now iconic sound and gives us a hint as to what’s in store for its future.👉 Key Discussion Points:► The Emergence of Messianic Worship: As Messianic congregations formed in the 1960s and 1970s, the founders of modern Messianic Judaism desired to create worship centers that looked and felt more like synagogues than churches. To accomplish this objective, early pioneers like Stuart Dauermann began writing new songs with Ashkenazi, Klezmer, and “Fiddler on the Roof” sounds to resonate authentically with the Jewish people they were trying to reach.► The Corporate, God-Centered Nature of Messianic Music: A defining characteristic of Messianic Jewish worship is its emphasis on the corporate (“we”) experience rather than the individualistic (“I”) experience common in contemporary Christian music. This focus on a communal experience as a people group mirrors the language found in traditional Jewish prayer.► Traditional Hebrew Liturgies: Messianic music frequently incorporates ancient Hebrew liturgical prayers and melodies into songs. This reinforces the connection with the historical prayers of the Jewish people. The beauty and spiritual discipline of these liturgies—which are often verses from the Bible put in a specific order—are seen as a way to direct the heart and mind toward God’s truth, helping believers stay focused and internalize God’s oneness, mercy, and faithfulness.► The Global Impact of Paul Wilbur and the Passing of the Baton: Paul Wilbur stands out as one of the first and most successful artists to connect the Jewish roots of the faith with a worldwide Christian audience. Behind the grand success is a humble, genuine, wholehearted worshiper. The next generation of artists, like Joshua Aaron and Misha Goetz, is taking up the baton and ensuring a future for Messianic worship. 👉 Resources► Watch the Documentary: Pioneers of Messianic Worship is available on YouTube. ► Greg Silverman’s Ministry: Find music, videos, recordings, and information on training for worship leaders at the Greg Silverman Ministry Website.► Sheet Music Resource: Worship leaders can find chord charts and sheet music for Messianic songs. ► Follow Greg Silverman on Social Media: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Substack► – Who is Messiah Podcast? –Messiah Podcast is a production of First Fruits of Zion (FFOZ), a Messianic Jewish education organization dedicated to reconciling disciples of Yeshua with God's prophetic promises to Israel. 81 – The Discovery That Transformed Our Understanding of Scripture | Dr. Rebekah Haigh
In 1947, a Bedouin goat herder stumbled on a collection of clay jars filled with ancient scrolls by the Dead Sea in Israel. When these scrolls made it to scholars and antiquity dealers, it became clear that they had been written around the time Jesus walked the earth. Today, the Dead Sea Scrolls are some of the best examples we have of Second Temple Jewish literature. Our guest on this episode is Dr. Rebekah Haigh, and she joins us to discuss how the Dead Sea Scrolls revolutionized New Testament interpretations.👉 Key Discussion Points:► The Discovery: The classic tale is told of a young Bedouin shepherd, in search of a lost goat, stumbled upon the scrolls in a cave near the Dead Sea in 1947. ► The Significance: The scrolls are an incredible witness to the stability of the biblical text and broaden our understanding of the different varieties of ancient Judaism that existed before and during the time of Jesus. Before their discovery, our primary sources on early Judaism were limited to the New Testament and later rabbinic writings. The Dead Sea Scrolls filled this “blank slate,” providing evidence of Jewish life and thought.► The Essenes: Opinions regarding the community responsible for collecting and writing the scrolls vary. The most common theory points to a group affiliated with the Essenes. This group was interested in ritual purity, communal living, preparing for the end of days, and was often with suspicion toward the Second Temple and its priesthood.► Connections to the New Testament: The podcast explores the parallels between the Essenes and the early Jesus movement, noting similarities in their apocalyptic expectations, focus on ritual purity, and ideas about the Messiah. The conversation also touches on how the book of Revelation and the rest of the New Testament should be read as Jewish literature.👉 ResourcesWomen Who Went Before Podcasthttps://womenwhowentbefore.comRebekah Haigh Socialshttps://x.com/rebekahjhaighhttps://x.com/womenbeforeTorah Clubhttps://torahclub.orgEnd of Days: Torah Club Study Trackhttps://endofdays.org✡️ What is Messiah Podcast? ✝️ Messiah Podcast is a production of First Fruits of Zion (FFOZ), a Messianic Jewish education organization dedicated to reconciling disciples of Yeshua with God’s prophetic promises to Israel. https://ffoz.org Messiah Podcast is made possible by the generosity of our First Fruits of Zion Friends. 80 – Jesus Is Jewish, and That Changes Everything | Damian Eisner & Jacob Fronczak
