David And The Giants: Pioneering The Christian Rock Genre For 45 Years
Do you think your voice has a shelf life? Today's guests will prove you wrong. David and the Giants is a Christian band that has been around since the 1970s. The band still performs today and recently rocked the house at an event in the DFW area and I was able to sit down and have a candid conversation about their lives and music. David Huff, his brothers Rayburn and Clayborn, along with drummer Keith Thibodeaux (Little Ricky from the I Love Lucy Show) founded the band David and the Giants in the 1960s. It all started when David suggested to his brothers that they learn to play instruments. Soon after, they joined the rock and roll band. David and the Giants were ahead of their time, pioneering the Christian rock genre before anyone else. The band was was a hit and doors opened for them to rock the house at any church that would allow their progressive rock style. Today they will share their story of being born again through their music. They truly are an inspiration and I can't wait for you to meet them. Unlearn The Voice: Speech Level Singing For Maximum Impact
Do you want to know the secret to a perfect singing voice. Well, today I'm spilling the beans so buckle up. This is the one skill that every singer should apply to their voice. This skill is easy to do, but difficult from a mindset perspective. In order to embrace this super power within you, you must unlearn what they think they know and remove the barriers that may be preventing you from progressing. Today I'm going to use as an example one of the best speech level singers of our generation, despite not actually being a singer. He was able to reach the heart of every listener because he was not trying to impress them with his vocal skills, and his lack of formal vocal training allowed him to have a unique sound. As you listen I encourage you to start fresh and accept you own voice, no matter your experience level. Using Autotune: An Insight Into Its Benefits And Limitations
Auto-tune has become a popular tool for producers and singers to use to enhance their voice. It can be used to correct pitch, but if overused, it can negatively affect the artistic quality of the voice. It is important to understand how to use the tool appropriately as it is not going away anytime soon. Auto-tune is beneficial for those who need a small nudge in their pitch, but can be detrimental for those with more drastic pitch discrepancies. It is a useful tool for songwriters to reference the melody they are going for and for developing singers to get a sense of what their voice should sound like if they hit the right pitches. Turning Back The Clock: How To Regain Your Voice And Achieve Lifelong Vocal Success
Have you noticed a decline in your voice as you have gotten older? Today I am talking about the fear many people experience when they start to notice a their voice changing after 40. The good news is, there are tools that can turn back the clock on the voice and keep it youthful and healthy. In this episode, I encourage listeners that proper care of the voice will allow it to last for a lifetime. People's voices can decline as they age, but there are measures that can be taken to ensure one's voice will last a lifetime. To illustrate this concept, the Clay compares the voice to a car. Some people pay a lot of money for performance vehicles. These vehicles are not built to last as long as an everyday, lower-priced car. This is also true for performance athletes; performance oriented sports like football or boxing have a limited shelf life, while sports like golf can be played effectively even as you age. There can also be extreme physical demands on singing in order to have an impressive voice, and singers like Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey were very hard on their own voices. The answer to having a powerful voice is found in the middle part of the voice which is often overlooked, especially by singers. Changing Your Mindset About Your Voice
Most people don't like their voice, and I think that's the biggest problem most singers and public speakers have. I want to cure people of that by helping to change their mindset and explaining why they should like their voice. The voice is a an amazing instrument. In it’s basic sense, the vocal folds come together and vibrate to make sound. We all have them and under a scope they're pretty much indistinguishable each another. All human voices have the same basic function, so why do we come to the conclusion that some voices are good and others are bad? I spend most of my time dealing with unhealthy mindsets as it relates to the voice. You can change your voice and more importantly, you can return it to the proper way it was intended to be used. I never encourage people to put on a facade, but rather to find their true voice. Believe it or not, your true voice is your best voice.

We can learn a lot from the way children use their voice. Believe it or not, they use their voice correctly. That’s right they use their voice the right way. In fact, children don't start manifesting voice problems until they are around four to six because this is when children start actively trying to change their voice. This is what today's topic is all about.

3 Things You Can Do to Heal Your Voice
Welcome to the My Voice Mentor Podcast! I'm going to talk to you about something very important today, and I'm going to give you a free five-day vocal jump start program if you click on the link in the show notes below. https://myvoicementor.com/bootcamp/ Most people will have to deal with voice health issues at some point in their life, and if we don't take the right approach to getting our voice back in shape, it can actually lead to more serious conditions down the road. For a lot of people, COVID changed their voice seemingly permanently. If you had COVID, laryngitis, a cold, or any other illness that affects your voice, there are three great ways to jump start your voice and get it on the road to recovery. If you've had a cold or any upper respiratory illness in the last 12 months, have bad vocal habits, or a combination of both, you may be at risk of a prolonged, potentially serious vocal issue. You may be dealing with ligament damage.

How to Overcome Perfectionism
Show Notes Today we're going be talking about perfectionism. And I'm giving away a free five day vocal bootcamp. It's going to give your voice everything it needs to start moving your voice in the right direction. Just click the link below to get started https://myvoicementor.com/bootcamp/ We all know the story of the Tortoise and the Hare. The hare was the faster runner and the tortoise was slower. But the turtle kept going, and in the end, the tortoise won the race. I'm gonna be honest, when I first heard that story, I thought it was a bunch of malarkey. But I've come to realize that slow, steady steps will always outpace talent, and that most people who don't feel like they're talented don't show up to the party. On the other hand, a perfectionist limits their potential because they will only participate in work that they can do perfectly. And let’s face it, most people don't become perfect at any one thing. Most of us develop many skills but none perfectly. A perfectionist always has a ceiling in their work because they won't execute things that they're not very good at. On the other hand, a progress minded person always tries to make progress, regardless of how good or bad they are at whatever they are trying to achieve. The bottom line is, If you can say you're better this week than last, you will outpace the perfectionist every single time, because they rely on their talent and abilities, while you rely on your relentless continuous pursuit moving forward. As I was developing My Voice Mentor, I was pairing my YouTube channel up with my competition and the numbers were just so depressing that I was tempted to think to myself, Oh, gosh, what am I doing? I wouldn't let myself go there, but instead I said to myself, who has the most potential for progress, me or them? I think I can go from 600 views to 1200 views. I decided to start making progress. It won't happen overnight, but if I keep stretching myself, I'll be in the same space as the person I want to be like. As a singer and mentor, my job is to provide a pathway for you to follow, because I've been through some of the paths that you're walking through now. I want to tell you a great story that has inspired me greatly over the years. A student of mine had a learning disability and struggled even learning how to talk. She came to me to learn piano and didn't expect to succeed, but she kept coming up to bat and set herself up to succeed. She was told she would never learn to speak, but now she's 26 and not only talks just fine, she also drives a car, and has never been in an accident. She's also learned how to play the piano as well as anybody. She's overcoming the odds and people like that light the world with their overcoming spirit. Think about this, my piano student with a disability is one of my best students. She practices hours every day and is working her way through some very difficult material, and she has defied the odds. You were born to also defy the odds. I set up the My Voice Mentor voice program for you because I'm rooting for the underdog. I believe in you and I very much want to see you win with your voice.
