It’s our 10th Oddiversary!
SUCH DECADE Hello everyone! Today, October 24, 2014, is the 10th anniversary of the very first Oddwalk performance! As we said on our 5th anniversary, “Whenever Orin and Shannon are asked about Oddwalk’s origins, how we met, etc., we find ourselves using language as if we’re talking about a wedding or a marriage. While that analogy is certainly more different than it is like, Oddwalk is certainly about relationship and relationships, and it is a day to celebrate just that!” To celebrate this milestone, we’ve put together a brief pOddcast from that very first Oddwalk show for the diocese of New Ulm, Minnesota. You can listen to it here, on our pOddcast page, via iTunes, etc. You’ll here early versions of your favorite Oddwalk songs, snippets of stories, watching the 2014 world series, and a whole lot more! Maybe you’ll discover, as we did: the more things change the more things stay the same! Play now: 10th Oddiversary Podcast! Additionally, on our Facebook page for the last 10 days, we’ve been posting highlights of the last decade – check those out, and “like” us over there! Thanks for the opportunities, everyone, to travel as much as we have and to offer our talents and services for the building of the Kingdom. Looking forward to another great 10 years, maybe more!

Super Sam – His Light
Hello everyone, and thanks for visiting Oddwalk’s “Super Sam” page. As part of his full-time parish position, Oddwalk founding member, Shannon Cerneka, serves St. Peter School in Fulton, MO as a music teacher. One of Shannon’s kindergarten students, a little boy named Sam is currently battling a very rare and very aggressive childhood cancer called Rhabdomyoscarcoma. Sam is currently in stage 4, but battling hard. If you would like to read more about the journey that Sam and his family have been on, please visit their Caring Bridge site here: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/samsanthuff When people you know are struggling, how do you offer comfort and hope? What do you say? How do you offer hope, when life offers no certainties? As Shannon was thinking about Sam and his family, he was grappling with these very questions. He ended up turning to scripture, to John 1:1-5 to be exact, for answers. Super Sam! “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” – John 1:1-5 Through reading and meditating on that passage, Shannon found the ‘certainty’ he was looking for, namely that: 1. God is, was, and always will be. 2. Our God is a God of life. 3. No darkness will ever overcome God’s light. Does this mean that bad things won’t happen? No. What it does mean, though, is that our God is with us through it all. Through this process, Shannon felt led to put this passage to music, ultimately writing “His Light” as a way to offer prayer, support, hope, and encouragement to Sam and his family, but also to anyone who needs to be inspired and lifted up during difficult times. Press play to listen to “His Light.” His Light – by Shannon Cerneka, arranged by Shannon Cerneka and Orin Johnson His light, His light Shines through the darkness, Shines through the darkness, His light. From the beginning of time our God has been, And to the end of time our god will remain. God reigns! God Reigns! Our god is shining his light. No evil, no pain, No sin, no foe, No struggle, no death, No storm, no cold, No shadow, no darkness can ever shut out His light. His light, His light Shines through the darkness, Shines through the darkness, His light. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing is. What came to be through him was life. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing is What came to be through him was life. His light, His light Shines through the darkness, Shines through the darkness, His light, His light Shines through the darkness, Shines through the darkness, His light. No evil, no pain, No sin, no foe, No struggle, no death, No storm, no cold, No shadow, no darkness can ever shut out His light. No shadow, no darkness can ever shut out His light. © 2014, Shannon Cerneka, © 2020 GIA Publications Thanks to Oddwalk band members Dan Lang (bass) and Rick Turcotte (drums, Flatlander Sound Studios) for their assistance with this project and for their support! Or, use the direct link to download to your computer or other device (if it supports that). Love (2/10/10) – A new song, free from Oddwalk Ministries! Love256.mp3 This song is dedicated to the memory of Shannon’s cousin, Phillip Nigma, who tragically ended his own life on October 20, 2011. Phillip was only 19 years old. He was a great and funny young man, and his untimely death leaves a hole in the hearts of those who knew him, especially his friends and family. If you would like to know more about suicide, what causes someone to want to take their own life, and what you can do to try and prevent it, please follow this link: http://yellowribbon.org Thank you, and please pray for those who might be considering suicide as well as those who have lost loved ones to suicide. Lyrics: When I was young it was easy There was love to spare In my friends and my family It was everywhere Many sets of shoulders For me to stand upon How can I ever thank them For saying yes to the call? I think it’s all about Love, love, love, love love It’s all about love, love, love love, love. When I go out on my own And started choosing my way Life was all about me then And the stumbles were great I’d forgotten the lessons All that strong advice That love is less about feelings Than sacrifice. Calling all you believers All disciples of Christ Stand up and be counted As the bearers of light Love cannot be measured Nor be contained Do not be afraid to Proudly proclaim Give all you have. Share everything. Take up your cross and follow me. old nothing back. This world needs you to lead with love in all you do. Still at NCYC? Oddwalk is located at booth #122 in Victory Park.