Our tagline here at Messiah Podcast is “Jesus is Jewish, and that changes everything.” But what exactly do we mean by that? What changes specifically? Our guest today, Messianic Jewish Rabbi Damian Eisner, is here for a conversation about what the Jewish Jesus means for Christians and for Jews, and how this seemingly simple historical fact opens up the world of the Bible like never before. 👉 Key Discussion Points:The Messiah Podcast Tagline: The present-tense phrasing, “Jesus is Jewish,” is critical, drawing a parallel to Jesus’ use of the present tense when referring to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to prove the resurrection (Matthew 22). It’s a reminder that his Jewish identity is ongoing. The Torah and the Commandments: Messianic Judaism sees Jesus not as a voice of opposition against Judaism but as an ultimate Jewish rabbi and Torah teacher.Reading the New Testament: Realizing Jesus is Jewish changes how the New Testament is read, adding an essential historical and cultural Jewish context.Impact on the Jewish Community: Seeing Jesus as a Jew and a Torah-loving rabbi changes the Jewish perspective on him from being disqualified as Messiah to being a candidate. 👉 ResourcesBook Recommendation: Yeshua Matters by Jacob FronczakTopics: Messianic Judaism, Jesus’ Jewish identity, Torah, Law of Moses, New Testament Context, Replacement Theology, Corporate Salvation, Rosh HaShanah.– Who is Messiah Podcast? –Messiah Podcast is a production of First Fruits of Zion (FFOZ), a Messianic Jewish education organization dedicated to reconciling disciples of Yeshua with God's prophetic promises to Israel. 79 – Are We Living In the End of Days? | D. Thomas Lancaster
In the final episode of our series on the end of days, we delve into the age-old question: Are we living in the last generation? Join Jacob Fronczak and Daniel Lancaster as they explore historical and contemporary signs, from the ingathering of Israel’s exiles to the global technology revolution, that suggest we might be on the brink of a new era. Discover how eschatology drives discipleship and what it means to live with the expectation of the Messiah’s imminent return. Tune in for a thought-provoking discussion that challenges our understanding of prophecy and the times we live in. 👉 Takeaways► Historical Patterns of Expectation: Throughout history, many generations have believed they were living in the end times, often interpreting contemporary events as signs of the Messiah’s imminent return. This pattern highlights the enduring human tendency to seek meaning in current events through the lens of prophecy. ► Eight Reasons: Daniel Lancaster proposes eight reasons why this is the last generation that will see Messiah’s return. These reasons span the fulfillment of biblical prophecy to events taking place around the globe.► Eschatology and Discipleship: The belief in the imminent return of the Messiah is not just a theological stance but a call to action, driving individuals to live with integrity, study scripture, and pursue wisdom as part of their discipleship journey.🔖 Chapters(0:00) Is This the Last Generation before Jesus’ Return?(2:33) The Millerists and the Great Disappointment(10:31) Jonah and the Nature of Prophecy(12:52) Paul’s Reason for the Delayed Redemption(18:39) Did We Miss It?(29:11) Gnosticism: Contrasting Physical and Spiritual Worlds(32:26) Reason 1: Ingathering of the Exiles(35:22) Reason 2. 78 – Did Jesus Believe in the Rapture? | D. Thomas Lancaster
From 88 Reasons for 1988 to the Thief in the Night films and the Left Behind franchise, the sudden disappearance of the church immediately before a seven-year tribulation has been a popular belief among Evangelicals. But is this idea truly biblical? Will the church be raptured? If so, will it happen pre-trib, mid-trib, or post-trib? Who exactly will be left behind? On this episode of Messiah Podcast, the third in our multi-part series on the End of Days with D. Thomas Lancaster, we delve into the prophets of Israel to discover the true source for the Rapture, the blast of the shofar, and the ingathering of the exiles. Join us as we uncover how it all fits together in a Jewish reading of biblical prophecy.👉 Takeaways► The Rapture Is a Biblical idea: Jewish eschatology very firmly believes in a rapture that will take place at the end of days in conjunction with the resurrection of the dead. However, the identity of who is being raptured and to where is their destination is quite different from the modern Christian versions.► The Most Frequently Repeated Prophecy: It may come as a surprise that the most oft-repeated prophecy of the Hebrew Bible is not the coming of the Messiah but the rapture of the scattered souls of Israel. In Jewish eschatology this is known as the ingathering of the exiles. Paul understands the prophets to include Gentiles from the nations among those who are brought to Jerusalem.► The Rapture Is a Primary Job of the Messiah: In Jewish eschatology, the ingathering of the exiles is one of the most important jobs of the Messiah. 👉 ResourcesTorah Club https://torahclub.orgEnd of Days: Torah Club Study Track https://endofdays.org ✡️ What is Messiah Podcast? ✝️ Messiah Podcast is a production of First Fruits of Zion (FFOZ), a Messianic Jewish education organization dedicated to reconciling disciples of Yeshua with God’s prophetic promises to Israel. https://ffoz.org Messiah Podcast is made possible by the generosity of our First Fruits of Zion Friends. 77 – What Everyone Gets Wrong About Revelation | D. Thomas Lancaster
Revelation, the Apocalypse of John, is the last book in the Bible, and for many, it’s the most difficult. Through the ages, followers of Yeshua have taken the Revelation football and run with it in just about every conceivable direction. This second part of our series on the end times, features D. Thomas Lancaster, author of the forthcoming End of Days Torah Club study track, and together we’ll discuss the various approaches Christian interpreters have used to try to decipher the book of Revelation. We’ll pull the curtain back a little bit to reveal what we can expect this fall as our Torah Club students encounter a Jewish approach to interpreting John’s apocalyptic visions.👉 Takeaways► Critique of Traditional Interpretive Paradigms: There are four main Christian interpretive views of Revelation—Historicist, Idealist, Futurist, and Preterist. Jacob and Daniel discuss the strengths and limitations of each of the interpretive paradigms and present an alternative perspective based on Jewish apocalyptic interpretations of Bible prophecy. ► The "Elasticity" of Biblical Prophecy: Jewish eschatology suggests that biblical prophecy can have "elasticity" or different potential outcomes based on the people's response. This means prophecies can be fulfilled in multiple ways or reappear in different historical contexts.► Revelation's Relevance across Time ("What Was, What Is, What Will Be"): The "End of Days" study track will emphasize reading Revelation through Jewish eyes, understanding "what was" (events already transpired for the original readers), "what is" (current spiritual realities), and "what will be" (future fulfillments). This allows for both historical context and future expectation without forcing the text to be a rigid predictive chart.► Practical Call to Faithfulness: Ultimately, the core message of Revelation, across generations, is a call to steadfastness and clinging to the testimony of Yeshua and God's commandments, despite societal pressures, persecution, and fear of martyrdom. It reassures believers that the "real kingdom is coming," and their actions in the present will determine their place in that future reality.👉 ResourcesTorah Club https://torahclub.orgEnd of Days: Torah Club Study Track https://endofdays.org– Who is Messiah Podcast? –Messiah Podcast is a production of First Fruits of Zion (FFOZ), a Messianic Jewish education organization dedicated to reconciling disciples of Yeshua with God's prophetic promises to Israel. 76 – Mythbusting Revelation | D. Thomas Lancaster
For decades, eagle-eyed prophecy aficionados have scoured the headlines and the Scriptures hoping to find clues as to where we’re at on God’s prophetic timeline and how much longer we’ll have to wait before the glorious return of our Master, Yeshua. But does the Bible really predict Apache helicopters, Patriot missiles, the Chernobyl disaster, and nuclear weapons? In this, the first of a multi-part series on the end times, this podcast episode features a discussion with D. Thomas Lancaster, author of the forthcoming End of Days Torah Club study track. Jacob and Daniel explore some of the apocalyptic imagery in the Bible to find out what’s really going on behind the veil. 👉 Takeaways ► The First Rule for Interpreting Revelation: Understand the text in its historical context. The book of Revelation was written to real people at a real time in history. Our understanding of its future application comes after we first understand what it meant in their time. ► Apocalypse Means Unveiling: Explore how apocalyptic texts reveal the spiritual forces influencing physical world events. Instead of looking for direct correlations with modern occurrences, learn about the spiritual power behind what you observe. ► Develop a Robust Prophetic Framework: A Jewish apocalyptic understanding creates a robust, biblical, and resilient framework for interpreting end-times prophecies, as highlighted by the End of Days Torah Club study track. 75 – Breaking Barriers Through Music and Faith | Israeli Musician Shai Sol
Messianic Jewish musicians utilize their craft to express their faith in Yeshua in distinctly Jewish ways. Shai Sol is one such musician who brings a distinctive Israeli sound to the Messianic Jewish music world. Her musical journey began early, sparked by a childhood introduction to the darbukha. This path eventually led her to compete on the Israeli reality TV series HaKochav HaBah, where she famously and courageously revealed her discipleship to Jesus, making quite a splash. This episode explores the development of her unique sound, her extensive experience with the band MIQEDEM, her collaborations with other Israeli artists, and the passion she has to draw her audience closer to God. 👉 Takeaways► Music as a Vehicle for the Gospel: Shai Sol emphasizes that music is a powerful gift from God that can be used to share the gospel and bring people closer to God, even in secular spaces. ► Normalizing Messianic Judaism in Israel: Normalizing Messianic Jewish faith in Israeli society is a challenging endeavor. By speaking openly and confidently about Messianic beliefs, Yeshua-believers in Israel aim to break down taboos and anxieties surrounding Messianic Judaism, making it more accessible and understood. ► The Power of Vulnerability and Authenticity: Shai Sol was influenced by artists who are open and honest about their spiritual journeys and struggles in their music. She believes that sharing vulnerabilities allows others to relate and potentially find God or answers to their questions through the music. ► God’s Provision and Trust: The meaning behind Shai Sol’s song “Same Story” reflects a deep trust in God’s provision. The song serves as a reminder that just as God cares for nature, He also takes care of personal worries and concerns, even when solutions aren’t immediately visible. ► Vision for Supporting Messianic Artists: Shai Sol has a strong vision for the future of Messianic Jewish music and sees the long term need to develop a Messianic record label that similar artists can call "home."🔖 Chapters (00:00) Meet Shai Sol(3:27) Musical Beginnings (7:51) Becoming a Messianic Jewish Family (12:13) Becoming an Openly Messianic Musician (20:59) HaKachav HaBa Competition (27:18) Collaborations (32:04) Musical Influencers (36:57) Musical Inspiration (47:58) Future Outlook 👉 Resources Support Shai Sol MusicShai Sol on YoutubeShai Sol on SpotifySong: Refa Na – Collaboration with Yair Levi Shai on Facebook Shai on Instagram MIQEDEM Music BandOther Musicians Sakhnini Brothers, Barry Sakharof, Aviv Gefen, Eviatar Banai, Emanuel Roro– Who is Messiah Podcast? –Messiah Podcast is a production of First Fruits of Zion (FFOZ), a Messianic Jewish education organization dedicated to reconciling disciples of Yeshua with God's prophetic promises to Israel. 74 – I Am Israel: A Filmmaker's Journey to Zion | Filmmaker David Kiern
The biblical kings and prophets envisioned the Temple as a house of prayer for all nations. Right now, it’s only a house of prayer for Muslims—Jews and Christians are forbidden from praying where Jesus did. Our guest today, David Kiern, is a filmmaker whose passion is to see disciples of Jesus kindle a love for Israel and a passion for the Temple Mount. His newest film, “I Am Israel: The Mountain of the King,” comes out on May 25, and he’s here to tell us all about it. 👉 Takeaways► Discover the Heart of the World at Jerusalem and the Temple Mount: How did the Temple Mount in Jerusalem become known as the resting place for God’s presence and the place where heaven and earth connect? David Kiern’s film isn’t just a history lesson; it’s an invitation to experience the spiritual energy of this central place and to imagine the fulfillment of the vision for it to become a house of prayer for all nations.► Unravel the Complex Story of Worship on the Temple Mount: Have you ever wondered why, today, worship on the Temple Mount is limited to Muslims only? If we long for the prophet’s prediction of the Temple Mount as a house of prayer for all nations to come true, then we must reconsider our perspective on the Temple Mount and how we value experiencing God in that sacred space.► Experience Israel through the Power of Film: Even if travel isn’t possible right now, film can bring Israel’s beauty and deep history to you! The Mountain of the King offers a fast-paced journey through the past, present, and future, with action on horseback, jeep, and helicopter. 73 – Mapping Messianic Jewish Theology | Dr. Richard Harvey
The American Messianic Jewish congregational movement as we know it today blossomed in the 1960s and ‘70s. These young congregations borrowed theological ideas from Judaism and from Christianity, but comparatively little work has been done to synthesize a truly original, authentic, relevant, and beautiful Messianic Jewish theology. Our guest today, Dr. Richard Harvey, is the only person in the world with a Ph.D. in Messianic Jewish theology, and in this conversation he discusses how far Messianic Jews have come and how far they have yet to go as they attempt to articulate their most deeply cherished beliefs in a rigorous and systematic way.👉 Takeaways► Messianic Jewish theology is unified by two core affirmations: the ongoing election of Israel and the messiahship of Yeshua, allowing for significant diversity beyond these foundations.► Messianic Judaism seeks to heal the historical fracture between Judaism and Christianity: offering a vision of reconciliation that restores the Jewish roots of Christian faith and fosters mutual respect between Israel and the nations. ► The perseverance of early Jewish believers, often called “Hebrew Christians,” laid the essential groundwork for today’s Messianic Judaism despite facing profound isolation and rejection: their efforts kept alive a vision of Jewish identity united with faith in Yeshua, enabling future generations to build a freer and more robust Messianic Jewish movement.► Jewish mysticism holds valuable insights for Messianic Jewish theology, but it must be approached with discernment and respect for its historical and theological context: engaging mystical traditions thoughtfully can enrich understanding of God’s nature and deepen the theological framework surrounding Yeshua.🔖 Chapters(00:00) Introducing the World’s only PH.d in Messianic Jewish Theology(09:43) Mapping Messianic Jewish Theology(14:28) Discovering the Common Ground (20:05) Imagine if Christianity Had Not Separated from Judaism(26:57) Trajectory of Messianic Judaism and Israeli Christianity(35:18) Being Part of Developing Messianic Jewish Thought(41:22) The Historic Challenges for “Hebrew Christians”(48:46) The Importance of Education in Growing in Maturity(51:19) The Value of Jewish Mysticism(57:47) Books & Blogs👉 ResourcesMapping Messianic Jewish Theology by Richard HarveyOn This Day In Messianic Jewish History BlogDr. Richard Harvey’s Accademia Profile– Who is Messiah Podcast? –Messiah Podcast is a production of First Fruits of Zion (FFOZ), a Messianic Jewish education organization dedicated to reconciling disciples of Yeshua with God's prophetic promises to Israel. 72 – Christian Scholars Defend the Torah Observant Jesus | Dr. Paul Sloan & Dr. Logan Williams
For centuries, supersessionist assumptions in higher education led generations of academics to assume that Jesus came to abolish the Mosaic Law. Today, a new generation of professors and researchers is producing rigorous, meticulously cited work arguing for a different perspective—that Jesus kept the Torah, valued the Torah, and instructed his disciples to keep the Torah and keep practicing Judaism. We’re joined today by Dr. Logan Williams and Dr. Paul Sloan, who have recently inaugurated a podcast of their own, called Jesus and Jewish Law, where they demonstrate how their research has led them to this pro-Torah view of Jesus.— Takeaways —► Jesus' relationship to the Torah is a complex issue with varied interpretations. The traditional view that Jesus came to abolish the law is being challenged by a new generation of scholars who argue that Jesus was Torah-observant. ► Studying ancient Jewish sources like the Mishnah and Tosefta is important to properly understand the legal and cultural debates in Jesus' time. 71 – Life at the End of the World: The Imminent Eschatology of Paul | Dr. Matthew Novenson
Paul's relationship with Jewish law is notoriously difficult to grasp. In this episode, Dr. Matthew Novenson joins the podcast and proposes a new interpretive framework to make sense of the prolific apostle—Paul saw himself as a Jew, not at the end of Judaism, but at the end of history. Dr. Novenson is a Professor of New Testament at Princeton Theological Seminary and the author of “Paul and Judaism at the End of History.” In this conversation we will examine Paul's views on justification, legalism, and chauvinism, as well as his criticism of Jewish conversion for Gentiles. These perspectives help explain some of the tensions and seeming contradictions in his letters as he addressed communities he believed were on the cusp of a radical transformation to a new era of human history.— Takeaways —► Paul's view of himself and Judaism: Paul considered himself a Jew and did not see his teachings as a departure from Judaism but rather as a part of its historical progression.► Paul's imminent eschatology and its implications: Paul's belief in the imminent end of the age and the coming of the new creation heavily influenced his views on the law, justification, and conversion. ► The interpretation of "justification": The concept of justification in Paul's letters is interpreted as a "transfer term" referring to the transfer into the new creation rather than merely a forensic declaration of righteousness.► Paul's opponents: Contrary to the common assumption that Paul's opponents were Jewish, Dr. Novenson suggests that they were actually Gentile converts advocating for proselyte circumcision.► Paul's "legalism": Dr. Novenson challenges the traditional view of Paul as being anti-legalistic by pointing out instances in his letters where he sets strict standards and prohibitions, indicating a form of "legalism."— Chapters —(00:00) Introduction to Dr. Matthew Novenson(06:30) Galatians 1:3 – Did Paul abandon Judaism? Followers of Yeshua are called to take up their cross—to become martyrs. In the process, he found that the gospel message was inextricably tied to the exile and redemption of Israel. In this episode, filmmaker Reed Smith discusses the themes of his new film, Sojourners and Exiles, which explores the cost of discipleship for modern-day disciples of Yeshua.– Takeaways –The Call to Martyrdom and Discipleship – Followers of Yeshua are called to take up their cross, a theme that inspired filmmaker Reed Smith to explore modern discipleship and persecution. The Gospel’s Connection to Israel – Smith discovered that the message of the gospel is deeply tied to the exile and redemption of Israel, emphasizing that God's plan is Israel-centric."Sojourners and Exiles" Film – The documentary explores the cost of discipleship, focusing on real-life martyrs and their sacrifices for faith.Western Christianity Lacks a Theology of Martyrdom – The podcast discusses how many Western Christians have not seriously considered martyrdom, while believers in other parts of the world face real persecution. The Film's Unexpected Shift – While initially about martyrdom, the film evolves into a broader message about the Gospel of the Kingdom, the role of Israel, and the Jewish Messiah’s return.A Palestinian Jordanian’s Journey – The film features a Palestinian Jordanian Christian who, despite cultural and religious opposition, embraces an Israel-centric gospel, demonstrating deep personal sacrifice.Persecution for Supporting Israel – The discussion highlights how supporting Israel is becoming increasingly controversial, even within Christian circles, leading to potential persecution in the West.Torah Club’s Role in Spiritual Growth – Smith shares how joining a Torah Club has deepened his understanding of the Jewish context of Scripture, reinforcing the need to see Jesus within His Jewish identity.– Chapters –(00:00) Episode Introduction(02:00) Introducing Filmmaker Reed Smith(03:39) The Inspiration Behind 'Sojourners and Exiles'(21:51) Martyrdom: Counting the Cost of Discipleship(33:03) A Palestinian Jordanian Believer Embraces an Israel-Centric Gospel(42:07) A Powerful Anecdote(43:53) The Divine Reversal of the Kingdom(45:47) Persecution From Without and Within(52:17) A Fresh Interpretation of Matthew 25(01:03:17) Another Helpful Resource: Torah Club (01:09:50) Final Thoughts and Where to Watch the Film– Resources –Sojourners and Exiles TrailerSojourners and Exiles FilmI See Nations TrailerI See Nations Film– Who is Messiah Podcast? –Messiah Podcast is a production of First Fruits of Zion (FFOZ), a Messianic Jewish education organization dedicated to reconciling disciples of Yeshua with God's prophetic promises to Israel. 68 – The Telepathy Tapes and Jewish Spirituality
The Telepathy Tapes has become one of the most popular podcasts in the world. Severely autistic non-verbal children and adults have apparently always been able to read minds, and they’re receiving revelations from God that validate a Messianic Jewish perspective. Our guests today, First Fruits of Zion’s Director of Education, D. Thomas Lancaster, and Jeremiah Michael from the Bram Center for Messianic Jewish Learning, are here to untangle the spiritual implications of this phenomenon—is it real? And if so, what is our proper response to it?– Takeaways –Experts have historically dismissed telepathy, but new evidence has emerged that non-verbal autistic individuals have unique connections to a spiritual realm where such abilities may in fact exist. The nature of reality is complex, with spiritual dimensions influencing our perceptions. This exploration into the experience of non-verbal autistic children is a glimpse behind the veil of the material world into the world of souls. This vision validates the standard belief in Judaism of the pre-existence of the soul. This world of souls is where consciousness operates on a spiritual level beyond material understanding. What these children have told us aligns with biblical stories and teachings within Judaism and the message they bring to the world emphasizes love and repentance.Non-verbal autistic children have a profound spiritual mission. The human ego often gets in the way of accessing the spiritual world. Severely autistic children seem to have acquired their gifts by virtue of their inherent lack of ego. This causes us to question, can anyone gain high spiritual giftings by putting themselves through a rigorous exercise to nullify the ego?Regardless of what we are told regarding the spiritual world, the Scriptures must remain our guardrail to determine ultimate truth so that a person does not fall into the occult.Necromancy is forbidden, but messages from the deceased can occur.Jewish tradition around the soul’s journey to God during sleep has been validated. How can we best understand the fact that non-speaking autistic Jewish kids have not had experiences of meeting Jesus in their spiritual encounters? There is a spiritual interconnectedness between the Jewish people.Glimpsing into the world of thought elicits a profound sense of the fear of man but more importantly it ought to also lead us to a fear of God.The primary takeaway is that God and the spiritual realm are actually real. The Messiah is coming and calling humanity to repentance. Since we are more than physical bodies, we should feel inspired to BE more and to LIVE for more than physical existence but to aim for things higher and more noble.– Who is Messiah Podcast? –Messiah Podcast is a production of First Fruits of Zion (FFOZ), a Messianic Jewish education organization dedicated to reconciling disciples of Yeshua with God's prophetic promises to Israel. 61 – A Call for Radical Discipleship | Bill Scofield
Yeshua called his followers to radical discipleship—a life lived entirely for the coming kingdom. His teachings equip us for the suffering and hardship we are destined to experience as we await that kingdom. For those from relatively affluent societies, this first-century Jewish model might seem archaic, but Yeshua’s apocalyptic worldview is still a foundational component of our faith. Bill Scofield joins us to talk about his church in Redding, California, which he planted with discipleship as its sole focus. Joseph Good is a pioneer in the modern Messianic movement and one of the world’s leading experts on the Holy Temple. 56 – Hebrew Roots Is Not Messianic Judaism | Daniel Thomas Lancaster & Jeremiah Michael
Messianic Judaism is a prophetic movement of the Holy Spirit. Jews and Gentiles are recovering a Jewish reading of the New Testament and a body of Messiah that has room for both Jews and Gentiles to live out their respective roles and callings. The Hebrew Roots movement is something different. On this episode of Messiah Podcast, Daniel Thomas Lancaster (Education Director for First Fruits of Zion) and Jeremiah Michael (Education Director of the Bram Center for Messianic Jewish Learning in Jerusalem) join us to help us sort through the differences between these two streams of thought and how to steer clear of the many dangers that litter this ancient path.– Chapters –(00:00) Introductions(02:23) What is Messianic Judaism and what are some traits of Hebrew Roots?(09:52) Messianic Judaism does not pronounce the Sacred Name of God aloud.(16:22) Jesus’ Hebrew name is not “Yahshua.”(19:35) How should the biblical calendar be calculated?(25:58) Are Davidic dancing, circle dances, and banners part of Messianic Judaism?(30:24) One Law: Can Gentiles wear tzitzit in Messianic Judaism?(35:00) Gentiles and Sabbath observance.(39:40) Hebrew Roots regards many elements of Christianity to be idolatry rooted in paganism.(46:16) Who are the ten lost tribes? 55 – Zionism And The Black Church | Dumisani Washington
Civil rights leaders in the black community have long been divided on their stance toward the existence of Israel. Some see the black struggle for civil rights as analogous to the Palestinian cause, while others, including Dr. King, were staunch allies of Israel, seeing the plight and eventual victory of the Jewish people as a model for the black community. Our guest today is the founder and CEO of the Institute for Black Solidarity with Israel, Pastor Dumisani Washington. In his book, Zionism and the Black Church, he explains why Israel is a defining issue for Christians of color.– Chapters –(00:00) Introduction to Dumisani Washington.(02:20) Overview of the Institute for Black Solidarity with Israel.(04:44) How Dumisani’s connection to Israel began as a young child.(08:24) Black American spirituals flourish in the stories of Israel’s history.(13:54) Zionism vs. Black Hebrew Israelites.(20:24) Working for Christians United for Israel.(24:27) Reasons for authoring Zionism and the Black Church.(27:49) Misuse of the term “apartheid” in reference to Israel.(32:49) What is Zionism as it relates to the Black church?(39:35) Forms of Zionism and the impact on civil rights.(47:08) How the Black relationship with the Jewish People was hijacked.(53:10) The Durban conference that launched the modern BDS movement.(59:13) What can be done by the Black church to combat anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism?– Resources –Zionism and the Black ChurchInstitute for Black Solidarity With IsraelChristians United for IsraelTent of David, By Boaz Michael"Soon and Very Soon" - Andrae Crouch"Go Down, Moses" - Fats Waller"Down By the Riverside" - Mahalia Jackson– Who is Messiah Podcast? –Messiah Podcast is a production of First Fruits of Zion (FFOZ), a Messianic Jewish education organization dedicated to reconciling disciples of Yeshua with God's prophetic promises to Israel. 51 – Why Christians Misunderstand Hebrews | Daniel Thomas Lancaster
The Epistle to the Hebrews constitutes one of the most difficult sections of the Bible for those of us who have embraced a Messianic Jewish perspective. Thankfully, D. Thomas Lancaster, First Fruits of Zion’s Director of Education, has spent years penning a commentary that will enrich and enlighten you. He joins Messiah Podcast to provide a sneak peek into the premise that unlocked the historical understanding of this important book of the Apostolic Scriptures.– Takeaways –The Epistle to the Hebrews is a difficult book to interpret from a Messianic Jewish perspective. Daniel Thomas Lancaster's new commentary brings the latest in New Testament scholarship and the oldest of Jewish hermeneutical principles to bear on the biblical text to present a relevant and insightful understanding of the epistle. The authorship of Hebrews is uncertain. While it was certainly not the Apostle Paul, it may have been a second-generation disciple of the apostles like Clement of Rome.Hebrews emphasizes Yeshua's importance as the gateway to the Messianic Era and warns against turning away from him.The hermeneutical method used in Hebrews, known as kol vechomer, establishes the weight of the first matter to make a case for the second matter.Understanding the Jewish context and the distinction between Jews and Gentiles is crucial in interpreting Hebrews.– Episode Resources –The Holy Epistle to the HebrewsThe Holy Epistle to the GalatiansThe Holy Epistle to the Ephesians– Who is Messiah Podcast? –Messiah Podcast is a production of First Fruits of Zion (FFOZ), a Messianic Jewish education organization dedicated to reconciling disciples of Yeshua with God's prophetic promises to Israel. 49 – The Didache: Torah for Gentiles | Dr. Daniel Nessim
Early Jewish believers in Yeshua created a catechism for new disciples from among the nations. Lost for hundreds of years, this document, the Didache, reveals the expectations and standards the early Yeshua-believing community put in place for Gentile disciples of Yeshua. Our guest today, Dr. Daniel Nessim, has spent his academic career demonstrating that the first disciples of Yeshua considered the Torah to be the moral compass of all those who joined the community of disciples, whether Jewish or Gentile. – Takeaways –The Didache is a discipleship manual created by early Jewish believers in Yeshua for personal Gentile discipleship and how to conduct themselves within the community. The Didache was written around 80 CE during a tumultuous time in history and reflects the beliefs and values of the early Jewish believers, who considered the Torah to be the moral compass for all disciples. The arch of the Didache progresses from directing individuals on the proper moral path to addressing issues of community life that were particularly applicable at the time the Didache was written. – Chapters –(00:00) Welcome Dr. Daniel Nessim to Messiah Podcast!(02:41) The Didache: What it is and where it came from.(05:44) The purpose and significance of the Didache.(08:16) Relationship of the Didache to other early Christian writings.(09:49) The historical occasion for writing down the Didache.(12:37) The clues that betray the Jewishness of the Didache.(14:20) Rediscovery of the Didache.(15:52) Impact of the Dead Sea Scrolls on Didache research.(21:44) Thesis of the book “Torah for Gentiles” by Dr. Daniel Nessim.(28:16) Parallels with Greek moral instruction.(31:12) Modern interpretations of the Didache. 48 – Messianic Judaism In The Vatican | Rabbi Dr. Mark Kinzer
Rabbi Dr. Mark Kinzer discusses the Catholic Church's embrace of distinction theology and its impact on Jewish-Christian dialogue and the Messianic Jewish movement. He highlights the significance of the Second Vatican Council and the documents Lumen Gentium and Nostra Aetate in redefining the church's understanding of itself and its relationship with the Jewish people. The Catholic Church's rejection of deicide and recognition of the ongoing special relationship with the Jewish people have had a profound impact on Christian theology and paved the way for further dialogue and understanding. This conversation explores the theological developments and dialogue between Messianic Judaism and the Roman Catholic Church. It delves into the concept of Jesus as the Living Torah and the connection between Yeshua and the Jewish people. The role of Cardinal Lustiger in emphasizing Jewish identity within the Catholic Church is highlighted. The conversation also touches on the progress being made in the Catholic Church regarding the recognition of the enduring significance of the land of Israel. Overall, this dialogue is seen to be of historic significance and a promising trajectory for Catholic theology.– Takeaways –The Second Vatican Council, prompted by the Holocaust, marked a significant reassessment of the Catholic Church's understanding of itself and its relationship with the Jewish people. The documents Lumen Gentium and Nostra Aetate work together to lay out how the church understands and identifies itself and how it understands and identifies itself in relationship to other religions of the world. The Catholic document The Gifts and Calling of God Are Irrevocable went even further to express the enduring covenant between God and the Jewish people. As a Jewish Cardinal, Jean-Marie Lustiger made significant contributions to the dialogue between Judaism and Christianity. Acting as a counselor to Pope John Paul II on the Jewish people, he emphasized Jesus' solidarity with his people and the continued Jewish identity of Jews within the church. He saw the suffering of the Jewish people as a part of the Messiah's suffering, highlighting the deep identification of the Messiah with His people. The Catholic Church is moving toward visible changes to reflect the realization of the enduring significance of Jewish identity within the church and the Jewish people in the land of Israel.– Resources –Searching Her Own Mysteries by Rabbi, Dr. Mark KinzerNostra AetateLumen GentiumThe Gifts and Calling of God Are IrrevocableFilm: The Jewish Catholic– Who is Messiah Podcast? –Messiah Podcast is a production of First Fruits of Zion (FFOZ), a Messianic Jewish education organization dedicated to reconciling disciples of Yeshua with God's prophetic promises to Israel. 47 – FFOZ, Messianic Jews, and the Gentile Problem
First Fruits of Zion teaches that the whole Bible, including the Law of Moses, that is, the Torah given to the Jewish people, has relevance and practical application for Gentile Christians. Some Messianic Jews disagree; they argue that the Torah is for Jews only. Today’s guests, FFOZ Senior Educator Aaron Eby and Director of Torah Club Damian Eisner are here to challenge the idea that the Torah has nothing to say to Gentiles.– Takeaways –Terms are confusing if they are not well-defined. Many people stumble on the Jewish Jesus online but many times the source of the information they stumble on is what we would call Hebrew Roots. First Fruits of Zion is part of Messianic Judaism, and there are some important distinctions. The community of faith is composed of both Jews and Gentiles. But despite us being “one in Messiah,” First Fruits of Zion believes that it is important to maintain our unique identities. Why do we think so, and how do we advise Jews and Gentiles to avoid blurring the lines of distinction?Acts 15 documents an important time in the life of the apostles when they decided on the course of faith for Gentiles who were coming to faith in the Jewish Messiah. What does this passage teach about Jewish and Gentile obligations to the Law?The Sabbath and the Jewish festivals are full of richness in meaning and blessing. What does the remembrance and observance of the Sabbath and the other biblical holidays look like for Jewish people, and what would they look like for a Gentile disciple? – Chapters –(00:00) Welcome to Messiah Podcast.(02:05) First Fruits of Zion is a Messianic Jewish organization, not Hebrew Roots.(13:08) What is distinction theology?(20:00) The apostles’ expectation of Gentile disciples. (25:22) Interpreting Acts 15 and Acts 21 and the four prohibitions for Gentile disciples.(29:38) The synagogue has always been a place for Gentiles to learn about the God of Israel.(40:43) What does the distinction between Jewish and Gentile observance of the Sabbath look like?(55:51) How can Gentiles interface with and observe Jewish holidays like Passover and Tabernacles?(01:04:51) Is 1 Corinthians 5:8 an invitation to Gentiles to celebrate Passover?(01:11:34) A biblical model for do’s and don’ts for Gentiles.(01:15:23) Gentiles are adopted to be part of the family of God.(01:20:32) First Fruits of Zion does not subscribe to what is commonly known as “one law theology.”– Resources –Restoration: Returning the Torah of Moses to the Disciples of JesusFrom Sabbath to Sabbath: Returning the Holy Sabbath to the Disciples of JesusThe Holy Days: Returning the Biblical Festivals to the Disciples of Jesus.– Who is Messiah Podcast? –Messiah Podcast is a production of First Fruits of Zion (FFOZ), a Messianic Jewish education organization dedicated to reconciling disciples of Yeshua with God's prophetic promises to Israel.
